Took car in for nys inspection and asked how long will it take? before looking at the car the person who greeted me in the empty garage on a Friday afternoon said they need to do a full inspection and IF the car passes inspection he would call me I asked a different way , I said well seems a little slow how long if you do the inspection right now the test usually takes 15 mins or less again his response was if you pass inspection. This seemed very odd to me and gave me a different feeling like he knew something that he couldn't have know. Long story short they failed my car And quoted me $600 for back brake pads because they were low and a passenger side mirror crack. I took my car to my usual mechanic who is generally extremely busy, which is why I did not go to him for the inspection. My usual mechanic said my brake pads are low, but not low enough to fail me. They would have to be metal on metal to fail the test and as far as the side passenger mirror, I had one in my car so I had him fix my brakes because they were low anyway, and it was $200 for the front and back not 450 for just the back. Prospect auto repair is a rip off. I go to a nice man on 65th St. between 13th and 14th Ave. please check them out. There's also another very good one on 35th St. and third Avenue. read more

I'm posting this review one year after I used this shop for an NYS Inspection, oil change, tire rotation and tune up. I came in right at opening on a Saturday and had it back by closing time. What I received back was an inspected and newly stickered car that reeked of cigarette smoke. A few days later when it rained, I noticed that the windshield wipers were significantly out of wack, banging back to their starting position on every swipe. Later that summer, a check engine light appeared that never had before. I've since gotten a new inspection from another shop and all these mysterious additional issues fixed. What I came to learn was that little to no work had been done on my car and that possibly there were parts swaps done on it by Prospect Auto. I hope the experience was a fluke. They're obviously well liked by other reviewers. But I won't be going back. read more

LIARS! BROKE MY WINDSHIELD!! I left my car with them today for inspection. They called to tell me I needed new wipers, which I agreed to, and when i picked my car up there was a 9" crack in the windshield right OVER THE INSPECTION STICKER! They claimed it was already there. I CLEARLY would not have passed inspection if the crack was there! Then they claimed the crack would have had to be obstructing the windshield wipers to fail inspection....WHICH IT IS!! Then changed his story to "it needs to be 11" to fail." Which is a blatant LIE! It needs to be 6". Don't you think when you call someone to tell them they need wipers you say "hey by the way you have a crack in your windshield." BEWARE!!!! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!! The mechanic EDDIE buys busted cars, uses his little tool to turn off check engine lights, puts little to no work into them, then sells them thinking the seller won't notice! Well I did! And I will never deal with this business ever again! I am so disgusted with this place. I found Eddie, one of the mechanics here on Craigslist when I was looking to purchase a car. At first, he was very professional and friendly. We agreed on the price, and he even gave me $100 off after my attempt of negotiating. We did a test drive, in which he wouldn't personally let me drive (RED FLAG) but we drove around and I mentioned to him the grinding noise and the steering issue I noticed. He said he would fix it immediately. He even offered to wash the car for me after I asked him to. You know, I wanted to post my new baby on Facebook and IG so she had to be clean! I asked what else was wrong with the car and his exact words were "nothing! It's in perfect condition. The only thing you need is a new spare tire." I laughed and said, "you know you're my mechanic forever now right?" So I left my deposit and was told to come back Monday. It was a Saturday. So Monday, I came into him, paid the balance and went t the DMV and took care of the registration, etc. This was MARCH 2, 2015. I get back to get my car and the car wasn't washed. Not a real big deal but if you promise something, I expect you to follow through but I didn't complain. I asked him to just do the inspection right then but he said I still had until April to do the inspection and to come back another day. (RED FLAG!) March 5th, I text Eddie about the check engine light being on and when I go to him, he puts something in the car and the light goes off and he tells me to let him know when it comes back on. It came back on 20 miles later. He says come in anytime and he will take care of it. So 3 weeks later, I come in. I am needing an oil change, the inspection renewed, and to check the power steering fluid or see if I need a wheel alignment thing because that initial issue he said was fixed, was obviously not fixed. EDDIE calls me an hour later telling me he can't pass my car because it needs O2 sensors. That's why the light is on and that it costs $400. I said, but I bought it from you like this. This light came on 3 days after purchase. How do you sell me a car that you know wouldn't pass? He says, I sold you the car 3 months ago. What?! It's been 1 month exactly! (Thinking to myself) Why didn't you do the inspection when I first asked? Because you knew it wouldn't pass then and you were trying to get over on me! He says, fine no problem, I can do it for $350 but don't even worry abt the oil change. I'll do that free. So I get back to the shop and I decided I don't want him dealing with the car anymore. I can't trust him. He didn't fix the initial problem, he knew there was a sensor problem and knew it wouldn't pass when he sold it to me. I tell him this and he gets irate and starts brushing me off, not listening to anything I'm saying and yells at me to give him his $30 for the oil change. I refused! You just said the oil change would be complimentary, and now that you're being rude, I'm not paying for anything else! He threatens not to give me my car and I had to call the police! Once he hears me talking to the police dispatcher, he then pulls my car out and asks me not to come back, AS IF I DID SOMETHING WRONG for calling him out on his bull crap! Disgusting practice! And I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau! If I could give 0 stars, that's exactly what this place would have gotten!!! read more

Place is a RIP OFF, greedy as f. Went in to ask them to take off the lug nut- he said pull in, . I didn't have a good socket at home so I figured anyone can do in a sec, no need to lift it or nothing, literally all you need is a socket which every mechanic has. he took a hammer, slammed the socket on a lug nut and took it out in less then 20 second. i asked how much and he said 30$. now i am not a cheap person when it comes to this and would give him a 20$ even if he said, dont worry about it, but his attitude about it was so greedy that anything else would sound better than the way he asked 30$ for this after i basically got him out of his chair in this empty shop. no wonder. i dont expect people to work for nothing but be rational. It is a service, be polite, greet, and say thank you. that's how you make business. The tire shop next door took out a screw out of my tire, sealed it, and didnt even wanna charge me for it. i gave him a 20$ and would always reccomend it. but this place forget about it. read more

$1,600 for some emergency repair work regarding a fuel line leak and the elective replacement of my front brakes pads, new o2 sensor, and new cat converter. Two days later my brakes go out completely while I'm driving and almost hit someone. Take it back the next day, he tells me not to worry about the money because I just dumped my paycheck to him right before Christmas. It just needed the basic first maintenance stuff (oil change, tires rotated, etc.). I dealt with Eddie who seemed to be everything the other reviewers were talking about. Took my car here for inspection as I have for the past 8 years. I always knew this wasn't a place I would bring my cars for extensive repairs but for brake pads, wheel rotation and inspection, they were great. Until this October when I had my car inspected and new pads put on the front brakes. The following week I took off my front wheel to change the timing belt (myself, I'm a lifelong home mechanic). One of the nuts was cross-threaded and the stud snapped when I tried to unscrew it. The only explanation was that they had cross-threaded the nut when installing the wheel with the airgun. The nut could be seen to be cross-threaded on the broken off stud. I brought it to Prospect and with hardly a glance they denied denied denied all responsibility and refused to replace the $5 stud. They were the ones who put the wheel on and somehow blamed me. This is not the way to do business. I own a business and when someone feels wronged by me, I make it right. I don't blame them and make them pay for my mistakes. Stay away from monkeys with air guns. These guys are chumps. read more

Through a recommendation, I have been using Prospect Auto repair for some years now. Needing to have your car repaired is a drag, but going to a repair shop that does honest repairs at a fair price is a relief. Everytime I show up ( unannounced and without an appointment!) both Eddie and Ehab are happy to help. If they can they will always do the repair in an hour or two. Just this week my car needed repair, I showed up in the late afternoon, they kept the car over night and called me before 10am to say it was ready. Fast but apart from that they are Dishonest Dishonest Dishonest! Took my car there to get an inspection. It was first thing in the morning and the mechanic started the inspection right away. After completing and confirming that everything was in order. He called me over to say it would not pass as it needed brake pads and rotors. I had just had the brake pads changed a year ago, drove 11,000 miles mostly highway in that time. There were no squeaks and the car stopped smoothly. He tells me this after removing the current inspection sticker knowing that I won't be able to risk parking it on the street without getting a violation. I say I'll get a second opinion. To top it off he says I have to pay cash, even though they do accept credit cards, another clear indication of his dishonesty. The next morning I take the car to another mechanic, who passes the car and when I ask him he says the brake pads are good for another 15,000 to 20,000 miles. Wasted my time and money and tried to replace parts that didn't need replacing to extort a few hundred dollars, while leaving me wrongly exposed to getting a violation. read more
