I remember when Modern Mouse opened up several years ago in Alameda's South Shore Center (then the Alameda Towne Centre). I loved coming in and browsing what new, crafty goods that had come in. Over the years, it's been wonderful seeing their shop flourish. They moved into a larger space across the walkway and they now have crafting workshops pretty often. I've yet to go to one of them, but would love to one of these days. You never know what new products they'll get in, from cute knitted hats to iPad cases that look like monster faces. Looking forward to coming back to see what new goodies they've stocked their shelves with! read more

I love thiss cute lil store, i think it my fav in south shore. I love all the offbeat clothes and accessories. They also have amazing handmade soap and perfume that smells soooo good. I love how everything is pretty much handmade that's why the store is expensive. Last time i came i bought some cute nerdy glasses and a stuffed animal that looked like a cute decoration 4 my room LOL and some soap,. The total was 50 dollars yikes ik. the products are great though.The employees are super nice and they always give out a free button aww how cute LOL!! One of the hidden gems of Southshore (sometimes you need to purchase a gift not sold at Bed Bath and Beyond, Kohl's, or TJ Maxx, the big stores in this shopping area). read more

Amazing items for sale!!!!! Love the local pride. Except for the girl at the cashier desk. She kept her concentration on the computer monitor and never once said hello or if we had any questions. And as we finished are window shopping she didn't even appear to say goodbye or thanks for stopping in. So I took it upon myself to say goodbye. Which she just looked at us and waved. Like WOW! This place is awesome! The people are super friendly and the place is filled with tons of unique gifts made by local artists. I have found soo many cute little hair clippies for my neice, its ridiculous, considering she doesn't have much hair. The pricing is adequate, considering this stuff can't be found at Target. It's a cute store with really cool merchandise. Today I found the cutest unicorn necklace for my niece. The woman at the register was helpful when I asked if I could take a picture of the necklace so I could get my sister's opinion on the necklace since there were so many other ones I thought my niece would also like. She also gift-wrapped my purchase for me. The only thing I noticed was that the person who paid before me was offered to be a part of their rewards program, but I wasn't. Not cool, Modern Mouse. Why have I taken this long to yelp this establishment?! This is a fabulous catchall store in the island city, replete with numerous crafty products and gift ideas. I love their jewelry (where else are you going to find a "hella" necklace??), cards, stationery, T-shirts, and household goods made by local, indie artists. They even have baby clothes. I never have a poor shopping experience here. Even just walking through is a delight. Join the electronic frequency club and amass points to receive shopping rewards. read more

Modern Mouse is pretty store. There is lots of artwork and little knick-nacks. Everything in the store is locally made. They sell some clothing, but its gear towards hipster/ bikers, but also pretty cool. If you are looking for gifts for a friend or want to have a cool decor, this is the place for it. read more

One of the best kept secrets in Alameda. And the staff is always to helpful.

I came here on the busiest shopping day of the year and they had at least 6 sales associates running around in the store helping customers- that is awesome! This little boutique isn't even that big yet they carry so many unique items. I ended up picking up four bars of beer soaps made from a local soap maker in Oakland and came back for more. They did complimentary gift wrapping which was pretty cool; didn't have to worry about wrapping at all!!!!! I recommend the locals to come support this cute boutique and please do support them!!!! read more

Love looking at the items in this little shop in Alameda! Almost everything there is handcrafted or original designs and super cute. If you've been here, it's a pretty small store, which is fine. My boyfriend and I did a little circle around the store today. Cute items, but the Customer service people were a bit rude. My boyfriend and I overheard a customer ask about the return policy and the CSR said "14 days," the people said something like "oh, we will think about it," and walked out. Then the 2 CSRs started laughing about the situation, which I don't think is a ridiculous question to ask. After they left, we were walking towards the door and the guy asked "can I hold your bag behind the counter, so you can have both hands free?" No, you can't. We were literally steps from the door and if you're concerned about us stealing, maybe you should just watch us, since there are 2 people working in your store and we are the only people there. We were maybe 5 steps from the door. It wasn't what he asked, but the bitchy attitude that came with it. So if you feel like having some people making bitchy comments to you or about you, this place is great. I will never come here again, but it had cute stuff. It's a shame. read more

What a wonderful place!! I was on the hunt for a very elusive tee-shirt for a xmas present; when I called to see if they had it they not only went and looked but they reviewed the sizes and colors with me just to make sure they had what I wanted before I made the trip out. When I got there I found not only the tee-shirts but also a few other great presents which they then took the time to wrap...for free! Amazing store and even better customer service! read more
