I went to Modern Cuts for the first time. I had Jazmin as hair stylist, she was very nice and sweet, and did great job on cut and color. She spent time listening what I wanted for my hair and communicated with me by showing photos before cut and color. She made sure I was happy with my hair and even offered me to come back if I am not satisfied with color of my hair. Jazmin is wonderful I will be back for more. read more

I called on nov 4 and made an appointment for a nov 5 afternoon slot. When I arrived on time for my appointment, I walked in and was greeted somewhat rudely by a woman named Jeanette who simply said "I'm not taking any more hair cuts today." When I informed her that I had an appointment, she showed no concern for this, and simply gave a half hearted "sorry there's nothing I can do. It's not my fault I didn't take that call." As a customer this is an exceedingly annoying response, as a functional business should work as a team and provide the bests service possible. It was bad enough that I was not helped even though I had an appointment, but Jeanette made the experience much worse by showing no remorse for the situation, acted annoyed, and made no effort to remedy the situation. read more

Just moved to Modesto and I was nervous to find a salon just for a trim and maybe in hopes to find a stylist I can keep. I got my cut by Amanda who did a awesome job asking exactly what I wanted and didn't disappoint! All of the girls in the salon were very sweet and personable! I'm extremely picky when it comes to my hair & I'm straight forward when I dont end up liking it so prayers for whoever is my stylist. Ive been going to the same two stylist for that past 7yrs nearlly 2hrs away but I needed a last min cut & couldn't do that drive. Made an appmnt, they gave me Heather, sadly, she was running behind only a few min which I really didn't mind the wait.. but obviously they do (tells u alot about the place) & had Angelica take me in. I was about to chop off almost more than half my hair but she saved me from doing that by saving the length & gave me the exact style I usually get with my usual stylist costing half the price. Go see sol, she'll hook u up with a cool fade. My hair grow in all directions and is very thick do not many cosmologists nor barbers can take this beast which rests on my head. But Sol gets it right. I get skin on the sides mid fade and two on top with a line up and it's perfect every time with her. Thing is she only works weekends I believe. So if ur sick of paying too much just because barbershop are a fad now. I mean some barbershops are cool don't get me wrong, but not in modesto. Go out to the bay for a real hook up. The day before my appointment, I went to this saloon and immediately, Tracey approached me and greeted me. I asked her specifically about highlights and she said that she could do it with no problem. I showed her pictures and she said with full confidence that she can do it. She said that she'll charge $150 with highlights, a hair cut, and style. I booked an appointment for the next day thinking that she can do it. Through the hair appointment I noticed that there was no highlights and it was the complete opposite of what I have wanted. While she was washing my hair, she even admitted to me that she was not happy with her work and felt bad. She had acknowledged that she completely messed up my hair. She asked me to come again next week to put more highlights but I politely denied her offer. I asked her to charge me for what she has already done, even though it wasn't what we had agreed upon. She didn't even cut or style my hair, so there was no reason to charge me the full price. Then, she told me that she will call the cops if I didn't pay the full price. Keep in mind, that we had agreed upon a hair style, a hair cut, and highlights for $150. She didn't style my hair, she did not cut my hair, she also damaged my hair during the process. On top of that, it was the complete opposite of what I have wanted. I have every right to try to negotiate with her but she called the cops on me. She embarrassed me in front of the clients and kept insinuating that I am cheap and only want a discount. This, is absolutely disgusting. As a paying customer I have every right to critique her performance and attempt to negotiate with her. She is very rude and unprofessional. I did not deserve her attacking me publicly and making a huge scene. I did eventually pay the full price but I will be taking legal action. She has not only completely ruined my hair but she was very rude. I have spent hundreds of dollars for my hair. I have never seen a hair dresser call the cops because a customer was unhappy. This is very unprofessional and I highly advise you guys to stay away from this lady. read more

I came here about two weeks ago to get a haircut on a Saturday. The last time I got an actual haircut was when Heather was working here, and she did exactly what I asked and I was extremely pleased. She also took her time cutting my hair because I emphasized that I don't get haircuts often and that a bad haircut was what I was really afraid of. I don't get haircuts often but it was time I did because my hair was dead due to the damage from a previous hair color, so I wanted to get rid of all the dead ends so I called in around 4:30 on a Saturday and I asked to make an appointment for he same day and come in at 5:15. So I came in and there weren't too many stylists, so I got stuck with Stacy, yeah she was nice at first. And I didn't have a specific style in mind and I just told her that I wanted to get all of the dead ends cut off and I emphasized that I DO NOT WANT A CHOPPY LOOK. And that's exactly what I got. My haircut looks like absolute shit, looks like I gave scissors to a ten year old without a license to cut my hair. It's not blended or anything, I could've done this crap of a job by myself with my eyes closed. I put so much emphasis on how I did not want my haircut to look choppy, not only did it look choppy but once she was done and showed me, there were stragglers; pieces that were way too long and needed to be cut to match the rest of the length. I asked her to at least fix it three times and after the third time she just took off that gown and didn't even ask me if I liked it. She just expected me to like it even though it looks like crap. My layers look stupid, and it's not even blended so everything looks choppy. I think this hands down the worst haircut I've ever gotten. My hair was also really long, even though it was dead and needed to be cut, I'd rather keep that dead hair than have this shitty haircut. Every girl knows the pain of cutting their long hair really short, it's not easy. I actually cried when I got home because I hate it so much, and I've never cried over my hair ever before, yeah it's pathetic and it will grow back but the frustration of having to wait for it to grow back is going to be hell in itself. I should've read all of the other reviews and see who was highly recommended. I posted a photo as well. read more

The shop is clean well stocked in beauty supply area which by the way is awesome! Not only can I get my hair done I can buy reccomended products to maintain it. Love all the stylists as well. My hair was down to my waist, was so nervous to cut it. Went in and cut it to the middle of my back, I asked for a lot of layers. The length was perfect but omg my layers are so messed up!!! Totally un even and not blended at all. It literally looks like I just cut my own hair with no idea of what I was doing. I'm so disappointed. I waited 2 years to finally let someone touch my hair and I regret going here so bad. Never again!!! I go here every four weeks to dye my hair and get it cut. I love the girls here. They are very funny and out going. I go to Heather who dyes my hair blond just how i want it. (I went somewhere else and they totally screwed up my hair and heather, in one shot, fixed it all) My hair was so unhealthy from all the bleaching and they were able to get me back to my hair feeling soft. I Highly recommend this place. I have never been just a walk in so i recommend just calling before you show up at least to make sure you don't have to wait. :) read more

I visited Modern cuts about a week ago and this was the first time I'd had my hair cut by someone I didn't know in about 6 years. I was put with Tiffany and I requested to do a long a-line but more or a lob. She did exactly what I asked for and I really liked it. After wearing it for about a week I decided that I wanted a more drastic Aline and wanted to take it up more in the back. When I got there, I was told Tiffany was just going on lunch, I said that I would wait it was not a big deal. But Tiffany hurried out of the back and stated "you know you are going to have to pay again since its been over a week." I let her know that I was happy with the first cut I just wanted to go shorter and I did not mind paying again. She hurried me to her char sat me down and started cutting. This first time she took her time and I loved it. This time she hurried through and was done in ten minutes. My hair was choppy, uneven and looked like an aline that had grown out. I have never cried over my hair I almost did this time. I WILL NEVER go here again. I would have waited for her to take her lunch instead she insisted on doing it right then and there and because she was in a hurry my hair paid the price. read more

I am don't have a go to haircut person so I decided to check this place out since it was recommended by a friend. I called ahead to ask the price of a haircut. She told me $17. I go in and have an great experience. Nice girl who cut my hair, no wait. She asked if she would like to blow dry my hair and usually every place blow dry your wet hair before you leave. My hair looks great but when I went to pay I was charged $25. Now I question the price and was told i was charged for my hair being blown dry. Now $8 is no big deal when your hair came out looking great, it just I was never told about the additional charge. Every business has a cost and needs to be profitable, I completely understand that, but it should really let it's customer know of additional charges so they agree. The poor girl who cut my hair was unaware of the additional charge herself and felt bad. I paid the $25 with no problem. But I definitely feel this place could benefit from letting it's customers know of additional charges. read more

Pretty lousy customer service. The hours on the door said that they were open until 7 p.m. When my son walked up to the door at 6:45 pm one employee quickly ran over to the door and shut off the open sign making it clear that he couldn't come in. My son gets a buzz cut that never takes more than 10 minutes to perform. There were employees that we could see through the glass cleaning their stations, not cutting anyone's hair. Even if they weren't taking any more clients, the right thing to do would have been to politely apologize, and explain that no cuts are given after a certain time. It seems if you post your business hours, then you are open until that time. read more
