Meanwhile, some road person from Monroe is there asking if they use the seat covers - desk guy says no. Asked if they used steering wheel covers desk guy said no. Covers are used for a reason and that's to keep grime out of my car- which they didn't use. Guy tells me I need a new battery and how much- no thanks I can do it myself. Tells me I need tires before the snow - Best one was you need breaks. I used to always come here for oil changes, even got tires once when Aaron was there - the no BS guy. I blew a tire late afternoon on a Tuesday and called this shop asking if I could drop off my car overnight. No problem whatsoever. I came over early the next day, was presented with a sizable list of reasonably priced options, got four new tires installed and was out the door in under three hours. The service at this location went downhill and now does not deserve 1 star. Had a tire flat repaired there, a week later tire is still leaking air brought the car back they said no leaks pumped it full of air and let us go. Another week goes by and tire is still leaking this time they said the repaired not hold and now we need a brand new tire because "by law we can. It repair it again" . Ordered new tire went to is talk it the sore was closed because the manager called out. Went to another tire vendor they repaired it and said minor techs did not know what he was doing. I recently went to this location to have a tire looked at and possibly patched or replaced. The woman working the front desk, and also in the shop, assisted me with the utmost professionalism and care. Rather than charge me for a potential tire replacement she asked how my tires were and if they had any type of warranty. She assisted me on the phone when I talked to my mechanic. I have used this location before for my work truck, and I also have been incredibly pleased with the quality of service. Bait and Switch Operation Monro Muffler and Brake in Ashland MA, quoted through Tire Rack, $66.00 dollars to install four tires that I had delivered to them. The price is clearly stated in the email from Tire Rack. When calling to schedule the appointment the quote moved to $80.00 dollars. When I arrived to have the tires installed the quote moved to $141.00 dollars ... more than double what was originally quoted. They offering me nothing but a weak excuse about "a process change" and waving a print out around. Not only did they overcharge me but they were rude about it. They booked the appointment for 8am and told me it would be done by 1pm. I was forced to call them at 230pm only to be told they hadn't even started on the work. To make matters worse upon my inspection of the newly installed tires I found they had installed two of them going in the wrong direction (these are directional tires). They aren't even competent enough to install all four tires in the right direction. I only wish I could give them zero stars. read more

I brought my car in a few weeks ago (maybe 3) to the Leominster location to get 2 new tires put on the front of my car. The gentleman that did the intake procedure and the work on my car was seemingly very professional, offered to give me the holiday discount and even suggested I go to a Town Fair Tire to get them balanced because it would be $60 cheaper. Unfortunately, that's where the good news stops. I picked up my car, very happy to have two new tires, and took off. I realized there was a car part in my cupholder and that the tire pressure light alternated between flashing and remaining on. I was told that if I drive 50 miles on the highway it should go away. I drive 60 miles on the highway every day. It did not turn off.... I wasn't able to go back until this week but when I did there was different gentleman working at the desk ( I think his name was Mello, but i'm terrible with name). I explained the situation to him and he said that a TPMS might be going or have already gone as sensors do but to save me time he was going to look over the car right then and there. He did a once over and determined there was NO TPMS on the front driver side tire! We figured out who took me in (again, terrible with names but I believe his name was Keith) and I was told he no longer works in Leominster, but works in the Ashland location. Mello called the guy in Ashland and had him on speakerphone so I could hear. The guy in Ashland said he remembered the job but didn't know anything about a sensor. We called him on his lie and Mello told him he was going to give me a new TPMS and asked him if he could take my car in this morning (christmas eve) just to install it since they didn't have the right computer for the job at Leominster and the guy said yes. They hung up, and it was explained to me that the installation fee should be waived but I may have to pay to have the sensor programmed. I said that was fine and I was handed a brand new TPMS to bring to Ashland. That's when it hit me that my old TPMS was the part sitting in my cupholder. They never told me it was bad or needed to be removed or that it was removed from my vehicle at any point and then lied to me about not knowing anything about the sensor on this job.. Fast forward to today (Christmas Eve) and I got to the Ashland location. The manager ( who made sure I knew he was the manager) was very short with me and when I explained the situation he all but demanded Leominster takes care of it and I told him that by all accounts, they did what they needed to do and I showed him the sensor. I told him I want the mechanic that messed with my car to fix the job. He seemed flustered and then said they couldn't get to it until Tuesday and it wasn't their job to fix so I'd have to pay the installation fee. I walked out because I'm not giving this man a penny for being so unaccommodating. Frankly as someone who's worked for years as customer service and as a manager at retail locations before, I get that this isn't this guys problem but he's the manager.... help the situation so the customer leaves happy... He didn't do that. I called up Leominster and Mello answered. I explained how frustrated I was with the situation and asked if he knew of any other shops he trusted to get the job done because I'm not using Ashland. He set up an appointment for me at Tire Warehouse and that's where we're at now. I can't tell you how frustrated I am with this situation but Mello was an all-star and went above and beyond to make the situation right when he really did not need to. He deserves a raise for this. Ashland should get a new manager and maybe fire the guy that messed with my car and lied about it. I don't think I can ever go back to a Monro after this experience. read more

I was able to setup an online appointment easily for next day. I had a slow leak in one of my tires. They took my car in quickly and in a matter of 15mins. It was repaired at no charge. When I questioned the manager about the wobble that it was down to get fixed, he said oh yeah that's your tire not what you just paid to have repaired. Plesant enough but not a great experience. I was the only customer there and it took an hour to get an oil change. The manager had left to put fliers and the assistant manager and his helper were on their phones the first 40 minutes. The helper didn't know how to use a manual transmission and asked me to move the car for him. The bathroom is disgusting, the outside of the shop and waiting room are filthy and you can barely see the place from the road for the overgrown weeds. Why did i go there? I like to support the local guy and i know these are all local guys working there. I would have gone with one star but i got to watch a couple episodes of Drew Carey. I won't be back. Called to make an appointment because my tire had a slow leak. The manager said they were booked solid but still to drop it off and they'd try to get to my repair between appointments. Dropped it off around 8am and was surprised to have it completely fixed within 15 minutes (tire plugged, ran over a screw). Very fast service, and honest quality people here. Avoid. We brought in our BMW in December for an oil change since they were local and open in the evening. This car is supposed to use synthetic oil which can go 7,000 miles between changes. This is what we had paid for. Last week (at 3,000 miles) I noticed that the car started driving rough, like it needed an oil change. My husband stopped by at at different shop and had them check it - what do you know, the oil was filthy. Not sure what they put in there but it was definitely not synthetic, which is what we asked and paid for. The new shop also showed that the filter was not changed. Went for an oil change at Monroe Mufflers in Ashland. I was just looking to do an oil change, then I get a call from them saying I need $200 worth of work done for my car (including a new battery and wheel rotation, new brakes etc.) I get i might have needed the wheel rotation or the brakes, but a new battery? It was replaced when I got the car a little over a year ago. So I go inside to pay, I went to pay with my credit card, it got declined, tried it again, still got declined. So I paid, went outside to start my car... it doesn't start. The mechanic kept asking if I wanted change the battery, he said "it will be $100 to change it", I looked at my bill to see what everything would cost, if I changed my battery, just the battery would be $139 on top of everything else I paid for that I didn't need done. I've had so many issues going to this place. Please don't go to Monroe Mufflers in Ashland. THEY SUCK! I will not be returning. Thanks Bill for messing up my car. read more

I was having exhaust problems with my 1997 Lexus SC400. I love the car and have struggled to keep her going on a budget. After years of New England winters, rust holes started in the exhaust and it was horribly loud (pull me over officer loud). The Lexus dealership told me it would cost $2000 to replace the entire exhaust system. They wouldn't offer any cheaper alternative, and insultingly told me they'd be "willing" to take my car off my hands at no charge. After being slapped in the face and basically told my car was a POS, I went to Monro Muffler in Ashland near my parents' condo. They charged only $250 and welded in replacement pipes. The exhaust sounds so much nicer now at 1/10th the cost. They were available right away on short notice, and did the repair job in just a few hours. Thanks so much guys! read more

Took my BMW in to have the oil changed. Although the service was good, they forgot to reset the oil meter so a few days later a warning light came on indicating that the oil needed to be changed. I took the vehicle back there and the young guy behind the desk had no idea how to reset it (I believe he told me that the warning icon coming on was not from the oil meter needing to be reset). I googled how to reset the oil meter myself and sure enough, that's what was with the warning icon. You would think an auto place would know this. read more

The new management is great (took over in 2008). The manager and his colleague are young men who are not only knowledgeable but also very good-natured. The place used to be a mismanaged shop with uninterested work force earlier (till 2007), but now this enthusiastic bright team has totally changed the place. This business is horrible. Went there 5 years ago and got great service and value. Staff has changed. So has everything else about the business. It is now run like a junior high school automotive class. Spent one hour 50 minutes there today listening to the manager Russell discuss most every aspect of his life with a young lady the staff was familiar with who came in to get a tire fixed. I have no desire to know of Russell's issues with his girlfriend, their antics on tinder or other personal details of their lives they think are impressive. But this is what I got. As opposed to them determining whether my wheel bearings need replacing. Got a "no, wait, maybe the one on the drivers side" .What a complete waste while sitting there hearing about "we are getting right to it" and then Russell gossips, others sweep and the vehicle sits there. I could go on and on about the unprofessional behavior, the promises of service vs blatantly ignoring the customer smack dab in front of you. Point being; this place is Horrible! Avoid It Unless of course you miss junior high school or enjoy wasting your time Russell the manager wouldn't give me his or his boss Roberts last name or his phone #. Can't imagine why. read more

I have used Monro due to their location and convinence. But, in the end, they have have done all the simple maintenance properly and other non-standard issues have been diagnosed correctly the first time. The costs are reasonable. The manager does a great job of taking care of their customers. In addition, they do the extra things. One example. I had a coolant leak on a car. The manufacture had issued a service bulletin and was fixing this for free. They diagnosed the issues, confirmed that my dealer would fix the issue for free, and did not try and make a very expensive fix. And compared to Metrowest Subaru who was unable to diagnose a head gasket failure, they diagnosed it for a reasonable fee unlike Subaru who told me there was nothing wrong and charged me over $200. read more
