Tasty & Filling Breakfast Tacos! My roommate and I were craving tacos so she took me to one of her favorite spots. I was a bit intimidated because she told me that you needed to speak Spanish to order but they were very patient and helped us order pretty fast. We got their bean, egg, potato, and bacon breakfast tacos. - Breakfast Taco (3.5/5): They were very generous with how much filling they put in the tacos and I found the combo of beans and potatoes very filling. What I especially loved was their house made flour tortillas which were soft with a slight chewy texture. I think the tacos were a bit bland in flavor and needed some kind of salsa or pico to brighten it up. They do leave a big bucket of house made salsa in the front, but that day I found the green salsa to be quite mild and lacking flavor. My friend did tell me that it's usually much more spicy and flavorful, so I might have had a weaker batch. I also wish there was more bacon in the filling (I'm fat). Overall, i like this place. But far too often i have come early in the morning and my order will be taken and still make incorrect. I tell the lady exactly what i want. She will say it back to me. Ring it up semi correctly (i asked for 2 she rang up 1) and still make the order incorrect then both ladies will ask me if i wanted beans even if i wasn't charged for the extras. IYKYK... this is THE spot for tacos in the East End. There are a lot of options over here but Monchy's comes through every time. The staff is really nice, the food is always on point, and you get a hearty meal for your hard earned dollars. Monchy's is also active in the community and always support events and business that are local in the area. When I order I normally get a few beef fajita tacos and a piccadillo taco. My order total is usually $10-15 depending on how much I order. They always have a wide assortment of breakfast and lunch options so you will definitely be able to find something you like. They have orange and green salsas and an assortment of drinks including bottled drinks and some fresh brewed options like horchata. You can also order combo plates to get rice and beans with your food if you would like. When you walk in you go directly to the buffet of ingredients and one of the employees will take your order. If there is a line it runs right through the middle of the restaurant to the door, so no confusion about the process. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are quite a few tables inside and traffic filters out pretty steadily, so there should be space for you to eat inside whenever you stop by.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I normally get my order to-go but it's just a personal preference. The parking situation can be a little rough, the parking lot is small and sometimes when it's busy it can be hard to get in and out. Thankfully they move people through the line quickly and lots of folks get to-go orders, so there is a healthy flow of parking traffic as well. If you want to avoid the crowds I would say arrive at 11 or earlier, or after 12:30 to miss the lunch crowd. No matter what time you pull up the food will be worth it the wait. Be sure to swing by for the Taco Tuesday special, tacos are CHEAP starting at 11 each Tuesday. I want to say they are either $1 or $1.25. I traveled from Florida and I was most excited to try this place while on my vacation. We leave tomorrow and I 100% must stop by again before we head back to Florida, lol. Spent my Labor Day weekend eating as much as possible in Houston, so I'll start off my reviews with the strongest! Taqueria Monchys was so delicious we ate here every single day. Unbeknownst to us until we arrived, Houston is known for breakfast tacos (and also kolaches apparently). On our first morning, we went to a popular bfast taco place right before we came here which had about a 20 min line. We arrived at Monchys greeted with 0 line, friendly staff, and super fresh tacos. The breakfast fillings were good: eggs super fluffy, choice of chorizo or ham or potato, but we LOVED the lunch options. Our faves were the Mexican style steak and steak fajitas (which had hot dogs too!) Very flavorful and tender meat with a now known necessary smear of refried beans inside. The standout component was the homemade flour tortilla. Buttery, soft inside with a crispy exterior. I've never had better tortillas. And for $2?! These tacos were a relatively big size too. In CA these forsure would be $4.50 lmao. 10/5 stars. Service was so kind, it was women run from the front side and they were very accommodating since we didn't speak Spanish. I've been here three times this week and I can't control myself. I'm convinced that out of all the taco spots in the city that Monchys is numerous uno. It's crazy because in the front they running a tax shop, and in the back they running the worlds most authentic Mexican taco shop outside of Mexico. It's not even like it's a restaurant, it feels like I'm at mi abuela's casa in the hills. The service is so sweet, it's just love all around. The presentation isn't much, but when you have a product like this all you really need is that product. They go a step further by being nice, but I would still rather hear if they were rude. I really enjoy this place, and is my preferred taco place in Houston. The tortillas are, in my opinion, the best in the neighborhood. And the workers are very nice when they take your order. This place gets really busy during peak hours and there's a reason for that. Not a fancy place by any means but I always see families from the east side here and the workers are invested in the latinx community and always interacting with their patrons. Affordable as well. Let me tell you... we visited Houston for 3 days and I had Monchy's every single morning I was there... it was THAT good. I've had tacos from dozens of places in the Bay Area and LA and Monchys has to be one of my favorite places ever. Monchys offered the most authentic, freshest, and delicious tacos I've tasted. Their homemade flour tortilla was the best thing ever. I've never tasted anything like that anywhere else. All the tacos I've had in LA have been with store bought tortillas and dressed up with cilantro and onions- which is perfectly fine and delicious. But it was my first time having homemade tacos without all the toppings, and I couldn't help but think that this would've been a taco/breakfast you'd have made by your abuelita. Monchys offers a wide variety of meats to go with their tortillas. Upon entering, there is no menu- one of the workers will go up to you and take your order and you can do so by telling them what you want and what meat/filling to go with it, which is displayed in a cafeteria like style in front of you. But don't worry, everything is hot and fresh. We opted for a number of different tacos but some were: Chorizo and egg, steak fajitas, Picadillo, Barbacoa, Mexican style steak fajitas - all on a flour tortilla with beans They had homemade corn or flour tortillas but we only tried the flour because once we had it, we couldn't stop. We literally went to very morning for 3 days because we were addicted. Definitely get the beans too! They spread a small but perfect amount of warm beans spread on the tortilla before adding your choice of filling and it is perfection. BTW, they have taco Tuesdays where their tacos are only $1 as opposed to $2.25 or so. You'd find me there multiple times a week if I lived in Houston lol. Went there Today. Wont be back. Beans tasted like they are 1 day from going bad. Waited 15 minutes for my order, and then they came and advised that my plate would take another 15 minutes.
