For our sides, we chose a Caesar salad, cheesy fried potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, and balsamic brussels sprouts. The steak was so tender and savory. Absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, I think the restaurant screwed up our shishito peppers. We order these whenever we can and these probably rank amongst the worst we've ever had. It's not the most complex dish to make - blistered shishito peppers can be as easy as a bit of oil and salt to cook and top with. You can add dashi or a ponzu sauce, but our bowl was absolutely FULL of sauce. The entire bottom section of peppers were fully submerged. The amount of liquid made most of the peppers in the dish soggy and extremely sour.

I looked online for a same day reservation but had no luck so I decided to call to double check. The hostess was super sweet and ended up squeezing me in at the bar for 7pm. Post reservation I received both an email and text message confirmation. I even got a 1hr out text that included parking options and an address which was very helpful. The staff here are ALL very kind, knowledgeable and welcoming. The bar seating is intimate but I felt we had plenty of space to eat comfortably. Our plates were also cleared almost immediately after each dish was finished so it never felt crowded. The food was great. At first we were presented only regular menus but when I mentioned to my server that I prefer veggie rolls he went and grabbed me a separate menu that had plenty of options to honor my picky pallet. He was great in both recommending dishes and explaining in detail how things were prepared. Food comes out when it's ready so there was a constant rotation of plates coming in and out. Everything was made to order and extremely fresh. I had a little singular avocado bite sushi and it was to die for. A one bite tease but super worth it. The drinks were tasty and the overall dinner experience was perfect. This was a 10/10 experience for me and I can't wait to come back.

Since the weather was so nice, we decided to sit in their patio area...very nice! Can't say I loved the playlist (a bit busy and random...everything from soulful lounge music and hip hop, to Donna Summers, Salt 'n Pepper, etc.etc.), but I loved the overhead volume...giving the place a festive ambiance. I just hoped that the music would be a tad more relaxing and sophisticated...but then, I get it. Am sure the vast majority of folks coming here are in their 20's or 30's. Service was good. I think both Managers-Owners (?) stopped by our table to check on us...and our waitress did her best. However, we did find it odd that we had to ask for soy sauce and wasabi with our Unagi nigiri order. Maybe this had something to do with it being a fusion place? As for the menu, there were several tantalizing and interesting options. My husband and I both decided to start with 2 orders of Unagi (as an appetizer). Then we agreed to share their signature dish, Lobster Fried Rice, as well as 2 sushi rolls, "The Genie" and "Kimchi Fried Chicken". We also finished our meal with their Panna Cotta (with Strawberry). Well, we both thoroughly enjoyed everything...but our favorites were the Lobster Fried Rice and the Panna Cotta. Sushi Rolls were good, but I felt I've had better? Despite the lofty price point, there just wasn't much of it...as there was this big block of ice taking all the space (just as with Whiskey drinks). Also, I didn't feel that it was strong enough. So here's where I dock a star. I feel that when a drink is this expensive (20?!?), it should be well worth it. Despite the good taste, it fell a bit short on its stingy portion and weak alcohol content. One other minus I must mention is the lack of parking here. You just have to drive around until you find a space along the road. It's a good thing we came early! Still, this is a great, new addition to Charlotte...and it's a cute spot for a date night or a girl's night out. The seared tuna was easily our favorite dish of the evening--absolutely outstanding and something we'll be talking about for a long time. The ambiance was perfect. Between the music, the energy of the restaurant, and the spectacular views, Mizu created an atmosphere that made the evening feel both elegant and welcoming. We absolutely plan to return. The only suggestion we would make is to consider adding a sweet Riesling bottle option to the wine selection, as it would be a wonderful complement to the dining experience. We came on a Saturday evening and arrived just in time to catch the sunset before starting our meal, which felt like the perfect start to the night. We ordered our first round of drinks, and the ladies at the table opted for the Osusume while the gentlemen ordered directly from the menu (there were four of us total). The drinks took a little while to arrive, but nothing that raised any red flags yet. Service started to feel off once the food began coming out. One of the guys received his appetizer, entrée, and side of rice almost immediately--basically all at once--while the other received his entrée well before his appetizer. As for the Osusume, it started strong with the first three dishes coming out fairly quickly. Unfortunately, that momentum stopped completely. We then waited 45 minutes to an hour before the next dish appeared. Our server did acknowledge the delays, which we appreciated, but that was about the extent of it. At one point he stopped checking in altogether, likely because he had no updates for us. What was frustrating was that we never even had the opportunity to order another round of drinks while we waited. After a couple of hours, one person in our group had to leave. Meanwhile, my friend and I were still waiting on at least three more courses from the Osusume (we were told it would be 6-9 courses). My friend's husband eventually went to the host stand to ask for a manager. When the manager arrived, we were given conflicting explanations as to why our food still hadn't come out. By this point it had been over three hours, and we still had three courses left to receive. Another friend left because the wait had become so unreasonable. Unfortunately, the manager didn't offer anything to help make up for the experience--no drinks while we waited, no gesture for the delay, nothing beyond explanations that didn't quite line up. Walking past the kitchen, things appeared chaotic and disorganized. It honestly seemed like our order may have gotten lost in the shuffle more than anything else. Tables that were seated well after us were able to order, eat, and leave. At one point a group of about ten celebrating a birthday came in after us, enjoyed their entire meal, cut a cake, and left while we were still waiting. Even small touches fell through the cracks. We never received the lemon or water enhancements that were being brought to other tables, and getting a simple water refill often took 30+ minutes. Going that long without any drink--water included--is tough for a restaurant of this caliber. Eventually, because it had gotten so late, we asked to have the remaining courses packaged to go. Unfortunately, that experience wasn't much better. The food was poorly packaged and didn't seem intended to be shared between two people, which made it difficult to properly enjoy what should have been the remaining courses of the Osusume experience. In the end, we were offered a series of explanations but not much in the way of service recovery. We were patient throughout the entire experience and didn't make a scene, but the lack of communication and basic hospitality made the evening feel like a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this place. Lack of service is one thing, but when concerns are raised to a manager and they seem to be brushed off, it makes the experience even more disappointing. I could maybe forgive slow service if it were a one-off situation, but the lack of ownership or effort to make things right makes it hard to suggest this spot to others. Come at your own risk and be ready for disappointment.

A bowl of rice was an additional charge, and there were no sides, vegetables, soup, or salad included. I left the restaurant still hungry, which is never a good sign after lunch. What disappointed me most was the lack of guidance and hospitality. As someone new to Japanese-style barbecue, I asked a few simple questions to understand what I was ordering. When I confirmed this was the happy hour portion, the server said yes--but didn't explain the serving size or suggest additional items. A little coaching would have gone a long way. At one point, when I asked whether the meal came with sides like banchan or rice, I was told, "This is not Korean barbecue." I completely understand the distinction now, but the tone felt curt rather than helpful. Hospitality is about helping guests navigate something unfamiliar, not making them feel like they should already know. I also ordered iced water with lemon, and the lemon never arrived...only the ice water. Was this an omen of what's to come?? Another frustration was the parking situation. I paid for parking through ParkMobile outside the restaurant, only to discover after entering that parking validation was available inside. That information would have been much more useful if it had been communicated clearly before guests park or pay. From a customer experience standpoint, it feels like something that could easily be improved with better signage--lead with the good stuff. The location itself is also somewhat isolated. While technically in Uptown, it's not in a particularly walkable or high-traffic area, so most guests will need to park in a garage or pay for street parking. There isn't much nearby other than an apartment complex above the restaurant, which makes clear parking instructions and strong service even more important. To be fair, the restaurant was clean, and the meat itself was flavorful. The concept of Japanese BBQ is interesting, and I now understand that this style is very different from Korean BBQ, with smaller, à-la-carte portions designed to be built into a meal. That said, the overall experience felt transactional rather than welcoming. I left hungry--and disappointed--not because of the food quality, but because the service and communication could have been better at several points along the way. This visit felt like a missed opportunity. With a little more attentiveness, clearer guidance, and stronger customer engagement, the experience could have been completely different. Don't let one restaurant deter you. Life is short--get out there and eat.

It's casual, comfortable, and would be perfect for a lunch date, girls' day out, solo date, or even a relaxed date night. The outdoor bar area is really nice, with TVs, a fireplace for cooler weather, and fans that kept the patio comfortable on a warm afternoon. Before ordering, I asked my server for recommendations. They suggested either the Honey Hot Chicken Sandwich or the Short Rib Sandwich. I went with the Honey Hot Chicken Sandwich and regular fries, and it was absolutely amazing! I can definitely see why it's a favorite. I visited during my workday and was able to sit outside while attending a meeting. It was peaceful, comfortable, and never felt overcrowded. The service was excellent from start to finish. One of the managers stopped by to check on my experience, which I really appreciated. I also noticed him making the rounds to other tables, and that personal touch says a lot about how they care for their guests. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms. Ladies, there's even a full-length mirror that's perfect for a quick outfit check or photo before you leave! Overall, I highly recommend Laurel Park. Definitely the place you need extra glasses and lights to see menu (haha) They were very busy on a Friday. But we never felt that with service. The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was very good. We started off with Italian meatballs. These were delicious. Very flavor ful and the sauce was robust and had a hint of spice which I loved. Then the watermelon feta salad. I loved this. There was yellow and red watermelon and just yum. The fruit was juicy and sweet then with the saltyness from the feta, great salad! For a pasta dish we went with the Radiatore. Grilled chicken with summer squash. Nice portion size with great flavors Entrees we went with Pan Seared Salmon, Steak Frites and crab cakes. All very good dishes. The chimichurri with the steak Frites was amazing, perfect addition for the perfectly cooked steak. For me the crab cakes stole the show. These by far some of the best crab cakes I've had. Tons crab not a lot of crap filler. The taste was so good. It came with a red cabbage and apple slaw, pickled fresno peppers with spicy aioli, when I tell you it was so good. I could have eaten the sides to the crab cakes by itself. But together it was an amazing dish.
