I've ordered several floral arrangements to be delivered to my Cal student over the past few years. The flowers are always fresh and gorgeous & Moe always adds a little extra at no charge. I just called to have him do a special arrangement for my daughter's 21st birthday and he gave me a great price on 21 roses. He even suggested delivering them today rather than tomorrow (her actual birthday) so she could enjoy them her entire birthday. Now that is a thoughtful guy! read more

This guy was impossible to work with. At first he was giving us a great deal on corsages + boutonnieres ($15 for a set which is a steal). But he was impossible to communicate with over the phone. He kept talking over me, interrupting me, and not letting me speak at all. I was trying to explain that one of the couples in our group wanted two corsages instead of a corsage and boutonniere. He explained that he would have to charge the same amount, $15 for each corsage and just forgo the boutonniere in the set. I understand that corsages are more expensive and this is still a deal. I was trying to say that, and explain what I understood for clarification but he got extremely defensive when I started to speak, assuming that I was trying to protest, which I was not. He went on and on making me feel like I was taking advantage of the deal which I wasn't, I just wanted to confirm with him how many sets I should order. I got very frustrated at the fact that he would not let me speak. He wouldn't even stop talking when I continued to talk even though he was talking over me. We used Moe to do the flowers for our wedding last May. Moe's no-nonsense attitude and his extensive knowledge of flowers made me trust his judgment immediately upon meeting him (that and I had heard good things about him from a friend). We only had to tell him what colors we wanted and pick out the main types of flowers, and he created a gorgeous array of wedding flowers for us. Plus his prices were hard to beat. We got the bridal bouquet, 4 bridesmaids bouquets, 3 corsages, 7 boutonneers, 2 large altar arrangements, and all of the orchids to float in candle centerpieces for about $380! Thanks Moe! Oh Moe...You are kinda amazing. I am reading these reviews on Yelp and I pity those who have given moe less than 4 stars. Yes, he has AN AWESOME sense of humor, and it just takes the right kinda love in your heart to handle it, but if you do, you will leave with a ginormous grin on your face. Moe goes out of his way to make my meager budget of 10-15 dollars into a beautiful and generous 30-40 dollar bouquet. Moe is great, he OPENS MUCH LATER than other flower shops, great customer service, very friendly, does NOT try to keep adding flowers in order to jack up the price, HUGE selection of very pretty flowers. One time I wanted to get rid of some pebbles from an old flower vase and I took it to Moe's, he was so kind to offer my favorite flower in exchange and I ended up walking out with 4 colorful beauties wrapped up with cellophane and a bow. I've never purchased flowers before so I am sure this review is less than useful to die-hard flower folks. I wish to comment on the rather polarizing views on Moe's attitude. I called Moe today to purchase a bouquet of flowers for my wife's birthday. He was very polite over the phone and assembled a beautiful and generous bouquet for her. I told him I would swing by after work to pick them up and he had it ready to go and even helped me get them into my car. All of this I would consider standard good practice and proper manners for any shop-owner. What truly impressed me was while I was waiting he helped another woman who must have been a frequent customer. He picked out a pretty and simple bouquet for her daughter's 16th birthday. He gave the bouquet to her as a gift. Now obviously you could say that this was a ploy for procuring future business, but his kindness and attitude towards her as well as his other customers shows a different side. I am not trying to discount the people who had negative reviews and saw Moe on what was obviously either a bad day or rubbed him the wrong way. I will say that my experience was very pleasant and I will be back there soon to review again. Personally if I had any friends who wanted flowers for any occasion I would send them here. read more

Wow.Wow.Wow. I called to see if they had graduation leis to sell and I was screamed at! Very hurriedly, the man that answered said he had two types. When I asked what the two different types were, he said angrily, "You want to order or not?...if not, I don't have time!" (Again--very angry tone) I told him that I would like to order now but would like to know the difference between the two leis so I could choose which lei to order. He then started screaming to me that if I didn't want to pay the price I was welcome to pay twice that amount at graduation. What??!!! Then he continued, screaming-- "I don't understand you people!!"--(You people???) "You pay all this money for school and then don't want to pay for a lei". I told him I don't know what he is talking about. I'm just trying to place an order. I just need to understand the difference between the two leis so I could choose which one and order now. I am not complaining about the price. He kept yelling insults over me like he didn't even hear me---just broadcasting/spewing his anger over the phone--- I listened to his rant and then finally said quietly that I am feeling abused. Moe is an incredibly nice man, and there's no doubt in my mind that even though he has a wonderful selection of flowers, it is he that makes me a loyal customer of his shop. My girlfriend and I come here often, and we love this place. We'll sometimes buy bouquets of flowers, but more often than not we'll ask for something that Moe himself will make for us on the spot. Today, on my way back to the parking garage on Durant, I stopped to get flowers. I love flowers, but I am a starving student. Moe not only gave me a great deal on some beautiful and healthy lilies, we had a great conversation. He was beyond generous and offered me the flowers that could not be sold because the stems were too short. And, when I insisted on paying at least five dollars, he gave me roses. This is by far the best florist that I have ever been to. The flowers we perfect, the shop was well stocked, the business was personal. I just wanted to add to the rave reviews of Moe's Flowers His floral displays are so absolutely beautiful. On top of that, he always gives you a lower price than anyone in the area. I have personally been the recipient of some of Moe's flowers and they are always fantasticly beautiful. I also always purchase flowers from Moe - he accomodates anything. I've had the car filled with the most beautify sprays of lillies to take to family funerals, gorgeous borquets for peoples' birthdays, and fantastic arrangements for just about anything. Even better than his flowers is Moe. He is so loving and warm hearted. I remember many years back, the Telegraph Area Association awarded him a special award. They gave him the Best Businessman Award for the Telegraph Area. They never awarded anyone else with that and created it just to show how loved and appreciated Moe was. Best florist in Berkeley, hands down. Moe is incredibly sweet and considerate and did I mention that he makes amazing bouquets? He really tries to help you out and he's a great person to chat to. What can I say about Moe?? I love this man! I first found Moe when I was 16 and skipping school to hang out in Berkeley :) This was 15 years ago and I was living in Marin County at the time. I got a large (bigger than my head) bouquet for my mother, which he designed, and it was only $10. It then became a tradition everytime my friends and I were in Berkeley to get flowers at Moe's. Wow, this was back when he only had a cart....not the store he is in now! I remember when I was bumming around on my 21st birthday. I wasn't even sure if I would celebrate that night. I got a bouquet of Daisies and chatted with Moe for a bit. Told him I was going to get some Blondie's Pizza and would say "Hi" on my way back to the parking garage. While at Blondie's these 5 frat boys came in. Each with a rose. Moe had given them to the boys and told them where they could find me. I got a kiss on the cheek from each and they passed on the roses. What a great birthday moment. I grew up in Marin County and now live in Sonoma County. I don't have much of a chance to see him but on the 1 or 2 visits a year he remembers me and gives me a GREAT deal on my flowers. I wish he was in my town! read more

Bought a Boutonniere from here; it was really pretty and the cheaper then at other florist. I called ahead and was in and out of the shop in like 3 minutes. But it died before we even finished taking pictures it started drooping down and everyone else's was fine, it could have been because I got it the day before and just kept it over the fridge overnight. I received the WORST customer service of my entire life today so I decided to open a yelp account and write my FIRST yelp review just to warn other customers and get this off my chest since I'm still upset about the situation. I wanted to get a blue and gold leis for my boyfriend's graduation and I called a couple of florist to ask for the price. Most places told me they are selling it for $40 but Moe is only selling it for $20. He told me that I should come to the store and check out the leis. So I went to the store next day and asked if I can pick up the leis at 7am on the graduation day and asked for the price. He told me that he will be opened at 6am during graduation week and the price would be around $20-$25. He told me that I can come on the 13th which is today to check out the leis before ordering. But then I came today to check out and received horrible service. I came to the shop and he was helping another customer so I waited. He then took out the leis for me to look at and I decided to order it. I asked for the price again and he told me that it's $30. I told him the price was $20-$25 when I ask earlier and he started barking at me and ranting about how limited the leis were and that he's doing me a favor. So I accepted it since I just wanted to know why there's a change in price and I came here mainly because he has the cheapest price. He then asked me when I would like to pick up the leis and I told him 7:30am on the graduation day. He said he'll write it down as 8am so I asked why can't I come at 7:30 since he guaranteed before that he will be in the shop at 6am. He then started ranting about how there's going to be traffic in the morning and he can't make it on time. He told me to come the day before but I'll be out of town that day. So I told him that I'll just come at 8am. He got mad and yelled at me for 'arguing about the price' and 'arguing about the pick of time' while all I did was discuss it with him in a polite manner. Then, he started ranting about how busy he was and that I'm taking up his time while I was only taking up 5 mins of his time. I ordered the leis anyway due to convenience. I left the shop feeling absolutely mortified about the whole experience. I understand that Moe might be going through a lot of stress and anxiety but I do not think he should project it to his customers. It is simply not professional to do so. I honestly never received such horrible customer service in my entire life. I honestly was just asking basic questions about my order aka the price and the pick up time but he acted as though I'm 'arguing' with him and 'wasting his time'. Also I only had to 'discuss' with him since he TOLD ME that the leis only cost $20-$25 and that he would be in the shop at 6am in the morning. His attitude was completely different after I decided to buy the leis from him. I want to be fair to Moe though since I might just came when he's having a bad day. So I looked at the other comments on yelp. I noticed that most 5-star ratings are from people who bought flowers from the shop without needing to 'discuss' anything about price or flower arrangement, etc. The 1-star rating are from people like me who had to 'discuss' details about our order, whether it's the flower arrangement or the pick up time. So my final advice would be: if you're looking for a cheap and convenient place for flowers, and you also do not have much to comment about your order, check out his shop. However, if you might need to ask questions like 'how much are these flowers' or 'discuss' any details about your order, you might get yelled at by him for wasting his time and he will enlighten you about his busy life. I personally will never visit his shop again and would rather pay more money for better service. He might be in a better mood next time I come but I'm not risking it. I used to go to Ana's Flowers & Gifts on Gilman and they were extremely kind. They would chat with me and give me beautiful cards for free. I have attempted to look around his shop three times with my girlfriend and once by myself and every encounter the owner has shouted us out of the shop. Had the rudest experience at moes flowers. It was graduation time and I was getting flowers for my girlfriend and simply asked moe for his recommendation. I can understand that he was busy however moe actually lashed out on a number of customers including me that day. He was more concerned about how much money he was going to make, constantly asking me for my price range rather than the quality of flowers for the bouquet I asked him for. Just left Moe's flower shop crying. I went to buy a small bouquet and he told me each flower stem was $2 or $3 totaling $9, so I asked to remove one of the $2 flower stems. And he immediately started yelling at me at the top of his lungs about how "cheap I am." He never apologized. I heard another story last year very similar, where Moe freaked out on a customer, I originally didn't believe it because I thought he was nice. I don't care who you are, you never yell at a customer especially unexpectedly. From a fellow college student I highly suggest you DO NOT go to Moe's. Do not support his service. Moe is the florist for my upcoming wedding. I've read his reviews-and I honestly think there's a cultural and generational difference. He's an older man from a different country and English is not his native language. He means well, will give you fabulous flowers for an astonishing price/discount. I recommend him for graduation, birthdays, Valentine's Day, weddings, mother's day, etc. He has an artistic eye for floral arrangements and often gives significant discounts for beautiful flowers. When i approached him for my wedding-he gave me a breakdown of flowers by season, color, and even suggested which flowers would go best with my wedding colors and off white dress. He knows flowers inside and out. He is also an exceptionally hard worker, and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone cheaper or for a better quality value. He will not sugar coat. You can go somewhere more expensive with less pretty flowers, and be treated with velvet gloves-or go to him, get your florals at slashed prices for beautiful blooms, and sometimes get a gruff response. I would rather get cheaper, better flowers from a guy who has a bit of cultural and generational gap in how he addresses me-then poorer quality flowers at a significantly higher price by someone with a velvet voice and perfect attitude. He has only been kind to me off and on for 20 years. I don't know if I just have a different experience or what. He's been angelic and sweet to me-but I don't want to discount other people's experiences. I just feel that it's from cultural differences rather than actual meanness or malice. His work speaks for itself. At the end of the day, you will get a great arrangements that looks beautiful at an incredible cost. That to me is what makes a great florist. He's an expert at what he does, and I trust him with managing the decor of my wedding-and I wouldn't if I didn't absolutely believe in his talent and knowledge of flowers. read more

My fiancée and I hired Moe to be our florist for our December wedding last year. I was hesitant to work with Moe initially because I could not get a good read whether he'll do a good job on wedding flowers. Most of the Yelp reviews claimed that Moe makes beautiful bouquets. I did not come across any comments on bridal flower. So, we stopped by his shop one day to decide for ourselves. I completely agree with most Yelp viewers. Moe is not the easiest vendor to work with. You have to cradle him to get on his good side. Once you get past that, he's super kind and generous. It's a give and take kind of a relationship that I've built with him while we were planning our wedding. Here's some bride to bride advice if you like Moe to be your florist: 1. He carries some of the freshest and healthiest flowers I have ever seen in a floral shop 2. His price is very reasonable, almost inexpensive compared to other shops. On the other hand, there were a few cons: 1. He is not a floral designer. Don't expect a piece of art centerpiece on your wedding table. Moe is good at picking up a few bunches of flowers and wrapping them up for a graduation gift. 2. You have to provide your own design, know exactly the type of flowers that you want. Showing him a picture would be best. If he inserts his own ideas, stick with yours. Be firm. 3. His services do not include set up on your wedding site. I had to pay extra for delivery from his shop to my wedding site that was only 15 minutes away (which I thought was overpriced). Anything you ask after the initial agreement may become expensive and the vendor inflexible. Why? Because he's already got half of your deposit and you'll feel the need to work with him. 4. You'll have to deal with his personality. 5. A few months before the wedding, I ask for a sample of the centerpiece to be made. I was happy with the sample. On the wedding day, I noticed the centerpieces had less flowers and the arrangement was slightly off. I made my decision to work with Moe solely because of the price and was tired of searching for floral vendors. If price was not factor, I would have loved to hire a floral designer (which could cost several thousands and upwards depending on the size of your wedding).
