I continued to come here because Sam is wonderful but I should have switched practices when they changed from Midgette to Modern Family. The front desk staff now is a revolving door. My recent visit was the last straw as I was met to pay my bill by the rudest young lady, including the women who sits in the middle who acts as though she is too good to answer simple insurance questions and couldn't bother to look away from her monitor other than to roll her eyes. I typically receive a bill in the mail AFTER my insurance is ran and the claim is filed but the person at the check out insisted I pay that day. At that time I also was notified that I was not in network, which was a shock to me because I was referred here by a coworker with the same insurance years ago. Which should have been disclosed because I would have declined. After speaking with my insurance provider I was informed the amount they had me pay in the office was incorrect as they did not even submit the claim before charging me and I over paid by $110, simply for the fact that they charged me an estimated amount prior to filing my insurance. I have been coming here for years and will not come back. If you are looking for a dental office I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

I ordered a dental retainer from this clinic two years ago. I paid $220, but after trying it on, the retainer was too loose and could not fit the shape of my teeth, so it had to be remade. Then I was out of the town half year, and I did not receive any notification from them to pick up the retainer. So I have not received it yet. I was a patient at Midgette Family Dentistry for over 20 years. Dr. Midgette and his staff were always kind, courteous, and fun. I actually looked forward to going to the dentist! Now that the business has changed hands to Modern Family Dentistry, I have not had positive experiences. I scheduled an appointment for replacement fillings. I then get an invoice to sign that says I pay $245 out of pocket. That is incorrect- so I cancelled the appointment. This morning the office calls me back to reschedule and I am told there will be no charge. Great. I make an appointment for tomorrow morning. I just received a text saying I will need to pay $207. I cancelled my appointment and am finding a new dentist. There are a select few at the office that are wonderful. And Missy was the heartbeat of the whole establishment. Sometimes change is good- but not in this case. You have lost a really great patient, even if I say so myself. I have a feeling you will be losing quite a few more. read more

This is the friendliest doctors office I have every encountered. Dr. Paxton is great about explaining everything she's doing and why you need the treatment she recommends. I was so nervous about having to have a crown removed from a root canal and redone. I was amazed how simple she made it. After years of an ugly crown from a former dentist, it is now beautiful!! I didn't have insurance, but the front office, Missy, helped me find a policy and it saved me hundreds of dollars... I can't say enough about this practice. I cannot stress this enough - I LOVE this place. I've only been to my one family dentist my whole life so when my boyfriend's job moved us across the country I was super nervous to go anywhere new. When I first moved to Virginia about 20 years ago, I first went to a strip-mall dentist that was okay for cleaning but with ageing crowns and old fillings, it was not so great. As of at as the dental care goes it can be 5 star depending on who you see. However as long as I was a patient there I never had the same hygienist even though a hygienist was requested. Then my dentist refused to see me without any sort of communication and it wound up costing me over $400 dollars to see a dentist who I had never met. It was an awkward situation and I would have appreciated a heads up. The dentist "of the day" did not check my mouth guard and proceeded to tell me that I had issues with the bottom part of my teeth that had never been addressed previously. Unfortunately, I was charged a ridiculous sum of money and then when I attempted to receive my records from Midgette, it took several times before they sent my records. I had to call at least twice and they assured me my records would be sent. Even then my new dentist still had not received my complete records. My problem is with the unprofessional way they handled a change in dentist and the fact that they charged me as much as possible. the hygienist I was supposed to see that day who I requested was suddenly unavailable even though I had called earlier that morning about COVID protocol. No one said hey, by the way you're dentist will be different. Even though I called beforehand. Nor was I told my hygienist would be different. All around extremely unprofessional from a group of people who had previously impressed me. Someone should have contacted me and told me I was being refused as a patient so I had an option to cancel my appointment. Especially since COVID protocols were different. However for the most part the office staff is decent. But I believe that the dentists are concerned about money and money only because no one informed me of the change in dentists. If I had known that the dentist I had trusted would no longer accept me as a patient I would have gone elsewhere, however I was not given that option. But they definitely collected over $400 on a shitty job well done. read more

Have been going to Dr. Midgette for over 16 years and he has done a wonderful job of restoring my teeth. I was never blessed with good teeth and poor dentistry by others caused me many major problems. Dr. Midgette developed a long term plan for my restoration and future care and now I have to say, I have one beautiful set of teeth. Their office has invested in great technology and continual training of the staff so they are really at the top of their game. I know this personally because they have used what they learned on me. Since I'm not currently working I had to find an office here for myself and kiddos. They have been nothing but great. Everyone is friendly from the front desk to the ladies at checkout. Dr midgette has been our family dentist for over 20yrs until recently when my wife and i where told that we needed refilling and where insured that insurance would cover it so we went a head and had it done . A couple of weeks later we got a bill for over $800 dollars when we asked about it they said it was are problem and we should get better dental insurance . I saw Dr. Paxton who was wonderful but the beauty was in Leigh Anne who was so gracious and accommodating. I was a new patient and had a lot of fear going in. When I got to the office, I was surprised by how friendly everyone was. They were so extremely thorough in answering my questions and concerns. I left feeling so much better about my teeth than I ever have. I also had a traumatic fall at a young age which knocked a tooth back and left it slightly darker over time and was never corrected and they gave me my options on getting that corrected as well as recommendations. I felt comfortable, I felt like they cared, and I really didn't mind having the scraping of my teeth and polishing done. Leigh Anne really took care of my teeth and helped correct a color issue but also took care of my insecurities with a smile. I will continue to go back for both Leigh Anne and Dr. Paxton. They're wonderful and the office is phenomenal. I walked out with a stereotypical dental billboard smile. Thank you! The only con I can think of would be that I wasn't sure if my insurance would cover the work I was having done. I showed up a half hour early and wasn't told about my insurance status until I was already in the chair getting work done. With that being said, my insurance company can be hard to get in touch with so I wasn't upset in any way but I tend to prefer knowing what I'll be paying before services are rendered. I don't think it was their fault so it's not something that will diminish their reputation in my eyes. read more

My initial negative review was "filtered", so it is not obvious. Quick summary: the office was not accurate/honest in what they told me regarding what insurance would cover. I had another adult with me who witnessed it, but they were more concerned with charging me than listening and considering they may have been incorrect or poorly explained. Buyer beware--they cost me hundreds of dollars, plus interest. If I had been dealt with honestly (I asked SPECIFIC questions and was given half-truths that they would, have known, but a novice like me would NOT have), I could have scheduled and paid in a sequence that would have worked well for me, the customer!!! read more

I've been seeing Dr Midgette and Cathy (hygienist) for years. Everyone in this practice always makes you feel so comfortable. They have the latest and greatest technology so I know I'm always getting the best care. They even have their own onsite lab so, when you need a crown, you get the permanent one right away...no getting a temp and then having to come back for the permanent one. They accept my insurance and always provide an accurate estimate before any treatment is agreed to.
