Went in here yesterday to pick up flowers a co worker and I ordered on Monday. Keep in mind, we put down a deposit for the flowers on Monday so they would be ready on Wednesday. Come Wednesday, we arrive around 1:30, and our flowers were not done, one of his florists was still putting them together. Customers come in, who are students and they obviously are shopping around for flowers because they are on a budget, he was incredibly rude to them, saying not to waste his time, and that they better come in and order next time and know what they want. Finally at like 1:50 our flowers are done but he is continuing to babble and take his time on flowers that should of been done before we even got there. So I asked him nicely to finish the flowers because me and my co worker had to leave. He throws a temper tantrum, saying I'm rude, he isn't going to deal with rude people, and threatens to throw the flowers we ordered a way and not take our business (in which we ordered and paid for in advance) Never going back here again. Moe is the only florist that I trust in the Bay Area. Most of the time, my experience with florists is that they tend to get the better end of the deal and I end up spending way too much money and walk away with a couple of measly flowers. Since my freshman year at Cal, Moe has supplied me flowers, or in some cases a single flower, as the budget permitted. I now simply tell Moe a dollar amount and he arranges a wonderful bouquet that I am able to take home to my wife after each visit to the Cal campus (a couple of time a year). There is no nickel and diming and I have always felt that he gives me a good deal for the dollar amount. It is no wonder that Cal students from generations past continue to visit Moe whenever in town. He has a phenomenal memory as well. I've gone to Moe's for many years now and I honestly have to say that I have not been able to find a better florist than him. His flowers are always so fresh and there is so much variety. He's also very quick and will be accommodating to your budget. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of his flowers. The presentation of his bouquets are amazing...no one does a better job at wrapping flowers than Moe. If you just give him a specific color scheme for your bouquet, tell him for what occasion the flowers are for, or even just say "make me a bouquet that looks good," you won't be disappointed because Moe is such an experienced florist. If you pre-order leis for graduation, he will definitely have the best flowers for the price. Even though he can be quite blunt at times when it gets busy and he's stressed out, he really does have a good heart. You have to understand that most of the time, he's working the whole shop by himself and he doesn't make that much of a profit selling flowers at such an affordable price. So, if you want the best experience here, don't go during his busiest times (i.e. right before graduation ceremonies or right after work hours on holidays) or just give him a call to pre-order your flowers. read more

I visited Moe's Flowers because before I even realized there was a flower shop, I could smell it! That was quite impressive, so a friend and I stopped in. We were also hoping we could get our parking tickets validated, so I asked him if we could do it there and he said yes, if you buy something. So we were looking around, and began talking, and he seemed a little rough around the edges at first, but really he is a sweetheart. He asked where I was from and made lots of conversation. He gave me my parking validation for free and said that he liked us, and hopes we'll come back to see him. What a sweet, adorable man! Then he made us each a mini bouquet, just to have. I love Moe. I love how he's such a straight shooter, though that might turn some people off. His flowers are top quality, and he definitely takes care of them. He always gives you great quality flowers. He also takes bad customers really well, as I witnessed this past week. As I was getting a flower lei for my sister's graduation, he asked me to not touch them unless I was going to buy them, because it bruises the flowers. It made sense to me, and it's consistent with the care for his flowers that I've observed. However, some other people came along and ignored what he said, and just flipped through a few of them, and put it back without buying them. Moe sarcastically tells them, that's why he tells people not to touch them, because a lot of times they don't end up buying the leis and they bruise the flowers. They seemed angry and say that it's because of bad customer service that they didn't buy it. Moe just laughed it off as them being ridiculous as he continues to help me (and I totally agree with him in this case, they were just being entitled jerks). So bottom line, he has a good reason for everything he asks you to do, and just trust him, it's this careful care for all his flowers that allows him to sell such top-notch flowers. read more

Moe's Flowers is great! I called from across the country (MA) to order Get Well flowers by phone for my friend who attends UC Berkeley. He asked how much I was willing to spend on a bouquet and he was very willing to accommodate me since I am also a college student. Since the price of the flowers was under the range for delivery, we arranged it so that my friend would go to the store to pick up the flowers himself. My friend was surprised by Moe's phone call telling him that he had flowers to pick up at the store, and the bouquet was beautiful. We've been buying flowers Moe's since we were students back in the 1990s. His bouquets are phenomenal. Every time we buy a $20 or $25 bouquet, he would create one that looks like it's worth double. I needed a nice bouquet to give my mom. I ended up getting a HUGE mixed bouquet from moe's for $40 and the flowers are still looking awesome after a week. I have never seen anything like his flowers. They are all in topnotch shape, and moe is very knowledgable about his flowers. I did not have to say much and he was able to put together stem after stem into a gorgeous arrangement. They key is to trust him to create something beautiful and just tell him your budget. For $40, I felt like I was walking away with an $80 arrangement. I know it's a week before V-Day, but I've been working on surprising a friend who lives in Berkeley Student Housing with Valentine's Flowers for a little over a week now and Moe has been very helpful. I'm from her hometown 3 hours away and Moe is helping me keep the surprise till the last possible moment since all student deliveries will be redirected all the way to another address and street and are not given door codes. I am verifying where she'll be on Vday the day before and tell Moe; and then on D-Day I call her pre-delivery and giver her Moe's number and the delivery man will meet her wherever she is at that morning. Planning this took Yelp reviews to find a florist (yay yelp!) nearby and a call to Student Housing since I couldn't ruin the surprise and needed info on student deliveries. And lots of talk with Moe. I DO NOT understand how this flower shop has 4 stars on yelp. I would give -100 stars if I can. First of all, the owner was extremely rude and disrespectful. He yelled at my mom for picking up one of the flowers from one bucket which did not have any single sign that saying those are not for sale. Second, he yelled at me for putting one flower back into the bucket, and I did not see any sign saying once you touch the flowers you MUST purchase them. I gently told the owner how the customers will know the store policy without any sign in the store? and this guy responded back "you two are driving me nut!" Right after I heard him saying that, told him we do not want to buy any flowers from him anymore, and the way he talks to this customers is extremely rude and unprofessional. Then, the owner started yelling at us "Get out of here!!!!" He totally ruined my mood, and I came all the way from So-cal in order to attend a graduation. As a lover of plants and a Berkeley resident, I've had a lot of fun going to all of Berkeley's nurseries and florists to check out what variety of plants they have. I decided to check out Moe's about a year ago with my boyfriend and after browsing around some of the plants outside I brought one in and asked the price. The man working there, assumedly Moe, shouted "that's not for sale!" at me with an angry face and made the experience so unpleasant that I decided I better leave. About a month ago I decided I'd try his place again because I saw some new plants outside. When I walked up, there were other people at the shop yet he directly told me "I'm closed! I'm not selling anything!" and again, I left very confused, distraught and unhappy. Today was the third time I decided I'd give his shop a try to figure out whether or not I was confused by this man's attitude. I can certainly tell you this will be the last time. I stopped by at 5:00pm and there were several girls looking at the cacti out front when my boyfriend and I walked up. It was less than a full minute before, once more, this man yelled at us from inside the shop that "I'm on lunch break! I'm not selling you anything! Leave!" I began walking away and looked through the windows to see him shouting things at us from inside the store. I was so hurt by how much disrespect this man has showed my boyfriend and me. I am not particularly shabbily dressed and I am quite enthusiastic about plants so I cannot figure out what I might have done to upset this man now three times or to have triggered such an unwelcoming response. I wish I could understand what makes this man treat some with human dignity and others with none at all. I will never shop hear again and if you believe people should be treated respectfully and with kindness I would advise you do not give this man your patronage either. By the way, never felt like I needed to write a Yelp review but my experience hear has been so unpleasant that I felt the need to share my knowledge. Please consider other florists and nurseries in Berkeley. At no other place have I had such an unpleasant experience. read more
