The Beef Fajitas here are amazing! Not only are they perfectly marinated but they don't ground it up or slice them up in tiny pieces like most other places do, they are big pieces and their Tortillas are pretty good and soft too! This place gets an 8.5/10 from me. I also had the Horchata drink here with my fajitas and it to was on point with a nice cinnamon aftertaste. The second time, I called to see if they could start on my order before I got there and they said no. It took 5 minutes and was pretty good. However, I wanted a little spice and asked for onions and cilantro and some jalapeño, which I did the first time. The second time they charged me for these so the soup went up from $9.69 to $14.79. I have never been charged for these at any Mexican place, not even at this one the first time, but they said they DO and that's BS. I told them they need to let customers know beforehand about the extra cost because no one charges for that. We have been coming here for almost two years. The last two times seem to be under new staff and we cannot order enchiladas potosinas with chicken instead of beef anymore. This is too bad. We drive from the galleria to eat here and now they don't offer this. They bring chips with no salsa. We used to get a small side of frijoles that were amazing but not anymore. This place has potential but something is going on. We will not be back. Thanks for the good run, though. So here's the thing... I don't speak Spanish... at all. Therefore, ordering food later in the evening at a place where the employees speak 0 English is entertaining at best. I was on my way back from the East side post office, which is in the boonies, and I was starving. I stumble across this brightly yellow painted patch of heaven and decide I would try my luck. They did have a sign on the outside that said "#1 pollos tacos" or something of the sort, so I figured, with that sort of confidence, I would be an idiot to not try it out. So I went in and tried to order. When I walked up, the first thing I asked was "can I take this to go?" I got a look that could have only meant "I think you got lost on the way to Church's Chicken." I then said... trying to drum up any useful Spanish I could remember and said... "eat in mi casa...?" I know, I know, embarrassing how pitiful I am at Spanish. So I resorted to hand motions and then we were speaking the same language. She then said "ahhh... (a lot of stuff I didn't understand), ok." So I was encouraged now, so I decided I would do my best to order the food itself. I mustered up "tacos con pollo, sin queso por favor"... and I was well pleased. But, since I don't eat wheat, I was hoping I would somehow figure out how to say corn for the tortilla. Apparently she didn't understand my British outburst of "oh bollocks... how do you say corn tortilla"... For the life of me I just couldn't muster up the intelligence to figure out how to say "if it is not too much trouble, ma'am, I am currently on a gluten-free diet, and I would appreciate it if I could get my tortillas fashioned out of corn instead of flour" in Spanish. Turns out all I knew was "tortilla" and "I am sorry I am an idiot". To my shock, she asked me "corn or flour", and excitedly I said "corn por favor." Then came the part where I tried to ask for rice. I knew "frijoles" was beans... which I wanted... but I didn't know how to say "yes, same idea with the little styrofoam cups, but not the frijoles... but the other thing" in Spanish. But after making some hand gestures and saying "rice" 5 times, she got me some of that as well. After all of that, I was two beautiful corn tacos, beans, rice and salsa richer... and only $4.75 poorer. I actually called my mom to tell her how cheap it was. And to make a long story slightly longer... it was the best chicken taco I have ever had. The meat was tender, wonderfully spiced, and not dry like some other chicken tacos I have had here. The salsa they have was so hot I thought my back was going to light on fire, but besides the heat, it had a fantastic smokey taste that was well worth the "no, I'm not crying... I just have something in my eyes." I will be going back there, and I hope they remember the stupid gringo who mangled their language but loves their food. read more

After spending, oh, half an hour searching for BBQ restaurants that were either closed on Sundays or happened to be a run-down tin shack in someone's backyard in the middle of the warehouse district (nice one Adam), we decided screw it, let's grab some Mexican. La Silla it was. It's pretty easy to spot, being as it's bright yellow and has a big chicken painted on the side. The inside is what you would expect, just a tile-floored room with a counter and a few tables, with a couple of TVs blaring Univision.. the show featured what I'm pretty sure were homosexual magicians who had gotten stoned on nitrous and were trying to teach cooking to schoolchildren(?) I digress. I had to do most of the ordering as my gringo lunch companions didn't speak Spanish past "por favor" and "ummm.. taco". (Note: definitely know how to order your meal en espanol.) I went with chicken tacos garnished with fresh onions, cilantro, and lime. Muy bien. Wes got steak enchiladas and liked em, Adam got something else and figured he should stick with the chicken tacos next time. #1 tacos pollos indeed. The food was pretty righteous and the staff was friendly enough - no points for atmosphere, but this is a locals spot on the east end, and you know what you're getting into. All in all, I would say truth in advertising.. come for the chicken tacos, stay for the.. chicken tacos. read more

This is the perfect representation of what I expect an authentic Mexican restaurant to look and taste like. Nothing too fancy in the decor, but delicious and flavorful food. I am a taco addict (albeit not super knowledgeable) so I didn't consider other options (burritos, chicken plates, etc.). I took one look at their menu and was intrigued to find that I didn't know at least a third of the menu items. I called a friend for a second opinion (a true expert on Mexican food) and settled on the cochinita pibil and barbacoa (my staple fave). The cochinita pibil kicked the barbacoa's butt. The flavors were doing a happy jig across my taste buds. The barbacoa was good, don't get me wrong, but the cochinita pibil may be my new favorite. Thank you, Pollos Asados de la Silla, for introducing me to new levels of deliciousness. You have earned a special place in my heart. It's too bad that you're so far away though, or else I'd be here every week. I grew up a block away from this place and recently ventured my way back in there late 2017. During one of my dine in experiences I was confronted by a small cockroach. He was right on the table I was eating at and heading my way. I was trying not to make a scene because there was other people in the restaurant. When I brought it to management I was told that they came from the outside. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago. I ordered my food to go this time. I'm standing there minding my own business when I see a cockroach on the to-go table heading for the food. I screamed at the manager to get her to move the food. The moment she removed the to-go plates I discovered the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my entire life. Roaches, lots of them, running around everywhere! I screamed! I demanded a refund, which they refused. But the moral of this story is that I will never return there, and I don't recommend anyone to go there either. read more

If you're looking for the commercialized Mexican restaurant with unlimited tortilla chips with salsa and fishbowl-sized margaritas, this isn't the place for you. This place is about good Mexican food, not about creating hazy memories of bad decisions with subpar food. The pork and bean soup our waitress brought out with our drink was flavorful and good. This is an extremely good cheap eat. I have never tried their pollo asado, but I hear nothing but the best about it. What I know is good is their Mexican burger... which is a ginormous burger in a fresh bun, with ham, cheddar cheese, swiss cheese onions, tomatoes and avocados. I feel proud when I can finish half of one. Their fries are freshly cut, which makes it even better. Their tacos are well served and the tortillas are very fresh. I grew up in Monterrey.. this is not authentic Monterrey food. We ordered our food (carne guisada for my husband and Menudo for me) a few minutes after our order was placed, I heard the microwave go off a few times. I'm sure that was my husbands plate, bcs they brought his plate right after and it was steaming hot. The rice and beans tasted like they'd been frozen. By the time he finished his food, My menudo was finally brought out. Then about three spoons into my menudo, I just couldn't eat any more. I could tell the meat hadn't been cleaned from the fat before cooking like it should. The top layer was filled of fat grease and a short hair was found. We asked for the check and the waitress questioned why I didn't eat the menudo, and I expressed my thoughts. Also mentioned that we have gone to the other La Sillas restaurants and that this one wasn't up to the others standards. We go here for breakfast a lot... pretty much every Saturday. I order the huevos con chorizo which comes with refried beans and diced fried potatoes. The flavor of the chorizo is perfect- I've had bad chorizo before where it tastes funky, but not at La Silla. My boyfriend usually gets the chilequiles rojos con dos huevos revueltos "arriba" (eggs on top). It's so delicious, reasonably priced, and has a friendly staff. read more
