I am a complete sucker for hand-pulled noodles and Mogoyuan offers some very satisfying lunch dishes for us during our visit in Toronto. We came by around 12:00 and luckily it wasn't too busy. The restaurant has limited seating so it's better to come with a party of 2-4 for optimal seating. We ordered the Vegetable Stir-Fried Noodles ($17) and Cold Sesame Noodles ($15) to share. Both were vegan friendly which made it perfect for our diet, and both dishes were fabulous. The stir-fry dish was just the right amount of spicy with tender vegetables that left a good numbing sensation in our mouthes. The sesame noodles were great and the perfect contrast with the spicy hot noodles. The noodles were devoured in no time and we left feeling vert satisfied. This place checked off all the boxes- fast, delicious and a great value! Mogouyan Hand-Pulled Noodles was just what we needed to refuel for more waking in Toronto. Upon walking in, we were promptly seated by the hostess. We were given menus and shortly thereafter, our order was taken. I opted for the Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce. This was the perfect dish. The noodle texture was bouncy and chewy. The Sesame Sauce was peanut based. There was also a second sauce at play at the bottom of the dish that mixed very well with the peanut sauce. There was also sliced picked carrots and cucumbers that added some crunch to the dish. The whole thing was just perfection, and I'm so glad I ordered it! To accompany my meal I also got their Passion Fruit non-caffeinated drink. This was a great compliment to the saltiness of the meal and provided some balance. It was served in a HUGE glass. I only got around to drinking about a sixth of it- so just know you get a lot of drink for your money. They also serve carafes of lemon water at the table, so you can stay hydrated as soon as you sit down. My guess is that most of the dishes are hot and spicy, so you'll probably need some extra water to quench your thirst. The space itself is small. It's long and narrow. But, when we went around dinner time, there were still plenty of spots. The price was excellent. For my husband and I to get two entrees and two drinks, it ran us about $34 USD- not bad for such a great deal- oh, and the portion was HUGE. It was either this or a katsu place, I'm happy that my friend chose this place because this was one of my favourites during my trip in Toronto. My husband and I were staying at the Four Seasons in Yorkville, so this place was just walking distance to us. Parking can be hard as it is downtown. The restaurant isn't big, it's very narrow and the tables are quite small. I wasn't able to take a picture of the food menu as I got busy catching up with an old friend. But we ordered: * Squid Tentacles -- very flavourful, a little chewy though. * Beef Spicy Skewers -- again, very flavourful. Super soft and so so delicious. This is a must try! * Mango Juice -- the name on the menu is pretty long but it's just mango juice. Really refreshing and not overly sweet! And it came in a huge glass! * Signature stir fried noodles -- OH MY GOSH. THE NOODLES ARE COOKED TO PERFECTION. I don't know the best way to describe this, but please order this when you go. I came by on a super rainy and cold day so I was craving some warm soup noodles. This location has a dining area towards the back of the restaurant and fits ~30 seats. I ordered a regular size braised beef noodle with regular noodles and mild spice. The texture of the noodles were bouncy and tasted hand made. The flavour of the broth was really heartwarming especially for a cold day. The beef seemed a bit mediocre to me as I think it could've used more seasoning. The concoction arrived a little while later and looked just about picture perfect. It tasted even better, somehow. The components on their own aren't really anything special, but once you mix everything together, the dish really sings. It's got these layers of flavor that keep revealing themselves the more you eat. The spice level wasn't quite where I wanted it, but that was easily corrected by a liberal application of the chili oil on the table. And as for those hand-pulled noodles, they're terrific. I promised that I would leave a review when I visited the last almost a year ago. It is a bit late, but here we go. To start with, this is a Halal Chinese restaurant, and therefore it might be of interest for Muslims. The noodles are truly hand-pulled even though it looks amazingly thin and uniform. The taste is very good and the workers there are willing to match your preference. So you should speak up on exactly what you want. The restaurant is clean and people are friendly. As for the quietness, it might have to depend on the number of people and groups. So I think the owners may not be able to control that. I ordered the garlic seashell scallops and a large size of their classic beef noodles with thick-round noodles. You can choose the thickness and roundness/flatness of the noodles among 5 different levels. The flavor was there for both dishes but they were also a tad-bit too salty for my liking, especially the scallops. The garlic paste they put on top overpowered the scallop and the vermicelli with too much salt. The classic beef noodles were significantly better in comparison in terms of saltiness but the beef itself weren't full pieces. There were a few on top that were whole pieces but the majority were bits and pieces that seemed overly shredded. It was hard to eat. But the noodles were great, I wish I'd gotten a flatter less thick noodle but I loved the flavoring of the noodles with the broth. It was balanced and didn't feel like it was too much. They also offered a pair of scissors to cut the noodles because they were pretty long. The portions are also very large in portion when I ordered the large. Overall, I think my rating is mostly because I didn't like what I ordered and if I had ordered differently, my rating for this location would have been higher. I saw great reviews on Yelp so I wanted to check this place for lunch. I think I saw some reviews saying they had lunch specials, but this location unfortunately does not. It was relatively empty when I went, and the server was quick to show me to my seat and take my order. Mogouyan is a solid pick if you're looking for a cheap sit-down eat near Yonge and Bloor. The noodles are hand-pulled - if you peek into their window from the outside, you'll see them being pulled before your eyes. My server and the table beside me both recommended either the Mogouyan Beef Noodle Bowl or the Dan Dan Noodles. I tried the former and found it to be pretty decent. While I enjoyed this meal, I would say that you'll get more flavour from a similar dish by getting a bowl of ramen, though Mogouyan still does the trick. read more
