Erick only confirmed my suspicions that HughesNet could not support port forwarding on the Gen5 system which then confirmed our decision on switching ISP services away from HughesNet. While we were not successful in bypassing the problems with Hughes: it became clear that Erick is an above and beyond resource to getting problems solved and added knowledge and experience that I lacked. We just purchased a home and I needed a "Nest Hello" smart doorbell installed, but when I removed the existing doorbell, I realized it was an old battery-powered doorbell so I couldnt do this myself. I did some Google'ing and learned that I needed a low voltage wiring installed, which went way over my head plus it made me nervous because that meant cutting holes into my drywall. So I searched on Yelp for "low voltage electrician" and found Modern Home Installation... they had a 5 star rating plus a high enough review count to make it statistically significant, so I gave them a call... I spoke with Erick and he gave me a rough estimate over the phone (hourly rate, 1 hour minimum) and had a guy at my house the very next day. His worker showed up right on time and worked very efficiently. The job took a little longer than originally expected (the house we purchased was built in the 1930's so it required some custom parts so they had to go back to the store to get the right parts), but he still charged me for the 1 hour anyway! Plus they found a power source nearby so there was only 1 hole cut into the drywall which was then patched up right after and I had leftover paint so i did a simple touch-up and it's now all completed. I'm very happy with the service. If i had to do it again, I'd for sure hire them. read more

I have talked with Erick from Modern Home Improvements a couple of times, and from one of those he had offered his expertise in a few areas that we will be happy to explore down the road. He also offered his time one weekend, a time when he could have had much more of a familial enrichment served up to his family, and the gesture was heartwarming to say the least!! He spent a greater amount of that Saturday with a friend of mine and although they were not able to accomplish much through no fault of his (Erick), but because of the incompetence of the so called senior business tech that was Hughesnet's support guru at that particular time!! He was merely no more but that of a ground level residential tech that had absolutely NO IDEA of what was being presented or served up to him by Erick and my friend of whom between them made for quite a formidable team; To which and eventually this tech caved and fessed up that he had NO IDEA OF WHICH they were talking about and that he was no more than an entry level residential tech!! These guys are super efficient. Needed an emergency mounting done this week due to time constraints, and wrote a message later in the day expecting an answer in the morning. The owner responded the same night! We were able to discuss and make an appointment right over yelp and just wrapped up the installation. My 5 stars mainly go out to the prompt response and quality of work, but the whole service was worthy of more! It was a quick, clean, and efficient mounting and the technician even cleaned up after himself all the dust and drywall that left a mess. I just had a beer in the process. Omg, the best service ever! We recently moved and bought a washer and dryer but learned that the appliance wasn't compatible with the building due to electric vs. gas. Our new home has high 18-foot ceilings, and the previous owner had chandeliers and ceiling lights that weren't.. quite our taste. We couldn't wait to get them replaced. (more on that below) I am a new homeowner and I needed an electrician to upgrade an outdated subpanel, add power to install an electric dryer, and repair some minor electrical problems per our home inspector. Danny was the first electrician I called. He returned my phone call within minutes and we scheduled an estimate right away for the following day. He arrived within the time window. I handed him a copy of the inspection report and explained to him the work I needed. The estimate was quick but thorough, and he sent me a quote within the hour. The quote was very competitive and extremely reasonable. I would have gone with South Coast Electric as I got a very good vibe from Danny. However, my closing costs for escrow were much more than I anticipated and I had to dip into my electricial budget to cover them. By far one of the best experiences I've had with a hired professional in a long time. As far as these things go, I am used to someone dropping in and doing the minimal amount of work as quickly as possible for the most money they can squeeze out of me, the customer. Not at all the case with South Coast Electrical. I was working with a tight budget and Daniel met me at my price. He didn't compromise on the work at all, which was a big fear going in. He estimated a fair time of three hours to install my track lights and was out of there within an hour and a half--that includes the clean up of the drywall debris that resulted from the installation. He is courteous and was able to provide estimates over the phone for the two separate jobs. During the first call a couple years back, we needed to completely rewire of our master bedroom. Not a small task and required two people. The work was complete fairly quickly, no mess, and at a reasonable price. The most recent job was a little less complicated and only required one electrician. We needed to rewire and mount a light fixture. We have had several electricians (via recommendations or Angie's List) come to our home to help us undo some crazy electrical situations that the former owner of our house did by himself. None of the past electricians have been to my liking...so we figured we would take a chance with someone that sounded skilled and reasonable on Craigslist. It turned out be the right choice, as Daniel is a great find. Daniel came out promptly, quickly diagnosed a problem in our front yard that no less than 3 electricians had overlooked and gave us a fair quote to fix the current problem and correct a potentially unsafe wiring situation that led to it. He returned later that day and completed the work -- after 2 years and 3 electricians, it seems like our front yard electrical problem is finally solved. I can't believe how helpful yelp is, I was moving and needed to disassemble and reassemble my crystal chandeliers to be wired and installed at the new place. South Coast responded right away and were able to send out their technician the same day. They did a great job and were very clean without leaving any mess. I later decided to add 4" recessed lights in my living room, a few dimmer swichs and some pendent lights. Next day they arrived on time and the job was completed by the end of the day.
