All anybody wants - or should expect - from a mechanic is two things: honesty and reasonably expeditious service. Unfortunately, you're more likely to find a leprechaun riding a unicorn in your backyard. Having visited Monroe on Walnut Bottom and had work done on my car, I know longer need to look for that mechanic ...or leprechaun & unicorn, for that matter. I was in a pinch and had a last-minute problem with my car and had to leave town for work as soon as possible. I pulled in, they looked at my car and before I could finish checking email in the waiting area they'd diagnosed the issue and fixed it. I decided to go ahead and get an oil change because they were done so fast and I was actually *ahead of schedule.* My friends were right - don't go anywhere else in Carlisle but Monroe. Caveat to all of the below: my interactions with the managers during all of this was very pleasant and they were apologetic. It was just a disappointing first experience after spending a decent amount of money. We took our car here for an inspection at the end of February. We were told we needed new brakes for around $800 to pass inspection. When I picked the car up and started driving home I noticed that the car was making a high pitched squealing and grinding sound, so I immediately turned around and returned to the shop. I was told something about a clip that had come loose or not been attached correctly when the brakes were replaced but was told it was fixed and I was good to go. I drove home with no issues (I only live about a mile from the shop). The next day my husband ran a local errand and the car started smoking while he was stopped at an intersection. I immediately called Monro and had to push a bit to get them to look at it that day. I had to have it towed from my house to the shop because I didn't feel safe driving it even a short distance. When I went to pick it up again, I asked what happened and was told that this time, no lubrication was applied to the brakes. Apparently it was originally done by a newer, or a junior technician? I'm not totally sure, but essentially it was two massive errors in a row. I was assured that a senior technician double checked it before I left, and that the junior technician that had made the two errors was being "talked to". I'm just glad that I didn't get on the highway either time and attempt to go any type of distance, and that there was no apparent permanent damage to my car. Anyway, I never heard back from them after that. Since then, everything has run without issue, but this was not only inconvenient but potentially very dangerous. I don't think we'll be back, which I hate to say, but I'm not super trusting that things will be handled correctly in future. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Truck went idle and needed towed. Monro was the only place close that was open after 6PM so I had to get it towed there. Got a call the following morning I needed a new throttle body for $4,700. Made 4 calls and found out you can get that specific part for my specific truck for $180-$250 depending where you go. They swore that $4,700 was correct. As soon as I said I'm getting my truck out of there I get a call saying it was a mistake and it would only be $700. Why on earth would you ever let anyone work on your vehicle that wouldn't be able to spot a $4,000 mistake. Don't worry, they still milked me for $145 for a diagnosis. Mike and his team went above and beyond during the repair of my Jeep. After accidentally booking my appointment at another Monro location, I arrived at this Monro and met the Mike the manager. Mike was sympathetic to my needs and asked one of his techs to do a test drive in my car. They determined that repairs needed done before continuing my trip to Pittsburgh later that day. Mike found that the brake job that was done a few months earlier, by a competitor I might add, was done incorrectly and caused the issues I was having. Mike and his team did the repair and for below the estimate. He also provided me with a letter detailing what had caused the issue for me to take back to the competition to try and recoup some of the added expense. Thank you Mike, I appreciate your hard work, honesty, excellent customer service, and making sure your customers safety is at the fore front of your business. read more

I realized last minute that I had to get my car inspected. I am new to PA, and we do not have to do yearly car inspections in the previous state I live in. The last location I had gotten an inspection at was closed. Monro was great. I could schedule an inspection time online and confirm the appointment, and then complete the inspection quickly and ahead of time. I do not usually do reviews, but this business helped me out of a jam, and they were helpful and professional. read more

I've had my oil changed here at Monro a couple of times and usually have my car inspected here too. Overall, the pricing isn't too bad. They always have appointments available within a day or two of calling, which is a nice thing to rely on when your inspection due date sneaks up on you! My only grumble was the last time I was in for an oil change, the plug on my oil tank was tightened too much and the outside was stripped a little, so when I went to change it myself, I couldn't get it off. When I brought it in and explained this, they did an oil change and said they "wouldn't over tighten it this time" and they'd check to see if the plug was stripped. They told me that I'd need to "really put the socket on it all the way" since it was a little stripped, but they otherwise didn't acknowledge any wrong doing on their part. A really disappointing response to a place I've given business to for the past several years. I'll likely continue to use Monro for my inspections, though if I can't do my own oil change next time due to over tightening or because the plug is stripped, this will change. read more

I brought my 2016 Honda fit in for a tire rotation and oil change. The front desk employee didn't even ask what kind of oil I wanted and insisted that it needed to be full synthetic oil. When I asked if I could go with synthetic instead of full synthetic since full synthetic was out of my price range the front desk employee still kept insisting that it needed to be full synthetic oil. I also had them test my starter and they said that my starter was working fine but that my battery was testing low. I explained to them that I replaced my battery about two weeks ago and that it shouldn't be testing this low, and they insisted that I chose the wrong battery and that I needed to replace the battery again. After they told me that my battery was running low, I took my car to Advance Auto Parts to get my battery tested again and my battery tested good. I also saw the front desk employee smoking in the shop. Overall, the front desk employee was very rude and persistent, and I feel like I was given false information so that they could try to get more money out of me, read more

My personal mechanic suggested I get my exhaust system replaced at one of these type chains, because it would be cheaper. The free estimate I received was $800. In sticker shock, I came home and looked up the part at Advanced Auto, which was $133. That's a despicable mark-up in my world! I knew exactly, what was wrong. So, they were honest. I went to get my front breaks fixed. I had a estimate from another garage and showed it to him. He said it was a good price. I asked how much they would charge for the same thing and the estimate he gave me was $1000 more than the other place. Even though it could have been done much quicker at Monro, it wasn't worth an extra $1000. I'll wait for an appointment at the other place. read more

I would not useless location if it was the last garage available. Jeremy is the worst example of a manager and will upcharge his customers and treat them like dirt. Ok went here about 7-8 years ago bad service finally decided to give them another shot. I am bargain shopper and I got quoted at Firestone for cheaper price with a coupon. So they matched the price and even fixed my steering wheel for free which I didn't know had a problem. I got and alignment done on my vehicle. I recently took my older corvette to this Monroe Muffler for a coolant leak. They quickly diagnosed it as my heater core leaking. They were able to order the part and have it installed that day. I was impressed with their quality of service. Usually this type of a fix on an older corvette can take some time. They provided me the old heater core and showed me where it was leaking from. Monroe ripped me off. I went there for convenience and it was the worst idea ever. I will never recommend anyone to go here to get their car serviced. I got an inspection done there, everything was fine with that part. However, one of the guys called me to say "you need all 4 tires replaced." First off, their tires are absurdly priced compared to other locations. Second, I only got 2 tires due to their ridiculous prices. They told me that my tire tread was so low that they will barely pass inspection and that I would need to get my other two tires done ASAP. This was back in January. So for an inspection, oil change and 2 tires, it cost me close to $900. I was furious. I finally decided to go get my other 2 tires replaced yesterday at a local shop that I've been to many times before. I pulled in the shop and the kind gentleman said to me "mam, not to be rude but why are you getting these replaced, there is nothing wrong with them." I told them the story about Monroe.. the sweet man said I don't want you spending money if you don't have to. ALL WHILE A PANDEMIC IS GOING ON AND LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES NEED MONEY THE MOST and they could have made a couple hundred dollars off me.
