We were staying down the block from Molkajete and happened to notice their sign outside for happy hour. There are not a lot of options in the area, so we decided to stop in and grab a drink. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a tiny, blink and you miss it type of spot with a handful of tables and a small bar inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted and offered to sit at the bar since we were just going to have drinks (we had just ate at another restaurant). The bartender was very friendly and conversational during our visit. At the recommendation of a local patron, we opted for the happy hour margaritas, tamarind and blackberry. They were both really refreshing, with the tamarind being a bit sweeter than the blackberry. The food smelled delicious, so it was kind of a bummer that we had already had dinner elsewhere. We stopped by for a quick sit-down dinner on a Monday evening. While the space wasn't big or busy, service was quick. We ordered the Roasted Half Chicken ($18.72) and Lomo Saltado ($31.20). The chicken was good and filling, though some of the white meat was a bit bland. When I added the hot sauces and paired it with the Mexican rice and beans, it was perfect though. I'm not usually a rice or beans person, but this combination made the meal better. The lomo saltado is a classic Peruvian dish with tender steak, onions, and tomatoes. Usually I see this dish paired with fries, but they opted for chunks of potato instead next to a bed of rice. Overall, it was a delicious meal that was satisfying and fulfilling. I really wanted to like Molkajete Restaurant and Bar, but unfortunately my experience was disappointing from start to finish. I ordered via Uber Eats and reached out to the restaurant privately to share my concerns before posting publicly, but I never received a response or any acknowledgment. My lomo saltado was extremely disappointing -- it arrived without the fries or potatoes, was overly sweet, and was cooked well-done even though I specifically requested medium. It was honestly inedible and I ended up throwing it away. The ceviche was just okay, but it was poorly packed -- the plantains were placed in the same container, leaving them soggy. The few that weren't soggy tasted stale. The only positive part of my order was the sangria, which was very good. Overall, I was truly disappointed by both the food quality and the lack of response from the restaurant. I won't be ordering from here again. read more

This was one of my best dining experiences ever. The place is small/intimate so I would go here for a date or small party dinner. The ambiance overall is dimmed lighting and the music is at a perfect level. The bar is not huge but the flavors coming out of there are. I began with a glass of Savignon blanc that was paired with the Ceviche Classico which has sweet potatoes and white corn & fish this dish is full of flavor. I also got the Aguachile (green one) which had an amazing spice the avocado was a great touch and the freshness of both dishes was great. I then got the Sin palabra which is slightly spicy they burn an orange slice on top which also adds some flavor. My friend got the Cheese nacho's & added with chorizo they looked and smelled amazing. This dish is definitely big enough to share between 2 to 3 people. The Smoky Paloma sounded interesting, so I also got this drink and it was really good. I enjoy the presentation of the smoking skull on top very unique. The drink itself was good, It didn't have an overwhelming, smoky taste. The Enchilada Suixas which are chicken is just a beautiful dish the colors I mean it really made me want to eat chicken this night. My friend enjoyed it and said that it was a really good choice. Now I know I went a little crazy on the drinks, but right here these next three drinks are a must have the Pisko sour, Pisko sour passion fruit & the Pisko chicha sour my goodness it is not all the time that you go to a restaurant and the drinks are just as good. These drinks were all different when it came to flavor contrast however, there was literally not one that I did not enjoy. For myself, I ordered the Arros chaufa veg with shrimp this dish was also a great portion. It was fresh, flavorful, and, of course, beautifully presented. I also got a chance to try the Seafood Jalea which is the Top selling dish here, and I can absolutely see why it had fried Yuka,a soft shell crab, fried calamari, shrimp I mean it's really a great dish. We ordered lomo soltado for us and beef quesadilla for our baby daughter at this restaurant. The beef was so dry and not fresh. The gravy doesn't taste like Lomo Saltado sauce in a typical Peruvian restaurant at all. One of the co-owners did respond to our feedback and provided us with a new dish, but the beef was still not edible. I would say the service was decent, and she is genuinely apologetic for the quality of food. To follow up, I didn't eat much and so I was fine but my husband had a stomach problem the night after we came back from the dinner. This use to be a Peruvian restaurant and now is this mix of Mexican food and Peruvian food. So we decided to try it and we were very disappointed. Why? We wanted Chaufa Rice and their menu says it's $18 but they charged us $28 and it was not Chaufa rice. It was some sort of fusion of meat and a bad attempt of what they call Chaufa. So if you are ordering from this place, they prices on the flyer say one thing, the website another and the menu another and when we went to talk to them they just said "we'll tell our boss" Very disappointed read more
