If I could give this place negative stars I would... 3 yrs ago, I had them just put a new convertible top on. They charged me 2000.00 for it. Here we are 3 yrs later and I'm replacing my top again because it started sagging and leaking from the back window. Come to find out, they broke all the clips holding it, tried to glue parts of it, and ripped out all the rivets. Found the manufacturer date on the top and it's from 2008 so they used a cheap used top that "looked ok" and tried to pass it off as new. I would never take my car there... AJ Amavizva is the most unprofessional and unethical person on the planet. He's worst than scum. Our dear friend took his car there, spent 15,000.00 to work on the suspension. He did a hack job, replaced parts with old parts, charged for parts that were "new" but was exactly the same. My friend Bob had cancer and he knew this. I feel like he accelerated his death by the stress he caused him. He got sued but because our friend past away, the lawyer recommended that the wife take whatever she can. She wasn't on the original case. This fool gave her $500.00! He is a DISGUSTING human being and I'm so happy that his sorry ass closed his business. Modesto Customs is a scam, fraudulent and operates under zero ethical/moral values. Owner Albert Amavizca, aka "AJ", admitted to me on 5/30/24 that he used the money that I paid him for a front clip ($6,780) on his own house mortgage payment! This is only a slice of the pie of lies he fed me over the course of the 5 years he had my '64 Chevy Nova. I just recently repossessed my car; only to find that very little had been done to it! Not only were there parts missing that I had paid Modesto Customs for, but there were missing parts that had been handed over to AJ in 2019 when he took my car (rebuilt engine, brand new engine mount, rebuilt transmission, rebuilt rear end, new white wall tires, a rotisserie... just to name a few). In fact when I asked one of the employees where my tires were, he told me "don't know, but they had been used as rollers for other cars around the shop." When I asked AJ where all those parts were, his text response to me was "those are all gone" with no further explanation. Not only was I not able to repossess old/new parts given to AJ, there were numerous new items that I had paid for (like the front clip) that were not present upon repossession. My Nova was partially painted in 2021, but the remaining 40% of the car was never touched. The shop that now has my car now informed me that the car was never sandblasted or primed; which was supposed to be included in the $20k+ I paid AJ for the paint. Every time I visited Modesto Customs I met a new paint guy. They clearly couldn't retain any of their employees. Their communication is horrible and non-existent. There were often long stretches of months that would go by when I couldn't get a call or even a text back! When I finally did get a text response from AJ, it was always short/vague. AJ told me so many lies over the course of 5 years that he couldn't keep his stories straight as to why the car hadn't been worked on or when it would be finished. I would only get calls from AJ when he needed money for a part; "We're starting on your car next week, but I need payment for this part so I can order it and have it here in time." I didn't want to delay the work any longer than it already was, so I would pay the money. They were very pushy and aggressive to receive payment, but very slow to respond to any inquiries or updates on the car. In hindsight, they never bought these parts, they were needing the money for some other reason/debt. At one point AJ told me their bank didn't allow them to accept credit card payments anymore and future payments had to be paid to his wife's business "Winslow INC", but only via Zelle, ACH or check payments. I've come to learn that both Modesto Customs and Winslow INC have been defendants in multiple lawsuits over the past several years. Their record keeping and billing system is abysmal! They never provided any invoices and dragged their feet providing a simple receipt, if they provided one at all. AJ would just list things on the original estimate that he gave me in Sept. 2019. Additional notes were kept on a blank piece of printer paper. According to AJ, this was a "contract" per his defense when I first asked for a refund on undelivered services and parts. Even if it were a contract, it would be null and void as he added copy to it after it was signed by me. Not only did he charge me for parts that I never received, I've come to learn that he added a 30% increase on their retail value; way more than the average markup of most auto shops. The Small Block 383 Stroker engine that I paid AJ for ended up being a long block. So the one part that I actually did receive, isn't even the right part! AJ is quick to lose his temper and would threaten with inappropriate and unprofessional remarks when he is accused of not being truthful, or any time you ask or imply you want to take your car elsewhere and any time a potential lawsuit is mentioned. When I was at Modesto Customs the day I repossessed my car I had an employee call AJ, I asked him where several parts were, like the rebuilt engine I originally gave to him. His response was: "Just take the 383 Stroker, it's a better engine!" Of course I'm going to take the 383 Stroker.. I PAID for it!! Don't act like you're hooking me up with a better engine in replacement of the original engine I handed over to you to install. I never did get that engine back; I imagine it was sold and the money was used to pay off another debt. The last thing AJ told me on the phone that day was that he's closing and to "grab everything that's yours! I don't know when the landlord is going to lock the gates on me!" AJ refuses to provide any refunds or to do anything to rectify his illegal and wrong doings to me as a full paying customer. I can go on and on about how crooked this business and ownership is, but my time on this matter is better spent elsewhere and not on this review. You get the point. Do not bring your business here! my 64 had some dents, some rocker panel rust, the back fenders were damaged. i had fiberglass steps that were too short. Modesto customs did all the body work repair and matched the paint beautifully. I also needed complete interior, door panels, he found a 64 bench seat, wrapped everything in Italian leather, MBZ carpeting, i am so happy for the turnaround and the quality, this shop went above and beyond ! wrapped the steering wheel, shift boot, sun visors and kick panels all leather !! take a peek!! Great staff at this shop!!! highly recommend to any hot rod, low rider or any vehicle these guys are the best!! read more

This shop is nothing but a hack shop. AJ is the most unprofessional business owner I have ever dealt with. He lies, screams bullies and intimidates you. You will regret ever giving this jerk a dime. He puts used equipment in place of promised new products. The biggest fraud I've ever dealt with. They give you a price then hold your car hostage after they double the cost. Super Disappointed. We went to Modesto Customs for a simple upholstery project with a specific deadline. They were quick to take our money and commit to meeting a two week completion date. Unfortunately that 2 week commitment turned into 2 months with multiple empty promises (AKA lies) sprinkled in throughout each week. Missing the agreed to deadline was a huge burden on us, but Modesto Customs did not seem to care as they continued to drag us along with empty promises. So when I turned them into the BAR THE BAR told AJ and Jenna they owe me my money back, and AJ and Jenna refused to follow the law and pay me back. And then they agreed at first to pay for some of the repairs needed for my 55 Chevy that they did not do correctly, leaving leaking brake fluid, loose upper and lower control arm bolts. Leaving other bolts untightened. and all around poor workmanship leaving my car in an unsafe manner, which is why I went to the bar. They refused to pay for the repairs that the bar found in an Auto inspection of my car and I found a lot more bad installs and incorrectly install and not torqued down bolts later on every time I looked into why things were not working properly. This left my car in an un-safe condition, and his shop Modesto Custom in his effort to hurry up as fast as possible now with less experienced Mechanics when his Experienced Mechanics left his shop, Which he did not pay when they left which he does to Employees that leave is what I was told. When he wants to Rush the cars thru his shop to make his profits faster. So I will continue to make it known to all who read this, what happened to my 1955 Chevy Show Car that he made worse after they threw my car together at the end of it sitting around his shop for 1 week less than 1 year, and I expected to get a perfect car back and it is a mess I am trying to get repaired, and pay my self for parts he took off my car and never re-installed like the Sun Visor's, like the AC condenser radiator he installed of my property on a 1951 Chevy Black Truck, I think belonging to David. without my permission, My Property he owes me back. I took my 2016 Mustang here to have the calipers painted about a year ago. I was told that the calipers were going to be removed and painted the correct way. I recently changed out my headers and add lowering springs and sway bars, this gave me the opportunity to look under the car and really look at my suspension. It was very clear from under the car that the calipers were NOT removed as this shop took the easy way and just sprayed them while on the car. Over spray was all over the suspension. The paint job has also not lasted and darkened and started to chip in just a year. As a women, I feel lied to and cheated. read more
