I'd probably stick with their more traditional espresso based coffees - I recently tried their black sesame latte, and the foam on top was filled with black sesame bits that felt gritty/sandy and made it hard to drink. Great place to have a coffee hangout. Relatively quiet place and area. Parking is a bit tough to find but the place is really nice. The staff is very friendly and the food is wonderful. The good are always fresh and seems like they probably bake them fresh every day. They are also one of the best places for a "too good to go" order in the area. They give plenty of food for a small fees and the staff has already prepared pretty packages for pickup. Definitely a must visit cafe in JC! I only went there for the too good to go order so I might have thought they were somewhat less expensive. I didn't try any of the drinks there though. read more

Ive been hearing that this Lackawanna Coffee in specifics has been losing it's edge from a yelp review so I was very worried when I had arrived there just before opening, around 6:58am but to my surprise the barista working the counter let me into the store early and was extremely accommodating to me! I ordered a Hot Cocoa and they immediately started working on it and even made a really cute latte art, I was totally surprised at how they made latte art when there isn't any espresso in the drink, they made sure to double check what milk I wanted and explained the menu to me when I wasn't sure with what to get. With or without the indoor seating, the employees here all give off a great vibe. Everyone is completely themselves and truly make the effort to take any of your needs into account. There's a wide range of milk options to choose from: whole, skim, almond, oat, and macadamia. (I'm an oat milk fan, but the macadamia milk is super interesting and almost is a slight sweetener on its own). NOTE: THEY DON'T CHARGE YOU EXTRA FOR ALT-MILK! If you make it early enough in the day, their cheddar chive biscuit is my weekday fave, and their everything croissant is what I look forward to on the weekends. Lackawanna Coffee is definitely one of the best and has me coming back very often. I love the aesthetic of the entire place. It's super cute and in the warmer months, you can even sit outside. I've never had trouble finding a seat despite the small size of the cafe. I always get a latte of some sort and it's great every time. They have specialty drinks and a great menu overall. They also offer a variety of milks, like oat, macadamia, cashew, and others. They also offer toasts, but I've never tried it before. I love this spot. It's super cute and chic, and to top it off, the owners are amazing. It's trendy and I love their choice in decor as well as their cute to-go coffee cups. Although they don't have parking, I usually get lucky and find a spot right outside. This particular location isn't located in an area as busy as their Grove St. spot. They have tasty items along with delicious lattes. One of the faves here is their ginger tumeric latte with oat milk along with their avocado toast. Fresh, delicious, and clean. Their chocolate is also REALLY good! They have some funky flavors and it literally just melts in your mouth. They also have an outside seating area where you can hang out and enjoy a beautiful day. I'm afraid I'm now a victim of "procaffeination." The process of delaying work until having caffeine. I love the atmosphere Lackawanna has been able to create in Downtown Jersey City. They have a wide offering of bakery treats, toasts, coffee, and tea; my go-to being the Pineapple Toast (or tartine). It sounded weird at first, but you have to try it. The prices aren't outrageous like other "modern spaces" charging $13 for an avocado toast, so I'll always have this place in mind when looking for a place to study. You have to option of sitting inside or outside, and outside seating is rarely crossed by pedestrians due to it's location. Not because nobody passes by, but you have to climb stairs onto there own little "porch." I wish cafes like Lackawanna were open past 6 or 7, but until then I find myself here often. read more

We've had similar coffee at Roost and Prato in Hoboken. It's a little on the bitter side. They don't have sleeves. I bought local chocolate bars they told me were $10/ea when the sign posted said $8/ea. They refunded me when my boyfriend asked about it. Their mistake. So I got some money back. The chocolate is a company called MAST in Brooklyn. I'm all for supporting local businesses. So I bought three lol. Anyway, the coffee is not that great. Lackawanna is a great coffee spot. In fact, one of the best in Jersey City. However, in light of the recent changes in CDC guidelines that no longer require the usage of a mask for vaccinated adults, Lackawanna has remained steadfast in its requirement to wear a mask when entering its stores. Many vaccinated adults no longer carry masks. There have been several times where I have walked by Lackawanna while taking out my dog and could have spent anywhere from $15-$20, but I am not allowed in, so I took my business over to 9 Bar. read more

I was greeted even before I even entered the door by a young gentleman who asked me how my day was, followed by a good morning, instantly setting a good mood for the rest of my day. It was my first time and I was recommended an almond croissant and a honey latte. It was the best light breakfast I've ever had in a long time! I love it here and you can tel the workers take their time with their craft when it comes to drink, perfecting it and being considerate with clarifications as well as any milk substitutes I may have. I love coffee, I love strong coffee and this hit the spot. However, this strong coffee was $3 for a small regular coffee. Twas a bit pricey. But, I do have to admit well worth the caffeine jolt. I sat outside as it was one of those warm and sunny December days and to my pleasure there were a few puppies tied up outside waiting for their moms and dads to get their coffee fix and enjoy the newspaper. Over 20 dollars for two iced green teas and a grilled cheese? Yes. That's happening in Jersey City right now. Right at this very moment. I guess that's what comes along with the territory of living in an NYC outer borough that's on the up and up. Luckily, we are nowhere near Williamsburg at the moment. In all fairness, my sandwich at Warehouse was more then just your average grilled cheese. It was stuffed with thick slices of melty gruyere, ham and a strawberry jam spread to offset the saltiness with a little bit of sweet. Although it was delish it took about 30 minutes and I was getting really haaangry. There was only one guy working and the shop was bustling on a Saturday at noon, so I knew it would take some time. Basically, this is just one of those trendy little coffee shops with funky decorations everywhere. And, if you couldn't have already guessed...it's located in an old warehouse. Everyone here had like 7 tattoos which means that I'll need 7 more tattoos to fit in next time I return. Because this is more of a leisure hang out spot and less of a grab and go setting, I'll come back next time to plug into some wifi and get some work done over lunch. There's not really a kitchen they have a small counter and seemed to prepare the food right there using things from the fridge and cooking with panini press. Prices were standard to high - $9 for a panini without a side or drink. Ordered the "Egg" which was hard boiled egg, avocado spread, Gouda and Siracha sauce panini. It was pretty good. And wait. And wait some more. Finally, 20 minutes later, our food came out. It wasn't crowded - at this point, the group of four right in front of us was almost done with theirs. No complaints about the food. The jamon is a ham and cheese sandwich with strawberry jam, which is a really nice combination. The avocado was delicious, generously spread with avocado (duh) and sprinkled with cheese and cayenne for a little kick. Both were great, but 20 minutes for toast? Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon with husband and baby to grab some coffee and a quick bite. My husband use to come here when it was warehouse cafe and loved it. However since, the service has gone down. We ordered a black coffee, honey latte, avocado tartine and egg pressed sandwich. My biggest gripe was the wait to even just order anything. There are only 2 folks working on a Saturday that were also responsible for making the coffee, food, taking orders and bringing any orders to the table. There were 3 people in front of me and it took me 12 minutes just to get to the counter to place an order. From there, it took another 21 minutes (yes I was keeping track of the time) to get my food order (only took about 10 minutes to get my coffee orders). The quality of the coffee drinks and the food were great but it just took so long. The place itself is clean and has a lot of large furniture so it feels very stuffy if there is a line waiting for coffee. I'd go back but only to quickly pick up a cup of black coffee. read more

I finally tried the Warehouse Cafe after one kickboxing session at CKO. I had spent months drooling all over the pictures of their avocado toast, but never had the opportunity to try it. So does it live up to all the hype? For once, it does! My boyfriend and I came in on a Sunday at around 10:30. It wasn't too packed yet. There were a few people on their laptops inside, and still a few empty tables left outside. I'm not sure if they were just short-staffed that day, but it took them forever to take orders. Just take though - food came out in about ten minutes. You place your order at the counter, and they'll call your name when it's ready. I had the avocado toast, which also has pecorino romano and cayenne pepper. It's a bit pricey at $8, but I feel like any avocado toast is when you eat out. This one was more about their bread. It was thinly sliced, and perfectly toasted. I could totally make this at home if I can find the right type of bread, but my rendition usually consists of Wonder Bread, out of convenience. I also had the organic honey iced latte (definitely pricey at $5.50), but it did taste good. I just don't know if it was $5.50 good. He had the Jamon (smoked ham, cheddar, strawberry preserves panini). I didn't really like it. It was a weird combination for me but my boyfriend really seemed to enjoy it. I have to say though, again, they got the bread right - it was perfectly toasted. I saw someone else's order of the hummus toast, which comes with a neatly stacked layer of cucumbers. Great wifi, plenty of outlets, perfect for the average college student! Highly recommend for anyone that's a student in the downtown area or even just to get some quick tasks done. I had the black sesame latte and it was such a perfect amount of sweetness (in a natural way)? It's non-caffeinated but great for a toasty warm day, especially if you don't have a sweet tooth like me! Wanted to celebrate the start of May and some needed warm weather with a good iced coffee, and found this place two blocks from my workplace. The space is on the small side but warm and inviting, with much more outdoor table space for smoking and socializing. There were a couple people there, including the proprietor behind the counter. I had used Warehouse as a workspace before, but never actually ordered anything, so I asked the proprietor what he would recommend as an iced beverage, since the menu had a wide array of options. He recommended the Japanese iced coffee, and went onto explain the difference between that and your standard cold brew. I appreciated that he was willing to keep the customer informed, especially since most coffee drinkers nowadays want to know all about what they're consuming. As I waited, I took a peek at the pastry display, and while I resisted temptation, I did notice that the pastries were almost exactly like ones I've had at Kuppi in Edgewater. Same supplier, I presume? As for the coffee itself (they use Intelligentsia beans), it was pricey but not exorbitant, and tasted just fine. I'll pick this over Starbs and DD, but it's not life changing. I'll definitely be back, though. read more

Decided to try out this place while my boyfriend and I were in jersey city. We got the Japanese Iced coffee and a mocha iced coffee. It was a very quick stop and go visit because of the whole pandemic but I was still satisfied with what I chose. The Japanese iced coffee was refreshing and similar to a cold brew and the mocha was just the perfect sweetness although I will say I prefer the Japanese iced coffee more. Considering the location, quality, and decoration, I think the price is acceptable. It's also a great place to study because people around you are very focused on their study or work as well. They have indoor and outdoor sitting area, wooden tables and artistic lights. They also have outlets so that you can charge your laptop or phone. Water and cups are available for you.
