I've been going here for about 5 years. I've gone to other salons in the area, but I always end up going back to David. He has seen me at my nail-biting worst and always manages to give me a clean, crisp set every time, no matter how mangled my nails have looked over the years. This used to be my go to, but now they are awful. I walked in and asked if there was a wait and then sat for 30 min. I got a dip. Didn't even last a week. When I asked them to re-do it as no chip they wanted to charge me full price. I fought back. Got a no chip. Barely lasted a week. The polishes are all thinned out. In addition they re-use dip which is gross and unsanitary. My pedicure was so short and rushed. They also want to charge for everything. I found a polish that I liked and it was just a plain turquoise one and they wanted $4 more. Lastly, if you like babies and crying kids this place is for you, since that is what I encountered every time. Awful. read more

Great place! I've been coming here for about a year now. Living in Palatine it's convenient and fast. They have over three different no-chip brands including "Perfect Match", which is a duo hand and toes polish that match in color. They have over 7 pedicure seats, so they're never too busy. Walk-ins usually don't wait longer than 15 minutes. If you're looking for a really precise polish style, make sure you're clear with your esthetician before getting started. I tend to show her/him a picture on my iPhone of what I'm looking to get done. Jewels- I don't recommend you get any jewels or accessaries on the nails/toes since they don't have the most updated pieces. Deals & Discounts- Modern nails has better deals during the day. Stop by before noon for a better deal on a mani-pedi. Otherwise you're paying for a pretty expensive mani or pedi. I've walked out with a no-chip and reg pedi for the cost of $75 in the past. I guess the tech I had was new because it was obvious his nail filing technique is not as developed as it should be. As he was doing my pedicure, filing my nails down, he managed to make a smooth cut on my big toe. He kept filing as I was trying to pull my foot away from him, telling him he was hurting me. He tried to adjust the file but still he was making the cut deeper (all the while I'm trying to pull my foot away). I know he wasn't trying to do it on purpose, and it wasn't yet obvious at this point that a small cut had been made until after I left the salon. The pedicure had finally ended and on he went to my shellac manicure, which took him forever to do, but it turned out good and I loved the color. Unfortunately a few days later, I experienced chipping on my thumbnail. No good! The total was $55, no tip. I was told it's a combo package although initially my sister and I were told there was no such thing. Side note. My sister does not have Yelp and thought I should share her experience. Previously, she had a pedicure and a few days later turned out with a toe infection. Puss and all. Just be aware if you decide to go here. read more

So I recently moved to palatine and needed a new nail salon. Based on yelp reviews I decided to go with this place. I have been getting my nails done for over 15 years and have been to a lot of places. This is definitely one of the good ones. Its got the good massage chairs. They are all new and nice. They have tons of color choices. And all the top brands not just opi or shallac. They have all the no chip brands and lots of matching options for toes. I had my pedicure done by whoever was available and I'm fortunately I don't know her name but it was terrible she didn't awful job she didn't remove any of the rough spots on my feet and she got nail polish all over my toes I had to have the owner redo them but he did so graciously and took $5 off. They have lots of options and fair prices. My no chip mani and reg pedi was $60. Will definitely be back. read more

Hands down, the best place I've ever had a pedicure. They have a long, interesting menu of different types of pedicures! I popped in to just get a regular pedicure, and I was surprised at the amount of care they took even though I wasn't getting anything fancy. Both calves were massaged (felt great!) and the lady I had was a perfectionist, which I personally love because I get annoyed if it is sloppy. I felt like I had paid much more than what I had, and I've been to many places that were much more expensive. The only thing I didn't like about the experience was a woman came in who was clearly a regular, and she brought her dog. The dog sat in a massage chair. Not cool, lady. I have been applying acrylics for 20+ years. When my normal tech was out due to COVID I popped in here. I had NO idea what a mistake that would be! The service was so rushed! The tech did not follow fill steps and trapped old nail polish under the new acrylic. It was obvious they were rushed and it became clear why when another party came in mid service. no wonder they insisted on doing my hands and feet at the same time because they were overbooked and didn't manage their time well. Both techs went at my nails like they were killing snakes with a straw, unnecessarily rough and SO fast. Not one of my nails is the same shape or length as the others. They're all sharp and rough, barely buffed. I now have to pay twice to get this fixed somewhere else. I will not visit this salon again and don't recommend it. read more

I had a dipped manicure a week ago. It was horrible. Even though I told her NOT to use UV light she insisted it would be better. That the farthest thing from the truth. I've had 2 nails break and 3 more are chipping. I've had same dipped manicure many times at better places that last 3-4 weeks. Very expensive. The salon is not clean---dust everywhere. I can out with dust all over my pants. I had to ask to have sterilized tools. Do not go to modern nails. I wish there was a rating lower than one star--even that is generous. read more

In 4 years this is the only time that I have not gotten my no chip from my regular place which is a huge spa. I will try not to compare the two because my usual place is a big spa and this is a small little shop. I went in during my lunch break and lucky for me there was no wait. I was taken right away, I was seated in one of the first stations and a gentleman did my mani. I had a no chip on and he removed it, I didn't appreciate that he buffed off with the little drill machine first, he then saturated the cotton and placed foil on my nails. After a few minutes the cotton came off and he scraped the old no chip with his nail, I'm used to my tech using an orange wood stick. He took out his implements out of a pouch that goes into the sanitizing autoclave. However, the pouch didn't seem to had been sealed since the strip on the pouch that comes off when you deal it was still attached. So I'm not sure how clean his tools were, yikes. He filed my nails, trimmed my cuticles and soaked my hands in a bowl of water. I can't complain about the filing or polishing and the guy was nice. My complaints are about not knowing how clean they are. Price was $30 for a no chip and you can't tip on the card. read more

I have been to this place a few times. The last time I was there I asked for a fill in. The older guy that did my nails told me it was time for a new set. I wear an acrylic overlay. I told him next time I would get a full set just do a fill. To be quite honest I don't like the way they do full sets and wanted to go to my favorite nail place in the city. When the guy was almost done with my nails (polishing) he informs me that my service is $3 more than the listed price. When I asked him when did the price go up and says oh I had to spend extra time on your nails. Mind you none of my nails were broken or needed repair. I paid the $3 extra and didn't leave a tip which is unlike me. This place is a ripoff. I'll never go back. read more

I highly recommend her doing the anti-stress pedicure! the lady who did it last week to me was terrible I was very upset I paid extra for the upgraded pedicure and my no chip looked horrendous. Would never return here. Came in about a month ago for a no chip and pedi. After a week my no chip was peeling and cracking. This has never happened before. When I went to my old salon to get it fixed, it took 30 minutes to remove. The application was thick and poorly done. Not to mention for the first time in two years my nails tore like paper. I was appalled at their workmanship and poor quality or service. I also find it annoying that they don't let you tip on your card. I went across the street to target for cash back just to come back and provide a tip. This is too much to do in my opinion when everyone these days pays with a card. I just had the worst pedicure here. I'm a long time customer and this is the first time I had someone that did a terrible job. She was in a rush and did nothing to my heels. She then proceeded to walk by the manager and mouth the words "oh my God ". I'm guessing she was unaware that my daughter was getting her nails done by the manager.
