I'm re-reviewing - and I still only have good things to say. A salon is as good as your hairdresser, and Erynn is new at MUD - and, I might add, a brilliant addition to the team. Her service was friendly and flawless. She listened carefully to what I wanted then went out of her way to make sure I was happy with the results. Her (environmentally friendly foam) foil job was done to perfection and her wash, scalp massage and hair handling was akin to a Gold-Seal chef creating in her own home kitchen. I knew I was in seasoned, talented hands, and best of all, I trusted Erynn's opinion, so I asked her advice about cut and styling, and she literally taught me step-by-step how to achieve the mop I want in 15 minutes or less. When I first moved to Edmonton, I had no idea where to go for a good haircut or salon services. I've tried a couple of places around the city but none of which where I totally fell in love with. At the beginning of this year, I decided that I was going to chop my hair off to where it was almost buzzed and I really wanted to go to a good place to get such a huge haircut. That's when I found M.U.D.! I was obviously scared because I've never been there before but everyone was so helpful and friendly and really listened to what I wanted. Erynn was amazing and made me feel so comfortable with the huge change I was going to get to my hair. Erynn's haircuts also grow out very well. I've only had it trimmed once or twice since I've gotten it cut and it still looks really good and has a really nice shape to it. I've recently gone back to her to get my hair coloured and she was very knowledgable about what was reasonable and what can be done with my hair. Overall it's a nice salon. The staff are friendly and customer service has always been good there like any good hair salon should be. read more

How many other salons offer a variety of beverages upon arrival plus snacks at the colour bar? Gotta love that! I am always pleased with the outcome of my hair and I am constantly getting compliments on it. The staff stays up to date with current trends and they definitely know what they're doing. Got a customized set of silk eyelash extensions by Michelle LaPratt at MUD and I absolutely love it! After years of looking for a lash extension pro to establish long-term relationships with, think I eventually found the one I really liked. Here are my top reasons why: COST: Eyelash extensions is a big money commitment which to me is a major turn off. Michelle now offers $30 off full silk sets, so volume sets are now $120, and signature - only $70! You need to go for a fill every two - four weeks though, and it costs around $50 - $65, which I think is pretty reasonable. TIME: It took only one hour, and my lashes look fuller then ever. I can comb them through very easily with a clean mascara wand, plus I do not feel them at all. Mishelle was able to get amazing results in half the time. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Michelle have been a lash extensionist for 5 years, and a makeup artist for 10 years. She has a wonderful feel for facial harmony, and was able to customize my set of lash extensions so it best fits the shape of my eyes and brows, opens up the eye, and transforms the whole appearance of my face. Michelle was super gentle. She never pulled/scratched/pinched my skin or poked my eye (believe me, it happened so much before it's not even funny). However what I personally appreciated the most was an hour of peace, silence and sleep. As a new mom the last thing I want to do during a spa or beauty procedure is to socialize. In a cosy bed under the warm blanket I passed out within just a couple of minutes, and woke up beautiful LOCATION: Modern Urban Designers is one of my favorite salons in Edmonton. Love its design, its tidiness, its atmosphere! Eyelash extensions are done in a separate room and their beds are very comfortable. Finding parking could be a little tough to find though, but as soon as you've been there once, you know where to go. Overall, I would highly recommend Michelle LaPratt as an eyelash extension pro. This place is so amazing, I came here with a seriously messed up haircut that was butchered from a previous stylist in the city and these guys fixed it like it never happened. Background - I had booked wedding hair & make-up services with a local spa/salon which had been reccomended to me by a friend. This other salon was not returning phone calls to me, when I showed up there they let me know they were in the process of selling the salon & there would be no issues. I was approached by a former employee there who said she'd be able to accomedate my whole wedding party - however, I had difficulty in reaching her at times as well....this was 2 weeks before my wedding. So....I showed up at M.U.D. on a Saturday morning with a friend...and explained the situation to Dana...she was supportive, professional & kind - she immediately consulted with her team which included Jess, Jen & Blair & let me know they would make special arrangements to accomedate my wedding party! I had a great consultation with Blair (who is FABULOUS btw!) - I feel he really listens to what I'm saying. My hair received a much needed TLC from him & we proceeded with a trial for my wedding hair after looking at pictures of the dress, veil & examples of what I liked. On the wedding day the whole team was there, all of my bridesmaids raved about their stylist. Our make up looked gorgeous in person, and in the pictures! The whole morning (despite how very early it was) was light hearted & fun! What a great start to such a special day! :) I've been back to Blair since that time & love the job he does each time - he is funny, professional & just an overall sweetheart! After trying several other salons I decided to trust the Yelp reviews and give MUD a try. My first haircut was AWFUL! There were sections right beside each other with a two inch difference in length. I looked like the third grade kid that tries to cut their hair with safety scissors at recess. Usually the manfriend can't tell when I get a hair cut but he definitely noticed this one! The styling also left a lot to be desired; when I returned to the office, one of my coworkers told me I was one Adam's Apple away from looking like a Drag Queen but if I added a pearl necklace and pumps I could probably pull off 50's housewife. While the cut and style may not have been great the service was very friendly. I was helped right away and given a lovely steaming cup of tea. When I called to let the salon know I wasn't happy with my first cut they set me up with Tami, another stylist who fixed it at no extra charge. Tami did a great job with my hair and gave me a cut that has grown out nicely. The service and 2nd cut somewhat negate the first terrible cut which leaves this hair salon with 3 stars in my books. *Also worth noting, Dana (the owner) did follow up in response to this post. This salon seems to take customer satisfaction very seriously. Ultimately you'll come out a happy customer if you visit this salon. read more

I had my hair cut and styled by Rianna today, and she was fabulous. I have very thick, wavy long hair that hadn't been cut in a long time, and she took the time to thin it out and shape it beautifully. She talked to me about what she was doing and made sure I felt comfortable throughout the process. My hair looks better than it has in years. I had heard great things about M.U.D, so I decided to get a cut before a big event. It may have been the worst haircut of my life. Not only was my hair butchered, but the stylist was very unpleasant. Needless to say, I expressed my dissatisfaction to the owner. She was considerate and accommodating and offered me a cut with her, free of cost. I went back a few weeks later, and she did a great job with my hair. Overall, I think the customer service here is good. They took the time to address my concerns and did their best to make me happy. Although I'm sure there are many good stylists here, I can only recommend the owner. read more

After 5 or 6 wonderful years with my last stylist, she's leaving the province. Sad face! So I turned to Yelp to discover my next great hairelationship. All those who reviewed before me were right - MUD, you are awesome! I was booked with Erynn, who did an amazing job. She took my hair darker, like I asked, added some perfectly matched highlights (it reminds me of a calico cat - in a good way!), and added a very cute cut. I have real side bangs now! Woohoo! Other pluses: massive windows which means lots of natural lighting; a bar-type seating area with gossip mags and candy bars instead of drinks, for when your colour is setting (so cool!); and friendly service from the whole MUD team. Needed a hair cut and colour refresh in a hurry, and based on Yelp, I tried this one. I showed up on time and had to wait 27 minutes because the receptionist had not told the stylist I had arrived. The smock I was given to change into was small and it left me feeling exposed. They did not have any other sizes or styles which is really unprofessional given that the stylist's chair I had to sit in was beside the big window, so I was on view to the world. The good news, I thought the service was great. The price a lot less than I have been paying. So I will be going back, but will remember to wear a camisole that day. read more

I'd walked by MUD a zillion times, and heard great things, but I didn't check them out until recently when I had a groupon. My experience here was fantastic. From the moment I walked in the door, every member of the staff was friendly and helpful. My stylist was great and I really liked my cut. They had me in and out pretty quickly too. After my cut, I was told to come back in 3 weeks for (free) touchups. I didn't end up going because my only problem with the cut was that a few parts were a bit shorter than I would have liked (my fault though, I didn't really mention it). Wonderful salon. I go to see Tammy (Tammi?) and she is fabulous at what she does, and friendly to boot! Their price for a mens cut ($35) is on the steep side but includes fun bonuses such as a hot towel/moisturizer process for your face, and a neck and shoulder rub, if you request it. I've been going to Rashelle for over four years now, and have always been happy with my cut and colours. She does a great job connecting with her clients; Her memory is amazing and based on her interaction with you, she'll be straight up and honest when you ask advice on colours and styles so that you get a cut that you'll be happy with long term, not just because it looked cute in a picture. If for some reason Rashelle wasn't available however, I wouldn't hesitate going to any of the other stylists here. They're all super friendly and they all take great care of their clients! read more

I moved here from the UK and struggled several times to find a decent hairdresser. Everyone I visited was either too expensive, couldn't cut straight or both! I decided to try M.U.D after I moved down the street and just needed a chop. I visited Rashelle (sp?) because I have curly hair and the receptionist informed me that she too had curly hair and always trusted her with her cut. My cut is always a straightforward one but if you get stuck with someone who isn't used to working with curls, your no-blow-dry days can be disastrous!! Rashelle was friendly, sociable, did a great cut and the price was very reasonable. My cut was great! My blowdry was speedy (I've found that all the hairdressers I have visited here take their sweet time blowdrying my hair, and I know it should only take 15-20 minutes) and the cut was just fantastic. I knew right away that may hair would look beautiful when I left it to curl naturally. Rachelle even gave me a new customer discount!! My only gripe is that the new website is not very easy to use. But if it wasn't for that they'd be 5*. I can't wait until life stops bleeding me dry so that I can go treat myself :) read more

DAVID BATES! I will follow him anywhere for my extensions. He is a master! He uses the great lengths brand and I love the way he puts them in my hair so they last way longer than 4 months! Best part about David and the great lengths is they do not damage my hair what so ever and no one knows they are extensions, I feel like a mermaid and have so much more versatility with my look after he has his way with my hair. I am extremely picky, I will only trust David Bates to do my extension work, b/c he has over 20 years experience, plus he is a genuinely nice person and makes me feel special. read more

Been to MUD three times. I like the stylists there, all very nice and professional. My most recent visit was interesting - because it was super busy and the stylist left me alone for quite some time. However, when i finally protested, they didn't charge me for the cut/ colour and also they immediately took care of my colour. The company is dedicated to ensuring that all customers are taken care of. Also, I should say the cut and colour were great. I've been going to MUD for just over two years now and I'm still in love with this place! They treat you right at this hair salon with a warm welcome from reception right as you walk in, beverages, great scalp massages during your wash and a neck massage before your cut. My husband really enjoys the hot towel during his shampoo too. I've never had one so I can't say. The stylists ask you what you want to do with your hair and listen to you. They make really great suggestions and give you a plan. I appreciate that since I know they're not just trying to get a fast cut in and get your cash. I had been seeing Blair, who was talented, funny and overall pretty awesome. But since he's gone now, I went to see Jen H. whom my friend recommended. Jen is fabulous! My cut took a little less time so she did an updo for me since I was heading to a weddding straight after my cut. I have cheated on Blair a few times but I've regretted it just about every time. A great feature is the online booking system. I love being able to book all of my appointments from home without having to call and figure out with the receptionist a time that would work for me since I work during the days and can't seem to call in before they close for the day. They just give you a call back a day or two later to confirm that your appointment has been booked so you are never left wondering if that appointment request made it into their system or not. read more

The set up is totally different and modern. And the workers are welcoming and friendly so you really wanna like the place. But of the two times I've gone here for a certain look for my hair, both times I was told they couldn't do it. Which, I understand if my hair is not manageable enough to work with but they also didn't give me much option other than "no". While the chick getting her hair done next to me was in worse shape and was getting purple and blue hair. I wasn't given much for advise and my hair was pretty well dyed the same colour as my normal hair which ya know, when you're hoping for change kind of sucks. And then, in the recent visit I was there, the stylist tried to dye my hair but didn't fully get the blonde and red out which made my hair look dull and miscoloured. She even told me that it really wasn't what she wanted and hoped for. And to top it off, I was still charged full price for hair I didn't want. Otherwise this, I would suggest that if you're hair is in great shape go here, but if it needs a little help and guidance than this is not the place for you. read more

I called and asked for a stylist that was confident with curly hair. I was assured that Tito was the man for the job. The cut I received was not appropriate for curly hair. It was nearly all one length and left me with a round bob, far too short as he didn't account properly for the curl shrinkage. Rather than risk being approached by Patrick Swayze look-a-likes and randomly hoisted into the air by strangers, I opted to straighten it every day for the last 2 weeks. It's not all bad, it did lead me to find Kelli at Ponytails + Horseshoes, who fixed it like a pro. read more

One word: David. You gotta see this guy. I have serious hair OCD. Serious. A bad hair cut is one of the only things that can reaalllly set me off. This NEVER happens with David. In fact, I have never received more compliments on my hair and people asking me where I get it done. It's David, people! Recently I had been hitting the heat styling tools a little too hard and knew that I was going to have to take at least 4 inches off the ends. I was super anxious about it but Davey took care of it and I absolutely love it. Also did I mention...he does extensions? Unbelievable work. I can only say good things. I have been going to MUD for the last two years now, and while I love the staff and quality of work, I can't give a full 5 star rating. Almost every time I go in, the stylist is running behind- like 30+ minutes, and I have been made to wait up to 45 minutes for an hour long appointment. The last time I went in, I got a cut and colour, and they had booked my stylist with another cut during the time my colour was supposed to set, she told me "See you in 25!" but didn't come back to rinse me out for almost 45 minutes and my scalp was super dry and itchy by that point. I think they need to work on their scheduling... Stop cramming so many appointments in. Quality over quantity! read more

First, I should say that I've been going to MUD for several years, but after my last experience there, I will not be returning. I popped in one afternoon for an impromptu cut and was so sad to find out that my favourite hair dresser, Tammy, was no longer working there. She gave the BEST scalp massages, was a real professional, and I loved the way she cut my hair! So, I decided to go ahead and get my hair cut with someone else. The young woman who cut my hair was very nice and very chatty, but not only was I not offered tea, there was no scalp massage and barely even a consultation about how I would like my hair cut before she was chopping it off above the shoulder- which I did not like! Toward the end of the cut, I asked her if she was going to do my bangs (which needed serious attention) and she said she cut them already. She did not. The whole thing was over in minutes and I found myself forking over $75 (including tip) for a hair cut I didn't like. Well, I lived with it for a couple of days, and when I decided I hated it, and that my bangs looked no different from the first time I went in, I went in again to have them fix it. The woman at the front desk was quite snotty with me and acted as if my coming in to have a touch up was a huge inconvenience. What made things even more awkward, was that they gave me the same hairdresser again and said, "Well she messed it up, she can fix it." In the end I did get my bangs re-cut, but she did not ask me how the rest of the cut was working for me. Both times I felt rushed through and it was a far cry from the previous experiences I'd had in past years. I will never be returning! read more

I used to get my hair cut at M.U.D. and although I do not go there anymore because it is far from where I live, I recommend this place to all the ladies out there. M.U.D. is owned by Dana who is the force to be reckoned with. She is energetic and full of life. No wonder she has achieved such a success with her business. Dana is a great hairdresser who understands hair, who listens and who assesses the client's needs before reaching for her scissors. I have never had anybody else at M.U.D. cut my hair except Dana, but one of my friends gets her cut and colour from Jen, and raves about this lady. For hair colouring M.U.D. stylists use Wella products. Other services include waxing, mani/pedis and massage. The interior of M.U.D. studio is definitely modern, sophisticated and toned down. Comfortable chairs, big framed mirrors, good music. Dana has put a lot of herself into her studio, and it shows - the place is comfortable and chic. read more

In my ongoing quest for a good one stop shop for beautifying I gave MUD a try for a Brazilian. Ill start by saying the location is difficult to get in and out of during a bust weekday and the parking situation is awful..be sure to bring loads of change to pay for a spot! When I did manage to find a place to park and went in they seemed pretty laid back and as it turned out a little too laid back..the lady was 20 min late for my appointment. So I was pretty annoyed by the time she called my name. But overall she did a good job so I suppose in this case it balanced out. The atmosphere in MUD is not particularly my taste; hippy-chique..I suppose.; but not really for me. Although I probably would give this place another try at some point but because of the annoying parking and the waiting it probably won't be anytime soon. read more

Had a mani+pedi date with a girl friend. The staff was friendly and I was quite happy with the experience (although the place was jammed pack with people and LOUD) - until I realized the nail polish didn't even last a day. It peeled off like a sheet of film, what a shame. read more

From the moment I stepped into MUD I had the feeling that they were willing to cater to my hair needs from start to finish. I booked an appointment with Rachelle, who was really nice and went out of her way to understand what I wanted with my hair. Me being simple and not really knowing what I wanted other then to grow it out, clean it up and lighten the layers she was a great at helping me understand what I needed to do to get what I wanted. Starting with the wash which was very relaxing and the massage was great, I wish it lasted longer :P Then the cut, it was pretty quick and simple since I only wanted a trim but she did a great job and booked me for a complimentary clean up in three weeks because it would help my hair grow faster. That was great of her to do and I am looking forward to my appointment :) She also put on my file a complimentary session with her showing me how to style my hair. I think I have found my new hairdresser :) and I'm super happy about it since I've been searching for years for a new one after my old one moved. The price is reasonable, since I was a first timer I received 10% off but without the 10% the wash, cut and style would have cost $55 which really isn't bad at all. The only bad thing I have to say is parking is hell! It took my nearly 20 minutes to find a spot(since I had no change on me I couldn't park in a meter parking spot) and I had to walk 4 blocks. They might want to consider telling you where to park when they call the confirm the appointment. Other than that, The people are great! The Service is awesome! and my cut is perfect :) I can't wait to go back! read more

Very friendly, great atmosphere and the service is beyond excellent. I heard mud through yelp and its been a while since my last haircut ( to be exact maybe 2 yrs). Didnt exactly know what i wanted to do with my hair at the time. My stylist gave suggestions as to what would work with my face structure. Sounded pretty good, so i agreed. To cut a long story short. Had an awesome time but i just didnt like how my hair turned out. ( i didnt want her to feel bad so i never told her) Maybe its my fault should have been more vocal.
