Don't get me wrong! The haircut was great! It was exactly what I wanted. My hair is curly and can lose its shape often but the stylist hit the mark. The stylist, however, had to straighten my hair in order to cut it. And this is due to having textured curly hair; I think I was even charged extra than a regular cut, to be honest. It happens often to me so I guess it isn't that bad but at the end of my visit, I was stunned I paid so much. Despite my hair looking great, I would not come back here due to the stylist making me feel uncomfortable. She kept on making comments about my hair, and how it's boring because I don't have color. Then made comments about how it looks better straight (validating my curly hair insecurities) and the final straw for me was her asking me why I don't have kids. I get it, small talk is necessary sometimes but honestly, this felt like I was defending myself, my hair, and my lack of kids-which I tried to explain was not by choice to kind of give her a hint. The stylist did a great job but not my kind of environment. I look forward to one day finding a location that is experienced with curly hair. read more

I have a very long black thick hair that requires patience and sensitive handling. My friend referred me to this place - it's around a worn out area but the place is clean. Owner is very friendly, called when they opened but no one picked up. She did call me back though, and was available for me to come in right away. They have plenty of parking here, so you don't have to worry. They also cut men's hair. The salon is nice and clean, 5 chairs, 2 washing station, 2 pedicure chairs and a manicure table which I think hasn't been used for some time now. It has random things on it and I don't see any nail polishes around. I got full high lights, toned it, and trimmed my hair. Roughly cost around $140. Fair price. When I got there at 11, she started me right away, around 12:30, she got a little busy by herself and took on 3 customers while I still waited for my hair to be processed. When she finally finished them she got back to me at 2pm, washed my hair and gave me my haircut. I didn't leave until 3pm. The highlights is really nice, she takes her time and is really good at what she does. I'm just a little bummed that my hair is darker than I would like. I have to say though, my hair looks a lot healthier. I would come back, and try to get my light hair back. Enjoy! read more

My father and i have been coming to modern hair for YEARS for my haircuts which have always been good so i trusted this salon for a different service ( HORRIBLE MISTAKE). i recently was looking into perms because i have natural curly hair and wanted to fix my curl pattern. i came into modern hair and ann ( the owner) said she would do the curly perm but the ONLY issue would be my hair being dry which i was okay with because that could be fixed down the line. After ann and her aunt proceeding with putting the curling rods and solution in my hair they both checked my hair multiple times after the fact of the solution already being in they could see my hair was becoming gummy , stringy and elasticy and still left the rods in. after they took them out and rinsed out my hair she dried my hair and instantly my whole facial expression and mood changed my hair looked horrible. all curls were gone my hair was flat and almost dread like. my hair stretches like a rubber band and is EXTREMELY dry , fragile , and not curly at all. i paid for the service and later asked for a refund which was denied. i will no longer be going to the salon and i recommend all to stay away from this salon as well! I will always appreciate a hairstylist who gives me advice. The worst thing is when they agree with you even though they know better. Heeelpppp me from looking hurt, especially if I'm paying $25 for a trim. I wanted to go shoulder length but she said I should go past my shoulder by a little bit instead because of my hair type (curly/wavy). And she thinned my hair out to keep it from looking hella big hahah. I came out feeling BRAND NEW. I loved the length of my hair and I like that she asked if I wanted my hair straightened after. Even though she opened up the shop late (15 minutes), she was quick to finish up two gentlemen before me.
