I would definitely suggest that. A lot of people were there already. Parking was down the road directed by attendants. It is abbot of a walk from there. But there was a shuttle available. Bring a chair or a blanket to sit on. Bring a cooler with food and drinks and if you have kids something to keep them entertained. Keep it discrete and make sure you bring a cup for those tasty beverages.

But it was padlocked when we arrived. No sign, no explanation. We then tried calling the number on the website but there was no answer. Other attractions in Richmond have updated their websites and/or phone messages to reflect changed hours, procedures, or closures. We went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts instead and had a nice time. I guess Wilton House will have to wait: but I will call ahead next time, as their website is apparently not reliable.

Lectures, live demos, tips, tricks and advice for all things pottery, ceramic, art, business! Plus the shopping! All of these incredible vendors, also hosting demos - plus giveaways, contests, swag and more. I came home with sample glazes, clays, stickers, ribs, glaze whisks and more. I shopped Mudtools, Dirty Girls, Hey Soolla, Diamond Core Tools, Blick Art, De La Design, GR Forms, Dolan Tools, Garrity Tools and ClayWorks (at their local store- they had an awesome photo booth at the convention). Yeah- there was shopping. Plus the exhibits, the pottery for sale, people trading pottery and just meeting other people passionate like me! Check in on Tuesday was easy. Getting in the doors Wednesday, Thursday and Friday- they only had one entrance open and the lines were long. A lot of people were late to the first sessions because it took about 20 minutes to get through security. Even arriving early didn't mean you'd make it in. The annual cup sale was an insane success- I believe the made record breaking fundraising! I was a tad annoyed with the app this year and with the lack of advance notice on shuttle tours. I missed the Friday night dance, because it wasn't on the schedule- I thought they just weren't doing it. Bummer. And I would have scheduled one of the shuttle tours if I had known about them in advance. Hopefully I won't miss much next year in Salt Lake City!

This house belonged to John Marshall, one of the nation's founding fathers and former Chief Justice…read moreof the US Supreme Court, where he lived with his family for over forty-five years. The house was built in 1790 and is one of the oldest brick dwellings in the city. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1962. There is metered street parking and commercial parking lots within a reasonable walking distance from teh house. The house and yard appeared to be poorly maintained and in need of some severe TLC. The yard has an Urban Garden Space and its landscaping was severely neglected. You will find some benches in the back yard, on a gravel area, that you can sit. You can do a self guided tour of the yard, using QR codes and informational placards. They also offer guided tours of the yard and home. The tour of the interior lasts about 45 minutes. The home is currently undergoing renovation, but is still open. The home is full of Marshall's furnishings and possessions. During the tour, visitors are treated to views of a a couple of bedrooms, including the master suite. and office and dining area. Prepare to be under-wowed by the furnishings. They barely put a small dent in the large rooms. They regularly host events here including the Black Rebellion in Early America Virtual Program, the Spirit of '76 Family Celebration, and the Polly's Richmond Focus Tour with Shockoe Hill Cemetery. This is not my most favorite landmark that I visited by far. There is not a lot to it. It is, however, still worth visiting if you are into history.

The beer selection was terrific. My personal favorite #sidamo coffee stout by Hardywood. Never made it to the wine tables because of super long lines. Next year the organizer should consider doubling up on the wine offerings. Music was provided by Griff's band and they were really fun. They took standard favorites like Elvis's hound dog and gave it a folk/bluegrass twist. Music was a nice addition to this year's event.

I found out I won 24 hours before the event. Babe! !! Road trip! !! I didn't mind driving up from Chesapeake to attend this event in Richmond. This event is world renowned so heck yeah we're game to attend. Parking was a beast!! We arrived about 2pm and the event I believe started about 10am. So yeah we were super late and knew we would have to deal with ridiculous lines for the wine sampling. But no worries... We were blessed to run into a man that was coming out of one of the pay to park lots and he offered to give us his paid for parking voucher. A free voucher for 3 hours...yaWhoooooooo!!! So let's do the math...free tickets valued at $55 each and now free parking...Oh we are in store for an awesome Saturday! ! I didn't do my research on this event, but if we ever return again I'll be ready. They offered private samplings throughout the day and I believe I saw evening tastings too. These tastings included food sampling as well. Bummer...most we sold out too. I believe about 20 openings were available for each private sampling. I'm sure this made an awesome time for a day date or date night. I saw something about a burger blast not sure what that is, but mad we missed that too. I tell yeah it was a lot going on and I'm sorta disappointed we didn't get the full wine expo experience. So definitely do your research before you attend. But we're checked in and wristband ready!! I was able to get a free wine bag that holds up to 6 bottles of wine...ahmazing! !! We picked up our crystal wine glasses...they were beautiful!!! We didn't know where to start. Let's start where the lines are the shortest. As time went on no lines were short so be ready to wait. Patience indeed. All the wine and malt liquor you can stand...this is the event for you! Every 10 minutes it seemed you'd hear a loud roar or cheer even. I thought some kind of contest was going on but nope!! Wine glasses were being dropped left and right, therefore, cheers if you will! ! :) Amongst the wineries different vendors were present and my fav there was Yelp!!! Heyyyy Bevin! !! She was the Yelp ambassador present on Saturday afternoon. She was awesome at greeting guests and telling them more about Yelp. She also had some cool swag to pass out to those that expressed interest. But the highlight at the table, Yelp provided beads and stems to make wine jewelry!! Fun fun fun!! I'd definitely recommend this event. And wear comfy shoes and eat lite before arriving. Have fun :)

The Redskins football team have a training camp in Richmond. It allows the community to watch them…read morepractice. General admission tickets are free. The area garages charge $10 to park. All garages (except for the field nearby) close 30 minutes after practice ends. Guests can bring food, beverages (no alcohol) and chairs. It can get incredibly hot on the field. I would bring a cooler with Gatorade and ice. Don't forget sunblock!

A great atmosphere! Great energy! Big fun!!…read more This was my second year attending the camp, but this year I attended as a VIP guest!!! Talk about comfort...this time around was so much more rewarding. The first year I attended in 2016...it was at least 100 degrees...no shade in sight basically. But there were oscillating fans blowing mist throughout the crowd. But it's a large open field on a hill full of Redskins Fans...but the heat OMG!! There are areas for children to play as well. This year wasn't as packed as the year 2016, but the energy was still present. Well fast forward to this year...air conditioned tent with tables and chairs...free snacks including chips, water, soda and a voucher to use at Papa John's (tent on site). So to get all this... I won a contest Papa John's hosted on FaceBook - so yeah, go like their page now!! We also were warranted an up close and personal view of the coaching staff and the players. We were positioned away from the main crowd. An unforgettable experience that I am so looking forward too next year. Not sure if it will be held here next year, I believe the team is looking at other locations to host the camp. We drove up from Chesapeake...about a 90 minute drive well worth your time especially if you're a fan of the Redskins. We parked in a parking lot ($10 or $20) about a half a mile away from the training facility. Remember to stay hydrated and bring money for parking and snacking. Bring a lawn chair too and perhaps memorabilia and a sharpie to obtain signatures. Small coolers are allowed as well. But if you forget your memorabilia or want something new/else there is a store on site that includes all types of items from pens to jerseys. FREE to attend - FREE to take pictures - Porta Potty rentals (unisex) are present as well as mini sinks to wash your hands. Have fun and enjoy life! HTTR!!

It's the end of 2020, and I'd say most of us need some extra cheer in our lives right about now…read more Fortunately, Lewis Ginter didn't cancel their annual holiday lightfest, but this year was certainly different than years' past with lots of pandemic precautions in place. I had visited once prior in 2017 and enjoyed the experience, but what I recall from that visit was that the garden was mobbed and the parking lot was insane. We had to park in a subdivision across the street and run across the street/try not to get hit by cars on Lakeside Ave. that year. And last year, I tried to bring my mom so she could experience it too. But we were stuck in an hour+ line at the Lakeside Ave. to make a left, and then as we got close, the police wouldn't let us turn left randomly. I was pretty upset to say the least and actually had an exchange with someone at Lewis Ginter after I direct messaged them about the incident, and they offered free tickets. I never took them up on it, though. Just went to the Norfolk lights instead the next night. This year was much more limited in terms of how many tickets were sold, plus there were staggered entry times. We were able to park right in the front row near the entrance, which is off to the left side this year. There's one entrance and one exit. We arrived within our half-hour window and showed the tickets to a clerk behind glass. Masks are rightfully required to be worn at all times while on their grounds, which I appreciated as a rule (though of course some people didn't listen - eye roll). We arrived at twilight (5 pm) and that turned out well for photos. I was able to get some in both twilight and total darkness. And with less people at the garden, it was easier to snap photos of the displays without others walking into view (though that did happen a few times). This year is all outdoors (so no big tree inside). The treehouse is also blocked off. They offer hot drinks and some food items, but I didn't buy any. With an hour-limit for the visit, we just made it through in the allotted time. Surprisingly, the gift shop was open. I was actually surprised by that, but I guess they need to boost their sales. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry. The tickets themselves were also pretty pricy for nonmembers like myself. And I attended on a value night, so I'm glad I visited when I did. Hopefully by next year, the pandemic will be a thing of the past, but I do see it being helpful if they continue with the timed entries, online ticket purchases, and limiting the amount of visitors to what the parking lot can hold.
