My review hasn't changed about your corner diner. I didn't post right after I was there. I tend not to be glued to yelp as much as You are. I dont know what you mean by using the yelp app number? After checking your info, You have the same number on yelp and Google maps. I didn't call you. I've known about your diner for years but most of the time went to stellas diner or Ann Sathers where its Much better atmosphere and food quality. Yes, I did mention that your food tasted like it was out of a can, although I dont know what you mean by the meat that was "taken out " The reason Ininnitially gave youn2 stars was because I liked the pancakes and the eggs were okay. Your hash browns tasted very bad. Your place Is what it is but your attitude and disregard for hygiene doesn't help it. Your desperation to write how I have many bad reviews to justify me being Too much of a critic and you having a Good diner might give you some satisfaction, But Doesn't give anyone a red light to continue to write bad reviews as its clearly shown. Ate here for some lunch at 10:30am when all the other restaurants in Boystown weren't open until 11. Has that homely look to the inside, reminded me of the old movie Batteries Not Included! I ordered a Gyro and soda and bill came up to $6&some change...good deal. I didn't want the fries, just something good and not too much. The meat was cooked well on the outside and juicy in the middle. The zhatziki sauce was great and the dude cut up the onion fresh in front of me! I always love a place with Coca-Cola products and especially happy to have CokeZero. The server and her husband the cook made good conversation (I was the only one in there at the time). While this might not be a top choice in the general area once the other restaurants are up and poppin', I have nothing negative to say about this one. read more

This place is pretty much a truck stop. The food isn't very good, the service isn't very good, and most of all the hygiene isn't very good. Chances are you've walked by this little hole in the wall several times and paid it no mind. My advice is to continue doing that. read more

Worst service possible!!! We were looking for some pie and coffee, but noticed that they had banana splits on the menu. We were just talking about banana splits so we decided to order 2. We asked the only person working there, not sure what her name is, if we could have 2 banana splits. She gave us the weirdest look and grabbed the 2 most ripped bananas in the bunch. We said "thanks but we have to go". She threw a pan she had in her hands intentionally and said have a great day in a condescending voice. I said "wow was that necessary?" She said "wow" in the same condescending voice. Mind you there were 2 other customers there who didn't even seem surprised. If I wanted my server to have an attitude I would have gone to Ed Debevics! Absolutely awful. Did delivery so the dine in experience might be different but I doubt it. I ordered dry wheat toast and recieved buttered white toast, really set the pace for the meal. Omelette was bland, hash browns were somehow worse. The only positive was all of the silverware we own was dirty and they gave us one silverware package. read more

Really 4.5 stars. They only lose half a star for not being open later! Pretty much the cheapest place to eat in Lakeview in relation to food quality. The portions are large. I've only ever had breakfast or a chicken sandwich, but they have the best veggie omelette EVER. And my sandwich was around $4.50 and almost twice as big as a Subway sandwich. All the veggies are fresh cut and the meat grilled in front of you. Special customer service as well. Everyone is very polite and if you come in enough they learn your name. I have been going here since I moved to Chicago several years ago. Always consistently good food. The service is always friendly too. Some people give this place bad marks for the the cooks yelling at each other and it being kinda gross. No argument but thats what gives this place it charm.. Its a greasy Chicago diner! I'm not exactly sure why it's called modern grill bc it seems just a little outdated and somewhat dingy. The food (although large in portions) is rather bland and nothing to get excited about. The hospitality of the staff however is very excellent though. Very very friendly and they tend to your every need and ensure you never have a empty cup. read more

Went here for the first time the other day. This is a pretty small place that has more of the old man with a newspaper feel to it. I was very surprised, however. The service was very fast and friendly. The food came out in no time - everything is cooked right in front of you on their big oven. I was starving so I had a grilled cheese and a greek omelette. Grilled cheese was good and did the trick - probably would be a great thing for kids to have. The Greek Omelette was awesome. It was huge and had a ton of good meat in it. I love this place for two reasons. First, you feel like part of a family when you eat here. This is a family business full of employees that genuinely care about their business and they want to take care of you. Being from Wyoming originally, I think it is very hard to find a genuine family feel, but the Modern Grill has exactly that. It makes me feel like I am at home. Second, the food is always exactly what I want. Their veggie omelets have so many vegetables that it is hard to understand how they all fit in one omelet, and their french toast tastes exactly like my mom's. Ooooh boy. You definitely need an update on this place. I'm going to make this short and sweet. I will preface this by saying I've had them recently. I was introduced to them by a co worker who ordered us lunch. I ordered the Reuben and it was fantastic. Let's fast forward a few weeks, my gf and I decided to give it a shot. Once we walked in the place it smelled like dead, spoiled flesh and the longer I stayed in there the more queasy I got. I've been in some weird smelling places but rotting flesh has never crossed my nostrils and the more I thought about how it smelled, I also thought about the food and we walked out. Most of the posts I've seen here are positive, maybe there's been a change in management since some of these posts are from last year. I've been to some places where it smelled weird on the outside, especially if the restaurant is near an alley with trash dumpsters, Not the INSIDE, it should smell like food or food cooking. read more
