The actual restaurant is on the 3rd floor and when the elevator doors opened we were instantly in awe. Our waiter did an excellent job of explaining the difference in items we had questions about and offered suggestions. He made sure our cups were never empty and consistently checked on us. Now, for the main event...THE FOOD!!! We had Truffle fries as the appetizer, they were mid to say the least. I ordered a Caesar Salad(it was decent), the Branzino(whole fish), Broccolini, and the American baked potato. My meal was DELICIOUS!!! I finished my entire plate. Outside of me adding ground pepper to everything it was seasoned well. Around the table everyone said their meals were ok. The half roasted chicken was slightly bland for their taste and somewhat dry and they would have loved a sauce to go over. The chicken sandwich was said to be good, and the shrimp I heard were tasty. Desserts: Two cookies with a candle were brought out for the birthday girl, who also ordered a side of vanilla ice cream which was so good. I ordered the butterscotch brulee, I demolished it!! I came for brunch since the prices are somewhat reasonable, but would not return for dinner. What we tried: - Swedish pancakes 4/5: tasted like normal pancakes, very thin so a bit unique. Not too heavy, which I liked. - American breakfast 4/5: the eggs were the definite standout here... very flavorful and unique. However, everything else on the plate was lacking - the sausage was too oily for my liking, and the potatoes were very dry. The bread was a bit bland. The prices are on the higher side, but the food is great, the staff is nice, and the service is quick, making it well worth the spend. ​When you first walk into the building, I highly recommend taking the stairs instead of the elevator if you are capable. Walking up gives you a chance to look at the three levels of the building, which is beautiful and definitely picturesque. Once you are at the top in the restaurant, you get a great view of the surrounding greenery and down into the Charlotte area. ​I went for brunch and ended up ordering four or five dishes because everything looked so good. The coffee was excellent and the food was great. Some of the sides are smaller and other dishes are more mid-sized, and some are quite large - plenty of variation. Overall it was a great experience. RH Rooftop in Charlotte is hands down the best-looking restaurant in the city. Walking through feels more like touring a museum than going out to eat -- the building and furniture are incredible. Parking is easy and the whole experience of just being in the space makes it worth checking out. The rooftop is on an actual roof but there's not much outdoor seating, so most of the vibe is inside. Food was good overall, but uneven. The Branzino was excellent and easily the best dish of the night. The grilled shrimp were solid and worth ordering. The Asian salad was fine, nothing special but fresh. The Ribeye was average at best -- cooked fine but missing the flavor you expect when you order a steak here. All in, this place is more about the setting than the food. The meal won't blow you away across the board, but the atmosphere makes up for it. Not the best I've ever had but not the worst. The Caesar salad was delicious! The shrimp were well seasoned and the burger was delicious as well. The mashed potatoes were decent but maybe not something I would order from. It was a nice experience but not sure I would "have" to go back. But if someone said they were going there for an event I wouldn't be upset about it. The only thing I would say that's negative is the to go options are terrible. I had left over mashed potatoes and they gave me a huge box to take home. I asked if they had a bowl and the best they could do was a to go coffee cup. Charlotte's RH Rooftop has been on my must go list for years & I'm glad I finally made it. As someone who loves to be surrounded by beauty as often as possible, RH was a top-tier treat for all of my senses. From the swanky yet inviting exterior that gave more of a West Coast vibe and made me momentarily forget that I was in the QC, to the gorgeous decor that RH is known for, to the fabulous chandeliers that made me swoon...and all of this before I made it to the food! The rooftop area was gorgeous, service was great, and food was impeccable. My group started with a round of server-selected apps--we asked for his top three & Sir more than delivered. Creamy burrata, perfectly crisp artichoke (with potato slices mixed in as an unexpected & delicious touch), & some of the BEST grilled shrimp I've ever eaten. I rounded this out with the mini lobster rolls--not mad at the generous dollop of caviar to balance the tender creaminess of the lobster & crème fraiche--and truffle fries. This was my first time visiting. Let me say, the decor is gorgeous. I wish I had taken more pictures but I was already running late. I was part of a group there to celebrate a friend's birthday. Our table was situated on the third floor. The weather was perfect for being up there with the exposed air. The service was satisfactory. Our server got the job done but was not super attentive. One of the people in our group ordered bottles of Prosecco for the table to share. If you're planning a visit, be aware that they only serve beer and wine. I ordered the salmon for dinner. It was tasty but nothing to rave about. I also ordered a side of pureed potatoes. Both items were incredibly light. I'm a pretty light eater but I was able to finish my meal without feeling stuffed. I also tasted some of the broccolini that someone else ordered. Overall, while the vibe is super cute, I'm not sure that the quality of food and service makes up for the priciness. Absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere was incredible and had a lovely outdoor seating area. We loved the store below as well and the dreamy bar. Every portion we ordered was delightful and tasty! The crispy artichokes were definitely the star of the show and were the highlight. I think next time my husband and I might order two portions! The burrata was perfect as well, so creamy and delicious. My Chinese chicken salad was wonderful too! Only downside of this visit was the speed of service, which may have been because the kitchen was backed up because they seemed a bit busy. We had a reservation, but we would be arriving earlier than anticipated. I called to see if they could seat us sooner, and they accommodated us. Upon arriving, we were pleasantly greeted by several people at the hostess's desk. The decor and entire atmosphere were beyond pleasing. I loved not only the floor-to-ceiling windows letting in all the natural light, but the crystal chandeliers throughout. We were seated immediately. We were then escorted to our table, where our phenomenal server, Dennis, came to greet us and take our drink, appetizer, and entree orders. We had a Caesar Salad, which was good. The lettuce was cold, crispy, and fresh. Our entrees were the RH Burger, Fried Chicken Sandwich, and Sweet Potato Fries. Everything we ordered was delicious. A young lady named Nivea walked by, and she complimented me. I thanked her for her compliment. She then asked if we were there celebrating a birthday, anniversary, etc. I then told her I was celebrating my final cancer treatment. She then began to affirm my courage, strength, and ability to fight to live through that. It was then that she expressed how inspired she was by my situation, and she paid for my meal. Honest review: RH rooftop is sadly a disappointing restaurant. The Perception and reality of this restaurant is that social media and Instagram likes doesn't mean the quality and service is up to par. Regardless of price or not, there are so many things that can be improved upon for the price value. When a restaurant is perceived as "Instagram-light" but is disappointing, it signifies a misalignment between its marketing and reality, leading to a broken customer expectation. The restaurant excels at creating an aesthetic image for social media, attracting customers with visually appealing environment and decor, but fails to deliver on core aspects like food quality, taste, or a positive dining experience, resulting in a poor in-person experience Food quality is generic and poor compared to other restaurants at this price point. Service is bad and below standards in comparison to medium and high end restaurants in the area. Example: we came to celebrate my wife's birthday and my wife order the recommended steak by the waiter then brings back a "well done" steak when she specifically asked for it to be cooked "medium". The waiter had the nerve to say the steak is cooked correctly,and due to the lighting it looks "well done". She ultimately declined to even redo the steak since they were justifying themselves, she decided not to eat. At the end they agreed her steak was too well done. On the other hand now they told me that my steak was cooked perfect, "medium", even though mine was well done (see pics). They came back and gave me a raw steak, waiter noticed I wasn't eating it and then takes it back and try's to recook it but still comes back medium raw. At this point I was ready to leave. The icing on the cake was when they brought out 1 cookie with a candle on it for her birthday. Talk about a cheap restaurant!!!! We easily paid over $400 plus 20% gratuity for horrible services and we only had 7 people. They did remove both of our steaks since my wife no longer wanted it and I took only two bites of mine. (Thank you for that), but the birthday celebration was ruined! Ambiance is okay, definitely loud and hard to carry conversation if you are in a large group. Decor is definitely top notch! (No criticism there) Our waiter, needs more training in personality and service. If you don't want to serve people why the hell are you even in the service industry. Having an entitled attitude from a service industry worker can be especially jarring because it violates the unwritten social contract of hospitality. No manager ever approached us due to our steaks not being cooked properly. Not even to apologize for the inconvenience of the situation, especially knowing we are celebrating my wife's birthday. But despite the restaurant's impressive ambiance, the food and the service left us a bit underwhelmed on a recent visit. Heavy on salads and sandwiches, the menu just didn't have any entrees that jumped out at us as 'must-trys', and while my $32 Mulholland Drive Salad was decent, nothing about our entrees would make us want to rush back. Add in the distressing fact that RH doesn't have a full bar for cocktails, and this feels like a really nice, but very overpriced, lunch spot. Beautiful esthetics... that's probably the best thing they got going for them. We sat in a little round table close to the fountain, which was an uncomfortable seat. My feet didn't have anywhere to rest if I scoot up close enough to eat at the table as the pedestal from the table left no room. With having heels on it was uncomfortable. The water was also trickling on us a bit from the fountain. I ordered the lobster roll which was a good size and it was pretty good. The grilled shrimp starters were good as well. They were my favorite. I also had the broccolini which was good. The service was excellent and we had a great waitress who was attentive. The food here was just okay I don't think this is a place you go for excellent food. Everything else was just way off the mark... To start with...the wine list is 3.5x market price....I've paid 2 and 3x ...never 3.5x except for the finest steakhouses in NYC or Chicago. Menu ok...pretty simple and outrageously priced so gotta be good right...nope. Started with crispy artichoke hearts...$19. Dry, almost no substance to any of the hearts...greasy. was served with 2 thick slices of potatoe which was actually the highlight of the meal. At that point ordered the burger $18 which I heard such great things about, sautéed mushrooms $8 as a side, and black truffle potatoes $16 The burger was 2 overcooked patties with over salted tomatoes slices and 4 store bought pickles. Honestly, tasted like a diner burger. Potatoes were ice cold...tasted them and they were not good..mushrooms were oily and over salted...they did have a nice flavor. Out the door $110 with tip for a $20 GLASS of cab (sells for $18 a bottle), 1 beer, a diner burger, dried artichokes and oily mushrooms. Oh, and some Pelligrino. Service, not only slow with bad timing, literally removed said $20 dollar glass of wine with a sip and a half left. To make matters worse, they closed the gallery...then the elevator was stuck. And the manager was telling the host that the stairs could not be used. I cannot remember a more disappointing restaurant experience for a place I was really looking forward to. Would have gladly paid the prices...but I could name 10 gastropubs in Charlotte where you would spend half the money and get twice as good food, beer selection, and wine. First, the good about this place is that it is truly very nice inside. It sets the stage for great insta pics, especially in the evening. You can do this for free by simply just walking into the place from either the elevator or stairs and pic you spot for photos. Then, leave and dine elsewhere. I am always one to look at the glass half-full so the only take away is the atmosphere. Once we were seated, the experience began to head down the wrong path. It started first with our server. My sister-in-law ordered sweet tea. We were told they don't have sweet tea. My daughter then ordered the unsweet tea and just asked for splenda/sweet-in-low. When he returned, he brought the tea and a small pitcher that contained simple syrup. That is the very definition of sweet tea. Oh, and they don't have artificial sweetner packets. So that was the first facepalm moment. The next was when I ordered club soda with lime. They only offer bottled Pellegrino. What decent bar can't provide club soda? Moving onto to our meal. Things did come out in a reasonable amount of time except for my niece's entree. She and I ordered the same thing so I offered her half of my meal. 10 mins or so later, the server came by with her meal and apologized for the delay. But by that time, all of us were half way finished with our meal. For the prices they charge for the food, I would expect it to be better than the average pub. Nothing about my beef sandwich wowed me in any way. My sister-in-law had the shrimp cocktail and she said they were good but again, for the price, it wasn't worth it. Our server, in the meantime, was also scarce at best. My two daughters and nieces wanted to get a few pics, which they did. While my sister-in-law and I waited at the table, the server finally came by with 2 plates of cookies and a candle. He asked if we were celebrating a birthday. We said no so he said, well enjoy the cookies anyway, lit the candle and then walked away. Keep in mind that at this point it was just me and my sister-in-law sitting at the table. This should give you an idea of how much attention he really paid to our party. The cherry on top was when my oldest daughter had gone to the rest room. She had a boot on her foot due to an ankle injury. It got caught in the door as she was coming out of the restroom causing her to stumble. Two workers felt it was better to laugh as she fell rather than asking if she was okay. When she came back to the table to tell us that was it for me. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a manager. When we got home, my brother decided to call and talk to the manager directly. He has worked in customer service and to his credit said the manager needs to know so they can fix problems. He was very professional and the manager seemed receptive to his feedback. We were told that we would hear from the manager regarding possible credit for our meal. That was 10 days ago so I now feel the need to write this review. We never received any word back. My check for 3 adults it was $165 without drinks or appetizers. Needless to say, we won't ever go back. Final takeaway...feel free to visit the property and take advantage of many great photo spots. Then LEAVE and don't eat there. You will only come away completely disappointed. Update as of 3/31/22--Manager has contacted my brother and is issuing a full refund for our check. I felt it was only fair to make that point. My impressions of the restaurant remain unchanged but the manager did get back in touch with us so I did want to provide that update and go from poor to average for my rating. read more
