When you come in they ask you to pick a color. I picked out two not sure which and decided on one - pedicures usually $40. Technician asked for $47. I asked why and she said it was a "quick dry color and is $7 more". When I said she should have told me she replied "now you know for next time". She said the same thing to a person to my left when asked for something they weren't getting but wanted. It was too late 2 minutes into the pedi to change. She said "now you know for next time". There won't be a next time. Watch out. I've observed how they coddle their "regulars". Not new people. read more

There was bugs crawling on my shoes while I was getting a manicure, they reuse the pedicure shoes and do not throw them away. There was stuff hanging from the ceiling of the salon. They were very rude to me and was pushing a tip very hard. It also felt like I would get an infection from their tools because nothing was sanitized and it did not come out of a sanitized bag. read more

I was there on June 18th for a dip manicure and I couldn't have been more disappointed!! I have been getting dip manicures for years now every 2 weeks, and I was in the area so decided to give them a try. Called about 5:45pm and they told me to be there at 6pm. Usually takes me about 45min to an hour including removal this time it took more than an hour and a half. At the beginning everything was great until she started applying the color powder. On some nails it's super close to my cuticle while in others it's like an inch away from my cuticle, not to mention NOT STRAIGHT AT ALL. She applied excessive amount of glue while applying the tips and somehow I have already lost 4 nails in not even a week.. The shape is not the same in all nails. It's just the messiest dip manicure I have ever gotten and also the most expensive. Overpriced dip manicure for $50 plus tip. Will never be back. read more

If I only I knew about this place earlier!!! Everyone in this salon is super friendly and they have a great attention to detail. I have been getting french manicures done for years and sometimes even do them myself because I'm very particular about how they're done. This salon hands down gave me the BEST french manicure ever. Also, they put you in a massage chair for the pedi and did a phenominal job. Super smooth feet. I got married recently and had made appointments at a much more expensive chain salon for me and my mom to get our nails done before the wedding. After visiting Shalom prior to the wedding I instantly cancelled my appointments and rescheduled them at Shalom. My wedding was on a Sunday followed by my honeymoon. The mani pedi lasted through the entire wedding weekend and honeymoon. We're talking 2 weeks here. Now if that's not a great mani pedi I don't know what is. LOVED IT. this is my third time there so I was half expecting things to be different. Usually when I start a salon it is pretty good-if I come in on a special it seems the service is not the same as if you are paying the usual price-so it's time to find another salon. Shalom Nail did not fit the same ole same ole. I went in for their Monday-Wednesday special and was not disappointed. Clean, polite and fast. Walk-ins welcome. My first time was great-second time great-and today, the third time still great. I have had three different technicians and all were wonderful. After having so many bad experiences with Asian salons ( dirty facilities, rude technicians and owners and just a lack of an experience), I was skeptical with this place, but reading so many positive reviews, I had to go see it for myself and wow was i surprised. From the first second you walk in the door, you feel a very positive vibe, everyone is super nice and not fake nice, but truly happy to see you and serve you. I had a wonderful lady who did my nails and was very patient while I explained to her what I want done (i like to experiment with my nails: colors/patterns etc.) Just a great place AND they do buy 10 manicures and get 11th free, so I'm a loyal fan and will be coming back read more

My mom ONLY goes to Shalom for her mani/pedi's. I can't remember ever going there before, I tried once, and they couldn't take me without an appointment in the middle of the day, so I went elsewhere. My mom ONLY goes here because Monday-Wednesday they have a mani/pedi deal. Unfortunately, we went on a Thursday and paid full price ($38) Upsides: -I'm on day 7 and things are holding up nicely. A few small chips, and mostly wear around the tips of my nails, because I clack along on a keyboard all day at the office. -Clean facility. Friendly but not overbearing staff. A good selection of colors (they have OPI no-chip here as well as shellac.) Things I was confused about: -My massage chair during the pedicure. All of the buttons were worn down and I couldn't figure out how to change the setting/turn it off. -When I called the day ahead for 2 appointments at 5:30, I was told we had to come at 5:15 because they were booked the rest of the night. We got there at 5:15, but the next appointments didn't come in until at least 6:15. There were two technicians without customers. We definitely could've come at 5:30. Things I downright didn't like: -My technician answered her cell phone in the middle of my nail service. TWICE. AND she MADE a phone call. Not cool. Not cool at all. -The whole appointment thing. Seriously, they were not busy, and we could've come in 15 minutes later. In a nutshell: I'll go back, but only on a Monday-Wednesday to take advantage of the special, and only when I know I'll be needing an appointment and can make one in advance. If I need/want a manicure on the fly, this probably won't be my go-to place. They seem to rely heavily on appointments only, and don't really want the walk-in business. read more

I was dying for a pedicure because I'm pregnant and can't reach my toes :( I decided this in the morning and wanted it done that day, so I wanted a place where I could just walk-in. Due to the stellar reviews, I opted for Shalom Nail Salon. I did call on my way (about 10 minutes before I got there) and they were ready for me, which was nice. This place was hard to find based on my GoogleMaps search. I thought it was between Buffalo Grove Rd. and Arlington Heights Rd., but I was wrong. It's in the stripmall on the corner of Dundee and Arlington Heights Rd....close to the Bank of America and on the opposite end as that tux place. Anyway, I found it and was happy to relax for a bit. My massage chair seems to have been broken as no matter which button I pressed (all the buttons were cracked or falling off, btw), the chair did the same thing. It was a hard, rolling massage, which was awesome at first, but I had to make it stop because it got annoying when the force of the rolling physically moved my body forward every 30 seconds. The pedicure itself was good. Pretty standard. The best part is the warm towel they put on your legs and massage you get at the end. As far as decor and music -- just close your eyes and forget about it. The music was a random mix of opera and 90s "easy listening." The decor was OK...but I felt like I walked into a time warp. The pedicure itself was done well and has lasted so far. The tools were clean and you could see where they were sanitized. So I can't complain for a $25 pedicure done by a super nice nail tech (they were all really nice and friendly). It won't be my regular nail place, but I'll definitely go back when I don't have time to make an appointment. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! After a few bad experiences at other local salons after moving here, I tried this place out based on reviews. Wow! They seem to only have one woman on staff who does acrylics (what I have), but she does them so well I don't mind making an appointment. I've even gone a week with no nails (a very rare sight for me!) just so I could see Sarah for my full set! I am very picky about my nails, and she always does an incredible job. The shape and length are perfect! All the women are very sweet, and it only took a few appointments for them to know me by name and know what I like. To address some of the other reviews about "rudeness", they have at times been very blunt with me about my nail care. Personally, I view it as professional advice (they are licensed professionals, after all), and am thankful for it! But I can see how others might be offended. And yes, you should make an appointment. They're in a busy area and are sometimes booked. I often just call the day before and it's no problem. Also, to the issues with sanitation- I am a licensed esthetician and I have seen no issues. We are trained and tested on many of the same sanitation and sterilization protocols. Don't make assumptions based on what you think is happening, a lot happens behind the scenes/between appointments. And more often than not, people just don't know what to look for! I have been to this salon many times and everything is in line with board standards and regulations. Please give this place a try! They are meticulous, professional, and very kind. read more

I am new to the area and was looking for a nail salon for a no chip manicure and a pedicure for my wedding this weekend. Shalom was close by so I made an appointment and was not disappointed at all! Hannah was my tech and did both my mani and pedi ( which I also loved by the way! ) and she was fantastic! Having been at the beginning of spring by feet needed some TLC and she certainly provided. Cheap mani + pedis ..and they go above and beyond their call of duty..(sounds like some line from a movie..? hmmm. haha) A legit back massage while getting your nails dried is one of the many lovely little things they do for their customers. The manicurists are very friendly and make a point of remembering your name which is a nice touch. As far as the manicure, they do a really nice job and the manicure lasts for a full week. This place is fantastic! I went here after reading the reviews and wasn't disappointed. The pedicures are great. They take their time and hve a strong attenton to detail. The manicures are the same. Last a long time and they are very detailed. I've been getting french manicures here and they are, by far, the best I have ever gotten. A lot of places seem to be stingy in the polis when it comes to french manicures but not here. They do a base coat, a coat of a light pink, then white tip (twice so its sold white) then a light pink over it and a top coat. They take extra time with the hand massage (legs too for pedicures) and give you a shoulder massage while your nails dry. They don't rush you out the door and everyone is friendly and attentive. read more

I really had high hopes for this place. Coming in it was very nice and the atmosphere was great. The staff seemed nice too. The one woman nicki is very very nice. As for the service I did not have a good experience at all. I had an older woman do my nails. Not only was she rude, but she took forever. I get full set acrylics done all of the time and it's usually takes 30-45 minutes total. This lady took an hour and a half before she even put the polish on. Not to mention her filing was the most painful thing ever and my cuticles were bleeding. Another bad thing about the manicure is that either the tips they used or the acrylic powder/solution was expired. My nails started cracking and breaking immediately. I went in to another salon three days later and had them fix and cut them down to help them be stronger, and they still ended up just all breaking off within two more days. They were poor quality. The person who did my nails at the other salon even commented about how badly a job the woman did and how poor the quality was of the nails. Last, but not least was the pricing at shalom. It seems most of their services are a normal or average price, but a full set starts at $40. Normally it's around 23-30 tops. For it being that awful quality I was very upset. What's not to like? For a decent mani/pedi for $35, it's a good place. As other reviewers mentioned, the "soundtrack" that they play is a little odd - while I was there I heard Taylor Swift, something New Age-y (you know what I mean), and some sort of opera or something. It was weird, but I wasn't there to jam, I was there to get my nails done. The manicure was very good, but she was super serious about my cuticles to the point where she made me bleed a little and there was no exfoliating scrub applied to my hands, which I've had everywhere else I've gotten my nails done around here. The pedi was also good, but she clipped my toenails a little too short and my toes look a little stubby because of it, but they'll grow back and the next time I go I'll ask her not to cut them so short. My family usually goes here to get their nails done because it is close to our home. I personally rarely get pedicures as I prefer to do them myself and save time/money. I want here for my sisters birthday with my mother and we all left disappointed. According to my mom they usually give minor back massages and rub your legs for a pedicure. Instead we were practically rushed out of our seats because a mother and a daughter came in and they wanted to get as much business as possible instead of caring about quality over quantity. Because of this we received rushed pedicures and none of the additional services (like a leg massage) that they normally perform and is standard. I also found out the way my nail was cut caused a bad ingrown toenail on both my feet. This is why I just choose to do my nails myself. read more

This salon is as good as it gets. The only thing greater would be to get a to cup of hot great tea to drink while you get your pedicure. The salon has been redesigned with all new decor and pedicure chairs. The girls are all very professional and so friendly. They have sweet uniform aprons and seem never to bring the woes of the outside world into work with them. I have written reviews about Shalom before, and they were wonderful even before the renovation. Stop by a few times and they know your name next time you come in. Hot towels on legs and hands, and a wonderful back massage while your toes and fingers are drying. Great relaxing music always playing too. I used to find coupons in the local paper, but they are quite established and I have not seen them, and I keep forgetting to ask if they are circulating in papers or not. I did not have a pleasant experience here. The women who did my nails made me feel very uncomfortable. She acted as if my hands and feet were the worst she had ever seen and that she was very annoyed that she had to fix them. Although, it had been over a month, I do get regular mani/pedis so I am not sure why she was behaving this way. Mani pedi was $42. (much more than my usual place) I paid $2 extra for Vinylux ( suppose to last a week) and it started chipping two days later. My young daughter got her nails done too ($20) and the paint on her finger nails started coming off the next day. For us, it was a waste of time and money to go here. Even if the mani/pedis had turned out great, I would not go back here just because of the way the nail tech made me feel. I chose this place for convenience sake. I will go out of my way to make it to my regular salon from now on. read more

Have been going here for about 4 years and within the last 6 months it has gone down hill. The staff seems nice but quickly turns rude when you don't jump at their commands. The new people are not well trained and they do a sloppy job. My daughter went with me and they ended up cutting her toe open. Blood was all throughout the tub. They did not clean the tub very well afterwards so that was a big red flag!!!! The prices are ok but you now are getting sub-par service. I hate to leave a bad review but this place has become a toilet bowl. So now the quest to find a new, clean, friendly, professional place that can do toes well!!! read more
