So underrated. As a lactose-intolerant vegetarian in the Midwest full of meat and cheese, I was SO excited to find really delicious vegan options easily here without having to ask for a bunch of substitutions. We've tried the vegan torta and the vegan chimichanga, and they were both super. Keep an eye out for specials, their pumpkin tamale special was incredible. The first time we went, they gave us two free Jarritos with our order! My only critique is the terribly un-sustainable styrofoam boxes, somewhat ironic for a place that serves really stellar plant-based cuisine. Great food. Very nice staff. You can tell they had some opening glitches, but that should be expected. If you want some good, wholesome food come here. It's cheap and the staff seem very dedicated and nice. Give them a chance. One suggestion I have... make homemade corn tortilla chips and serve them with your great salsa. Second visit, and both times impressed by prompt service, personalized sharing of their menu and vision, and well flavored food. This is not so much "Mexican" as perhaps "Latin" or "World" food. Mostly Central American influence, with a bit of South American in addition to the Mexican billing shown here. This time, mentioned that I heard they have great soups and found their Corn Chowder as the soup of the day. Very much reminded me of soup I had in Peru, with a subtle, but distinct spice, and fresh corn flavor. Also tried a chicken wrap, again with fresh ingredients and a wonderful, mild flavor. The portion size was just right (I left full, but not stuffed), and the price was very reasonable at less than $8 for the meal. Previous visit - we enjoyed the both the Empanada and Sopes, both of which were outstanding! Also, order some of the Chicha - a sweet SA drink which also reminded us of Peru and Ecuador - though not made in the 'authentic' way, which is fine by us. ;) It's a long drive for me (45 minutes), so will be sure I leave time to stop by when I'm in the area again! read more

From reading all the wonderful reviews for Momcorn on Yelp I thought sure that this was a restaurant that seated at least 100 people. However, Momcorn is a small mom-and-pop operation that is located in a strip mall. The food was excellent! My wife and I tried several items each and loved all of it! The handmade strawberry empanada we had for desert was fantastic! One thing that really amazed me about this place was the presentation of the food -- it was better "plated" than many restaurants that cost three times as much. Yes, we will be going back! read more

Wanted to write an update to my original review regarding some mixed up orders for a group and a bad salad experience, because even though our experience wasn't by any means super bad, the staff at Momcorn (Ricardo in particular) made contact with us right away to apologize for the slight mix ups and experience we had, and actually went out of his way to try and make it right, and I definitely think they have gone above and beyond in their customer service. Food was just like its says a-maize-ing. I wish this place was closer because this is one of the best taco places ever and I love tacos. The sweet tamales were so good, highly recommend the pineapple flavored one put on the al pastor taco ohhh so good. I even got to talk to the owner and he seemed like he had a strong passion for his restaurant. He was very please when we told him the food was excellent. All amazing food! My personal favorite is their Jibarito which is to die for. Yummy . I usually get anything with plantains since they're delicious and my love for plantains increased after I tried this dish. Pricing is rated very cheap, so yay! I have been to Momcorn several times over the last few months. The staff is very nice, remembers repeat customers by name, and as one of the pioneering customers, they offered me samples of things to try as they were expanding their menu. The food is absolutely delicious, a great price for the money. Staff is flexible with mixing things up when you order plates or combos. Favorite foods-Tamales/Quesedillas/Empanadas-especially the fruit dessert empanadas! (The tortilla soup is delicious, too!) The place is ideal, I only have a few constructive criticisms, truly out of love: Soda fountain instead of soda bottles/cans, and some fresh brewed ice tea More combo meal options included on the menu, offering an additional meal item on the combo for those with hearty appetites or for those who just can't decide between all of the great menu choices Streamlined food quality-For example, each time I come to Momcorn, the soups taste a little different or are of different temps or the salads are prepared slightly differently-makes it fun but if you love a certain item for its taste or texture, you may be surprised the next time you order! Love the bright environment...but the food is truly restaurant quality-I would love to see a more 4 star restaurant type environment-instead of a fast food environment....I would definitely consider Momcorn for a Saturday night date if the ambience was a little more appealing-it would be a winning combination! Yesterday was my first day being vegan. Usually it's hard to find a place that accommodates much less has an extensive menu. First of all, lots of options on the vegan menu. The food was delicious. Chimichanga was ridiculous let me just tell you. Great portion. You could share it with someone. They even had vegan desserts and they were amazing too. The strawberry tamale and chocolate taco was what we had and it was amazing. :) Super happy. Michelle was so nice and helped us a lot. The servers were friendly, but understaffed. It was late lunch time and not very crowded, but it took a very long time for them to come around to us. They even forgot our waters, but I think it was more to being understaffed than laziness of the server. We got the burrito and taco plate. The meat of both was rather flavorless (pork and chicken, respectively). The burrito was good, but had no spice and was definitely extremely Americanized. That's not too say it wasn't tasty enough, but not authentic by any means. The taco plate left much to be desired, however, with neither much flavor or freshness. My wife and I wanted to try a local Mexican restaurant in the area and thought Momcorn fit the bill, considering the great Yelp ratings. We arrived for dinner and the place was nearly empty and thought to ourselves -- great, fast service! Well quite the contrary, actually. The three waitresses working that night seemed overwhelmed, lost, and very disinterested to their three dining customers. My wife and I ordered our meals at the same time, but sadly, her meal arrived first -- while I waited for additionally seven minutes before receiving mine. This service faux pas caused her meal to become lukewarm in comparison. Another couple also experiencing waitstaff issues had the wrong meals bought to them -- TWICE!! Their waitress had no idea what she was doing or even seemed to care about the egregious mistakes she was routinely making. Not sure if there was any supervisory element present, but there probably should've been. Overall, Momcorn's food is average at best, but they really need to work on their waitstaff service. read more

Stopped in for lunch today with a friend for the first time. We loved the guacamole and chips one of the best ever. I ordered the chicken flautas did not love. The chicken was dry and the flautas so hard you could not cut it with a knife My friend tried the tacos she said filling was good the corn tortillas are not her favorite which is also true of me. I had a bad night waiting in the parking lot for Triple AAA to arrive. It took over 3+ hours. It was dark out, my phone was dead, I was getting a bit hungry, & I needed to use the bathroom. I went into Momcorn & explained my situation to Sergio the director. He was simply an angel, a blessing! He was kind to let me use his phone to call Triple AAA concerning their whereabouts, he directed me to the back bathroom, & he gave me his phone charger so that I could charge up my phone! WHAT? How kind was that! I just had to order a meal. I got the Taco Plate & a Pepsi. I definitely needed a Pepsi after my long night! I give my rice, beans, & corn 5 stars. My tacos were under seasoned for my taste, but I'll definitely be back! Next I'll try their salads & lemonade. Thanku again to Sergio for going above & beyond in customer service. This review is based on trying to order/service, never got to the point of actually eating their food. My coworkers and I decided we would try the place and I tried to call in the order. The girl put me on hold 3 minutes before finally helping me. She asked for our phone number and I had to give it to her 6 times before she got it. Now both of us speak clear English and I gave her the number and she would read me an entirely different number back. Six times. I should have given up then but we really wanted to try the place. So then she asked for the pickup name and I gave it to her. I mentioned there were a few orders and she asked for the name, I said they would all be under the same pick up name. She said she couldn't do that and needed to know who they were for, I said well only one person is picking it up so its just easier to have one name. She started arguing with me about it and I gave up and told her we would order elsewhere. I can only imagine if phone numbers and orders are that hard of a concept that we probably would have received the wrong orders also. Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this place. I wanted to try the strawberry empanadas but I digress...such an epic fail. So we arrive at 7pm friday night, relatively empty except for a lady placing an order before us, and a single table that looked like they'd already eaten. Everyone looked happy so why would I be worried? We place our order for one beef empanada, one strawberry empanada, a burrito (that as a special comes with soup) and the flautas dinner special. The girl says it'll be a few minutes to which I say thanks and we sit down to wait for our carry out order. So we wait... 10 min 20 min 30 min 40 minutes!!! Mind you people have now come in and ordered take out orders and they are getting their food before us. What the hell? You know those angry people in the Dining Dash games that start to turn red when pissed and about to leave? Yea that's about how I felt. 50 min has now passed and I'm PISSED. I go up to the girl whose trying to do all the orders while another guy just twaddles around looking bored. There's two cooks in teh kitchen that look like they are constantly bickering. I go up to the girl and say this is a joke. I want my food or money back. The owner comes out (ie mom in the MomCorn name?) and says 'oh thanks for being patient' and gives me a 15% off the next order!! As IF I would ever come back. After 50 minutes I hear the order taker ask about my burritto and the cook just SHRUGS at her!!!!! WHAT?! So he starts to make the most half assed burritto I've ever seen. Taco bell is five star compared to this piece of crap I got. And now comes the kicker. We've been here over 60 minutes, and the order takes tells me they are out of the strawberry empanadas. Are you f'in kidding me? The WHOLE reason I came was that damn empanada. If our order was filled when we placed it, I would have gotten them. BUT because the kitchen went out of order with the tickets, I got screwed. How is this a way to run a kitchen?? So they give me this nasty pineapple tamale thing. Garbage can. NOW its 830pm and she's finally packing our order. I ask her to make SURE everythings in the bag and she assures me its all there. A reminder, one burrito, the flautas dinner, beef empanada, soup, and the nasty pineapple tamale. I take the bag from her TRUSTING that THIS wouldnt get screwed up! We leave and get home quarter to nine, I start to unpack the order...NO F'ING SOUP!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I'm enraged at this point so I call them right up! The same girl picks up and I instantly start that the soups missing! She's like 'oh yea, it's sitting right next to me. I realized when you walked out." ARE you joking? Don't you think she would come out after us? The REAL kicker is they put a spoon in the bag!!! No sorry from her. Nothing. I tell her to pass on to the owner that this place is a joke. NO thanks. She basically says thanks and hangs up. Wow. GREAT customer services. I would rather eat taco bell than ever come back here. They didnt offer anything for the wait can you say quac and chips? Then they basically laughed t messing up my order. I've got better places to spend my money. AND THE FOOD didnt even taste that good! The burrito was falling apart when I opened the box and wasn't even wrapped well. It was the saddest thing I've ever eaten. The flautas were TINY and sat on a bed on lettuce? okkay? The bf says they were bad. And the empanada that was suppose to be beef and veggies had weird bits of egg and potatoes? I dunno. This was an epic fail. I'll stick to other options in the area. We have dined here twice now since my last review. And we are obsessed with the grilled plantain steak sandwich and cream corn with chile powder! Omg something unique and different! Forget the tacos! A server recommended this dish to us and now I crave it! Here's kind of the downfall if you dine in you still have to pay extra for chips and salsa. But don't fill up on it and go straight for the grilled plantain steak sandwich! It's huge and amazing! read more

The only reason there is a star is because the food is fresh. It's obvious and that is a nice change of pace...however, it soooo lacking flavor! (I should've known by the look of the rice and beans I saw on a neighbors plate as I sat down...looked unseasoned and over cooked) You have to buy your chips and salsa, which is not a huge deal but heads up. They offer 2 salsas in a tube red and green, one spicy and one mild, flavor was decent but the chips were hot and fresh. They were the best part of the meal! I ordered the loaded enchiladas and husband got the flautas. Service was not the best but I can always look past that if the food is amazing; but in this case they were lacking in both. The steak did not have a sear to it what so ever and the ground beef was bland. I can better and cheaper tacos from the Super Mercado down the street. Definitely not worth the price. read more
