It felt like what you'd expect if you drove 20 minutes home and then tried to eat it. The ribs were really good though--no complaints there at all. They were cooked well and the sauces were great. The mac and cheese needs a little attention, though. That one didn't quite hit the mark. To preface, I've never been to the South before (hello from So Cal!!) but I was here on a work trip and tried yelping some Bbq since that's what the south is known for right? Well, Moe's came up and we drove straight here from the Birmingham airport in about 10-15 minutes. Overall, the flavor and service were on point but it is definitely that sports bar kind of feel, if you're into that! FOOD I ordered the smoked turkey breast, green beans and slaw which came with cornbread. The smoked turkey breast was seasoned perfectly and wasn't dry at all and was so well complimented by the sides. The only thing I didn't really like was the cornbread but I think that this type of cornbread is probably the way it's made here in Alabama because I tried it at two other establishments and they basically tasted the same. The cornbread was dense, not sweet and dry. I'm thinking this is probably best with gravy or bbq sauce (which doesn't come with the turkey breast entree). SERVICE Southern service is at a whole other level!! Everyone was so nice and patient as we stumbled around the menu. OTHER Parking was pretty easy but felt... ghetto? It seems the portions are smaller at this location than at other locations, but the biggest reason for the low rating is simply the ride service. I was attempting to get more unsweet tea and it was empty. I politely called an employee over. My exact wording was "Excuse me, sir" to which I was given an annoyed "What?" I said they were out of unsweet tea and his answer was "I know, I will get to it when I do" and then he stomped off. So, I braced myself for a bumpy ride. I ordered the "ribs" with grilled corn and squash casserole. Hubby ordered the smoked wings with black-eyed peas and Mac & Cheese. Ribs--no smoke but otherwise tender. From what we could deduce on our own, the ribs were spare. 4/5 Grilled corn--canned corn with weird pieces of ham and bell pepper thrown in. No grill ever touched this corn. 1/5 Squash casserole-- A very limited amount of squash, with 2 1/2 inches of egg and a lump of cheese. 3/5 Smoked wings-- no smoke. Asked the same cashier/order taker how they're prepared and if the smoking is done on site, and she said, "they're fried". 3/5 Black-eyed peas-- seemed less likely from a can, had a decent flavor. 4/5 Mac & cheese-- all mac, no cheese. 1/5 We watched our cashier/order taker go back to the kitchen several times and remain back there. Hubby needed a to-go container and had to go to the kitchen. There had already been a customer waiting for about five minutes at the counter. Then she went back into the kitchen and another customer came, and she finally wandered out. My hubby told me later, that it looked like some of her friends had arrived, and sat at the bar. She was distracted with her social life, while business was going on. There was no manager in sight. First time eating at this location. I was working close by at Huntingdon college and stopped in. I've always loved this area Moe's is in. We were met with a big smile and friendly service, didn't wait a minute to be seated. We all got the smoked wings, they have the best smoked wings, the meat falls off the bone! Really? I traveled from the Midwest to experience southern barbecue. Small portions in little plastic cups and bun cardboard containers. I had 1/2 a chicken off the bone which was about 1/4 cup of chicken in a cardboard boat. They had run out of ribs before we arrived ! The sides were cute for a child . Actually, the food was fair. The BBQ, which wasn't the best I've ever had, still wasn't bad. The sauce was the same as well as the sides. No qualms whatsoever with the food. However, whoever runs this place is a dumbass. Is it even ok to use the word dumbass on this website? I sure hope it's ok to use the word dumbass to descrobe the dumbass that runs this place because using a word other than dumbass to describe the dumbass that runs this place would be a dumbass thing to do. Stood in line for 28 minutes (seriously) while the one and only worker, who'll I'll just refer to as Mrs. Inept, took orders from customers both standing in line as well as all of the call in orders. She literally was averaging 1 customers every 4 minutes. Of course the bartender, who I'll refer to as Mrs. Flirt For Tips, informed us after we asked her that she could have taken our order if we had taken a seat at the bar. I doubt the service would have been any better considering she was occupied with the empty tea urns. How you own a BBQ restaurant in Montgomery and run out of tea before noon is simply inexcusable. No manager to be found, trash and food on the floor and a total Don't Give a F' attitude from the workers, except for Mrs. Flirt For Tips who's always busy working for those tips. My wife and I just had lunch. We spent an hour there and during this hour, not a single table was cleaned. In fact, we had to search for the most cleaned table out of all the tables and seating areas not already taken. There were about six numbers the restaurant uses to deliver your order were left on several tables. They were not crowded, so there is no excuse why they did not/could not clean the tables. If they do not clean tables and the counters in the front of the restaurant, what does this say about proper restaurant hygiene practices where they prepare food? It is November, flu season--hello! The food was good, I had the six rib plate with mac & cheese, and cornbread and my wife had pulled pork and chicken, mac & cheese, and potato salad. Price is slightly on the high side, but not outrageously high. Fountain drinks are plenty and good. At this point, my better judgement tell me not to return. At first look I thought, huuuum just another BBQ joint. I was very impressed with the food. The daily special was meat loaf, so more than just BBQ. Clean dining area and pleasant staff. This is a chain of bbq restaurants so if you are looking for the local spot, it really isn't it (although it was born in bama?). If you are looking for some really good food on the quick then, I strongly suggest this place. It is a nice compliment to the Cloverdale scene, and in my opinion, has some very good bbq options. Being a snowboarder I also liked seeing a pair of skis in the middle of the south. If you have your expectations right going in, you should not be disappointed. They also have lots of other options on the menu with tons of daily specials, and everything is good! The staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is great, with lots of TV's.
