Sometimes I call with a stray I've taken in, an animal coming from a bad situation, or a pet that simply needs help sooner rather than later. He knows the work I do, and somehow he always finds a way to fit them in. Dr Lubana never tries to upsell me on things I don't need and he's honest about options when money is tight. He's been there for so many rescue animals over the years, as well as my own senior pets, and that means more to me than I can put into words. Finding a veterinarian you trust completely is rare, and I'm incredibly grateful for him.

I took my small dog in for a check up and prescription renewal. Blood need to be extracted to check on the level of current medication in her system. It was difficult to get enough blood for the test, so the vet asked me to leave her for a couple of hours so the blood could be extracted. I agreed, with the understanding that they were only going to extract blood and test for level of current meds in her system. When I returned to pick up my dog, I found out that the vet had done a litany of unauthorized, unnecessary tests. My dog is officially 18 years old but possibly as old as 20 or 22 years old. She has no need for any of those tests. I just want to keep her comfortable until she is ready to go to sleep. The bill was for several hundred dollars. This money was slated for my monthly living expenses and it left me broke. I feel that I was taken advantage of because of the fact that I am a senior citizen. Others should watch out for this practice of unnecessary, unauthorized tests at this clinic.

Fast forward a year or so...I come back from Calgary with my dog, my cat and a new puppy who was un-neutered. So I took him there. It was reasonable as I got him chipped at the same time. That summer my original dog had a growth on his lower groin area...I thought it could be a tick because it was kinda long with a black crusty black top. He was also limping slightly on his hind rear leg. One of the assistants there yet again took him away from me down the long hallway. She came back literally two minutes later and told me that the growth was just his nipple. She suggested that I come back to see their specialist because she thought that he had a torn crutiate ligament. So we went back and met a lovely older french surgeon who spent allot of time with us explaining all there is about his ligament. Because my dog is part bulldog he was going to cut one of his bones and then re-attach it, using flesh like ropes...(or something like this). The entire thing would cost $2000.00 plus HST. Speaking with my parents (whose dog just had the same surgery) and they told me to go and see their vet. So I did. She ended up charging me $1200 plus HST. I told them what the other specialist had suggested and I got a very funny look. They obviously did not want to comment on a competitor. When I took my dog to get his stitches out, I had noticed that the "nipple" had gotten suspiciously larger, so I asked my new vet to take a look. She said "uhm...this is not a nipple, due to the fact that there is a nipple both right in front and behind this thing. It is a growth" She then stuck a needle into it, took a biopsy (?) and looked in the microscope. She showed me what she saw. Oh, by the way, I was in the room with my dog when all of this happened. It was a cancerous growth that I had removed for $350 that day. Being quite upset that it had been diagnosed as a NIPPLE, I was slightly freaking out in the waiting room while they cut if off my dog. One of the secretary's slipped me a piece of paper with CVA on it. I still have yet to file a complaint with them but perhaps this will be good enough. When I got home I called Dr. Burns office and asked to speak to the woman who had made the diagnosis. She was not there. So I proceeded to tell the woman on the phone what happened. Se expressed shock and dismay and said that the woman in question was not supposed to make those kinds of decisions. She said that she would speak with the Doctor about this. I never got a phone call back. In my 3-4 years going there I NEVER ONCE SAW THE DOCTOR HIMSELF. I think that should say it all.

From the receptionists, the technicians/ care staff to the veterinarians, they do what's best for your pet. Owning a pet is a privilege that comes with important responsibilities. Spay and neutering, vaccines, Feeding nutritious food, and regular flea and tick prevention, all these are so important and I didn't realize until they explained everything so throughly to me. I've been going here for a few years now and have nothing but good things to say. It's very unfortunate that some people would give a different review, but I guess that's because they obviously don't understand how to care for a pet properly. Yes, spay/ neuter is somewhat expensive, but it should be budgeted and is a one time cost. Vaccines are once yearly! (Or sometimes every 3 years!) Flea and tick prevention is once monthly regardless of indoor/outdoor pets (you can bring critters in on your shoes!) All these costs are no different then adding up the costs of you buying a coffee once a day, or a pack of cigarettes, a case of beer, a bottle of wine!? Like I said, owning a pet is a privilege, if you cannot understand basic care then go somewhere else or don't own a pet! These people can explain all this to you (and very pleasantly I may add!) Thank you for all you do loyalist vet!

Heres my latest story... I have had my Yellow Lab for 10 years. Bought every item for his care, his food and all my grooming from Pet Smart. In the last 2 years they have been out of his food several times. ( It had become an issue) I Recently booked a grooming appointment over the phone for the next day. They asked for vaccination info which I could not provide. I did provide them with the vets contact that I have used for 25 years. (They chose not to call) I had an important meeting that was booked months in advance for the next day. I decided to drop off the dog on the way to my appointment. When I arrived I was greeted and asked if I had brought my vaccination report. I reminded them of our phone call the day prior and asked them if they had called. They had not. It was now and issue and I did not have time to return my dog home. They then called the vet while I stood there to find out the vaccination expired 2 days prior. I expressed my extreme displeasure to the attendant and the manager and again explained that I didn't have time for what was going on. As I was walking out the door the manager said they would "let it slide this time". After all the grief I explained that I wouldn't be back and would tell everyone that cared about my experience. All they had to do was call my vet (when I called) as was done many times in the last 10 years. Their inefficiency and lack of respect for my time and was more grief than anyone should have to endure to wash a dog.

After my dogs surgery, he was badly matted because under the direction of the vet, he could not stand long enough to get groomed and to wait for a couple months. He is a double coated dog and I understand it takes a lot of work to brush him out but to be told the next time that they would not take him because we were a month longer than what she wanted, I was told she was cancelling any further scheduling. I started using this groomer for my small breed hair coat dog when it first started up and the groomers did a great job and treated my dog well. Recently there has been posts of how they feel dog owners are abusing their dogs when they come in with matted hair/fur. Now, there are times when this could be so, but most dog owners will seek help with such situations. The other problem is that many groomers are so busy that it's hard to get an appointment that one can commit to, especially if there are only two days in the week one has to get a groom. This can lead to a little longer than usual time between grooms. So, recently when I was finally able to get my dog in for a groom, I had a big surprise when I arrived for the pick-up. The groomer was quick to say that my dog was abused because there was matting in the coat. This happened after I paid for the service that cost $70 plus tax, which included an extra cost for the matted hair. Then the groomer shoved her phone in my face trying to show me pictures of the alleged matting and was down-right rude to me. I know there may have been a little bit of matting, but not so severe as what was being said, since I regularly rush my dog to help keep the coat from matting. The way in which the groomer decided to confront me was very unprofessional and aggressive. I would have taken it if I was no taking care of my dog. But, this is not the case. My past experience with groomers is that if my dog had matting the groomer would kindly educate me with techniques on how to prevent matting, not accuse me of abusing my dog and overcharging me. Also, I've never had a groomer send pics to my social media of alleged matting, then block me so I could not respond. In short, my dogs groom was the length I asked it to be, and the ears and nose area of my dog's hair was cut uneven and looks bad. Between the abuse by the groomer and the bad trim, I will not be returning to this groomer.
