Just wanted to be another person raving about this place since they are super awesome. I have been coming here a year, since my baby was little, to do selling/buying. The two ladies that run it obviously love what they do and are the most helpful kind of people you can get when you walk into a shop. They carry literally everything for babies, kids, and moms. Gear, toys, clothes up to age 6 I believe, shoes, maternity/nursing, and even useful appliances that moms would usually have. The store is packed full of stuff and all you have to do is ask if they have something in stock and they will know exactly where to find it or maybe a substitute if not. They also have a Facebook page where they will post a lot of updates regarding new stuff they get. Since the second hand market is saturated due to a booming economy, now's a great time to save and reduce reuse and recycle. They price according to market so their prices are reasonable and they move things out fast. Their consignment policies are clearly outlined on their website and they give store credit up front for clothes they take, which is a huge bonus to me. Sometimes they have end of season clothing sales depending on if they have too much stock, and the last two times their sales ran 50% off or up to 75% off, but I get the credit of pre-discounted price up front, whether my clothes go on sale or doesn't sell at all. That to me is a very favorable policy to the seller. Before they ever sell my items, I get to use that credit on something I want in their store the day I bring in my stuff. I've had so much fun selling and shopping for items there and the process is really easy. So lucky to have a great kids consignment store run by great people close to me. My experience at this place was not good, i went in to consign some clothes I went up to the counter and I was stared at in a way that made me feel discriminated based on how I looked. The two ladies sounded as if they were discouraging me from bringing items to consign, the lady with the lazy eye said they weren't accepting certain child sizes as she looked at the top of my clothes filled bag and the funny thing is that I had called earlier and asked what type of items they were accepting to make sure I took items that they needed. So I left and had a friend of mine go back 15 minutes later with the same bag with the same ladies, they looked through the bag and accepted half of the items in the bag, she was in and out in a jiffy. Don't bring items to consign here they might not like the way you look, shame on them. read more

We recently "discovered" Mommy's Trading Post - and found the shop to be a great resource. We have twin daughters, and when we were preparing for our first big family trip we went to MTP for all the extras we might need - extra pajamas, another diaper bag, toys to distract - they have a little bit of everything. The owners are great to help you find options and give suggestions. We started bringing clothes and equipment to sell/consign. We love the fact that we can bring in things the girls outgrew (many times they didn't even wear the clothes, or just wore once), as well as things such as walkers, carriers, etc. The store is packed - but well organized. The consignment terms are upfront and fair. Highly recommend you stop in here first for good value, lightly used clothes and equipment that is also kind to the environment. read more

Great place, but it's a free-for-all when a high demand item comes in on consignment. We put out name on a wait list for a BOB Jogging stroller, and someone else beat us to it because of an Instagram post. I guess that means we need to follow them on social media too. Sigh. I understand how their business model works, but wish there was a better way for us to have a shot at getting the items we want when they arrive beyond having to stalk them. Contrary to a review from a few months ago, I put my name on a list for a Chicco Keyfit Caddy about a week ago and got a call yesterday saying that someone had brought one in, in excellent condition. They held it for me for the rest of the day and I picked it up this morning right as they opened. Couldn't be happier with the whole experience. The Caddy is almost brand new (came in the original box and everything) and was 50% less than the brand new in store price. In addition to gear, this is also my go to shop for maternity & kids clothes. They always have great stuff of excellent quality and they even have fitting rooms where you can try on the maternity clothes. I very randomly walked in here while visiting family in Alameda. This is the store that every mother needs! Gently used maternity wear and baby clothes that were well curated and budget conscious. I now finally have jeans that will fit me for the low price of $11. The staff was friendly and warm. Two stars for reasonable priced items but negative stars for poor consignment policies. They won't give you very much for your items they purchase from you and it's all in store credit only. Most the clothes is for boys and so I couldn't purchase anything for my daughter after receiving store credit. While I might consider purchasing toys with my store credit, there were not toys for a two year old toddler other than poor quality ride-on toys. There were no books beyond infant books. The store is a mess so you really have to look hard too. For consigned items, you get 60% store credit or 40% check. But if you want them to mail the check to you, there's a $2 shipping and handling fee. Why do I need to pay $2 for an envelope and a 40 cents stamp when the store is already getting 60% of the sell? There are plenty of other consignment stores in the area so this store should really try to have better customer relations. I've consigned in SF a lot and have never had such a poor experience. Not to mention how I waited over an hour for the store clerk to look at my bag of items when the store was basically empty minus one other person with a small bag of items. How come there is only one employee working a consignment store?! There's always a wait at consignment stores but there should be someone designated to consignment/stock and another person working the store. Smh. I'm not returning to consign. read more

This place is total find, well worth a trip to The Island. Mommy's Trading Post has a great selection of gently-used, CLEAN baby and kid equipment. The layout is airy and bright, everything is well-displayed and the helpful owner can definitely give you a little guidance if you need it. It's a refreshing change from many kids consignment stores, which can have a sporadic selection of dingy stuff that doesn't always work, isn't priced, sometimes a staff that isn't familiar with the merch, etc. That's the usual for the consignment biz, and that's totally fine. I figured it was the trade off I had to make for being cheap. But it doesn't have to be that way! ALSO, if you know where Forbidden Island is (and if you don't, you really should), this place is easy to find: right across the street. Great Store! i came from Hayward and totally worth it. Had the little one not been in a funk I would have stuck around longer as they have so much stuff! Clothes by size, accessories, infant toys, cloth diapers (awesome), and baby equipment of all sorts. They have a huge maternity section as well. I found a great assortment of items for both my 18m old daughter and myself. We're going to Europe in the Fall and Hawaii so I needed both warmer clothing and beach/summer clothing. While my daughter was playing and exploring the toys in the store; I found some great deals on a fall coat, 2 hoodies, skinny jeans, iPlay water shoes. I also bought a couple board books about ABCs and Baby animals. Since I'm also pregnant I scored on Maternity clothing for me: Denim Tunic/dress will look super cute w/ leggings, a pair of shorts, and super comfy black leggings!! One of my go-tos for clothing, gear, and toys for my kids! There is a great blend of new and used toys, I love the Melissa & Doug selection. They have a maternity/nursing section and I've found some great clothes for me too- bonus! They are also doing some upcycled clothes with logos or slogans lately and it's so cute, cheaper and faster than Etsy too. During Covid-19 they have also started a great online store and also upload the new arrivals constantly on social media, I was able to snag a Strider bike as soon as it came in! This is a great place to get good quality used items. My son is close to his first birthday and we have bought a lot of clothes there for him. They also sell other things, like baths, carriers, diaper bags, and maternity. We were there today grabbing some winter gear and they just gave us a play house! They couldn't sell it because a few of balls and keys and smaller loose items were missing, but baby is having a fantastic time with it anyway. read more

I love coming and visiting mommy's trading post. They really do have everything that you need from pregnancy to taking care of an infant and as your child grows. I have been fortunate in that I have been able to get maternity and nursing clothes for myself as well as toys for my little one mainly using store credit. I wish that I had found the store earlier in my pregnancy and I could've purchased my brand new nursing tanks and a maternity belt here! The maternity and nursing merchandise is both new and used, so there should be something to fit everyone's budget. This store really has everything you need in addition to clothes. I've gotten 0+ month bottle nipples, a brand new manual breast pump (very useful for long road trips!), and a very specific toy. The store is crowded because they have so much - if you need something in particular, ask the staff they will know where to find it. I am SO happy I decided to check this place out on my way home. A few friends had wonderful things to say about Mommy's Trading Post after I whined and complained about my experience at the "other" children's consignment shop on Park Street...you know the one I'm referring to. Anywho! I have never felt more comfortable in a retail store in my life. My 1 yr old was welcomed to roam around and explore while I shopped, which is so fantastic as keeping this little adventurer strapped down means a very short stop for mom. They have a decent selection of not just clothes, but so many other things babies and kids need! Both ladies there were super friendly and helpful, I only hope in my blundering excitement of finding such a gem I didn't come off as rude! I just so happened to still have that bag of clothes in my car(surprise surprise) that wasn't good enough for Lauren's Closet; so not only did I buy a couple things, I traded in nearly half the bag for a generous amount of store credit! I love this store. The staff is helpful and friendly and the inventory is well organized, clean, and displayed nicely. My husband and I recently went in to shop for a baby carrier. The salesperson was super helpful. She showed us how to use it and encouraged us to practice using it. She also showed us the different kinds of carriers and was very knowledgeable about them. The one we chose was used and half the price of a new carrier. Our baby needed a diaper change while we were there and the bathroom was very baby and family friendly. I couldn't help buying a couple of pairs of pants for her, too. They have a lot of cute, very reasonably priced clothes. read more

I love this place! I went to every used baby store in the area (Oakland and Alameda) while I was pregnant. Usually, I would find stores packed full of crap, so much so that I couldn't even deal with looking. This place has nice items and it's easy to look around. I especially appreciated their maternity clothing section. I found something every time I went! Now that I have a little one, I know I can find something I need (or not) and if I need to stop and nurse, I can hang out on the couch until I'm done. Woohoo 600th review for 2015!! Came to alameda to visit my bro in law at Prestg which is a shoe head boutique and barbershop. One door down is a mommy/baby consignment store. Finally had the chance to check this place out because every time we come visit my bro in law, the place was closed but looks like this is a whole new store with new owner. We were greeted by Ashley who is the store owner and also met her 6 MO daughter. My daughter and her daughter hit it off really well. Great place to find good deals on baby, toddler and maternity clothes, baby carriers, medela pumping parts and bottles, infant/toddler toys etc.. Also noticed a rack for baby winter gear. I ended up buying a cute red pea coat for my 10 month old daughter for $10. Fits her perfectly! Ashley was super helpful and great to chat with.
