pastries !

Got take out from across the street and it was raining cats and dogs earlier today so we booked it back to the car. We were parked outside of Modelo's, in a meter parking spot. We decided to go inside after contemplating for 5 minutes if we wanted to go out in the rain again, and I'm so glad we decided to check Modelo's out. The staff was really nice and super helpful with explaining the pastries we had questions about. We decided to try a bunch of their pastries out and were not disappointed. The chicken and cheese coxinha was not like anything I have ever tried before and it was so good, as well as super filling! My favorites from what we got were the cheese bread (Pão de queijo) and the condensed milk coconut cake. The cheese bread is incredibly addicting and has a nice chew. We ended up getting 9 of them to bring home. The coconut cake was super moist and not too sweet at all. It was perfect. **They also have plenty of seating here, including a couple tables & window seats!! We still have a couple desserts left to try out that we didn't get to earlier because we were so stuffed but I have a feeling that they will taste just as good as everything else we have tried from here. 10/10.

Came here on a Saturday and it was fairly busy. You order at the counter- it's a no-frills kind of spot and it's not exactly aesthetic. It's not the type of cafe you'd want to hang out in all day, but that's ok because you go here for the food. We got a breakfast plate, tapioca crepes with shredded chicken in them, pao de quejo, a type of Portuguese corn bread, brigadeiro, and a Portuguese donut with Bavarian cream inside. Everything we tried was really good--I want to go back to try everything in the pastry/dessert case!

This Brazilian bakery has been one of my favorite places in Somerville for over 5 years. They have everything. I usually get the tropical açaí bowl or a black iced coffee. Other things I'd recommend are their cakes, cheese bread (Pão de queijo), Coxinha with fish filling, and their salad bar (which is pay by weight). They also have a butcher/meat section, I've gotten their sausage there which is worth trying. Theyve also got a little grocery section with South American products and candies. I believe this is also a family business, over the years I've seen different family members working, and everyone is super nice.

Love this place! Good food, including good sandwiches and burgers. Their breakfast sandwiches are great, so greasy and cheesy, delicious.

The staff was friendly and the sandwich with egg, fries, beef patty, lettuce, mayo and ketchup was one of the best sandwiches I have had.

A good place for a quick bite near Harvard Yard, offering a wide variety of cooked dishes,…read moresandwiches, and sushi. My friend is a 77-year-old Indian male, a man I've known for years from seeing each other at Cambridge/Harvard and NY Public Libraries often for over a decade. He was wearing a bright blue puffy coat when the manager accused him of being a teenage African American shoplifter and banned him from the store. They even kept his glasses, which he left behind during the confrontation. This is one of the most absurd and disturbing cases of mistaken identity and profiling I've ever witnessed. How does a business confuse a 77-year-old Indian man with a 17-year-old African American teenager, and then treat him like a criminal without evidence? My colleague is not a thief; he is a paying customer. After seeing how he was treated, I have no confidence in the judgment, training, or basic fairness of the people running this store and will not be returning.

One of the things that originally drew me to In Season was that they actually allow you to choose…read morethe items you want. I find this so much more useful and functional than receiving a weekly mystery box of fruits and vegetables that I quite possibly don't have any interest in. After all, a girl can only eat so many apples and bean sprouts... The products available for purchase include dairy, fresh pastas, fruits, vegetables, meats, bread, and more. Your delivery date is based on your location. For instance, I live in Cambridge, so my food arrived Tuesday morning bright and early (before 8:00 AM). I was beyond happy with the presentation of my order. The delivery person placed all of my perishable items in the cooler I set out in our lobby, and my other items were neatly packed in brown paper bags. All of the produce was clean and attractive (even the potatoes were tidy), and not a single egg was broken. I point this out because PeaPod always breaks my eggs and it drives me crazy. In Season is a bit pricey, but no more so than Whole Foods. My only true quibble with the service was that the meat comes frozen. I guess I was expecting brown paper packages tied up with string and a hand delivery by Julie Andrews, but let's be realistic, the majority of the fresh meat I buy ends up in the freezer anyway. I doubt I'll be utilizing this service every week, but I want to stress again that the quality of these products is phenomenal and I definitely envision having a delivery from time to time.

Alex: Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Then, the doorbell rings. What the fuck? Robbers/rapists/murderers don't ring the doorbell! I wait a few minutes and then I hear a bicycle taking off down the road. Oh! Duh. My delivery is here! Thursday I had placed an online order with In Season. They promise my goodies will be on my porch, lovingly hand delivered via bicycle courier, before 7:30 in the morning. I go out and grab my bag of goodies. Fresh blueberries, raspberries, heirloom tomatoes, fingerling potatoes, fresh pasta and a hunk of locally made cheddar. Fabulous. Sure beats finding a serial killer on your porch at 5:30 in the a.m. The important details if you are lucky enough to live in their delivery zone (JP, Brookline, Somerville and Camridge. Suck it, Boston!): Place your order online before Friday night. Select from a small, but nice, selection of fruits, veggies, cheese, dairy, fresh pasta and even meat. Wake up on Tuesday morning with something to look forward to. It's all locally grown and made products. And delivered by bicycle. What a nice and easy way to lower your carbon footprint.
