This is the hidden gem in Mundelein! Consistent good food over the past 15+ years Love their burritos and quesadillas! They have bottled beer and do margaritas also. Inside it's not great but since 2021 they extended their outside deck which is really nice ! Still quite reasonably priced also, don't miss trying it out !! read more

Ordered a burrito for lunch this week. It was soggy and not the greatest. I'm not sure if this is typically the quality of their food, but I'm hoping it was just a one-time type of situation. Never a bad experience at Taco & Burrito Express. Their food is terrific. The service is quick and courteous. The vibe around the place is that they are busy but want to take care of their customers. We usually get take out but I have eaten lunch here after a round of golf at Countryside. The choices for Mexican food around Mundelein abound with great places. They are so quick and convenient that they have become a real go-to. read more

I seldom write a review after just one visit but I do have to say that our meal was substantial, tasty and visually appealing - and that has compelled me to write this review. I heard Rick Bayless say that the majority of our Chicagoland Mexican style cooking is from central Mexico region. And ever since Nuevo León on 18th street (that's Pilsen for us on the Northshore) burned down, I've been searching for a Mexican restaurant with that similar taste. Unfortunately, I've been disappointed time and time again, until my recent trip here! Wow, the taste of the dishes is almost a complete match with Nuevo León and their chefs come from the Mexico City region. Everything was muy delicioso (very delicious), from the big steak burrito, to the little steak burrito, to the enchilada, to the torta - you get the idea, it was really good and completely eaten. The shrimps on our tacos had grill marks on them - pay attention to the details my amigos. They must use real lard in their cooking because the refried beans were silky and buttery. I'm looking forward to coming back here when I'm in the area and the hostess was so kind and sweet. The food taste better when you're treated respectfully, wouldn't you agree?!? A little off topic - the new Nuevo León is on 26th street. I think I'll make it over there when I'm serving for jury duty. read more

Went with some friends and we all ordered chicken tacos. I asked if it was white or dark meat and was told it was white. Unfortunately it was dark. Prices were fair and the place was clean with music. Many customers waited patiently in line. Nice outdoor seating option. I would simply order something different next time. read more

You really can't go wrong with Mexican food. We ordered in, and had not tried this specific restaurant before. Delivery was timely. The food was very good. We tried the guacamole and chips. The chips were the restaurant style, and perfectly cooked. Sometimes these Hispanic style tortilla chips tend to be a bit greasy. These were not, and tasted delicious. We also tried a steak burrito, and tacos. The tacos we very good. The burrito was good as well, a bit too runny for my liking. Sometimes burritos come out a bit more firm, which is my preference. My low rating is not based on food which is constantly good in quality and taste. This is an expression of my disapproval of their customer service. My family of 4 has been regulars at taco and burrito express. During our last couple of visits, I got the sense that they were wilfully ignoring us. Instead of serving us, they served customers who arrived after us. They are one of those establishments where the rule is not 'first come first served",, but "white first". Getting something like a glass of water or a carryout box needed multiple requests. If you are white, this will be great for you. For non whites, I recommend somewhere else if you want to maintain your dignity. read more

Mmm Taco & Burrito Express, I want to give you more stars, I really do but steak tacos are not ground beef tacos. There is a world of difference. Yesterday I ordered 2 steak tacos on a corn tortilla and got 2 ground beef tacos instead. My boyfriend ordered 3 ground beef tacos and I think they must have confused our order because he got 1steak taco and 2 ground beef tacos. It's so quick and cheap here so it's hard to complain, the ground beef tacos weren't exactly unsavory but when a lady has a craving...it best be satisfied. And yes, definitely agree with Julie S. on this one, they don't mess with that "Express" aspect of their name, our meals were served in about 5 minutes time. Good service, tasty food -- hopefully next time I get steak tacos and not ground beef. Oh and, sadly their salsas are not at all spicy and served at room temperature. No bueno. read more

I love this little gem! It's a tiny little hole in the wall that is so good! Great prices and great food! Always get chips and salsa when you walk in, has a nice tiny kick but without destroying your mouth. My go to's are typically the enchiladas (all are great!), flautas, burritos, tacos and chimichangas. The servers are all very kind. Highly recommend this place! If you're looking for a fancy place, this isn't it but if you want great food.. come here! read more

2/20/2019 lunch w 3 colleagues. Two people ordered chicken quesadillas and two ordered chicken enchiladas. We all cleaned our plates. The enchiladas were dinners with beans and rice for just under $10 a plate. Service was quick. Parking is free. The place could use a little spiffing up. The chairs are rather worn out. No "cush" left in the cushions so sometimes you feel like your sitting little low. read more

So all of my steak taco endeavors are compared to this place's steak tacos. They are simply the best and a must get on your first visit. After that, by all means venture to other dishes and you too will compare all Mexican cuisine to here. Spanish rice is typically just that necessary evil (used in a playful way there) but here it just works here so well. Their refried beans with that little bit of cheese rock and always add to whatever main dish you choose. Small family owned place that have the nicest staff and they are quick. I'll be honest, we eat here a lot. Like, probably way too often, they probably know us. But being that good, at a great price, its hard to stay away for long. When they say Express, they mean it- this place is fast. For a sit down restaurant, its only about ten minutes from pulling in the parking lot to devouring your authentic mexican food. Decor is hispanic-cute-tacky-- just what you want and expect from TBE. The food is awesome for 'fast' food. I always get steak tacos, but I've ventured out to the steak fajita burrito once and it was great as well. HUGE portions + small price + unlimited chips/salsa = always go home very full and happy. Service is quick and attentive, in a clean, cozy-quaint environment. Drinks can be a huge part of mexican dining, and I agree with the other Yelpers that this is not the place to go for drinks. Yes, they have a few good beers in a cooler, but the margaritas are likely to be generic mix. Not bad, just generic. But for a quick, tasty meal you can always rely on, T&BE is a great option! read more

I love Mexican food and this is easily one of my favorite spots! It's near work so I frequent this place for lunch. It usually does not get busy until around 1230 or so. The owners/workers are really nice and always helpful in case you need anything (aka refill on my water haha). The chips & salsa are one of my faves. I could probably make a meal out of it if I really wanted to. The salsa is pretty mild. I always get the steak queen burrito (yeah that's right the QUEEN!) as an entre. To me, it's the perfect size to not feel stuffed after and be able to get back to work without being stuck in a food coma for an hour or two, but if you're really hungry, go for that king burrito! A wonderful family-run mexican restaurant. It's a great spot for lunch with quick service and very good value meals. The tacos are superb, as are the chips you can enjoy while they are being prepared.
