Great store! This concept makes so much sense--why buy new when you can thrift baby clothes that they'll only wear a few times before outgrowing them? Even better, you can bring items back to sell once you're done with them (as long as they are in season and current style). The prices are also noticeably lower than many other thrift stores. A few helpful things I learned from the owners: * Bring items that are currently in season * Make sure everything is clean (of course!) * They may not be able to accept everything, since they also purchase items from other sellers They also carry some new clothing and toys. I especially love the Bird & Bean and Dumpling pajamas--I've bought them as gifts for several people. On top of that, they offer books and maternity wear, which makes it a really well-rounded shop. Whenever she dons it she's showered with compliments. I was overcharged for a sale item. The nursing shirt was normally $32.99 and was on sale for $8.25, yet I was charged the full price. I was also charged a completely separate transaction for almost $27 that was not related to the items purchased. We traveled over 70 miles to visit this store and were ripped off. I'm so disappointed. Also, a warning to buyers, they do NOT pay attention to stains. Several of the nursing items I would have purchased had oil of some sort of other stains, yet they were charging an outrageous amount. We're still waiting to hear from the manager or owner on the overcharge and 2nd false charge. Hoping they will be honorable since we don't live in the area. UPDATE: I did receive a call and was refunded for overcharge. I appreciate the call and the apology. I haven't decided whether or not it's worth the drive to visit again. However, if we are in the area for other reasons, we may consider stopping by. read more

WHEN: Wed @11am I came here with some baby and maternity clothes to sell. Here's what you should know: The co-owner Naomi is a mom too! So she is very knowledgeable and will update on the website when she isn't able to buy due to child events such as doc appts and parent teacher conferences! So either call in to check on buying hours or go to the site! Otherwise, they only buy: Tuesday-Friday 10am-2pm No appts needed If she buys any items she's under 2 years old, you will receive credit, not cash. When you receive store credit, it is good for a year and they will just need your basic information (name and phone number) so you don't have to worry about carrying any slips! Anyway, even during extra busy times, Naomi went through my items and actually folded the items she did not buy neatly in my bag! The wait while she went through my items was just long enough for me to check out the shop! She not only sell items for babies and toddlers, she also sells for expecting mommies--clothes and care items including non-alcoholic gin! Definitely check this cozy shop out when you get a chance! I have been a customer here since 2019 with my first born. They no longer take strollers and large gear. If they take anything that's not clothes or toys, they will consign it for three months. My experience has been that consignment items do sell. They only take seasonal clothing and they buy depending on what they already have in the store. All in all I appreciate their business. I love being able to make a little extra money for the items I bring in and being able to buy a random item I need from them. Their store is pretty well organized and has a selection of brand new items to shop from. I like that their website is up to date with whatever is in the store and they will let you pay for the items online or you can purchase with your store credits by calling in. I have told many friends about this place and put this store on my registry to encourage friends to buy second hand. Consignment and selling stuff can be a little tricky because it's about the sensitivity of buying people's stuff. I find that the owners occasionally communicate with the tone that comes off as rude, cranky or impatient. I have brushed it off but truthfully I'd prefer not to have to do that. read more

I've shopped and sold items at multiple kids consignment stores in the Oakland/Alameda area and this is definitely one of the best! They also carry new and used maternity and nursing clothes. I've been searching for nursing bras and there are very few places that carry them in stores so you can try them on these days, They had 15+ gently used bras in my size, I was able to try on and walked away with several kindred bravely and motherhood maternity bras for $12 each, including one new with tags. They are always courteous and kind when you shop and sell items there, even if they don't need anything (though I've found that when i bring in 1-2 bags of clean, great condition, in season items they have always taken at lest some). For gear like carriers, you can call ahead and ask whether they would take a specific item. I've also found a lot of great clothes at reasonable prices for both my kids here, including brands like Tea and Primary. read more

Love this place! I've come here quite a lot in the past couple years to buy and sell maternity clothes, baby gear, and clothes for my kids. I recommend it to all my friends. They are a fairly small store, so sometimes you may not be able to find what you're specifically looking for, but I think that's the case with any second-hand store. They do keep their website and IG pretty updated, so you can always scope it out there before going. The second-hand stuff is all very fairly priced and in good condition. When selling, you have to be pretty strategic in bringing in-season, higher end stuff in good condition. But being able to get store credit is great! I love how they have such a great variety of different brands there's always something new to find. I usually place an order for pickup every week or two, which makes life so much easier for me since I have two under two (they definitely wouldn't let me shop in peace, lol). We're big fans of Mommy's Trading Post!! Our son is almost 1 now and we've found gems for him at all stages so far, including clothes from brands we love (like Patagonia, Primary, Carter's, and Baby Gap) and essentials for the never ending evolving needs (feeding supplies like spoons were such a good deal to grab secondhand). We live on the peninsula so honestly just shop online most often and have stuff shipped! I browse the site by his size or category and peak at what's new every once in awhile as I think ahead to what he needs next. So while going into the shop is always a delight, having our order shipped is so convenient and barely costs more than the bridge toll we'd pay to get there. Pro-tip: check their new arrivals online. I've finally figured out how to shop here! Now I'm much happier. Instead of popping in randomly to see what they have, you've got to stalk their new arrivals online to snag the secondhand gems - I've seen Hanna Andersson, Tea Collection, Primary, Magnolia Baby, Tiny Cottons, Kyte, Kickee Pants, etc. The rest of the secondhand selection is mostly (Carters) play clothes, priced very reasonably. And of course there is the brand new stuff - I found a nice Colored Organics romper on sale, for less than I would have paid online. I also tried selling (trading) for the first time and I got a tiny bit of credit for things bub has outgrown. The amount was minimal, so I probably won't trade things I know I can sell online for more. I still think this shop could use a major reorganization, but I guess their intention is to highlight the "brand new" inventory - with the secondhand stuff being a bonus? I'd also prefer that they wipe down some of the secondhand gear items coming in before displaying it for sale - I'll probably just stick to buying clothes here until that improves. read more

If you're pregnant, have little ones, or need a gift then MTP is a must. They buy/sell kid items and have plenty of what you need. Most items are second hand but some are brand new. All good condition. The pricing is so reasonable and just makes you feel better that you're being sustainable and saving money overall. They do a great job with posting new items on their IG page so a few times I'll see something, buy it online, and with Covid Times right now you can either do curbside pickup or like me schedule a 30 minute window to pick up so you can shop. Ive bought maternity clothes/books, baby clothes, toys,..recently some awesome Jordan's and wearable blankets. I love supporting this place and glad they are in Alameda. Also during Covid Times for items that qualify for delivery they'll do that if you spend more than $30. read more

Our family loves Mommy's Trading Post! We've bought so much great gear, clothes, shoes, and toys over the years here. I've also sold clothes and consigned and it's such a nice way to get some value back from gently used items. I love their purchase online and pickup in store option as someone who doesn't live in Alameda and can't make it into browse easily otherwise. I wish I would have known about it sooner, as it's an especially awesome concept for the maternity and baby gear that can be so $$$ and you use for such a relatively short time. It's full of the best deals for good quality second hand baby and parent treasures! They have some of my favorite brands like Zutano, Melissa and Doug toys, and lots of maternity and postpartum clothing. I just bought a Stokke high chair there for a fraction of retail, and in mint condition! This has been a central gathering place for Alameda county families and while they can't do as many community events right now, they continue to be a place to stay connected to each other during these unique times. I would not recommend this bustiness as a place to consign clothes. They seem to only want very high end brands (e.g Cat and Jack) and were rude when I brought in a mix of brands to consign, telling me they don't buy "cheap" clothing. The look on the person's face who went through my clothes was very condescending even though they were in in excellent used condition, some with tags still on. I also was sold a bath item that I was told I could take home and clean (after I paid for it!) but I ended up having to return as it was so grimy I could not get it sanitary to use with my child. I don't understand why they would take such dirty physical items and then look down on clean children's clothes, so I won't be back. I would rather donate my clothing to a place like La Clinica Altavista where the organizers are grateful for all items and find ways to pass them on to those who can use them. read more

This place is my FAVORITE for kid's clothes, gear, and birthday presents. I've gotten so many adorable and cheap lightly-used clothes for my 2 young kiddos over the years. Last week I picked up 2 pairs of sparkly TOMS for my toddler for less than $20. I'm obsessed. They also regularly carry really solid gear options. I've gotten a used Pack-n-Play, bouncer, and car seat over the past couple years. Why would you buy brand new gear that the kiddo only uses for a few months? I love the idea of re-using gear and clothes for the sake of our environment. You know that baby walker you're about to order, they have it... how about that contraption to wash bottle parts in the dishwasher, or water shoes, or sun hats, or a high chair.... the list goes on and on. We just moved from Bernal Heights in SF where the kids consignment shop is struggling (for a variety of reasons, one of them being an opaque consignment process). One of the things MTP is doing right is immediately giving you store credit for the clothes you bring in. I wish I'd found this place when my kiddo was younger! They have used clothing that they verify is in good condition and organize by size, which makes it a lot easier to look through things than at Goodwill. They have baby and kid clothes up through size 10, although there is not as much once you get past size 5, and they have maternity clothes and children's shoes as well. They also have new items, such as clothing, books, and toys, and other children's items. The best thing about this place is that you can bring bags of used clothing and shoes for store credit or cash -- just note that they will only take what they think they can sell in the next few months, so I recommend against bringing anything out of season or too worn. They will go through your bags and pick out the things they want to buy from you, and give you back the rest to take home, so it's good to know that in advance. Since there aren't that many, please bring more clothes size 5 to 10 children sizes! If your children are older and you won't use the store credit, just get the cash instead! read more

It is said that "you never get a second chance to make a first impression"... from the moment I spoke with one of the owners briefly the phone I was very impressed.(Not sure what owners name was but it was the one with dark straight short hair..she's always been approachable and professional.) I had just gotten out of the ICU after a traumatic child birth,(my Babygirl was still in the NICU so needless to say this was a very emotional time for me), and my milk had just come in. I literally came into this store leaking,(if you know then you know), desperate for an affordable used breast pump + pumping/nursing bras. The owner took a significant amount of time walking me through the store, allowing me to try on items and was extremely patient,(my MIL was with me and is hard of hearing and was literally walking around the store on the phone with her conversation on speaker ‍ so rude smh), and the owner was pretty cool about it. During my first visit She helped me find some bras, a pump and everything else I needed at insanely good prices. Fast forward to this last 8 months: I visit this store at least twice a month. One of their employees "Linda" literally is a gem. I adore her and she always helps me and my two girls find the cutest clothing and most needed gear they have in stock. She's literally the best and I hope she never leaves the store! The owners are pretty decent with what they'll buy from you and are 100% fair with what they pay you, as well as their retail prices. I never leave empty handed. This store has been such a blessing in the last year I discovered it. Seriously a staple in Alameda. I'm moving up north to the El Dorado Hills and I will have no issue driving an hour and a half to come shopping here and say hello to my favorite girl Linda! 95% of my maternity clothing and gear was purchased at MTP (maternity pillow? At 60% off retail? Yes please!). I love that I can go in every other week and find new stuff. They're somewhat picky about what they take, which is why it is the best place to shop. They only carry cute stuff! They will accommodate a baby shower wishlist. After I had my shower, I went in with my list of needs and bought almost every single thing left for less than half of what I would have paid full retail. My tip is to call ahead of time if you're looking to sell bigger stuff because sometimes they already have 5 of those things, or they know those don't sell. The ladies who work there are beyond knowledgeable and patient and will tell you everything you need to know about anything. The best part of selling here is that I don't have to sell it myself! A garage sale is an entire day's work, selling less than half of what I put out. On a good day, I'd make myself 1/3 of minimum wage. Anything they don't take, I have them donate. Which is awesome, because I am not about to spend hours on the internet to make $2 more by selling that onesie myself on Craigslist, and while it doesn't sell, I certainly don't want it sitting in my car for the rest of eternity. I don't know about most people, but if I can even make a couple dollars credit on something I have already used and don't need anymore, I am a very happy camper.
