We recently had our home inspected for mold (in the Bay Area) by Murphy , and I was very impressed with the service we received. He was extremely thorough, took the time to inspect the entire house carefully, and explained everything clearly throughout the process. He also collected multiple samples to make sure we had accurate information and peace of mind. I really appreciated his professionalism, attention to detail, and how patient he was with all of our questions. I would definitely recommend him to anyone needing a mold inspection done. i did not use their services, so my review is based on the customer service i received. I was describing my situation to the rep, and he went into every worse case scenario, which really freaked me out. Told me i may need to give away my dog, which was not even applicable to what was going on. I have been told a lot of mold places will do this, so they can get business, which is not cool. I've worked with three different mold inspectors in my lifetime (unfortunately) and Mold Inspection Sciences was by far the worst. My house tested high for mycotoxins using a HERTSMI-2 dust sample (which is the gold standard for identifying a problem house), however I needed an inspector to localize the source. Their upfront price seemed very reasonable with individual charges per test and extra for remediation protocol. Overall, it ended up being way more expensive than their competitors. Which would be fine if it was a good inspection, but it was absolutely not. The inspector was very young and clearly new at the game. She missed two very obvious major spots, one was a green discolored missing grout in a shower obvious spot. She entirely skipped a small room off the bedroom. Instead she is pointing out places with mildew, which have no impact on health. They were also trying to upsell me on qPCR air sampling, which would have been another $2000+ and give no more information than the $130 HERTSMI-2 test. Because I mentioned that I'm dealing with CIRS, they charged even more for the report, which had no useful information outside of what you can read online. MIS had no way to perform cavity samples in the wall which is ridiculous to me. I later hired a new inspector with a mold dog, and the dog quickly zeroed in on two problem areas which were completely skipped by MIS and had cavity samples performed confirming mold. Had I followed MIS instructions based on their air sample only, I would have ripped out a brand new vanity (which I told them should not have a problem) and completely missed the obvious moldy bathtub 5 feet away. Update: MIS reached out and provided an updated protocol containing the mold areas that they missed. While this was appreciated, it still does not change the fact they did a sub-par inspection job. In fact, when reaching out to mold remediation companies to resolve the issues based on their report, one remediation company refused to work with MIS protocols, but they would not tell me why. I think I know why based on my experience with them. read more

This company provides a lot of useful information over the phone, their inspection and their reports are very thorough, and their willingness to explain why whatever they are recommending is so important, as well as the next steps really helped us to plan and budget accordingly. The only thing I found a bit discouraging is that they offer to write a Mold Remediation Protocol for the company that will do the remediation project (which is absolutely necessary for my opinion) but they charge approximately 1/2 of the total cost of the inspection they have already performed. I could not recommend this company enough. As a renter, I found mold in my home and my negligent landlord refused to address the situation and has consistently denied the presence of mold. To ensure our safety, my roommate and I decided to hire an inspector to evaluate the home. Before scheduling our service, I spent 15 minutes on the phone with George who was incredibly knowledgable, kind, and understanding of our situation. He took great care answering my many questions in advance of our service. He was also able to book an expedited service. Hardy was the inspector who came to conduct our service. He was friendly, thoughtful, and also took great care of our home. He has a wonderful sense of humor which calmed our nerves and allowed us to trust his process and recommendations regarding testing. He heard our concerns and was able to guide us into making the best decision regarding testing and I am glad to have trusted him. He also discovered additional mold that we had not found ourselves - he was very thorough! Tracy was the project manager that we spoke with to discuss findings, results, and reporting. He was also very friendly, incredibly knowledgable, and understanding. He offered to speak with our landlords regarding the findings as well, which we were very appreciative of. So let me start off with the good. The technician who came out was friendly, very knowledgeable, and even a few minutes early. Report was returned in quoted time. Short and sweet: was quoted a price that completely missed the the majority of the cost, and then they tried to sell me on something I didn't need. Extremely disappointed. Very questionable business practices. Would never do business with again. Read on for the full story. My main complaint is the business tactics this company uses. I was told by the salesperson on the phone that there would be an upfront cost, and then a per sample cost. I was told I would need at least one sample and possibly another. When the technician came he told me that they couldn't do a proper report without an indoor and outdoor sample, so plan on paying for 2 samples at the least. Technician also took a sample of what was obviously mold, and it didn't occur to me that I'd be charged for something I could see with my own eyes. I knew I had mold in this area because I have been having a mold allergy and could physically see it in a spot where water used to come into the house. I was a little disappointed when I got the report, as it had nothing resembling a recommendation on it. So I readily admit that through either ignorance of the process or naivety on my part, I expected to get some sort of plan for the $1000 bucks I paid (I had 3 additional samples taken across my house just to be safe). So I called Mold Inspection Sciences to see what the next step was, and they informed me that a plan to send to the remediation company would be an additional $895! I asked why the salesperson had neglected to mention this in our conversation (considering this will be double, or in my case equal to the price of testing), and the gentleman on the phone responded "the salespeople just don't know how things work". I'm no business manager, but maybe y'all should teach the salespeople how things work? I was rather disgusted with the exchange and decided to shop around for the plan since my initial budget had just been blown out of the water. I had a remediation company come out and take a look at everything. The kicker is that when they looked at my mold report, and informed me the mold quantities they saw were negligible and did NOT need remediation. Mold inspection services was going to charge me close to a grand for something I didn't need. Probably the most telling thing is that when I was talking to the technician about what felt like a bait and witch, he just rolled his eyes and said that he's seen a lot of that with MIS. If you decide to do business with them, they'll probably do a good job and get you what you need. Just make sure and get up front prices on the entire process. read more

If I could give them negative 5 stars, I would. Worst experience ever. They don't tell you up front that they will charge you $500 for a protocol necessary to give to a remediator. Then they don't call you back to get the protocol and when they do they say it will take 3-5 business days while you have mold growing in your home and it can't be remediated until they get you that protocol. My family and I are quarantined due to the Pandemic (like everyone right now) and found some mold in our bathroom - this is pretty bad, cause all we're supposed to be doing is staying home but what do you do if your home becomes unsafe?? We called up Mold Inspection Sciences and they were able to come out within the week. At first we had a mixup about which day the appointment was for, and they showed up a day early - not a big deal. The next day Eija showed up to inspect our home and she was professional, informative and very friendly! Our dog loved her, which told me everything I need to know. MSI is by far the most superior mold inspection company in Austin. I have spoken to many people and everyone kept referring me to MSI. MSI explains which molds are harmful and how you can best get rid of them. They also provide remediator resources that are vetted which gives reassurance to its customers. Thanks to the help from Rick, Tracy, and Joshua I am hopeful that my life can now be mold free!! I have been sick for over two years and MSI proved that my apartment was loaded with toxic mold. Everyone that I spoke to at MSI was so kind and reassuring even when I was having meltdowns about the toxic mold in my apartment. He took care to get the inspection done as soon as possible even with some delays from the tenant. When I needed them to go back and make sure one of the rooms was tested he had it done without delay. The report was extensive and detailed, letting me know what should be done. MOLD INSPECTION OF TEXAS ARE CROOKS is sadly the most accurate description I can use. I paid them $400 to inspect the property, make tests and write a report. When I contracted with them, I specifically asked them if I could use their report to hire a contractor to perform the required mold remediation and they assured me an affirmative YES. They emailed me the BASIC (say nothing) report and then they Immediately called me to INFORM ME that I would need to pay them an additional $500 for a ANOTHER MORE DETAILED REPORT that l would need to give to the contractors to perform the work. I believe this is what people refer to as BAIT and SWITCH. Do yourself a favor and call somebody else. ps: This is the very first time I have written a comment. Ever! It has been very difficult for my mother to find trustworthy, reliable, competent, and efficient service for her Lake Travis vacation home. She has to drive from Houston every time she sets up appointments. More often than not, service providers are late, don't show up, or require multiple visits to complete the job. That was not the case with Mold Inspection Sciences of Texas. Steve not only showed up on time, but was thorough and efficient with his work. I'm sorry to write this review because they have been very nice to work with, until last Friday. I called them 2 weeks ago because we had found growth on the outsides of our air vents downstairs (in a brand new house). I had also smelled a strong mildew smell in the master bathroom, which I mentioned to the inspector. I specifically asked them if they would write up a report that I could give to mold remediation companies. They said yes. The inspector was very nice, spent about 3 hours going through the whole house, and told me that he had found growth inside and outside the vents, and on parts of the AC unit. He suggested the AC unit was our problem. Then he asked if I wanted a protocol (their report), and I said of course. He asks for another $400. Supposedly their protocol is a separate charge from their inspection (which is also about $400-500), and this was not indicated on their website or the phone call when the question about the protocol was asked. So I told them that that was not communicated to me, and I had been expecting the protocol to be included in the price. Had I known I would be paying $800 for an inspection and report, I would not have hired this company. So the inspector was very accommodating, called his boss, and agreed not to charge me for the protocol (also because our problems are minor). I really appreciated that. He verbally told me, and I received an email, saying that I would get the protocol by Friday at the latest. It is now Monday, and no protocol. I have called them twice this morning, and left a message. The man who answered the phone said his "hands are tied," he "cannot get a hold of any of the project managers," and keeps transferring me to various voicemails. I have 3 mold remediation companies waiting for me to email them the protocol so that they can give me estimates, before we leave for vacation in 2 days. Now I feel that because of their miscommunication, they are considering me a low priority because I did not pay for their protocol. As a customer, I find this unacceptable that they are not keeping their word. Also, the mildew smell in the master bathroom? He didn't check the cabinets under the sinks, because their is a clear leak and water damage that I found yesterday. We do have young children and have a childproof lock on the cabinets, but all he needed to do was ask for the key. Out of blue I got phone call from Tina with angry, raised voice. I didn't know why she was so upset. She said I didn't provide my card after service and Patrick left memo to them. She simply was so angry to me. This is what happen and I don't deserve those kind of call from them. From making an appointment and how to collect the charge is part of their work. Patrick left one of his paperes at my house after his service and reported to the office which looked like that I stole it. After he found that one of the paper which happened to be the invoice was missing he made up the story and accused me for stealing that invoice to not to pay for their service. He reported to the office that after he found the invoice was gone he came back to me to make another invoice and I refused. So there was no invoice in his report. That was all lie. After he finished his work I paid with my credit card. He pack up his tools and papers and left my house. He never came back for the missing paper. Or he couldn't come back because it was too late to come back if he found that there was no invoice in his papers if that he realized it few days later. Anyway he made mistake, made up story and accused me to cover it up. I had really bad experience with them. This is the note Patric provided to the office. Tina sent this via email. "Hyun did not want to sign agreement. She scratched off the sample price so I had to fill out another one. When it came to payment she did not want to give payment info. I explained she would not receive a report. She finally gave me credit info. I packed up tools loaded the car and went back inside. When I returned the invoice was not with the other paperwork. I insisted that we fill out another one but she did not oblige. She said office would call with report and she will pay. The original invoice is not attached. Not sure if she kept it." After Patric left my place he never came back to my place to pick up his missing paper or to fill out another one. Yes. I sent email saying I don't need any report from them. It is because I live here by myself and since there is no mold I don't need any report from them. That is al. But Patrick used this email to take advantage, write it in his memo to the office saying I told 'Office will call with report and I would pay" HE NEVER CAME BACK TO PICK UP HIS LOST PAPER. I NEVER SAID THAT THE OFFICE HAD TO CALL ME WITH REPORT AND I WOULD PAY. I gave him my credit info in my house. He left his invoice paper accidentally. THAT IS ALL ! For the record, I did get any report from them. read more

I must say that I dreaded making the call to get my home inspected for mold. However, I was pleasantly surprised with how incredibly helpful Rick was when he arrived. Rick was prompt, incredibly knowledgeable, and engaging. Some inspectors have a "better than thou" attitude----NOT RICK. He made me feel like he was in this with me, and we could solve whatever problems we might find. He interfaced with both my wife and me, and made the us happy we had called him. This is amazing considering the potential negatives around the topic of mold. I would recommend Rick to ANYONE!!!! He was even friendly to my cat, who doesn't warm up to anyone. These guys were awesome- I really can't say enough about how awesome Mold Inspection Sciences of Texas was. Super communicative from the start- Heidi, Ben, Dominick, and Shavoya were always in contact with me through the whole process, even as things got more complicated with the rain and the seller. I decided to get an additional Mold Inspection on top of my home inspection because I was purchasing an older home (1930) that was moved to the property in 2011 and sat vacant for a while until it was remodeled, so I felt that I wanted to be sure that the air quality and mold levels were safe for me and my pug. While they couldn't get the inspection done as soon as I wanted them to (I needed over the weekend, we called on a Friday, they came on Tuesday) they got me in as soon as they could. On the day that the inspection was scheduled it was raining and had been raining, and one of the issues with the home was the pooling of water underneath the house and the debris in the crawlspace. Dominick and Ben went above and beyond to make sure they got the inspection done as thoroughly as they could given the condition and the weather. I actually was really grateful that all that rain was present during my option period and my inspections since it gave me an opportunity to see the house in some extreme weather and I was able to negotiate some of these issues with the seller. I was under a lot of stress at this point, with the inspections, the seller, the option period and everything, and they handled my anxiety calmly and professionally and I felt like went above and beyond what they had to do, especially since I was all wound up about everything. Dominick did a very thorough job and not only took 5 samples but discovered a few areas of wet that we didn't know about from the original inspection (including an active leak from the outside and a leak under a sink that we didn't know about). Ben followed up promptly and took the time to explain things really clearly. I am a first-time home buyer and don't really have any idea of what I am doing, and he talked me through the inspection results and how to prevent mold in the future. After the fact, my seller didn't exactly handle the information in a timely manner and I had some concerns about the place not being properly dried out and the potential for mold growing in the house with the wet spots the home inspector and mold inspector found. Ben spoke to me to about the situation and then worked with the seller to figure out how to best approach the situation. While I'm not walking in with the level of confidence I hoped to have around the mold report due to the seller not drying out the house appropriately, that is no fault of Mold Inspection Sciences of Texas. Overall, I am very glad I got this inspection and was very impressed with their professionalism and the results of the inspection (albeit not completely at peace due to other circumstances and the amount of money I invested in achieving that peace of mind). I just don't get what their purpose is. I just bought a rental unit that had obvious mold on the HVAC system that I wanted to get checked out. I found these guys on Yelp with gleaming reviews and called them to come out to check out the unit thinking they would actually do something about the mold. A guy showed up, saw the mold that I pointed him to, opened some vents to check for more mold, then told me I had mold. That was it! He was there for 30 minutes to tell me the obvious and charged me $200. He took a sample and charged me an additional $100 to have it analyzed. Didn't realize I could have bought a mold detection kit at Home Depot for $15 that would've told me the same exact thing. read more

We suspected mold in one of our bathrooms. We researched state certified mold inspectors only and this brought us to these professionals. We called on a Tuesday and Rick W was there on Wednesday for the inspection. I personally was blown away at how detailed the inspection was, I figured they would just come in and take a few swabs and leave. This was not the case at all; this is a full blown inspection with air testing, sample testing, moisture reading, photos and a detailed report. The staff was very helpful and available if we needed. Rick W, our inspector, took his time and was very patient and compassionate with your questions. It only took a few days to receive our results that confirmed our suspicions.
