Guess what, I haven't even visited the store yet. Five stars for the business owner Zinzie. I called on Sunday around 3 PM to see if they we're open. After a few rings, Zinzie answered the phone and let me know her hours throughout the week and I noticed that today they are closed. Zinzie still answer the phone and was pleasant enough during the entire conversation on her day off. turns out, what I was looking for, they didn't have in the store anyway after our discussion, so she instead made three recommendations of other businesses/competitors that might be better suited for my request. She gave me their addresses and described their goods. She also asked for my wife's dress size and said she would be on the lookout for something specific. She said she would text us as well. She gets five stars for going the extra effort so I look forward to ultimately doing business in this store. These days, most retail personnel are either yes or no responses, they don't usually take time to really satisfy the needs of a customer. read more

Every Wednesday, I wander around the Laurel while waiting for the kiddo to get out of guitar lessons (with her fantastic teacher, search Raphi Gottesman). Recently I finally went into Mizaan (I had been on a little clothes shopping hiatus which is now, thankfully OVER!). I LOVE this shop. Beautiful, affordable clothes and accessories and warm, friendly staff. Reminds me of Collage that used to be on Lakeshore and has (sigh) closed. It has a larger floor plan though and so has a larger selection - yay! I can't wait until my self imposed accessories hiatus is over too) They have a wide range of sizes available also and a good amount of large and up which feels like it always sell out first elsewhere. Best yet - asked today and they told me the business is family owned and run! This is local at its best. I will keep coming back and pepper my wardrobe with lovely things from Mizaan. This is a great store nestled in the Laurel District. I've bought a couple of tops here, but their earring/jewelry selection is the best...and now I know why. The owner's daughter makes the majority of the earrings herself. I went in looking for a pair of earrings to go with this swanky dress I got for a wedding and didn't see anything that was exactly right. The gal behind the counter said that she could put something together for me from 2 pairs that were already made, but I'd have to wait while she went and got her tools. Amazing! Where else can you go that they would drop what they're doing to stop and make a custom pair of earrings for me....and only charge $25?! Love these ladies! Well, here it is! The first business that has inspired me to write a yelp review. I recently moved to Oakland near the Laurel District, and saw this boutique while shopping at the Lucky's across the street. The clothes were super cute (similar styles as Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, etc.) and very reasonably priced (jewelry $7-$25, dresses $16-$36, jackets $32ish and up). I raided the sale rack at the back of the store and walked away with some awesome finds. I can't wait to take my sister and mom here, because the diverse selection provides pieces that each of us would like (everything from conservative and casual to sexy and dressed-up). Having such a cute store so close to my house is going to be dangerous! read more

Before I start, I need to self proclaim myself as the queen of deals. A couple months back my sister's roommate saw me and complemented me on my entire outfit. Here's the conversation... You know in the movie Confessions of a Shop-a-Holic when the mannequins start moving and showing off their outfits...it was kinda like that...except these mannequins were dancing. They were strutting it with a little more hood...to Dorrough - Ice Cream Paint Job. I looked over at my friend Katie "Should We?"..."Yeahhh Buddy!!!". I went straight for the sale rack and found this orange little number cute as can be perfect for my upcoming Hawaii trip. I flipped to look at the tag and saw $7...I looked at it closer...can't be....no way...maybe its supposed to be $17. Oh no girlfriend...it rang up $7...YESSSSS!!! She put it in a cute clear gift bag with dots and made it all pretty with pretty purple tissue paper (my favorite color...extra points!). Disclaimer: Not everything in here is that cheap. They've got bangles from $12-26 dollars. Bags up to $60 dollars. Jackets $60-100 dollars. Maybe that day was just my lucky day... read more

A cute surprise! I really liked the selection at this boutique that's sandwiched between Bank of America and Ace Hardware's parking lot. They had a lot of cute tops, dresses, and accessories, at pretty reasonable prices (I'm helllllla cheap, so probably most of you would consider their prices extremely affordable.) The owner was really nice and the vibe was very down-to-earth and comfortable -- no "you're not hip enough to be shopping here" feeling like you get in, say, Hayes Valley. The storefront window always features the cutest outfits, and when I popped in to check out this adorable brown dress it was only $36! (Hey, even my broke ass was okay with that.) The store is small and appealingly-organized, and has accessories and small gifts as well as clothing. Especially nice to see in the Laurel since the previous owners of this shop (under another name) only sold cards and things, I believe. We need more cool local merchants AND we need cute clothes! Addendum: I have since bought three handbags, two pairs of earrings, two bracelets, two dresses, the PERFECT pair of jeans, and a cute blouse as a gift for one of my best girlfriends! Mizaan!!! This place is the greatest. The items that I have purchased I SOOOOOOOOOOOOO many compliments. Pricing is key for everything. Their pricing is right in line with my budget (that is when I stay within the budget) They have everyone's sizes from XS-3X. I like that because everyone can shop there and they don't seperate the sizes, so no matter what your size you are bound to find the perfect outfit. Another point, they know their inventory, if they don't have it, if possible they will order more TOO SWEET!!! The staff is very pleasant, warm and welcoming. Although Im a little thick and they dont seem to carry my size, I love their accessories. good selection of one of kind necklaceses. they hand make the earrings. Their display window always pops with stylish pieces that will make you want to go into the store. This is a great little store! Their clothes are so cute and trendy but wearable. The bag selection is phenomenal. I want them all! I had to stop going inside because I bought something every single time I went in. The prices are great. This isn't "investment dressing" stuff but fun clothes at really good prices. Great jewelry too! The service is excellent and they do package it up in cute purple paper and bag. The only issue I have is that they aren't open sometimes when they are supposed to be.
