Exceptional Service at Monahan's (the name you can trust in fine jewelry) In December I decided that even though it seemed rushed, my girlfriend Cassie of 7 years (now fiancée) deserved a ring instead of just flowers for our anniversary. I had no idea where to start so I decided to go with Monahan's since their catchy jingle from the commercial was stuck in my head, and they are locally owned. From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted by Jenica, who immediately made me feel comfortable and valued as a customer (not the normal sales vibe where they tell you what you want to hear)... I held my hand out and said look how nasty my fingers look from hard work, most people making the sale would have said no they look great... not Jenica, she laughed and said I'm sure they clean up nice and suggested I put them in my pockets so no one else could see them.. I made the last part up. But seriously, it felt genuine from the start. I brought my now fiancée with me because I wanted to make sure I had an idea of what she would like. Jenica took the time to understand what she was looking for, and offered me a beer while they talked (that brought a tear to my eye). She patiently talked through various options, explaining the differences in quality, style, and craftsmanship. Her knowledge and passion for jewelry were evident, and her recommendations were thoughtful rather than pushy. Now Cassie had picked out a couple of rings she liked it was time to discuss budget with Jenica. She told Cassie to go look around the store at other stuff (I was thinking waiting in the truck sounded like a better idea to me since I'm already poor) . Jenica encouraged me to take my time as this was a huge decision. Thanks to her expertise, I found the perfect piece, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. 3 weeks later I actually went back and upgraded to a larger stone and upgraded ring with diamond setting. (I probably didn't use the right wording but I got her something reeeeelllly nice) The entire experience was seamless, from selection to checkout, and the customer service was truly top-notch. Couple of months ago, I went to Monahans for the first time to sell some sterling silver pieces that I didn't really need. Although the store was beautiful and the three employees who assisted me were nice enough...they could not read every silver marking on the pieces I brought in, even with a loop, and asked for my help. I had even marked some of the items prior to bringing them in, and polished them, so the Sterling or 925 would be easy to see. This took a long time. They also dropped a couple of my items, resulting in dents. To add insult to injury, I was offered what I considered a low price, knowing the current silver prices at that time, and the weight of my items. When I questioned the offer, the amount changed - an additional $10. Not wanting or hoping it to be worth more, but knowing it was worth more, I left. The next day I went to another shop and walked out not even 5 minutes later with $60 more than Monahans had offered. I don't know if this is everyone's experience with trying to sell at Monahans. But I won't be going back. read more

Monohan's Shoddy Workmanship Cost Me Thousands I brought my wife's ring to Monohan Jewelers to repair a pulled prong on the ring and replace the center diamond with a high quality, one carat + diamond. Monohan's repaired the ring and replaced the diamond which cost thousands of dollars. After wearing the ring for three weeks the center diamond feel from the ring. The ring was never properly repaired. When I returned to Monohan's I was told very curtly that there was no warranty and Monohan's did not replace lost diamonds. Our associate, Elerie (sp?), was down to Earth, and knew right away the style of ring I was looking for (vintage with a highlighted topaz or aquamarine stone being the center piece). She helped me find four different rings or settings I loved. Additionally, she helped my fiancé size for his wedding band, and had advice on alternate metals, as that is the type of ring he wants.
