My gf lives in Sunset Park and we decided to do a family date night. She said she has been passing by and has seen how packed this place gets. We were a party of 7. We were seated right in the front near the bar. It's not very big but also has an outdoor seating space as well. I loved the ethnic decor, service, food, and lively vibe. The drinks were amazing. My buddy, gf, and her husband all had margaritas that they raved about. I'm not a drinker, I had a few virgin mojito that were really good. Now the food. Guac was great. We had two one spicy and the other for the kids. I make a good guac myself, so I'm a hard critic. For dinner, 2 of the kids had burritos that could feed 2, the other had the Camarones Criollos which is a grilled shrimp dish. The four adults shared 2 of the specials, the Parrillada De Marias- its grilled sirloin steak, pork, chicken, lobster tail, and chorizo. The Parrillada De Mariscos- Branzino, octopus, calamari, shrimp, and lobster tail. It was a huge serving and we were all filled. Price won't break the bank. This is a truly hidden gem in Sunset Park. We wanted a quick bite as we were staying at the Wyndham down the street. We both got Carne Asada. I enjoyed it, but it desperately needed more seasoning and salt. No salt or pepper on any of the tables, so I couldn't do much about it. It was very light on the flavor and as a former Californian, I'm used to it being packed with a punch after being marinated for awhile. The Spanish rice was actually my favorite part. There was a little bug on my plate when I arrived but figured its an older place with the door constantly open and shut, bugs are going to come in. Maybe that makes it more authentic and real. We were one of the first patrons to arrive after we finished a work event nearby and needed something that opened early for a quick lunch. I've been to Maria's several times with both friends and family, and it never disappoints! I was first introduced to this spot in 2021, when I was doing an internship in the neighborhood. I was staying in a hotel a few nights a week, which happened to be just around the corner from Maria's. The first thing I ever got from there was their veggie burrito, which is filled with a variety of perfectly cooked veggies, including roasted mushrooms and sautéed spinach. It's delicious! The fish tacos are also equally delicious. As for drinks, they never disappoint from here. I've had both the sangria and the mojito from here, and both are strong, but at the same time don't taste much like alcohol. To me, that's the sign of a good drink, though! The interior of the restaurant is absolutely adorable, with relics of Mexico covering the walls. It's colorful, eclectic and comfortable all at once. The last time I ate here, it was with my parents, and since we had our dog with us, we were sat in the back patio. I'd never eaten back there before, but the good vibes were just as strong. Even better, our waiter was incredibly attentive and sweet. Every time I've been here, whether it be solo, with friends or with family, the waitstaff is always so friendly and accommodating. They exude warmth and are there to help you with whatever you may need. They're also very quick to refill water if you're empty, which is always much appreciated in a restaurant. Maria's may be a small restaurant, but it's truly a gem. Though I've never been to Mexico, the way this restaurant is decorated as well as its homely energy makes you feel like you're going to somebody's home in Mexico, not a restaurant at all. Which I give major props for. In tiny, hard-to-read letters, they note that they charge you extra for flavors. I ordered a side of rice & beans which was $6 as a dish on the menu. This restaurant has really cute decor and a cozy interior. We ordered the guac and chips to start and it came in a huge Mexican mortar and pestle. Guac was excellent but definitely could be more spicy since we asked for it to be spicy. We were also given a side of salsa but didn't really eat much of it since it tasted oddly sweet. For entrees, my boyfriend ordered the molcajete norteño and he said it was flavorful. Steak was tender and shrimps weren't over cooked. I got the chuleta mexicano and thought everything was good, except that the pork chop was over cooked. Rice and beans were solid. I recommend you all check out Marias as the food is good, but service is even better. Great for a weeknight dinner because service is so quick. It's not a cheap fajita plate(28$), we got it hoping the price reflected the quality (it didn't). We had to dig through mountains of bell pepper and onion looking for meat. The meat we did find was honestly just gross :/ I told the bartender we didn't love the fajitas and I specifically pointed to the SLAB of gristle and fat asking what it was and he responded "grasa". Which as a Mexican I'm fully aware of. He tried to tell me it's most people's favorite part of the steak but I can't see what that matters if I was clear that we didn't like it. After explaining what it was he told me it's what most people eat to "bajar de peso", which again not only untrue but still unsure why it matters if I told him we were unhappy :/ I told him it's my tias favorite part of meat and she's 400 lbs, which is a true story. The price of the meal was worth 5-6 hours of our combined working day. Avoid -- so much better in Brooklyn. Not surprised how dead it was given out last dining experience. Had a great meal and drinks with friends 2 years ago but boy, have things changed! $15 for 3 tacos, $15 for guacamole and chips ( $1/avocado at the market one block away) and the most watery margaritas we've ever had! If you want people to stay, eat and drink so your staff can make tips to pay their rent, DONT measure pouring cocktails! Time to retire, Maria. This is a really excellent Mexican food delivery option in the South Slope area. I almost always go with a burrito. Usually the veggie special, which comes loaded with spinach, mushrooms, onions, and perfectly cooked brown rice. But I've also tried a few of their meat options and those have been delicious as well! The burritos are huge (definitely enough for two meals) and come with a little side salad and some guacamole. I've also ordered their rotisserie chicken (it's very good and generously priced), pick de gallo, and chips and guac, which is excellent (and they pay attention when you ask for spicy!) although a little pricey for the quantity you get. That's just what you deal with when you're lazy and order delivery, though! The best part of every order is their homemade spicy sauces. These things are DELICIOUS! I prefer the orange/red ever so slightly to the green but would buy copious amounts of either if they sold them separately. (hint: Maria's sell them separately!!!) While this is generally a delivery spot for me, I ate in once with my family years ago (maybe 6 or 7?) when my Grandma was visiting from Florida and we sat in the backyard which was really pleasant! I remember service being a little slow but the food was just as great, if not better than when it's delivered, and the margaritas were A+! Plus the place is adorable inside! Came her spontaneously to eat as we were in the neighborhood looking for a place to eat. At the beggining, everything was great and the piña colada's were amazing (pictured down below). After a while we realized we made a mistake coming here as service was really slow and the restaurant was empty. The food came and it was underwelming, I had no battery left in my phone so I couldn't take pictured but the nachos were okay, nothing special. We ordered also some mini taquitos that were really dry. What was truly bothersome was after eating our meal, we ask the waitress if they have flan and if so, which flavors... so she responded that she didn't know and she would be back. We thought she was going to get us a menu but instead, she sat a new table, brought them their menu's and then NEVER CAME BACK TO OUR TABLE. We had to go to the front to pay. This spot is very cute! Me, my boyfriend and two friends came here Friday night and the vibes were great. We sat in the backyard, where they had a few extra tables. We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit margarita, although I don't drink the pitcher was enough for the 3 of them, two full cups each. They were feeling it just after the first one! They said it was very strong and I definitely saw haha. I ordered the chicken fajitas and the chicken was amazing! Very tender, very juicy and very flavorful. It came with a side of 3 tortillas, rice beans and guacamole. A little on the pricey side but it was great! The service was great! My cousins and I decided to hang around the neighborhood and grab a bite to eat. I recommended Maria's Bistro. I have dined here before. The food and drinks never disappointed. Today, I ordered the Chicken Mole and I asked our waiter if it was good. And the waiter stated yes! I typically go with chicken fajitas, but I wanted something different. So I went with Chicken Mole. As an appetizer I ordered an elote but had to return it because it was cold. This was replaced. When My meal arrived I took a bite and immediately I removed the piece of chicken out my mouth and placed it on the plate. I got the waiters attention and asked the waiter if I can switch my meal because I do not like it. The response was I can package your meal and you can order another plate and it will be charged. I was shocked! I have been to many restaurants and in occasions when the meal is not to my liking the manager comes over and ask to replace the meal or refund me. I was not looking for a refund but for the restaurant to replaced my meal with the fajitas meal. I told the waiter nope just throw it out I do not want to take it home because I do not like it. After today I will not return to this restaurant as they do not seem to take customer satisfaction into consideration. I was very disappointed and taken back by this experience. I asked for white meat in my enchilada which the waitress assured me was rotisserie chicken and white... I get the enchilada and it's neither rotisserie or white meat. My mother ordered shrimp fajita and got charcoal shrimp. They were so burnt they were stuck to the pan. Only nice thing was the waitress who was super sweet. I went here for lunch with an organization. There were about 30 of us. This was a pre-arranged event with the restaurant. They gave all of us the lunch special menu and the regular menu. The lunch special was $13.95. The food was good, the service was not great. When we were given the bill, everyone who ordered the lunch special was charged $25, not $13.95. According to the wait staff, the manager had decided that they could not accommodate the lunch special price for such a large group. However the manager was nowhere to be found. We were told he was out getting supplies. We were not informed about the price increase when we ordered our food and the lunch special menu did not indicate that it was not available to large groups. The bait and switch was a nasty surprise at the end of the meal. Ironically the restaurant was empty except for one or two small tables. Downside: We waiting ~20 mins for our drinks to arrive, then about 30mins for food, and we're just frankly ignored when we asked about desert. Overall, the food is great and at decent pricing. The calamari could have been a bit bigger but they were still delicious. We had both of them as appetizers and the fritura was served with a yummy sauce (neither are pictured because we dug in as soon as we got them oops. Lol) We also had some different flavored margaritas, frozen and on the rocks, and they were all great. Moreover, the waitress was polite and courteous however, I do think she could have checked in a little more. We had to ask for water and napkins and had to wait a while for our food but we understand these are different times and they're doing their best.
