I absolutely love this place. The salon is great, I been a regular since I had my wedding here. I go every two weeks, and haven't had a problem ever. The other nail salons in the area have such strong odor I can't bear it! They also have gift certificates so just in case I don't have cash right away I can always pay with my gift certificate. This nail salon completely lied to my friend. I went with her and she wanted the acrylic nail full set which is $26. When they were finished she sent us to wash her hands and when we came back the lady was gone and just left the bill on the table. Her name was Katey and the bill said it was $45. In the beginning she told her to pick a shape so she chose coffin not infroming us that it wasn't $10 extra dollars and then told her to choose a color. And when she did she did a gel on her without infroming it would also be $10 dollars extra. She just instructed my friend to put her hands under the light not even saying it wasn't gel. Not to mention she did a poor job because her nails were crooked. Do. Not. Go. To. This. Salon. They will take advantage of you. read more

I decided to treat myself to a deluxe pedicure costing 42.00. The regular pedi is 26.00. The deluxe included a longer foot massage, callous removal and a soothing cool gel applied to the legs and feet. The woman who did my pedicure could not have cared less about the quality of the job she did. She asked me as soon as I sat in the chair if I was paying cash. I noticed that there was a sign taped to every work station that tips were to be given in cash only! She did a poor job of giving me even a basic pedicure with nothing extra other than the fact that she wasn't interested in doing the job at all! I was not happy and should have said something at the time but didn't. I am just too nice sometimes. I have been going here for about 5 years or more, since Leon owned the place. Leon sold 3 years ago but I continued to go here for convenience. About a year and half ago I started getting pink and white finger nails. I had always been charged $50 for full set and $35 for a fill. Today they charged me $60 for a fill. When I questioned it Kelly said that 'no', they have never been $50 or $35. I went on my Bank of America records and confirmed I had only been paying $35 or $50 in the past. I went to Modern Nails for the first time to get my eyebrows done, and a polish change on my hands and feet. Sounds simple enough, right? No. They started with my eyebrows, which I was the most excited about. She didn't take me into the back. Instead, she just sat me down in an upright chair at the front of the "salon." But, before she started, she ask me was I also getting my lip and chin waxed. Um.. NO!! I asked her why she said that, did they need to be waxed?, to which her reply was yes. Now, I will be the first to admit that my eyebrows were out of control and in desperate need of a wax job, but the hair on my face is not only blonde but thin and not very noticeable. So, she waxed my eyebrows... end of story. She literally just through some wax on and ripped it off. No going back and brushing or trimming or tweezing. It wasn't until after I left that I got to really look at my eyebrows. HORRIBLE! Not in the way that she waxed too much-- she hardly waxed anything. I don't know how it's possible, but they actually look worse than before. Sure, she got the outlying hairs which were of some concern, but she didn't get anything close to the actual brows. Now, I will have to basically go back and try to fix them myself (which if I could actually do well, I wouldn't be paying someone else to do for me in the first place). Next, it was on to my toes. Not impressive, but no major complaints. Finally, on to my hands. I will admit that my choice of nail polish is difficult to work with (black/red color). I just got my nails painted less than a week ago, and that lady did an awesome job. She wasn't a rare talent, so I figured if she could do it, then of course someone else could... Wrong. The color was all outside of where it should be. I actually had to stop the guy and ask him to fix it (as if it wasn't noticeable). After spending several meticulous minutes, he stopped and asked me if it was better. It wasn't. Still polish outside of the nail and on the skin, especially around the cuticle. I could have told him again to fix it, but after a certain point, it just becomes awkward and makes me feel like I am nit-picking. Besides, I really didn't have time to sit for another 30 minutes while he "fixed" them some more. My final complaint is that they tried to keep the nail polish that I had brought with me. They had all one brand of nail polish with the exception of about 8 bottles that were all hot pink colors. So, not only was my polish the wrong brand, but it's basically black. But, whatever, I got it back. No harm done. After this long and grueling review, I will say that this isn't the worst place that someone could go to get their nails etc. done (besides trying to upsell everything and the fact they clearly weren't interested in working, obviously many people liked it by reviews), but I will never waste my time or money here again. read more

They advertise that they abide by all State Board regulations.. and they might.. but only the minimum requirements if that (I haven't looked them up). I've been to other salons that advertise this and they actually do follow them. Modern Nails & Spa reuses pumice stones and nail files. Also I can always wear the gel nails for 2 sometimes even 3 weeks.. and my gel nails were completely off after 1 week. Yes -- no odor and they were nice.. but I've had much better results from other salons and I would not make the drive out to them again. read more

I have never posted a review as a consumer; however, I feel compelled to convey my experience. I have been a loyal customer of Modern Nails and Spa for over one year. Unfortunately, I am no longer. Recently I had a SNS manicure which in the past has lasted nearly 4 weeks; thus the most recent SNS manicure only lasted 1.5 weeks. When I made the appt to remediate this I explained that I expected a courtesy manicure as I paid over $50 for the original manicure. Well, courtesy was not the case...I was charged again for the SNS manicure. And, I was charged for a nail fungus product to clear up fungus that I contracted - I was told that I would be given the product at no cost as I have been a good customer and presumably I contracted the fungus at the salon. I have never, I repeat, never had a case of nail fungus in my life until this incident!! It is disturbing and disappointing that customer service no longer exists. I hope the next salon I choose will demonstrate courtesy to their loyal customers. read more

this place was bad, bad bad bad. i went in for a basic manicure and they do not soak your nails before they cut them which mine will just split if they are not soaked first. he said they do not have bowls there to soak. the way he shaped them was all wrong and messed up, took forever to paint them and that was even messed up in the end. worst paint job i have ever seen on my nails. then to top it off after he was done all he did as rinse off the utensils he used then use them on the next person.. I'm used to a new bag of clean sterilized tools. Not many polishes to pick from and he stood over my shoulder the whole times while i was trying to choose. i will never go back EVER. Save yourself the time and money and do not go here, i could not wait to get out. read more

i would give this negative stars if i could!! do not come here!! manicures are horrible and rushed! eye brow wax is sloppy and painful! owner leon got in my face and yelled at me to never come back when questioned about his credit card "fees" that they add to each service! my daughter told him he "better calm down and stop yelling at her mother"! when i was leaving, my card needed to be ran manually and he said "you pay with cash"! when i told him he either ran my card or he wasn't getting paid, he proceeded to call the police and tell them i refused to pay! when they got there, they simply told him to punch the numbers in the machine manually (which is what i said to do in the first place)! he wasted my time and the taxpayers money to have the police come there when he was just too stubborn to manually type in the credit card numbers! after spending $100, it was the worst experience i've ever had! he obviously doesn't need the business if he tells his patrons to "never come back"! he's crazy and his whole staff was mortified! go someplace else... horrible experience! read more

The worst customer service of any nail salon I have ever been to. My daughter and I went in 2 weeks ago and both had full sets of acrylic applied, with tips. We were originally impressed by Modern Nails and returned this Saturday for fills. My daughter had 2 nails that were lifting, she explained to Judy that the set had been applied at her salon only two weeks ago. Judy told her she needed all her tips removed and a new full set applied. Any other salon that I have been to stands behind their work if nails are not applied correctly they are fixed at no charge. When I asked if we were going to be charged for a full set, Judy began speaking to her co-worker and laughing. We couldn't understand them..... It was so blatantly obvious that they were speaking about us!! I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode! At this point she had already removed half of my daughters nails and I was almost done with my fill. We were forced to pay for a new set for my daughter.
