What a wonderful group of professionals and sweet humans. I have been with Modern Animal for my vet care for about a year now. They were so kind to me and my cat. The membership ended up making a lot of sense for me (my cat was very old and sick) given the free visits and significant discount on tests. I saw them quite a few times this year. Every time I went they gave me every possible option for her care. No pressure to sell me on expensive extra things, but plenty of thoughtful info and advice. I loved having the option to chat with a nurse or dr on the app for quick advice without having to drive her in. It was also super easy to press two buttons to get a refill order for her meds and they did fast shipping when I couldn't make it to the office. Are they the cheapest? Probably not? Though never in my life have I left a vet and thought "wow that was cheap" so it's all relative. The offices are super clean and nice, communications were easy, and the people as I mentioned were so lovely and caring. When I had to make the heart-wrenching decision to let her go I felt like the whole office felt so deeply for her and me. They led us to a quiet, candle-lit room, and everything was done with a level of reverence I never thought possible. I was a hot mess but they really cared for me. Today, I got a really beautiful gift and multiple hand written notes specifically about my cat and our whole situation from all the doctors and nurses who helped me that day. Came to this location for a technician visit (booster vaccination). Appointment was at 3 but got there around 2:40 as I know parking in the area can be tough. They share a small lot with Healthy Spot behind the clinic off of Playhouse Alley but very limited spots. One side of the lot is marked 30 minutes for healthy spot and when I was there there was definitely a lady checking up on those spaces. There is otherwise street parking a a larger paid lot a short walk away. That said, even if you park behind the building the entrance is in front, off of Colorado. As mentioned, I showed up about 20 minutes early for my dog's appointment and like any other location was promptly checked in at the front desk. Waited about 5 minutes and my dog's name was called. Since it was just a booster, we were pretty much in and out in 15 minutes but again did not feel rushed by staff and made sure all my questions were answered. The only downsides to this location is the parking situation and the fact that they aren't open on the weekends. read more

She had patience with my talkative mother which was great haha and she explained a number of different options available to my dogs and what they all meant. I've had many appts in the past few months with MA. I am a fur mama with 4 babies, so I've been busy introducing them to the staff at the Pasadena facility. I've had to finance a few of my office visits because vet care gets expensive. There was an invoice that had been accidentally recorded twice, and I was making payments with Affirm. The billing dept wasted no time in helping me get an invoice voided, as well as explain a few items to me that I had questions regarding, and deal with a prescription issue that I wanted credit for. They talked with me, and solved every thing quickly and efficiently! The billing dept was so helpful. Saved me a little money on something too! The company works with Affirm. If you can't afford to pay for the whole bill, they allow you to apply with Affirm, and the invoice gets paid and your pet gets the care same day, and you can make payments! It's all so easy and streamlined. I do not have the best credit, and yet I got approved a couple times which was really great. Again Modern Animal is the place for all your pet care. The entire team--from vets Dr Cortez, Dr Ohtomo to vet techs Deva and Juan to receptionist Scott, exude kindness and truly care about their patients. My cat Sawyer only knew them for a short time but so glad his was in their care. They did all that they could to help him get better. Unfortunately he had end-stage kidney disease and crossed over the rainbow bridge. Dr. Cortez showed extreme compassion and empathy during the end. The vet was SO knowledgeable about anxiety meds and the vet tech gave helpful recommendations. I've struggled to find a vet who knows about all the various anxiety meds and she was on top of it and helped increase his dose so that he's doing much better. They also let me be in the back with my dog while they got a urine sample as he was very stressed. He reacted fairly aggressively and everyone was so kind and patient which meant the world. I started getting emotional seeing my dog so stressed and they also checked in on me and supported me through it (shoutout Zucely)! They even gave me a personalized goodie bag with a drawing of my dog - made me tear up!!! Because of the (quite reasonable) annual membership fee, it inherently creates a smaller client pool, which means you are less of a number and more of an actual person/pet. The technician and veterinary team are truly compassionate, patient, kind and genuine people who take their time, are thorough in the examinations and care, and are not in any way rushed to get in and out and to the next patient. The Modern Animal app -- which you use to schedule appointments, make payments, chat with live representatives and also available for 24/7 on-demand video calls with an emergency nurse -- is highly intuitive and polished, with a fantastic and easy-to-understand UI/UX. I wanted to update my review because I think it's important... After a very quick recurrence of a cancerous mass, I made the difficult decision to euthanize my baby after a long and happy life. On the morning of August 16th while I was working, my Mom notified me that Squidgy wasn't doing very well and I felt I had to significantly speed up the process to *that* day. The people available via the chat and in-office at Pasadena worked tirelessly to fit us in for that evening at 4:30 after Dr. Ohtomo had finished up doing a surgery. They saved us a parking spot and helped us through every step. I was devastated beyond anything I could have ever imagined and they were there for us completely. I want to thank Dr. Ohtomo, Juan Tamayo, Scott L, and Erika from the Pasadena office and Melissa Evans, Missy Fox, and Dana Szymeczek from the chats from the bottom of my heart. Our dog Frannie is quite sensitive and fearful and Tiffany is the most wonderful with her! Caring, kind, and patient always. She keeps her calm during an array of testing/procedures. She's actually magic and keeps our dog feeling comfortable and safe! It is so relieving to have someone you trust entirely when you have a reactive dog - especially when it comes to handling and patience! She also goes above and beyond to make us feel at ease since we're always worried about our puppy! Tiffany for president!!!! :) We also love Dr. Lam. He performed our dogs spay and he did an incredible job! He is so informative, kind, and patient with our dogs and us! We always have lots of questions and concerns regarding our dogs which are basically our children and Dr Lam is always patient with our questions! With highly active puppy rescue dogs we've been through a lot of vet visits and Dr. Samuelson and Dr. Maynard have also been fabulous! Highly recommend visiting any of these Drs and Tiffany!! It is so efficient using the app and there is consistent follow up before and after visits. There is also 24/7 virtual care, the app gives us access to everything- previous visits, upcoming vaccinations needed, all medical history, scheduling appointments, and urgent care appointments. Modern Animal has been a lifesaver during some of the most stressful times and has always put our dogs health as a number one priority! Exams are free with membership. The membership cost is basically a vet visit or two to ANY other place. The access you have to care is 100% worth it to get the membership. The cost of procedures and testing with Modern Animal is higher than other places, but we think it's worth it to know that our dogs health and care is their top priority. And the efficiency and fluidity of how they operate is unmatched. The only thing missing is emergency care. Impressed by the cleanliness of the space, and especially how their nurse technician Tiffany and Dr. Carina Cortez loved on our furry family member. Very positive experience all around. After a bad experience where my dog was unnecessarily muzzled and held down just for routine vaccines last year (at Glendale Small Animal), I vowed never to return and decided to find a new Vet team. I have been anxiously looking at local vets in the area trying to find the most affordable, the best service, the most transparent, and caring team. Every single time I thought I found a "good vet", their prices were actually the same if not higher than modern animal. I decided to go ahead with modern animal mainly because I've used their services in the past. I was very overwhelmed on the first visit when the nurse was throwing so many cost estimates at me (TBF I was running on 4 hours of sleep and only had coffee for breakfast). After the visit, I compared the prices of modern animal to local animal hospitals, clinics, DVMs, and honestly, the estimates I got were very fair. We've all been in the situation where we show up to a vet for one concern and get blindsided by a huge cost estimate only to be told that these services are necessary for your pet's wellbeing. I'm glad that modern animal tries to prevent that with their transparent pricing. The staff is very nice but just remember that it's okay to say no to certain services, you're the one who decides what's best for your pet and your budget. (I subtracted a star because the front desk guy was pretty busy so it took him a minute to attend to me and I also don't recall being told about the lepto booster before agreeing to the vaccine initially. Again, I was sleep deprived and pretty overwhelmed.) Here's some cost estimate examples from my last vet (Sweet Home Vet) in North Hollywood in 2024: Office visits: $75 vs. Modern Animal: $80 (without membership) Dental cleanings with extractions: $1500+ vs. Modern Animal: $1,375+ (without membership) Bordetella (oral): $30 vs. Modern Animal: $44 (without membership) Rabies (3 year): $25 vs. Modern Animal: $85 (without membership) Neuter/Spay for small dogs: $1,100+ vs. Modern Animal: $577+ (without membership) Clearly, in some areas you will save some money and other areas, you may end up spending more. I don't ever write bad reviews but this is one of those frustrating experiences that make you question if a telehealth model really mixes in with animals requiring a more human touch :/ Was so excited to try this place, though it was a long drive for my more anxious cat. When I arrived to the area, I tried to get ahold of them to confirm what the parking lot was but was directed to an automated corporate voice message. Frustrating but I was able to locate their complimentary lot myself -- which in there were no spots available, besides one with their cone blocking it. There was a parking spot adjacent for the next door business, so I called the corporate number again and it told me to use the app for location questions -- I called within the app and still no answer for some reason. I end up going back to the farther parking lot I had to pay for. Finally when walking back to the door where the complimentary lot was, there's a Modern Animal standee blocking it that says "MODERN ANIMAL ENTER FROM COLORADO BLVD" which is all the way around the block, the opposite side of the street, like no way??? But with it being the cutoff to our appt, I just speedwalk with my poor anxious girl in her carrier, all the way around from the back lot to the front, past multiple businesses, past Anytime Fitness, past Urth, past a whole street of loud cars. Finally make it in and the desk attendant welcomes me with a smile but tells me they can't see my cat because they strictly enforce the policy of cancelling the appointment if you arrive 10 min past. Wow. Honestly tough deadline but I get that doctors have schedules. Ultimately though, I'm late because of your company's inaccessibility through an automated, connection-less interface so I wish it wasn't such a AI scripted, corporate talk track response. He then gave a walkthrough on how to use the app for the future as though it were obviously there as a solution the whole time, even though I called it / had to find out by calling the corporate number. A vet associate came out and apologized, saying that Pasadena parking is difficult which while true, not the only problem, I think. When she showed me out, she took me through the whole office where there were many techs and doctors lounging in between appointments (to which I started wondering why they had such strict appt regulations) and when we got to the back door to the lot she let me know that usually, patients enter from here. Wait... what, the same back door that has a sign that says enter from the front... UGH. Generally speaking, vet visits are a stressful thing for me and my furbaby. While still stressful, I've loved my visits with Modern Animal. This is my first experience with a vet where I've been able to go in the back and be with my cat during procedures. While my cat was getting some bloodwork and injections, she started frantically looking around and was able to stretch her head up in an awkward position where she could see me. She seemed to instantly calm down. She then held that awkward pose, continuing to hold eye contact, and laid still until they were done. I now feel awful for all the prior vet visits where I couldn't be by her side to help calm her. I have found all the vets and vet techs at Modern Animal to be down to earth, kind, capable, and personable. I also like their app, transparency with pricing, and ease with messaging and scheduling. My only suggestion for improvement would be to create a system so that cats and any other animals who aren't used to the outdoors to be able to routinely (not just for procedures) use the back entrance for check-in to reduce the stress on them... having to hustle around the block or run through the pet store next door, apologizing for the ridiculously loud meowing isn't ideal. Wonder if the city would allow you to hold the front street parking spots for short-term pet un/loading? Other than a little stress getting inside the building, Modern Animal has exceeded my expectations! read more

I went out of my way to get labs for my dog JUST so she can get her anxiety meds filled. I was told only a Vet tech appointment was needed. I went to the vet tech appointment on July 28th. I spent over $100 on babysitting, lost $300 in wages, and drove an hour out just to get these labs, spending $800 more on labs and misc items on that day. Once the labs were drawn; I was told by the vet technician we were GOOD to refill our prescription. Ofcourse now my prescription refill request from chewy is back and you refuse to refill it and say I was due for an exam August 7? Why didn't you say anything when I was already there?! I can't lose another 400-500 dollars and can't make it out until I have childcare in October but there's no leeway. No willingness to help out a new mom. No understanding that YOU GAVE ME FALSE Information. And when I'm frustrated and need the help, you're quick to close the chat and call it a day. Husband and I moved to the Pasadena area last year. We have an aging little terrier with a host of problems and I was worried about finding a good local vet. They've talked me out of a panic a couple times now. Recently, our old dog went in for oral surgery and had five teeth pulled, and she's recovered so well. He had my cat checked up carefully, and provided me some valuable recommendations on how to maintain oral health for my daughter cat. its my 2nd time to brought my cat to him. he is so professional. also, the front desk gentleman was so kind and helpful! the reason that why I dissatisfied was because the nurse. her name is Shan and she was not trained well. she had my cat did the phlebotomy. at the first time, she tried on my cat's left leg, but blood couldn't flows to the syringe successfully. and then, she moved the butterfly needle left and right while the needle was still inside of my cat's left leg and then she was trying to find the vein AND she FAILED! after that, she tried to do another one on my cat's left forearm again. and she MADE the same MISTAKE! she was asking "why it's so hard to draw the blood?!" I'm a medical student, Let me tell you it's because you didn't find the right place! BE AWARE OF NURSE SHAN. if your pet is going to have a blood test, tell then that you want another one. she is so unprofessional. read more

My vet came here and I am so happy we found her. Parking is a breeze but I also came in the morning. It is near the urth Cafe which may impact parking. Going in is already a different vibe compared to other vet clinics. It is calm and they offer water and flavored bubbly water for pet owners. You check in and wait with your pet. The rooms are big and full of windows My dog was so happy to be able to see who was approaching and leaving. They really do create a calming environment. He also got a licky mat with cheese spread while I answered questions about his history. The vet came in and checked him out. I think just seeing my dog so relaxed was reassuring to me. It wasn't just that he recognized the vet but just then energy and the way the officr is set up. I was even able to go back and pet him while they extracted a sample. Jeanette got us in last minute when we brought our baby in an emergency situation. He wasn't breathing properly, and his heart rate was up. We took him straight there, and she got him to see the Vet right away. They gave him oxygen and thankfully, he was all better without any issues. Apparently he had swallowed his food way too fast and with too much excitement that it had overloaded his system. We were so thankful to Jeanette for getting us in and not denying us seeing the vet right away so so so thankful! The good and the bad: Good- Doctors and assistants are nice. Office is clean. Scheduling appointments is super easy. Bad- They require that you have a credit card on file but they will charge your card without informing you beforehand. They charged my card without giving me a heads up for an invoice that they forgot to charge from 2 months ago. The Modern Animal business model is great, but they should not have the policy of requiring a credit card if they are going to be messy with their billing. read more
