I changed it up and had a mezcal old fashioned. Bartender killed it! Love the smokiness of the mezcal and a silky smooth cocktail all around. Just WOW. I've been wanting to come for a very long time and just made it. The Crab Loaded fries were AMAZING!!!!! Definitely worth it! This place is cute. It's not as big as I thought it would have been. Each owner/worker was extremely nice. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon with my family. We walked around to each stall. The place, including the seating area and restaurants, were clean and looked tasty. I at the Korean from Seoul Good. I was highly disappointed by the Korean Dog because there was no hotdog inside. It was just breading, cheese and Cheeto dust. For the money, it was not worth it. I also ordered the Bugogli steak bowl. It was good although I could have done without the spring lettuce. I think I would have liked it better if there was raw or slightly cooked cabbage. We also had chicken fingers and fries from Just Chicken. It was really good. The hand cut fries were exceptional. Good/easy place to get dinner before a show at the Belk Theater (across the street). The vendors have swapped out a bit and there is still a wide variety of options that make it super easy for large groups to meet, drink, eat.... and go to a show. All the staffers and the food stalls are super friendly... I know the "prime" location of this market and probably operating costs results in higher prices passed onto customers, but I am glad this is uptown and hopefully they stick around for a while. Looks like they have event space (upstairs), but like my fellow yelpers, please go and review the food stalls individually - overall they all share the responsibility of the clean up of all the tables and the space (which have always been super clean when I've been). My favorite spot is the sushi spot here... the bar (and the employees) are a nice hang out spot (they have TVs to watch sports) or if you are like me, and super nosy.... I ordered from Monarch Market had the krispy orange chicken bowl to go. It came with rice, cabbage and vegetables. It was just so tasty I can wait to go back an experience something else. The service was just amazing. I thought it was a little overpriced for what I got but the food was pretty good. While not really worth it I may go back. So, in concept this place is cool, but there should be individual food counters in here listed on yelp. I tried the Mexican food counter and was very disappointed. Staff were mediocre. I ordered arroz con pollo. Got some grilled chicken strips (ok) served on a bed of Mexican rice (not very good) with some queso sauce drizzled over it (not good). 2 small flour tortillas and semi-stale chips on the side. They food was almost inedible. If you've ever had and enjoyed Mexican food literally anywhere else, don't get it here. It was so bad I had to throw most of it away. read more

Absolutely beautiful new food market with multiple restaurants under one roof. Great place to unwind with friends or solo. However be warned, food definitely isn't cheap but guess that's the way of the world we're in now. I tried the burger place and for burger/fries and NO drink came up to $25 because everything sold separately. I looked at the menu for the seafood place in there and a lobster roll was abt $28 I believe with no side. So for sure come prepared to spend some money no matter where you chose to eat. I went early on a Saturday morning before a show at Belk Theater so wasn't a crowd at all which I loved but I can imagine it can get packed later it gets especially on the wkend. I did try the open air bar too right out front which is really nice on a beautiful day to enjoy a beverage while people watching the street. read more

Was excited to try this! I love all food hall style restaurants and this one was enjoyable. It is a smaller space with lots of tables and they fit a surprising amount of vendors. I love a food hall especially when it's in the heart of uptown and right across the street from Blumenthal. My wife and I frequently attend shows at Blumenthal and often times try to tie in a dinner or drinks before the show. I prefer to find something within walking distance which there are several options but Monarch has just expanded those options exponentially. Our first trip to Monarch was towards the end of summer/ early fall where the outdoor bar was still open. We unknowingly saw the open bar from across the street and decided to grab a few drinks. It was then that we realized there are several food options. We had just eaten so we settle on a couple of drinks with the promise that we would return to try the food. The bar was great as the servers were quick and the drinks were good. We didn't have any custom cocktails so not much to rate other than they had a great selection. They have custom cocktails available but we didn't get any. On our second visit to Monarch we planned to eat dinner and take advantage of the many options. I landed on Maroon Market which I was quickly disappointed. I tried to order several things and everything i tried to order they were out of. This was very frustrating but I'll give them another shot on my next visit and hopefully they will be better stocked. Since I couldn't get what I wanted at Maroon Market I slide a couple of spots down to Seoul Good which was a great experience. The lady service was super nice and helpful. We ordered one of their custom corndogs (half cheese half corn dog) which was an interesting concept. They have additional options of breading that range from panko to crumbled hot cheetos (or something similar). These were actually much better than I expected. I also ordered the tofu rice bowl. I wasn't a fan of how the tofu was cooked but overall it was a delicious meal and very filling. read more

I finally made it to Monarch Market. A cute little gem nestled in the heart of uptown charlotte. Decided to come here for lunch with my friend. I was a bit underwhelmed when we arrived inside as there weren't that many options. I'm not sure why I thought this place was larger and had more options. Non the less we made the best of it! It's tight, not very much seating. Luckily, it wasn't too bad when we arrived, but I can see it getting pretty packed pretty quickly. There are about 10 restaurants and two bars, one bar on the main level and one on the upper level. The one on the main level offers covered outdoor seating, which is really nice ( I didn't get to go to the one upstairs). The cleaning staff were really nice, which is more than I could say for restaurant staff, most were on their phones and I found myself having to wait to grab their attention. With the exception of "Dock Local" - The young lady who took my order was nice and offered recommendations. Although, I did witness the cook eating in the area where the food was being prepared, and that was so off putting, had I seen that before I ordered, I would have never chosen them. I'm glad I got to stop by and try this place out. A bit smaller than the other food halls with limited options, it would be nice if they had a dessert bar or ice cream place to take things to the next level. I would not go out of my way to come back here. However, if I'm ever in the area, I'd stop by again and try some new things! read more

I forgot the name of it. It is a bit pricey at $17 including tip, but it was definitely a well-balanced smoky, spicy drink. Overall, we were a bit surprised to find this food court to be open and what appears to be mostly corporate setting on a Sunday afternoon. But parking was fairly convenient, I won't comment on how much of a value it was because I haven't paid to leave yet, but given the downtown location, this was definitely a bit of a diamond in the rough, being open on a Sunday afternoon. read more

It's easy to place the order, pay for it and pick up your food. The ambiance can be a little noisy depending on the time of day but it's always a pleasant experience when I am here. read more

I can't wait to come back and sit in the open patio that looks out onto Tyron street. I tried the Japanese places Bulgogi bim bop (their name, not mine). The portion was tiny compared to what the owners used to serve when they were located at Latta Arcade. This completely covered outdoor bar is unique with its tropical flair and lots of comfy bar seating. There is also a couch area with great seating options. I got the sunrise temple which was AMAZING. I am a bourbon fan but even if not, this drink masks the kick that bourbon can sometimes bring. The turmeric was magnificent! Another food hall that I feel like is overpriced and the quality of the food isn't worth it. Parking is in the parking garage and they'll validate it so I believe you get 5$ off. Everything is on the first floor and I believe there are about 6 restaurants in there and one bar. The drinks are good, normal price drinks but the food is a little overprice for the size. I got the Lao sausage and it's not good. Way better sausage at the Lao place near airport. The salmon caparaccio was good and delicious, I like the seaweed and carrot addition. service is good, your food comes out pretty fast. The ambiance is cute and cozy. This food court (or market) was very cute and reminded me of the mall food courts you'd find back at home, except very unique in the different cuisines available. I for some reason decided to choose to eat from Brooklyn Dumpling Shop... and being I'm from the tri-state area, I guess it was a piece of home on my vacation . Overall, food was pretty salty, but I guess you would expect that eating out... But there was no "WOW" factor. The white rice was pretty mushy which made everything taste mushy in general... But I would say the shrimp was very crisp! Not a place that's on my A-list, but a good place if you're not sure what you want to eat or need to stop by for a quick meal. read more

I really enjoyed this spot! We stopped here before seeing THE WIZ at the Blumenthal Theater and it made it super convenient! Not all stall are filled in but the website lets you know who is coming. Hubby ate from Barley and Burger and I ate from Rolled AF. My shrimp burrito bowl was so tasty and flavorful! Everything was great even down to the staff. Hubby loved his food and was satisfied. We also had a bourbon punch from the bar and it was nice. I had trouble finding the restroom at first. There is a map on their website. But when I got in there I loved it! I am huge on butterflies for sentimental reasons and the namesake didn't disappoint! Looking around the place, I saw some wall art and there is dedicated staff consistently cleaning and being so friendly about taking your trash away. That is an element missing at other food halls/markets in our area. I am not sure if I will return without coming to uptown for other reason due to parking, but if I am on the light rail or attending another show or game, I will have to return! Especially on a weekend so I can compare the table availability and to check out Sushi Art and the Aster cocktail bar upstairs. read more

I have been very excited about this opening and I was there when the stalls officially opened to the public! It got pretty packed inside after awhile but there is plenty of seating and the space is a nice size. We had a little opening day excitement when someone left a pot unattended and it caught on fire! That was entertaining for about 10 mins but thankfully they got it under control and no one was hurt. I love that there are 3 bars! One outside, one inside and I think one upstairs. I was on my lunch break so I'll come back for that but the bars are a good size. There is also a lot of seating inside, outside, upstairs and downstairs. I was torn about what to try on this visit but I went with the burger from Barley and Burger after I glanced at their IG. I ordered the truffle shuffle and it was amazing! Perfectly moist, perfectly filling and I thought the caramelized onions really added to the flavor. I got a side of waffle fries but next time I'd like to try their pickle fries. The downside of the food hall is that there's not a lot of space for customers standing in the line and they kind of end up standing between tables as they wait to order. But this is a neat hang out spot. They have a projector playing sports, movies, whatever, and I love that there's such a variety of food - something for everyone. They advertised a Chinese chicken dish with scallions and they brought out Tyson chicken nuggets-yes, really- in a bland red sauce with no scallions and parboiled rice. $15 something odd dollars for this. Rip off central for terrible quality food. Burger place is solid. Seoul Good is Seoul bad. The sushi place used to be the best sushi in Uptown and quickly cut corners or changed chefs because quality and taste declined and tastes cheap. Plenty of seating and the bar is big with quick service. $20 for a burger and fries. Burger patty it's self was not thick. $20 for the chicken tender basket and fries. Sushi is priced great! $8-12 for rolls! The 3 friends who has sushi, all are happy with it. $8 beers and Omg the wine - nothing under $14 for a 4 ounce pour! We visited Monarch Market this past weekend and wow! This is such a cool place with an indoor and outdoor bar, room for outdoor seating and excellent margaritas. Can't wait for summer and slurp on a drink after work. We walked around and see all the different food stall and noticed the high prices. I understand the cost of food went up, however it won't be a good 9-5 option from Monday through Friday. $20 for a weekday lunch is not sustainable. However we had curry gate, and it was just as good as the original curry gate and the price was very reasonable. My Palak Paneer with jasmine rice was $12. It will definitely a go to place for a drink and once in a while for a special lunch. read more

So I have fallen in love with the Monarch Market and its food vendors, making this (sidebar) review specific to Lanai Terrace Bar only. I have 15-mins before my guy picks me up from work and decide to stop in for a quick drink while I wait. First bartender was friendly, smiles and greets me, but walks away. Next bartender asks if I'm being helped (no...) and takes my order. I tell him I'm just having what he called "one and done" (I like that term). I order Jameson whiskey, no ice. He puts a shot glass in front of me and hands me a computerized tab machine thingy for $16.95 (pre-gratuity!) Now don't get me wrong, I've worked in New York City for almost 30 years, I know Hoity Toity when I see it and have been thrown out of much classier joints, but Terrace Bar... Charlotte, NC ain't there yet. Sure, Axios has dubbed Uptown Charlotte the "Financial District." Yes, you are directly across the street from one of the largest financial institutions in the world. But not all Uptown employees are C-Suite Execs, and most southerners pride themselves on NOT being superficial and pretentious. Meaning, they have no intentions on dropping $100 on a bar tab (sans food) just for after work drinks with friends. I organize a quarterly "Uptown Girlz" night out, and I regret to say Terrace Bar will not be added to my list of future venues to hit. The surrounding restaurants have way more to offer for the price. And to the bartender who served me Jameson Whiskey in a shot glass... "Shame on you!" Go back to training to be further educated on how to select the proper drink glass. Hell, I am a lady!!! I would have been happier if you gave me a paper bag and a straw. This is my 3rd Food Hall in Charlotte. It is nice located in the middle of uptown so I like it more suited for people of work down there. It was really modern with great seating. I've tried a couple of restaurants and loved some while others were just ok. 1) Curry gate was a huge disappointment. It's better to pick up from their 24th street which isn't too far from uptown. The prices are close but the portion size at Monarch are half what you would get at their restaurant. The options are also very limited! 2) Thai place was a disappointment!! The papaya salad had a weird fishy taste and even though the server tried to fix it by giving me extra sauce, it still wasn't good. The coconut dessert was good but a bit too sugary for me. 3) Burger place was delish! Burgers are well done though since they're smashed. The fries and burger were made to order so everything was hot and fresh! 4) Kebab to go was good but the meat platter is a bit oily. The pita bread on the bottom was drenched in oil so good for once in a while indulgence. The salad and rice that come with it was good too! 5) Not sure what the Asian place is called. You pick your carb (rice, fries or greens) pick your chicken and sauce. It was good but my fries were not cooked all the way. The sauce was good and I was given another kind to try. This boujee food hall is similar to optimist hall but with better food. We ordered from Focaccina and got these amazing, crispy sandwiches ! The owner of Focaccina was super helpful and even let us taste a little of their truffle ingredient since we didn't know what it was.
