PLEASE READ I want to be specific when I give this one star it is for "Linda" she is the worst nail tech I've ever had. Where do I begin... she knicked my cuticles and held the drill down too long it and burned my nail, I flinched as every other person would as it is an instinctual reaction to pain. The first time this happen she said ok I'll drill really slow because you're sensitive and I said no, you burnt me it's not being sensitive" Then she knicks my cuticle and I went to check if it was bleeding and she had this look on her face she looked at her coworker as if I had just spat in her face. Then again she gets my cuticle and I jerk my hand out of reaction and I And she says verbatim "you are kind of baby" and I looked at her and said "excuse me?!?!" And she didn't say much after that. When I had picked my color she went and got a different color and said this one's prettier let's do this one. And I'm like uhhh ehh and she said ok you pick and I said I'll keep the dark one I picked out. At some point she got hot and put the fan in her face and being silly she put the fan in my face and then I smiled but then she pulled her shirt collar outward and put the fan angled down so the handheld fan was by her chin facing down. And then while I had my hands with acetone foils on all my fingers and with how fast she did it.. she grabbed my shirt in the chest area and put the fan to my chin to have air blown on my boobs. And I kinda froze up and was really quiet and I didn't say much after that. She kept trying to push a manicure on me I had to tell her no over and over and over that I only want a GELL manicure and as the session went on she told me I'm too sensitive and I shouldn't get GELL. And I said why? She said because I'm too sensitive and I look at her and say no. I like GELL. After another time she burned my nail with the drill she rolls her eyes and said do you want her to finish? (Le Ann) and I said you know what yes. I want her to finish. She was so so so damn rude. Absolutely Crossed boundaries. Tried to make me feel like I was doing something wrong. She also asked me if I'd been there before and if one of her coworkers had done my nails and I said yes everyone in this room (3 other people) has done my nails before I've been here forever. Not once have I been treated like that. She literally was calling me names while expecting me to pay her? Like It's her job, not mine. So if you wanna be borderline assaulted, talked down to, told that your color is ugly, and be treated like you're the biggest inconvenience on plant earth, you'd like it here. Linda is the worst nail tech I have ever encountered in my fucking life. Oh! She also told me to stop watching as I was looking at her do my nails. I was watching a YouTube video and I would glance back-and-forth, but she literally said stop watching her do my nails. I encourage you to go to other nail salons. Or if you do stay here. Do not give Linda your money!!! read more

I got a terrible manicure. My nails were all shaped differently, the gel polish was all over my cuticles, my nails were filed down so thin I had to get acrylic because they were so brittle and they couldn't even do the simple design I asked for . They were so bad I went somewhere else to get them redone. My husband believes I deserve a refund because it was a total hack job. Definitely won't be back. The manicures are cheap but you get what you pay for. read more

First time here and was very pleased! We had very kind, sweet ladies do our nails! They took their time, made small talk and were wonderful! Price for one (my gel French mani was only $40) which I thought WOW! Used to more expensive, so pricing was a plus!!! We went at a fairly quiet/not crazy busy time of day on a Tuesday afternoon! Go figure every nail shop in The valley right now are booked solid thanks to The state opening them back up. I called around all over Glendale and Modern nails was the only place in the area that actually had openings. So here I am getting my mother's day pedi. Ok so yes they are cleaning and they tell you in detail they are cleaning. It's appointment only and YOU MUST WEAR A MASK!!!! Only down side I wish the massage was longer but whatever I'm Grateful that nail shops are open and the state is starting to open back up. read more

I've been coming to this nail salon for 8 years now and I'm always happy with the way my nails turn out. Michael and Leanne are the best humans ever. Always happy and we're always laughing in here, making the experience so awesome. I always come in here with some crazy nail design and they always accommodate me. Danny usually fills my nails, but on occasion Michael does them. I love my pedicures and the massage I get. I've been known to fall Asleep during my pedicure because I'm so relaxed. They have many options for pedicures but I always get the lavender treatment to zen me out. I know walk-ins are always welcome, but I do recommend making an appointment especially over the weekend or during a busy holiday season. You really won't be disappointed! read more

Michael and his staff are phenomenal! I got a full set with dip polish and I highly recommend the dip polish as opposed to acrylic with gel. It's lighter in weight and the color is much more rich. Michael is hilarious and quick, he doesn't rush the job but he is great at what he does making my experience go by much more quickly than it has at other salons. He also did not complain about my request for multiple colors and he made sure after every step that my nails were turning out the way I expected. First of all, my husband is an elite member of Yelp and he is going to be sad when he finds out that my first review written was about a nail salon but I promise I will try to write more reviews on restaurants in the near future! I am not one of the girls that gets her nails done every week but I really enjoy treating myself now and then. This salon is right next to the gym I go to and I figured I would give it and try (the shopping center isn't the mostly aesthetically pleasing). I am sure glad I did!!! Michael is the owner of this salon and he is extremely friendly and welcoming. My first visit there was after I got done working out, he immediately greeted me and asked if I wanted a cold bottled water. WHAT?!!! I was shocked, excited, and gladly said yes I love some! :(How is that for some customer service!) :) Micheal's staff is also wonderful and pamper you generously. My gel manicure was awesome and lasted over three weeks. They $20 (or $18 I don't remember exactly) for a gel manicure!! Most salons charge $30, quite the savings. Also, they don't charge $5 extra for french manicure. The $20 manicure included a paraffin wax (again on heard of in the salon world!) The only tiny negative is that they don't give you a hand or arm massage but all the other perks make up for it. I have been there a few times now and it is wonderful to be pampered in a clean salon at a great price while enjoying a good conversation with Micheal and staff. I have told my family and friends in hopes they support this business. After spending years searching around the valley for a great salon, my search has successfully ended. I highly recommended this salon and wouldn't go to a different salon again! read more

Wish I could give zero stars. I am a Black woman visiting AZ from Oakland, CA. I walk in and the guy says it will be about 10 min and asks me to sign in. Before I can even sit down he walks over to the (white) women getting their nails done and starts giving the Nazi salute and talking about Germany. None of them say anything of course. He did the Nazi salute a number of times and kept talking about Germany. I'm in shock. I walk over and ask the women is he actually doing the Nazi salute? None of them says a fucking word but one has a "I'm staying out of this" look on her face.. I am shocked and walk out. THE ONLY REASON TO DO THE NAZI SALUTE IS IF YOU ARE A RACIST. Michael and Leanne are great! After an absolutely terrible experience at a nail salon across the street, I wandered in to Modern Nails and found a real gem. The interior is clean and well appointed, but not fancy. (They recently upgraded their pedicure chairs and the new ones are very cute and comfortable with LED lights and massage.) I think my favorite thing about Modern Nails is how friendly and talkative everyone is. Whenever I go there, everyone in the room (employees and customers) is involved in animated discussion, even strangers who are sitting next to each other getting their nails done! The pedicures here are very thorough, and the girls are always very conscious of any special physical needs of their clients. I have a pinched nerve in my leg, and they're always very accommodating of the wacky way I need to bend my knees! I don't get my nails done very often, but my mother does. I have her a gift certificate to Modern Nails for Christmas in 2013, and she has been a monthly regular ever since! NW valley ladies (and gentlemen) should definitely support this wonderful family owned business! read more

I don't like giving bad reviews to any business but this business deserves to make the public aware of a very bad place. I will never go nor recommend this place again. I went for regular mani pedi the place was empty without any customers when I got there. The woman who was instructed to do my pedi was not able to communicate with me and needed someone to translate for her. Next, she didn't even know the basics of a pedicure. Afraid of even filing my toenails. The woman who came to do my manicure, started it and I had to call the managers attention that she was not doing it right. A very angry woman came to finish her job and I assure you she seemed as she wanted to cut me the wrong way and I had to stop her. The other person who was starting to do my manicure, all of a sudden disappeared and she was doing someone else's eyebrows ( waxing) she didn't come back to continue with my manicure, instead, she was instructed by the manager to do a someone else's manicure who had just arrived and didn't have an appointment. I walked out very upset without getting my nails done or my toes polished. They still charged me for a regular pedicure. Terrible service and not professional at all. Decided to give this nail salon a try after not being very happy with last place I went. I am super pleased with the quality of work. My technician was gentle and communicated the entire time. The last place I went stacked the dip powder on my nails until it felt like I had thick artificial nails on top of my own. First and last time at Modern Nails on Union Hills Blvd. The gentleman who did my fill did a good job, although his supplies, table and the things sitting on the table were grubby. The pedicure was another matter. Again, the gentleman was attentive. But I paid for a callus removal, and the guy used one of those lame Dollar Store implements rather than a proper rasp, which means that the result was about what you would expect. But the real disappointment - which was pure incompetence: I selected a soft pink color from the shellac examples. The result, which only showed up when the second coat was applied to the nails, was a lurid, tacky bright pink. Turns out that they prepared the "example" with only one coat of shellac, which resulted in a completely different shade. Although I was not charged for their error, I didn't have time to have the entire shellac process redone so my pedicure looks like it was applied in a house of ill repute. As icing on this disastrous cake, the manager was loud and made sexually and racially suggestive jokes, and they turned off the Arizona State Bowl game while patrons were watching it. read more

Salon is clean and neat, but my fave operator left so had Kim. Kim seems to not understand if you don't want the bottoms of feet scrubbed hard. Plus, the polish lasted 2.5 weeks before big chips came out of the nail itself--on one big toe and one smaller toe--probably cause they were not cut short enough (I have not had this happen ever before there). Also, the big toes are unequal size in length due to not clipping them the same. Enough errors that I am moving on...sorry, Modern Nails, cause I really did like your salon....just not this operator. read more
