Introduction I am disappointed with the uneven customer service I received from Modern Studio Furnishings. Also, my interactions with this merchant, which included placing an order online and downloading their recommended app for tracking my order, might have facilitated attempted credit card fraud. The Crux of the Matter After starting to place my order online, I decided to confirm the item was in stock and could be delivered by a certain date. Because the item was in my online shopping cart, Modern Studio Furnishings emailed me, encouraging me to complete the purchase. I called the merchant. An employee emailed me to confirm that the item was in stock and should be delivered by the intended date. The employee sent me a link to an invoice to complete my purchase. The bottom line on the invoice was hundreds of dollars more than the bottom line in my Modern Studio Furnishings online shopping cart. Not surprisingly, I completed my purchase using the merchant's online shopping cart. I received an order confirmation. I followed the merchant's instructions to download an app to track my order. Weeks passed without an update on my time-sensitive order. When I called the merchant, an employee chastised me for placing my order online instead of using the link to the invoice sent by the merchant. The employee added that the merchant's online division is distinctly different from the division she works in, so she would need a day or two to investigate. This Did Not End Well Four days later, I received an email from the merchant stating that the manufacturer had discontinued the item I purchased and that the merchant had credited my charge card. Later that same day, I received a fraud alert from my credit card company. Maybe it had nothing to do with this merchant or the tracking app that they encouraged me to use. Or, maybe it did. All in all, my experience with this merchant was disappointing. read more

I ordered a dining table and sideboard online but it was no longer in stock. I got a call from Heather about my order. I was a bit bummed out about the news I received but Heather was so awesome!!! She worked around the clock sending many options in my price range for a new dinning table and sideboard for my kitchen. I had so many options and because of her awesome customer service with sending me plenty of options I was able to find a beautiful table set that was even better than the one I originally chose. What I love about this place is how much effort their employees put into helping you find exactly what you're looking for and not just trying to make a buck by trying to push items of furniture on you to buy. There was a specific mattress I wanted which I could not find in San Diego. Found Modern Studio on the internet and called and talked to the owner John. He was very knowledgeable on the type of mattress I wanted and he helped me pick out the one that was best for me. Even though I live a little north of San Diego John gave me free white glove delivery and set up. The mattress was delivered in the original time frame given to me and I am sleeping better already. I purchased a desk and bench from Modern Studio Furnishings. The total price was $3,284. Very pricey but I though that I was getting something unique and of good quality. They did not have these items in their showroom. They do most all of their business via catalog. These items were delivered boxed.,Ikea style. The delivery men were told by the owners Mike and John that, the assembly was for us to do. For two items totaling $3,284 it was surprising to say the least. I ordered furniture not a DIY kit. Even worst the items looked like they came form iIkea. They didn't look anywhere near the same as the pictures in the catalog. Don't get me wrong, I love IKEA and I love their prices!!! I hope this review saves someone else from wasting their money. I am so happy that it was only two items for me and not my entire home. read more

After many disappointing experiences trying to purchase a sofa from the large retail establishments, we went to Modern Studio Furnishings, and they created a custom sofa for us for our family/TV room. LOVED that we could get a custom piece of furniture, at the exact scale and dimensions we needed, AND at a price comparable to the big retail store offerings! Turnaround for production was quick (2-3 times faster than the turnaround you get from your big retail furniture stores), and delivery was courteous, timely, and professional. We were under construction of our home and went to them for a dining table that we liked with a custom slab of wood. We sat with their designer for an hour describing the possible options including size of table and metal base options. There were no decisions made on the length of table or base other than it would be shorter than their 108 inch slab. Their designer took notes during the meeting of possible options and stated to us that no work would be done until we gave him the exact specifications. We came back into the show room two weeks later to let them know the length we needed and he was not there but owner was and stated that they had already cut the slab. The slab was cut a foot short of what we needed for the space and was no longer meeting our requirements. They refused to return the $3k deposit as they stated it was non-refundable. If Modern Studios would have built the custom dining table to our specifications as they agreed, they would be entitled to the deposit. Unfortunately, they ruined the custom made table and we should not be held liable for their mistake (and the deposit agreement) as they can no longer deliver the custom made table to our requirements. The only reason to buy a custom table for $6k is to provide the dimensions you need. It is unethical to confiscate the deposit if you can no longer deliver the custom product. My recommendation to anyone buying custom furniture at Modern Studio is to not leave a deposit as that money is gone no matter if they deliver the custom product or not. read more

I can't say enough about the service and wonderful experience we had buying Natuzzi Editions sofa and loveseat from them. We had option to buy the same sofa from another well known online retailer for cheaper, but we like to support local businesses and wanted to buy from an authorized dealer. John was great to work with in ordering the sofa. He helped us get a very fair deal and was a pleasure to work with. However, we have been working with Sean recently to take the delivery. He did a great job setting up the sofa in our living room, followed up quickly with another visit when we noticed something was not right. We had some damage to the frame during transport. Sean has been working with us diligently in getting us warranty support with the vendor - after them receiving full payment from us. We just moved into our house in April 2015 and we were searching up an down Orange County for furniture, until we stumbled upon Mike's and John website. We drove to Laguna Bech and looked around the shop, spoke with Mike and agreed for hi to come to our house for an initial consultation. I must admit that I was somewhat skeptical at first. But these guys did us right. Yes, you have to pay an initial fee for the consultation but will be deleted as soon as you order furniture. Modern Studio has my respect, I would comfortably buy again. Mike came out to our house, took all the measurements, designed our dining area, living area and master bedroom and within 2 weeks we had a completed house.
