It was barely OK,This is not an "Italian" restaurant as stated. Not sure how I would define it, but it really wasn't good. My husband ordered sea scallops- he received 3- (cut in half to make it look like more) one small mound of white rice ,and a small serving of vegetables. He was STARVING when we left. I had the vegetable lasagna, which was basically noodles with peas ( yes, peas) and mixed probably canned vegetables layered in. Arrived here mid week for dinner, seated quickly and served our menus including the specials. We opted for the dinner for two, came with pre-selected wine (red or white) and a variety of 4 main dishes. I chose the pork while my partner choice was chicken piccatta. The wine we chose was white, and it was truly awful. Bitter, with a nasty metal under note and what I could best describe as a very acidic almost vinger taste. Save yourself the trouble and don't cheap out on this part. The bread was piping hot and fresh, which I was hoping for a preview of good things to come. The veggies we're cooked well but must have been seasoned with butter that was in a fridge which also kept seafood. There was NO mistaking the fish taste, and my partner does not like fish so she was let down by this. The potatoes were cooked well but the nutmeg and cinnamon that somehow made it to the pan was a weird experience. Not a fan. The chicken piccatta was very good, light, and citrusy with just the right amount of white wine. We ordered dessert, and I ordered the rice pudding while she ordered the Bailey's tort. The pudding I was told was home made, but it too was pretty lacking. The rice was grainy and really dry, no matter how much whip cream was put on. The cake was store bought, so it was OK. Our final take on the whole thing...food was OK, not the best but not the worse either. The staff is great, attentive and friendly. it's really dark inside, but added a charm to the place. Really good food here. The bread was AMAZING, and that's an important part of my criteria for assessing Italian restaurants. They give you warm, crunchy, hard rolls and butter that they quite possibly make themselves. I had fettuccine Alfredo with breaded chicken that I requested be added on, and that was also great. It's creamy and has a rich flavor. The portion size is big enough that I got two meals out of it. Some of the lettuce in the salad was extremely wilted, but I felt like that was minor since they could easily be picked out. The only other thing I don't love about this place is the vibe - it just seems dated. But if you're looking for a solid meal in the area definitely come here. They also have a ladies night special on Thursdays and for $20 you get an app, dinner, and dessert, which is a really good price. My mom got it and really enjoyed it, especially the shrimp appetizer. Our waitress has a good personality and we like talking to her whenever we go! The Groupon that they offer is a good deal as well! It's nice that they have various dinner and happy hour specials every day, which is always something different that we usually don't have at home! The Zuppe de Pesche dish is out of this world, especially if you get the one for two. Its definitely worth the money for sure! Whoever cooks the food does an excellent job in making it! I've been to Mona Lisa and used to love it. The last two times it really went downhill. The lettuce in my salad was frozen, the asparagus was clearly old and they had to cut the tips off most of the spears. I ordered a special and it seemed like the reason it was a special was to use up all the old stale product they had. I suddenly found myself thinking of all those kitchen nightmare episodes where if you saw the food in their storage area you would never eat it. Went to lunch with a friend. We were the only people in the restaurant and thought it may not be popular. No one even in the bar. We wanted to talk, but the server kept coming over hovering and talking and pushing us to have dessert when we didn't want it. We're a little bit in love with this place. We started going when we were right down the road, and now we make 45-minute pilgrimages there for a special treat. We appreciate that it's usually a quiet place to eat, with large tables and many sectioned-off areas to help foster a feeling of privacy. The staff there remembers us, even if we haven't been around in months, and even remembers details about things we mentioned in previous visits. The food is always above average to excellent -- and as a fish snob who grew up on the coast of Narragansett and worked off fishing boats, I'm never disappointed by it (especially their chowder). The specials are always tempting and original, and the menu has a great blend of "go-to" items for people who want to order something familiar, as well as things for the more adventurous type. We've also made a few custom orders during our time there, which were always cheerfully received and well prepared (even when I was pretty ambiguous about them). Parking is usually pretty good, but when they _are_ busy, or it's snowed, sometimes you have to park in the slightly sketchy dirt parking area nearby. The deserts are just average, especially in terms of creativity, but they're pretty good, particularly their chocolate lava cake.
