Not all solid wood floor installers are created equal. After 3 months with a torn up house and two terrible solid wood floor installers, LLFlooring contracted with MDF to install my wood floor. Sarah and Brian were great. However, Yoshi " THE MASTER CRAFTSMAN" was able to install 1500 sq ft solid wood floors in approximately one week and this included the baseboards too. Do not use this company to install your floors. They contract for Lumber Liquidators. My house was empty for them to install floating laminate floors correctly but of course I was wrong. My floating laminate floors have so many issues. A lot of the edges around the house had collapsing floors and cuts were made so short that I can see gaps around baseboards. Even his guys says some of the underlayment were not added in floors which I have found. I would not recommend them to do your floors. read more

We had MDF install wood floors in our first floor a few years back. So when it came time to do the upstairs, we requested MDF and were pleasantly surprised that we recognized Yoshi when the estimate was performed. Yoshi answered all of our questions and was very informative. Yoshi and Chance were extremely professional, VERY hard working and communicated throughout the whole installation process. I would highly recommend using the MDF team for installers to anyone and would certainly want them to perform any future work we may have. A month after my floor was installed we had minor cracks in the floor. They came out the next week and repaired it free. MDF is a good company! We used Modern Design Flooring through Lumber Liquidators with GREAT RESULTS! I would use them again and I will refer them for other business! I will note the work crew lead by Jesse Eads finished my major floor installation ahead of schedule. They were courteous, professional, worked hard with a keen attention to detail. They also ensured the work area was clean after they completed the LONG days tasks; even bringing in an additional crew to finish. My home is an even better place because of MDF! read more

Wow, Was I impressed! After having a wood floor installed just a month before by another installer who used glue ( flood ruined the flooring) they came in and laid the flooring click and lock. They were clean and thorough and I could not have asked for anyone better to do the work. Brian even came back a couple of months later to adjust the baseboard for the heater vent. What a team. They cleaned up and left everything in much better shape. I was so impressed my neighbors are going to use them soon for their flooring!! Top notch all the way!!! read more

An AWESOME Job on our floors!!! Sarah came out and gave me a great estimate on the new house my wife and I purchased. During the estimate Sarah gave us options on completing the flooring but was never 'pushy' - she always gave us options. During the process of deciding what we going to install, Sarah responded to all of our questions and provided a very competitive estimate. They even demoed the existing tile!!! Needless to say, we finally made up our minds our floors turned out amazing!!! Being in the construction industry I know the importance of being on time and meeting your commitments along with a quality job. Needless to say, Brian (Sarah's husband) and his entire crew were there on time and completed the project on time as well - and that's with me adding baseboards to the project. His crew did a WAY better job than we expected and WAY better than I could have done. We have got a ton of compliments from our friends and family about how good the flooring turned out. Yes they installed the floors but complained about moving furniture when we paid them to. Didn't clean up after everyday as if we don't live in our house. So I ended up cleaning and caulking all the nails on the base boards because apparently "that's not included" just a sloppy work ethic. Not saying they don't know what they are doing just, maybe a simple broom and a trash bag. read more

Do not use this business. This company installed wood flooring in my home and had power saws cutting wood inside my house for 2 days and one guy cutting on my front porch with the front door open the entire time. We had painted the 4 rooms they were to put flooring in and they banged up walls, not to mention wood dust plastered on walls and window coverings, closets, clothes windows. It is throughout my home and it is a huge mess. They showed up to our home without under layment. I had just talked to them several days before regarding this and apparently his wife did not relay info. To come into someone's home just before the holidays and destroy it is unconscionable. It will take me weeks to clean it all up. They did not clean up all the glue from the wood. It all makes me so mad. Front entry was a huge mess along with a shoe rack that had shoes on it. They were completely covered. I could go on and on. I would not have given one star but yelp doesn't let you post without it. Sarah, I'm going to respond to a few inaccuracies. First, I contacted you several times prior to the installation because we knew the weather forecast called for rain. I specifically asked you what will happen if it rains. You stated no problem, they have a cover they can put up to cut under to protect their saws. Remember that? Well when they showed up the first thing I asked was about the tent cover and was told they did not have anything like that. Now keep in mind all our rooms are cleared out including the master bedroom and the holidays are fast approaching. They then said they can cut inside and it wouldn't be bad. With really not much choice that's what happened. I specifically asked and was told it wouldn't be a mess. Boy was that wrong. I also asked about the front door area where they were cutting and I said, Now that's not going to make a mess out here because we had a shoe rack filled with shoes, a seating area & potted plants. Again I was told No. That was not the case. With the front door open the entire time and plumes of wood cuttings blowing right in guess where it went Sarah. All over the 4 bedrooms of furniture and beds we had moved out of the rooms, Along with art work on the walls and the stained glass entry area. In the office they were also cutting. With no dust collector on the saw it was about 8 to 10 inches from newly painted walls and the dust was shooting out straight onto the wall. The hallway where they were not working was also covered and I can post photos if you would like me to show you the extent of the mess. Sarah we are not talking about a little dust we are talking about a huge mess. I had to hire help to come help me clean it all up. Walls had to wiped down. Windows and all the coverings had to be cleaned. Every single slat of the wood shutters. Not to mention baseboards, bookcase filled with books, closets and all the belongings from the rooms that were out in the formal living room. Mattresses, bed frames, dressers, you name it. You stated they dusted. Dusted what? You stated they blew off the front porch area. Well they swept. I turned on our air compressor and used it on all the shoes from the entry area along with the wicker seating from the porch. The stained glass had to be cleaned the entry had to be washed down and cleaned. Now let's move on to mention the rug at the entry inside the house. We placed ronson paper on some of the rug and down the hallway to protect the flooring from the foot traffic. Well it wasn't enough as I didn't know I should have covered every square inch of anything exposed. The rug at the entry was so plastered in dust it had to be removed and cleaned. Now onto the comment about under layment. Again I telephoned you on the Saturday before the scheduled date of installation which was on a Tuesday. So that is 4 days prior to them starting. You told me they would bring the under layment, that it was no problem. Well they showed up without it. It said in your response it was handled and it was not. I asked and your husband called you and found out it wasn't communicated to him. Ok so no problem right. Well when I pushed for it I was told we really didn't need it. I am not going to stand there and argue when there are 4 grown men and only one of me. I view it like this, I am the customer, I am paying you, these things were discussed ahead of time and I shouldn't have to argue to get what should be done in the first place. So no Sarah it wasn't fixed. You said you did not know of any problems. Well I contacted the corporate office and I also completed a survey regarding the installation. I relayed everything. Since this company uses your company for the installation I felt they should contact you directly. After all that's where the payment went right? So if you didn't hear maybe you should talk to them. you have our number and if you want to resolve this you can contact us. read more

She was wonderful, working around my schedule. We had to reschedule because transition pieces weren't in, and she was GREAT about it. I will never hire Modern Design Flooring ever again. The owner Brian, is unethical, not trustworthy and lacks integrity. Brian does not listen to his customers and is argumentative. Brian is not a man of his word. If you don't want issues with your install/Installer I recommend using a different company. MDF installed my hardwood flooring in my living room on June 14, 2017. Brian and his wife Sarah came to my home to give me an estimate. At that time I showed him the recently installed floors in my kitchen which would be connecting to the living room floors. The kitchen floors had underlayment beneath them but it was not used around the edges. I told Brian if he were to install the living room floors that he would have to pull up the edges of the kitchen floor and put down underlayment so there would be a smooth transition from the kitchen to the living room. Brian became argumentative and insisted that was not necessary and said it is common not to use underlayment on the edges. He suggested not using underlayment in the living room. I told him specifically if he did not want to or couldn't do it that way I would find someone else who would. His wife Sarah gave him a look and he quickly changed his tone. He said when he comes to do the install he will see how the transition looks and if the edge of the kitchen floors in the walk through need to be pulled up and underlayment added then he will take care of it. He said he will make it work however it needs to be done. He guaranteed me I wouldn't notice a thing. When he came back to do the installation, as he was lining up the first row of boards where the walkthrough is so he could show me how it would look at the transition he physically placed himself in the center of the walkthrough. He showed me the edges of the walkthrough which weren't too bad so I would give him the ok. And I did. It turns out right where Brian had positioned himself is where the floor was really bad. There is a big bump right in the center of the walkthrough. It's in a spot where you are almost certain to step on it every time. If you stand at a distance you can visibly see it. The light hits those boards at a different angle from the rest and your eyes are drawn to it. It's not a minor issue it's a big deal. I paid top dollar for the wood. I paid top dollar for the installation. I used the installer recommended by lumber liquidators. The installer insisted that he would make it work. Then the installer hid the true condition of the transition. After Brian left his workers stayed to finish the job but he placed equipment in the way so I wouldn't notice until it was too late. I paid for the work. I called Brian back the next day to tell him it needed to be fixed. I have talked to him on the phone several times and sent text messages several times. He told me that I was being picky. He said that he knew there was something about me right away that I was too particular and that the floors didn't need underlayment and he was just humoring me to make me happy but if I needed to have it fixed he would make it right but has still not scheduled me. He kept giving me the run around. I have called lumber liquidators 3 times now and spoke with mike at the San Marcos store. He said that was not right and Brian would have to fix it. He said he would call Brian for me each time I talked to him but I never heard back from him either. In September I filed a complaint with the State Licensing Board. On 09/27/17 Brian called my cell phone and left a voicemail. He stated he received a letter from CSLB regarding a claim against him for not completing someone else's work. I responded back the next day. I stated yes I referred this to CSLB. It's been 15 weeks, if you don't want to repair the floors that is where we are. He responded back stating He was not sure what I am looking for. He does not warranty someone else's work. That I wanted to pay him to fix the kitchen floor that someone else installed and no repair was needed on the section he installed. He said he tried to schedule with me to do the repair and we never came to an agreement on a day. I responded back, telling him clearly you don't want to fix the problem so there is nothing more to discuss. That was the last time I spoke with Brian. This is not an issue about fixing someone else's work. Nor is it about not coming to an agreement on the day to do the repair. Brian left a big bump in my floor. Which I addressed with him prior to him doing any work. A big bump which he assured me would not be an issue and I would be completely satisfied after I told him if he didn't want to do the repair first I would find someone else to do it. It's in the middle of the opening between the kitchen and living room where people are guaranteed to step. At the exact spot where the existing floor meets the new floor of the same material. Then he hid the bump from me knowing that it was clearly an issue. He never had any intention of doing the necessary work to read more

Explained everything (there was more that had to be explained than I would have thought), asked how I wanted things done instead of just doing it the way he thought it should be done. The guys were on time for the installation and completely professional. They worked efficiently and creatively with my difficult property manager. Even when faced with challenges (no sawing in the front, keep the noise down, etc.) they didn't waiver. I would not waste my time doing business with this company. Extremely unprofessional and poor quality of work. When working on our floors, we were asked if the workers could stay a couple of extra hours to complete the job. One worker stayed past 11:30pm trying to complete the work and left a mess in our house. When we asked if the job could be completed to include cleaning the mess and cleaning the dust & debris, we were made to feel as though we were the problem. To make matters worse, about 30 days later our brand new flooring started to lift in several different places. We called to have this issue fixed and the owner thought he was texting his worker and called us disrespectful names!! This is no way to run a business or treat customers. It's obvious they do not value their clients in any way. You are better off just doing business with another company that values you and the money you spend. read more

I would NEVER refer this company to anyone, not even my worst enemy. I have floors that pinch my feet and I have had nothing but problems trying to get them fixed. They tell me that it is a product issue, even though a third party inspector said it was an installation issue. I went to the BBB to report this out of desperation to get my floors fixed and I was told by Sarah that I "went behind their backs and filed a complaint". From my understanding, that is what the BBB is for and I was also told that she would not do anything for me unless I rescinded the complaint (before the problem is fixed). I am stuck between two companies pointing fingers; but at least Lumber Liquidators tried to fix part of the problem and give me a store credit for the cost of some new product to get the issue fixed. This company just was unprofessional and is unable to take complaints from unhappy customers. read more

Over the seemingly endless remodel projects that we have done over the years, it is truly the exception that I can write a review about a contractor that I would recommend. We have a vacation home in a high rise condominium in the San Diego area. We decided to put bamboo flooring in due to it's high durability. We decided to use Lumber Liquidators because we thought that their vetting process of their installers would make the job go quicker and smoother. Boy did we made the right decision. Modern Design is a small company run by Sarah and Brian. Sarah does the bidding and Brian and his crew the installation. Sarah handled the paperwork required by the association, workers compensation certificate, etc. She also had excellent communication with us throughout the process. Brian and his crew were on-time showing up and completing the job. Anyone who has done a remodel job will know that this is the exception and not the rule. We could tell by watching them that they had done this many times before. Now, no construction job is without dust, but even with some grinding of some concrete to level the installation of the floor, the dust was far less than we have had with other construction jobs. They left the floor clean and nearly dust free. It is actually a pleasure to recommend them to anyone looking for a quality job to be done by true professionals. read more

Modern Design Flooring installed my kitchen and bathroom floor. The installation price included removing the toilet ($50), but the installer only needed to loosen it to place the new flooring. I asked for a refund of the $50 from the total bill ($1,672) and the project manger, Sarah, refused because she did not believe me when I told her what the installers did. She assumes that they cut around (scribe) the toilet for a charge of the same price. Even going to the BBB, had no effect in obtaining the $50 refund. Point: Check everything in writing and don't sign anything off that is not right or matches work performed. Make sure the workers wait until you've read the paperwork and inspected the final results. If you don't and they get the price quoted, even when they did less work, you'll never get a refund to match the work performed. read more

I worked with Brian and Sarah for the first time in 2011. They installed beautiful wood flooring throughout 2,500 sqft of my house. I'm super picky and usually drive people crazy with my meticulous critic of workmanship. But in 2011 instead of complaining, I was blown away. Perfect work, in a timely manner. In 2016 I called them back to put the same wood in a new room we created under our staircase. This job was less than usual. The door into the room is small and didn't allow for a T-molding at the junction to the old wood. After the install, I wasn't happy. I called the Sarah to say I was not at all satisfied with the quality of the workmanship. Shortly there after she sent Brian out to our house and he created a custom transitional piece to fix the problem. He went above and beyond what was necessary to make sure I was satisfied with the outcome. I'd give 6 stars if I could. read more
