Extremely Disappointing Experience. I honestly don't know how a dealership can make buying a vehicle this unnecessarily difficult, but this dealership managed to do exactly that. I had an appointment to look at a specific vehicle. You would think the vehicle would be ready when I arrived, but it wasn't. I spent an excessive amount of time waiting and dealing with unnecessary back-and-forth just to get to the point of test-driving it. What concerns me most is that I was allowed to test-drive a vehicle that the dealership later told me needed brakes before it could be delivered/certified. How does a dealership allow a customer--and my service dog--to get into and drive a vehicle that apparently wasn't ready or safe to be driven? That's not simply poor organization; that's a serious safety concern. Once we started discussing the purchase, I repeatedly asked for two simple numbers: what would you give me for my trade-in and what was the price of the vehicle? Instead, there was endless discussion about monthly payments when that wasn't what I was asking for. Then came the trade-in appraisal. This same dealership had previously serviced my truck. In December, they physically replaced the front brakes and specifically told me the rear brakes were good. Then in April, I brought the truck in for inspection and was told the rear brakes were so bad that they would not let me leave with my own truck. Then, during the trade-in appraisal, I was told they could only give me a certain amount because my truck needed brakes. I have a very serious question: How can the dealership replace my front brakes, tell me the rear brakes are good, and then months later tell me the rear brakes are so bad I can't drive away--only to then use the condition of those brakes against me when valuing my trade? I was understandably frustrated and questioned this. The salesperson then asked if I wanted the vehicle that day. I said yes. More than four hours later, I was finally told that the vehicle wasn't actually ready and still needed brakes and certification for CarBravo. I had my service dog with me through this entire ordeal. We agreed I would return the following day to pick it up. I drove an hour back to the dealership, only to wait approximately 20 minutes before someone from finance came over confused about why I was there. I was then told the vehicle wasn't ready and apparently was never supposed to be ready. I had to explain three times how the salesperson and I had arranged the pickup. At that point, I walked out, told them how unprofessional this was, and said I wasn't sure I even wanted the vehicle anymore. A manager called the next day. Unfortunately, that conversation made things worse. She sounded annoyed and irritated with me almost from the beginning and treated my concerns as though they were an inconvenience. When I explained the history of the brakes and the amount I had been quoted for my trade, I felt as though I was being treated like I was lying. I specifically told her I had initialed paperwork showing the trade-in amount, yet I was essentially told they could only do another $500. Despite all of this, we eventually agreed on a price and the vehicle was delivered to my home. Then the screen needed to be replaced. About a week later, the brakes on the vehicle began squealing when coming to a slow stop. I contacted the salesperson and sent a picture showing the vehicle reporting approximately 72% brake life remaining, explaining that there was no reasonable way I had used nearly 30% of the brakes in one week. I recently returned to the dealership for the replacement screen and to address the brake concern. They replaced the screen. They said nothing about the brakes. After everything that had already happened surrounding brakes, I find that completely unacceptable. The biggest problem isn't that one thing went wrong. Things happen. The problem is the pattern: poor communication, lack of organization, conflicting information, wasted time, dismissive management, and lack of follow-through. I spent hours at the dealership unnecessarily, drove an hour back for a vehicle that wasn't ready, had to repeatedly explain agreements made with their own employees, was made to feel like I was lying about information I had documentation for, and now have a brake concern that still hasn't been addressed. I specifically chose a traditional dealership after having a much simpler experience with Carvana. This experience reminded me exactly why. Get everything in writing, verify every number, and don't assume one employee's agreement will be communicated to the next. For me, this was one of the most frustrating vehicle-buying experiences I've ever had. 0/5 stars. I would not recommend this dealership. read more

Apparently we weren't important enough to receive attention after advising them of what we needed, because we were left sitting around for 45 minutes. Don't even know where to start, they 'fixed' our Transmission a few years back & gave us a 3 year warranty on it, (which is standard on a Trany) that they are now saying they didn't. We have asked numerous times for our Service records & receipts be emailed to us & they have not emailed them to us. We have asked to speak to the manager for weeks & have not received a call back yet. I even left a few voicemails. Very unpleased with them. Let me preface this critique by saying Derek and Pedro were a joy to work with. There is no reason to wait 5 hours at a dealership to seal the deal. I left my belongings in my vehicle the day I got my car. I was so anxious to leave that I completely forgot about my things. Your dealership is 30 minutes from where I live and work I called as soon as I got home. Explained the reason and advised them I would be there mid morning on my way to work to get my things. I would appreciate having my car there. Well that didn't happen. Then to add insult to injury, my request was passed down. "Let me get someone to help you" REALLY? why can't you help me? Finally,after a HALF HOUR, a young man, finds my key and then has the AUDACITY to tell me he was going to find someone to help me find my car. At that point, my politeness vanished. CUSTOMER APPRECIATION. He obviously does not know how to deal with customers him self, so I guess that is why his TEAM doesn't either. They had the car in there possession for 6 weeks, with lack of customer service I decided to sell the back to them. I was offered 4k less for car due to the depreciation. FOUR DAYS OWNING AND DRIVING IT. I was waiting until the engine was replaced but I ENDURE there lack business ethics, and it caused me stress and aggravation and I still was with out a car. I decided to sell it back to them. That was 2 days ago They had the car for a total of 6 week. When I asked to remove my things from the vehicle they said they bring it to me. Imagine my surprise to know the engine was replaced and the was fixed. They never contacted about that. I found that out when I retrieved my things. While I was grabbing my things they were slapping windowstickers on the vehicle for resale. I left, then I realized one license plate was still on the vehicle. And the paperwork they gave me for the sales tax wasn't in the vehicle. So I asked them to send it to me. The sent someone to drop it off and gave me a my sales tax paper. They gave me nothing showing that the vehicle was mine, no warranty paperwork, nothing.... This has been the worst experience I ever had. I hope everone stays far away from Mohawk Chevrolet of Ballston Spa NY. They were done with the vehicle the day the casino bought it. I bought a used Toyota Prius in December from a salesperson who no longer works there. Now in April, after the lemon law period ran out, a tow hook and the wheel well cover have fallen off the car. Seems like the service department is slapping cosmetic repairs on that will last just long enough that they don't have to fix them under state law. Buyers beware!!!. I will give kudos to the level of attention I received from the salesman (Nate) as I negotiated to trade my vehicle (plus cash) for a used vehicle they had listed for sale. I'm from out of state (CT) and before I took the 3 hour journey, I wanted to ensure the trade-in and price point was going to be worth the ride to the dealership. We negotiated and confirmed a reasonable price point (I just wanted a fair deal) and they even took a $500 deposit once we confirmed. They sent paperwork outlining all the figures. I was excited. With cash and trade in hand, I arrived and was professionally greeted by Nate (FYI-nice looking dealership). I test drove the vehicle and was looking forward to closing the deal...my expectations were being met! They looked over my vehicle (which was in decent condition as noted and previously discussed) when I was told they needed $3,000 more than we negotiated. My trade wasn't worth what they originally told me it was...WTF. Not only was I devastated (I loved the vehicle I was going to buy), I was also disappointed and somewhat pissed (though I remained professional). I offered to negotiate somewhere in the middle of their "new" price point and they didn't budge at all. (That's just not good business practice). I will say they remained professional and "apologetic"....which was likely their plan all along. They also validated my hesitance and reluctance about car shopping. They "hooked me" to get me there... and then tagged on more money thinking I wouldn't walk...WHAT A WASTE OF MY TIME! Lesson: Be prepared to walk if they don't honor their own agreement....and are unwilling to negotiate. It's a sign of poor character and will likely reveal other flaws down the road. I walked away from the deal on principle. Lesson: Check out these types of reviews...you will see a pattern emerge. I didn't do that...shame on me. I wonder how many other people they have tried to scam....? From what some of the other negative experiences here have been, this sale falling through was likely a good omen. I hope the dealership owner reads these reviews... He can easily fact check my story... It also appears as though they have a "canned" response for any negative reviews...check for yourself. Terrible terrible terrible sales service. My husband bought a new 2020 Silverado and requested a roll-up tonneau cover. It was a rushed delivery job because of rain and when he got home he discovered it was a fold-up. Immediately contacted them. Nothing. Days later contacted them. Nothing. Next week nothing. I contact them and say I am interested in a 50K Traverse and they immediately respond, "come on in!" I tell them I will if they can make it right with husband. They said come in, test drive and while you are here we will work on making it right with him. I said I will come in after you make it right. Then the silence again. Nothing. A week later I message them. Nothing. Finally a month after purchase my husband gets a message from the Manager that there is nothing they can do. I respond that they would give up a sale on something they could have fixed to make a customer happy? No response. Go to them if you like terrible service and being ignored. If you want a car in a day or two, be prepared to wait four or five as they change the oil, have the car sent to KIA to get recalls fixed, wait for new tires to come in on Saturday but don't until Thursday, change those tires, and then sit for two hours on paperwork/waiting for them to get it together. And then literally the day you drive home, you notice the chip in the windshield and proceed to call four times in five hours just to get someone to help you. I have to wait until tomorrow to talk to anyone because NO ONE RETURNS CALLS. They are disorganized and no one communicates. I had already handed over my title to my trade-in car and had insurance cards sent to the dealership on Friday. Couldn't get the car Monday, since it was at KIA. Wednesday comes, and it's supposedly going to be ready around 6. I have work then so we arrange for the next morning at 10. They called and said it won't be ready until 3. I get there then, and still had to wait for my insurance agent to send over my cards again and they couldn't find my title. Had to wait for them to fill the gas, which should have been done before I got there. A LOT of things should have been done before I or anyone wanted that car. Reached out to the dealership on a Sunday...provided a couple of vin numbers for a car I was interested in buying. I scheduled an appointment with sales for the following Saturday. When i got to the appointment the sales person didn't know anything about the information about the cars I was interested in. Eventually they said that they would trade a truck for the car. I gave them a $2000 deposit. On the following Tuesday I received a voicemail message that they would pick up my car on Thursday and they would reach out to me when ready. I called them on Monday for an update and received a voicemail that there wasn't a car within a 400 mile radius and they would mail my deposit back to me. Brought my Suburban in for service and was told it needed a transmission. They said it would be two weeks to receive the replacement transmission. I received a call the next morning stating when they went to bring my vehicle in to start the repair the battery was dead. What happened to the two weeks? They called me 75 minutes later and said all repairs were done and I could pick up the Suburban. There is no way possible you can replace a transmission in 75 minutes. I would give zero stars if I could. Do Not buy your vehicle from here!!! 4 months into having mine numerous electrical problems started happening. In the last four months I have had to have the battery replaced along with the motor in the back windshield wiper and the harness in the shifter. The display read steering assist reduced drive with care and they returned the car to me saying they didn't know why. I had to have the radiator replaced because it had leaks in it, the heat won't work until you get to 77 degrees and only works for a short period of time at that temp, the heated seats turn themselves down to the lowest level right after being turned on and the radio will randomly not allow you to turn it off or adjust the volume up or down. Every time I brought it in for repairs was a nightmare. There is no communication between employees and departments and they leave you sitting there for hours just to tell you they don't have the part. The general manager will assure you that he will handle things and then you will never hear from him again. This was a certified pre owned vehicle with only 30,000 miles on it. I have attempted several times to get them to do the right thing and put me in a safe vehicle but they refuse. If you want your family to be in a safe, reliable vehicle trust me and go somewhere else. read more

Brought in a 2018 Corvette for a 7500 mile service, malfunctioning taillight/turn signal, and magnetic ride control upgrade. Had a voicemail that the car was good to pick up. When I got there, the only thing that had been done was an oil change. Tires weren't rotated nor any of the other items of a 7500 mile service that I could tell, they could not find the suspension upgrade in the system, and they were "unable to replicate taillight issue" and I was told "maybe it was just water in the taillight" (??). The taillight issue was immediately replicated when I started the car, so it was clear it was never looked at. All I was told was that I can just schedule another appointment if I'd like. Overall, very poor experience compared to any other dealership I've been to. read more

My 2006 Buick LaCrosse stalled four times driving just a couple of blocks. Battery would not charge or accept a jump. Car had to be towed in to Northstar (where I purchased it). Their mechanics determined that the wiring to the ECM had several breaks, and a crushed connector. They repaired the wiring and connector - battery now charges fine. Including a $95 fee for a tow from Cohoes to Northstar, the repair bill came to about $410 for diagnosis, wire and connector repair. Car now runs fine. Service Manager was courteous and helpful, and go the repair done in one day. read more

Ill begin with the fact that in the 2 hours that I was being held hostage on the sales deal, I saw roughly 20 people walk in and out the door and not one time did any employee wipe that door down. We put down our $100 deposit to hold the truck until Friday (this was Tuesday) giving them time to put the running boards on it. I was told that my employer discount was $2500 when in fact, the dealership that I did buy the truck told me it was $3500! Okay, so Friday comes and we're excited about our new truck, I had printed out the insurance card and was all ready to go.....then there's the phone call. "Im so very sorry but there was a mixup and the truck you want was sold to someone else" Wait, WHAT?? He then says that they're trying to get it back and if we cant make this happen, they'll send someone to the house to finish the deal on Saturday. A bit deflated.....okay, we'll wait. No further updates on Friday. Most of Saturday comes and goes when we finally call them back. Problem still not solved, but we have another truck just like it, here's the VIN number for your insurance card. No further communication until Monday morning when he calls back and says the replacement truck is gone as well, doesnt know when he'll be able to get us into the truck we want. We had already made an appointment with the other dealership on Saturday. Called them back Monday evening after the new dealership gave us everything we wanted and much much more so I can get my $100 deposit back. Call back on Tuesday afternoon to say the $100 will be back in my bank account today. Its 1:30 pm.....almost 24 hours after he said the money would be in my account. It is not! This place does not have their act together and the salesman, in my opinion did not feel the need to put forth much effort into making sure his customers were satisfied. I had to get my car photo inspected for insurance. I looked up the sites available and your dealership came up. I saw the hours said you opened for 7:00 am. I went there and a nice gentleman told me that area opened at 8:00 am. No big deal. I left and came back at 8:00 and spoke to a gentleman ( who was not so nice) No greeting or anything. I told him I needed a photo inspection and he said " do you have an appointment" which I told him no. He look at some sheet of paper and said "she is not here yet if you want to wait". Which I did. The woman came in. Again no greeting. The gentleman told her that I was here for a photo inspection. She said "you don't have an appointment?" Which I answered no-it was not clear on the website that I needed one. She said " I told them they needed to make that clear in the website." She then filled out a paper and took some photos. A total of 5 minutes. She seemed very irritated by this. What a terrible customer service attitude. I could understand if people were lined up out the door and I was trying to get in front of them but there was nothing going on. Those two clearly do not enjoy their job. If zero stars were an option, I would give it. I bought my used car here on July 25. Less than two weeks later, there was an issue with my emergency brake not turning off and a fault appearing on the dashboard. My car got towed here, on a Friday, as it was under the 30 day warranty. My car did not get looked at until the following Monday...no big deal. They order the part, it comes in and they realize upon further inspection that another part also needs to be replaced. Well that part comes in a few days later and they got sent "the wrong part." So, they order another one. This one comes back and they claim my car needs to be recalibrated but they can do it themselves. Well, that was false. They had to send my car to Gil's Garage, who further told them the new part they just installed was actually defective. Oh and by the way, I only found out all of this information because I had to be the one to keep calling and asking for an update every single day. My car was sent back to the dealership for the new part to be installed and I was never notified of any of this in the process. I had to call Gil's Garage and Mohawk Chevrolet. I was promised my car back on THREE different occasions. They have now had my car for 12 days and the issue is still not fixed. Absolutely atrocious customer service and reliability. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I most definitely would! My entire experience was absolutely disgusting! It started on a Saturday, I test drove the vehicle I have had my eye on for months and I loved it! Sat down with sales rep Matthew Marcil, worked out the numbers and discussed my concerns. We agreed upon $1,000 down and $500 monthly payments. Matt went to his finance manager multiple times during the hour plus that I was in the dealership. I was told I could pick up my new vehicle in a few days and that someone would be in touch with me on Monday. As soon as I walked out the door, I received a call from Rob Newton in finance telling me they are unable to approve me as my negative equity is too high and asked if I would like a brand new vehicle instead (how this is supposed to make sense, I'm not entirely sure.) So i reached back out to Matt via email (twice) and both emails went ignored. Monday came and went and I never received the phone call I was promised on Saturday. First thing this (Tuesday) morning I sent Matt an email with copy to two managers and finally received a response. I was then given another finance person to deal with, James Desentis, who goes on to tell me I need $2,500 down. I explained that was preposterous and that $1,000 was the agreed amount when the deal was made on Saturday. I spent from 10:15AM to 3:00PMfighting with managers and finance reps only for them to call me and tell me I needed more money down and that my payments would be $630 a month. General Sales Manager Katie Duncan has since tried to give me more money ($500) for my trade in as they are apologizing for 'the confusion" and wasting my time.. as there was no disclosure that I was not yet approved when I walked out their door. Matthew Marcil, Robert Newton, Katie Duncan and James Desentis are four of THE worst sales reps I have dealt with, and I have never had such trouble getting into a used vehicle.. Very dissatisfied....with Chevrolet and Northstar. My car had 3 safety recalls. First repair, they tried to sell me a repair on an unrelated item even after I told them to perform the repair only and not perform any other checks or evaluations. Offered to fix it for $130 and I declined. (Took the car subsequently to my regular mechanic and he said the repair was not necessary.) Second recall went OK. On 3rd recall, I called to make sure parts were available and made an appointment. Dropped car off and got a call back several hours later in the day saying the part was not in stock, and asked if I had made an appointment or just dropped off the car. Now I have to wait for a part again and tie up my car yet another day (that will make 4 days total by the time all recalls are fixed.) Very poor service. read more

I bought a Chevy Cruze from this dealership and had my car serviced by them for many years because they had a program called tires for life, where you could get up to two sets of complimentary replacement tires for you car if you had all your regularly scheduled maintenance done at the dealership. After my last service appointment, I was told that they had ordered me replacement tires. I called today to inquire about my replacement tires and was informed that the new owners of the dealership were not honoring the program. The service department always seemed a bit mediocre, but I keep going there for the promise of free tires. Without that promotion, I probably would have found another place to service my car. Since the new ownership does not not believe in honoring the commitments of the business they bought, I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

Do not go to Northstar for service. I went just to have two remote fobs programmed for my Chevy HHR. Quoted $50 over the phone. Gave them my working fob and the two fobs that needed programming. I told them there was an error message on the one that was working but it did not seem to affect the use of it. I also told Craig I had two new batteries in case the unprogrammed fobs had dead batteries (they were sitting on my counter for over a year). Waited for over an hour and was told they couldn't program the fobs. Also told they couldn't fix the error message. I NEVER asked them to fix the error message. I went home and pulled the batteries out of the two new fobs - they were BOTH dead. I drove 21 miles each direction and paid $50.91 for nothing. You can't program a fob that has a dead battery. They didn't ask me for the batteries so I thought the ones in them must have been okay. On top of all that, I realized they had lost a connector from my working key fob/key that was on a ring. I have a main key ring that all my different vehicles used to connect to. I can't attach the Chevy HHR key any more because Northstar lost the connector. I talked to Kayla and sent a photo of a different key with the same connector so they could at least look for it. And also voiced my anger that they had not used the batteries I brought and could not have even gotten a signal from the fobs. She said she would get back to me. Two weeks later I called again since no one responded. Kayla told a service rep that a person named Don had said they weren't going to do anything about my complaint and the lost connector. No one even had the common decency to email or call me back. What a bunch of incompetent jerks. I filed a BBB complaint and I hope everyone else who has had a negative experience with this service department does the same. I'll never recommend them and they certainly will not be considered next year when we buy a new Chevy vehicle to replace the HHR. read more

I made an appointment with with a specific sales associate to see a truck. I was scheduled for Wednesday. I arrived, on time, and was told that he was off on Wednesdays and was directed by a manager named Mike (who also made the appointment with me via phone) to another sales associate. I am a loyal person and customer and felt bad for the sales associate I have worked with for years there at Northstar and elsewhere. There seems to be a level of unprofessionalism there lately. From an outside perspective, it seems to be mostly a management issue. What has become of Northstar Chevrolet? I have spoke to many customers who also agree that something is amiss there. It used to be a pleasant place to buy a car. There used to be no gimmick or pressure like there is at many other dealerships. Just an observation. read more
