So we are on vacation here in Sc and the kids decided they wanted chicken and rice. They have a kids option with chicken, rice, a Japanese treat and a drink for 7.99 great deal right? So we get it, the food is delicious....however smallest kids portion ever lol. It's perfect for my 6 year old but not great for my 10 year old, because she ended up eating the meal, half a bag of broccoli and then asked for French fries. I was in town in September and I was in the area and I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Mon Cafe was still open. The reason I say this is because I used to eat at Mon Cafe all the time as a high school student almost 20 years ago so it's also nostalgic to know that the restaurant is still here and the quality and prices are still as great. I got my typical order that I used to order even when I was in high school lol. You know sometimes when you attend or when you visit certain restaurants that you haven't been to in a long time it's either really bad or really good or just the same in this case it was really good. The service was still great the food was quick as usual and the restaurant itself overall was very clean...Look with Mon Cafe there's not much to say about it other than it's 100% worth it. We stop in here every time we are nearby. Always good !! The staff is nice, the restaurant is super clean including the restrooms. They literally spray off every table and the chairs between patrons. We got teriyaki bowls and steak bowls. Both delicious and the serving size is perfect. I get the Junior bowl and it's plenty. They have authentic white sauce and their meats and veggies are very fresh. They have went up on their prices a bit. Inflation I guess ? They do offer a rewards program, $10 off every $50 you spent. The side order of tempura shrimp and vegetables was also good but not great. The sauces were the absolute star of the show as the miso barbecue sauce would taste great on just about anything. I love quick hibachi places and this is one of the best I've had. All your typical options are available with some sushi rolls as well. Stopped in tonight and I ordered the chicken and shrimp meal. Each plate comes with a heaping helping of rice, zucchini, and onions. My friend ordered the steak and chicken but asked to add broccoli as well. Then we added a spicy crab roll to split. The quality of the steak, shrimp, and chicken was all top notch. I usually wouldn't go for the steak option at the quick hibachi places just because I'm pretty picky about steak. I tried my friends and would recommend it all day. They spruced up the decor a bit so it feels a little nicer which is a welcomed touch. The service was excellent and you could tell that they truly wanted to make sure you had a good experience. I will be back for sure. read more

The restaurant is a little out dated and the food a while to make(at least a 18 minute wait). It was also a bit unsanitary as when I sat down at the table, the chair and table was dirty. Ok Yelpers, on your advice, I gave Mon Cafe Japan a try with my husband tonight. We had hibachi fillet mignon with zucchini, onions, mushrooms and although we asked for brown rice, we got white rice. Being a newcomer, we obtained one of their cards and received immediate $5 off our meals. We were given thin plastic cups, so we could help ourselves to our own beverages. We sat at a table and a woman brought us our meals on a plastic tray. As rough as the tableware was, the food was delicious and our bellies were full when we left. With the discount, our meals came to $30 for two. We didn't have any leftovers, but we left full and content. This is not a fancy place to eat, but the food is good and we'll be back. read more

Excellent food at a reasonable price! There are a number of hibachi places around town, but Mon Café Japan is my wife's and my favorite. We come here probably once or twice a month on average (we work together, so we go to lunch together frequently). The portions are generous, and the quality is top-notch. You can tell the chicken, shrimp, and steak in the lunch specials is high quality. Everything is cooked fresh to order, and it'll cost you just a couple bucks more than McD's for a meal infinitely better. I got the Australian sea bass and shrimp meal one time, to hashtag treat myself, and it was one of the best lunches I've ever had... for like $13! But it's the subtle things you might not notice on a first visit that count... the place is full of plants, but they are all happy and healthy and dust-free. The soda fountain has filtered water, so sodas are nice and crisp tasting. Sure, the place has some weird ticks (like the weird channel they always have on their satellite radio with music I've NEVER heard...) to it that might throw you off a little bit on your first visit... like there are custom-printed signs EVERYWHERE. And about everything (from specials to not using free water cups to fill them with Sprite,) but I think the owner is just a little bit Type A personality. But I'm willing to ignore that for just how good the food is. Everything from the rice to the veggies to the meats in your meal... you will leave with a full tummy and a happier disposition than when you entered.
