I went in for a full set of acrylics and a gel polish. I was quoted through Facebook saying it'll be $30 but $27 with a student discount, and I assumed it would be a couple bucks more since I know gel polish is more than regular polish. But when she rang me up it came out to $42 even with my student ID, and I had not realized until I was signing the receipt how much she charged me because she neglected to say the price before taking my card. Also, normally I don't complain about the little things, but as she was doing my nails she was constantly looking up and away and getting distracted by other things, but she was still doing stuff to my hands. She started to get lazier but rushed, the further into the process we got. (For example: at the end she sprayed one hand with alcohol, wiped it, then put on the oil. But with the other hand, she just sprayed recklessly at my hand, put on the oil without looking and it leaked everywhere making my nails and hands sticky when I left, then just wiped it all away) but the one thing that is getting to me, is that all the nails are the same length, except for one finger that is obviously shorter than the others and the tip of the nail is somehow wider than the base, rather than parallel sides for a square round shape. read more

I lived in Albany and had tried several nail salons to see which place would be best as I was getting married. I couldn't find one in Albany so I decided to come here. The first time I came, I had made an appointment and when I came in, there were only a few customers in the place. The was a younger gal who worked there sitting in one of the pedicure chairs and didn't acknowledge me and since she was the only employee around I stood there awkwardly not knowing for sure what to do. Eventually someone greeted me and got me to my chair. The younger gal seemed very lazy, on her cell phone, talking loudly and not working at all. Even when the salon's phone rang I watched other employees in the middle of performing services stop to answer. At first I gave her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she was on her break, but after being there for an hour I realized she wasn't just on a break. Unfortunately for me, my next pedi appointment I had her. She did a terrible job! Cut my nails crooked (which I didn't realize until after I left). I have no toe nail on my big toe on one foot so I asked her to put an acrylic one on (which I've had done over the years at every other salon I all parts of the country), but she rudely kept telling me "no" that "you can't do that". I insisted you can and finally another employee came over and told her yes it can be done, so that employee actually did that for me. Next time I went in to get my gel nail polish removed (I had come in for a mani in between and got a great girl to do it that time!). The same lazy worker greeted me and asked what I was there for, when I told her, she said someone would be with me, then went and sat down in a pedi chair and was playing in her phone. I'm guessing it was an owner or manager, but a guy greeted me and asked what I was waiting for, so I told him I just wanted my gel nail polish removed and he had to tell her to come do it. I'm assuming since it wasn't a big service, she wanted to pass on me since the tip probably wouldn't be much and after that, it definitely wasn't. Especially since she did a poor job and I left with tons of gel polish still around the edges of my nails, but she was in a hurry to get to other people coming in...The only saving grace on why I came here more than once to get my nails done was because of a younger girl who wears glasses who does a great job. I wish I could remember her name! She did a mani for me twice (one was for my wedding) and she did a great job, but I was disappointed that the day of my wedding the gel polish chipped off on one of my nails, even though I had them done only a few days prior. Removed my acrylics by ripping them off with another nail. I specifically requested they not to do that because it hurts a lot, and they did it anyway. They applied sloppy acrylic that came off after a week. I wanted stiletto nails, but was given square nails. I left with ugly nails that I overpaid for. I had recently moved and was trying different nails salons. This salon is clean and they did my nails well but I had an uncomfortable experience with the employees. It appears to be a family run business, regardless the situation was this: I came in to get a regular pedi and dip. They started with my pedi at the spa chairs. I got a call from a friend and took it we spoke for about 5 minutes. I was quiet, had my mask on over my mouth with the speaker inside the mask so it wasn't annoying. I am very understanding and non confrontational but the younger woman (possibly daughter) was incredibly rude and made a scene in front of the whole shop. She said I had to get off the phone and that I was annoying everyone in the shop, I was being rude and it was bad for their business. I was so taken aback by the way she addressed. I didn't appreciate it at all and it was really embarrassing. I would have been so understanding if she just addressed it in another way. So anyway I just said oh ok sorry and ended the call. It was super awkward for everyone. Then I went to the desk for my mani and the man that helped me kept being weird about where I had gotten my nails done prior. He kept saying "So who did your nails?" I told him Crystal Nails downtown. He mumbled to himself and asked me "Why did you go there?" I told him I was new to the area and was trying out different salons. He was just strange about it like he was upset with me. He went on to tell me how they aren't good and did the dip all wrong. I just sat there at this point. I wanted to get out of there ASAP. I felt like they were just generally very rude and condescending for no reason. Anyway I would not go back and I do not recommend! RUDE owners. ohh my gosh, you're suppose to go to a nail spa for a relaxing time, instead I was baffled after years of going to this salon (and have spent a lot of money and always tip well) I was yelled at by the owner because half way thru the pedicure I told them I had to leave after allocating an HOUR for a pedicure, after they said pedicures take 40 min. I called and made sure they were slow and they said to come right in. When I told the owner I had to leave at certain time he kept yelling "come on" aggressively. After he told me I need to give them more time, I kindly mentioned I waited for 10 min before the service and verified I needed to leave at 4:55 pm he and another worker argued with me that I did not wait, it was so embarrassing. The customer service at this spa is horrible and unwelcoming. The staff talk about you in Vietnamese and if they say they can get you in you will wait and wait and wait....If you plan to get a service expect at least 2-hours and with horribly rude interactions. TL;DR - STOLE MY MONEY, bad acrylic job, does not know how to execute simple almond shaped nails (ALL are crooked) Been here twice, both times got acrylics done. The first was mediocre - the acrylic was super thick and looked more unnatural than most. My nails were tender for a few DAYS afterwards. Though it did last over a month without a single chip or crack. Decided maybe I didn't jive with the tech's style so I went back to give it another shot. Went yesterday after a long week of moving and studying for finals. I got a full set mani and spa pedi. The pedicure was good, very relaxing. I was left unattended for about 10 minutes before someone came to start working on me. Even then he took breaks while working on me to clean the seats next to me and always seemed preoccupied. This didn't bother me much since I just wanted to close my eyes and relax. The pedicure job was good, but not as close to my cuticles as I would have liked. On to the full set. It was a different tech than the one I had previously so I had hopes. Here are the pros and cons: Pros -The acrylic was a good thickness - way better than my first set. I think it's cause she filed down the acrylic again after applying it instead of continuing on. Because of this my nails are not nearly as sore as my first set. In fact - no pain at all, which is how it should be -She was nice and made conversation Cons -I asked for almond shape. At first they looked fine, but once she finished and I took a look....ALL my nails are CROOKED with a lot more attention to the right side of the nail than the other. It looks like I'm pointing to the right when I'm really point straight. One nail is cut at almost a 45 degree angle!!!! It's so hard to look at -Not close to cuticle - it looks like I got it done a few days ago when it has been less than 24 hours. The part that really tipped me over and is why I will not be returning.... STOLE MY MONEY The price for a full set with gel nails (what I got) is $45. I saw the pricing sheet right next to my tech's station. What was I charged? $50. She even hesitated before writing it down. The student discount is $5, so TECHNICALLY I paid FULL PRICE. I thought she was really sweet and nice when she was working, I was even willing to let the oddly shaped nails go and give them another try with a different nail shape next time, but not anymore. How rude. I did nothing to warrant an overcharge besides maybe request nail shape that warrants a little more time and effort to execute. Worst nail salon I have ever been to. I went in 3 times for acrylic fills and the third time they refused to fill my acrylic because it was "bad." They are the ones who put the supposed bad acrylic on there. After telling me they wouldn't fill my nails they started ripping them off my nails. They didn't soak them or file them at all. Ripped them off! They began bleeding and the man just filed over them like everything was fine. While putting the new set on they glued on the plastic tips and filed my nails in to fit the tips rather than using ones that fit! 2 weeks later my nails are coming off the nail bed. I began getting more and more dissatisfied over time as the male techs in particular, would just pawn me off to another younger or newer tech abruptly sometimes mid-service. I typically tip well and in cash so don't understand this practice. The final straw came recently when I went in and wanted to get the tips I had on removed. The male tech started peeling them off. I asked why he was doing this as I had been told (by several nail techs there) to never do this as it would ruin your nails. He reluctantly started to soak them off all the while chattering to the other techs. After about 5 mins he abruptly told me to move to another station where there was a young girl who was new. After my set of acrylics lifted badly, I went to another salon and had to have them removed. My friend who got her set at the same time as me had zero problems with hers. I think that nails are hit and miss here. Also, "solar nails," which the nail tech told me were higher quality than regular acrylics turned out to be a scam. Google it. It's a brand name, not a type of nail. Turns out they slapped a gel top coat on my plain old acrylic nails and called it a premium nail and charged me an extra $20. The new salon that removed these does this same service for $10 and they did a much nicer job on my nails. Plus they were up front about their services. I got this gel manicure 16 days ago before a crazy trip where I travelled to 6 countries within 9 days. We're talking planes, trains, taxis, and lugging 50 lb. luggage up cobblestone streets. Today I went in (with no appointment - however last time I made an appointment I still had to wait 45 minutes past to be helped) and they get my mom, sister and I sat quickly however as their services went smoothly my tech left me to soak my nails (that were cheap plastics that can be popped off) FOR AN HOUR. He had sat at another station and was working on her and had apparently forgot all about me. I left with acetoned fingers and will be avoiding this place from now on. Really too bad because they have a great selection but just seem to be terrible at timing their services. I absolutely love Modern. The staff are extremely friendly. This is my go to place. Corvallis is a small town and I don't think there are that many great salons here, that being said I think Modern has the best prices/service in town. They recently redid the interior and it looks great. My manicures last forever! They have an awesome selection of colors for Shellac. One thing I love about Modern is they know who on their staff is best at certain things, like nail art, and they'll have that person take care of that customer. Mixed feelings. Nice place, friendly people. I got an acrylic set. Was quoted $30- paid $39 Not so good with a few things. First off I made appointments at 4:30 for my friend and I. They were running about 20 minutes late. I went first and my friend was just getting hers started when I was getting polish on. They helped several other people first that came in after us without having appointments. Second- my acrylic application was no where near even. I have visible divots in my nail when you look at them. From the tip view is completely uneven. They also do not start the nail at the cuticle but rather away from it. I had been going to Modern Nails for well over 5 years. At first the service was great, but little by little I have watched the service aspect of this salon diminish. I noticed that when I made an appointment, I consistently waited from 15 minutes to a half hour past my appointment time for them to start. The services began to feel rushed, and not relaxing. The last straw for me was about a month ago. While in the middle of my pedicure, Julie was called away to do some facial esthetician work on another client. Julie indicated it would be "just a couple minutes". Well 15 minutes later, my water is cold and she had not returned. I had to call over one of the owners to ask if she was coming back. Since I had another obligation and time was an issue, I did not get the polish put on, had an interrupted pedicure, paid full price, and they told me I could come back later to have my polish put on.... (hmmm, no) . I felt that I had been a loyal customer all of these years and I feel that the management does not value me as a customer. Sorry Long and Lee (owners), I won't be back. read more

We have been coming to Modern Nails for a few years. In the beginning we had no complaints. Pedicures are amazing! Massage, hot rocks, polish-all great! Nails are a different story! A basic gel manicure is fine. It's tips with acrylic or dip that are the problem. I have had a variety of different nail techs, so it's not just one that is the problem. It feels like it's quantity over quality! Get em in, get em out! I am usually left bleeding from at least 2 nails when I'm done. The last time I was there I needed to have my dip powder and tips removed to have a new full set with acrylic put on. Instead of soaking the nails off with acrylic, the tech clipped the tips off. She then took a nail tip and proceeded to go between the dip and my nail to pop off the old dip. This was very painful and she tore 2 of my nails causing them to bleed! There was no "sorry" or acknowledgement of it other than putting some stuff on it to stop the bleeding! The finished nails were ok-too long, but it was too difficult to explain, so I went home and filed them down myself; and after a week they have grown out a bit so around my cuticle is catching on my hair and everything else! The previous time I had my nails done, I was bleeding in 5 places! This was from vigorous filing on the sides of my nails. I was burned from the file! Again no acknowledgement from the tech and the owner just said "oh" and "have a nice day"!! So I guess we will still come for pedicures, but go elsewhere for nails!! read more

They have good nail polishes, comfortable chairs and a pretty impressive magazine selection- not just US weekly, but things like Architectural Digest too. This was the first place I ever had a man give me a pedicure, and he did a great job. Silently. For those times when you don't want to chat with the person trimming your toe cuticles, this is the place. The missing 5th star is for atmosphere- the inside of Modern is dark and no frills- it feels like a beauty supply store. But the toes looked good. read more

I understand that up selling is part of the job so she was offering me other service and respectively declined and then she started to point out my flaws to get me to use other services. I have gone to this salon before. Today myself and 2 friends all made appointments at 5pm, I was getting a gel manicure and my friends were getting acrylics. We walked into the salon and they were swamped already. I was helped at 5:10 and my friends were still sitting waiting to be helped. My manicure was super rushed due to their overbooking, and as my manicure was being finished one of my friends walks up and lets me know that she hasn't even been helped yet. She asked the owner when she was going to be helped and he told her 1 minute and then never came back to help her. Very upset with the service today, especially because this salon is way more expensive than the other salons in corvallis and i assume i am paying for the better service. My nails don't feel very smooth because they were rushed. not very happy with my service today and I am not sure that I will be returning here again. read more

After scheduling an appointment and showing up on time, my friend and I started our pedicures and relaxing in their comfy massage chairs. When it came time for polish, the woman working on my friend disappeared--leaving the woman working on me to take care of both of us for the rest of our appointment. During my pedicure, my cuticles were cut too much and too aggressively, leaving me bleeding and with a weird scar above my nail. The person working on me didn't think I noticed and continued to douse it with alcohol. We moved to our shellac manicures where the one technician seemed to have a hard time finishing our appointments before they closed. Because of this, she made the cuticle on my hand bleed-again, splashing alcohol on it. Because she was left alone to work on our two pedicures and shellac manicures, our appointment ended up taking 2 hours with us staying 30 mins past close. Not even 2 hours after our appointment, my friend noticed her polish chipping. She went in the next day and was taken care of. The results are decent, the place is sanitary and the workers made conversation which is nice. read more

I went in for a fill and I had a broken nail I got one of the male nail technicians and when he was taking my broken nail off he pried it off with another nail and my nail underneath began bleeding and when I looked at it because it hurt all he did was shrug his shoulders and go "sorry" then he handed me off to someone else and they did a very poor job on my chilac and to top it off I had to refile my own nails as soon as I got in the car because they were so crooked... also my nails are so thick it's as if they didn't even buff/ file them down read more

I went here for dip. They could not do the color I wanted unless I got acrylics. They then proceeded to remove my dip and give me acrylics. As they did this they did it speedy and in a rush(I was in NO rush lol). They should've taken their time. As the guy began aggressively filing my nails my skin began to BLEED, not a lot but you'd think he'd do something about it? WRONG. Then after I had to come back in two days later because one nails already began to chip. Three days after my second visit my thumb nails BROKE so I went in again. After two weeks of my second visit both of my pointer fingers began to crack and all the rest of my nail polish was chipping, keep in mind I got gel lmao.
