Took my car for state inspection and they failed it, telling me that the brake pads were worn out, the rotors were scored due to metal on metal contact with the pads and I would need to replace the pads, rotors and "probably the calipers". His inspection report indicates he removed the left rear wheel. I took the car home and removed the left rear brake pads and determined that they were fairly worn, but no where near metal on metal and the rotors were fine, not scored and were still 10.3mm thick even the spec from Subaru is 8.5mm. See photos. I've since replaced the pads (since I took them off to photograph anyhow), and took the car to another shop to be inspected. They also told me that I need a battery as this one will fail soon. This is the same thing they told me last year about the same battery! Places like this make me so angry as they prey on people's Fear and ignorance while performing repairs not needed. I do all my mechanical work myself and even showed Dan the manger the log book where I had inspected the brakes 2200 miles ago and gave him an opportunity to revise his diagnosis. After calling the Customer Service rep. who asked that I describe what happened in an email and she would forward that to the District Manager who would make a decision about what to do - that person chose to do NOTHING. I truly think they respond to your complaint in Yelp and then anyone looking at the review sees that quick response and think, "Wow, they reached out and took action." They don't take action. They don't care. Find a service center that will follow thru. Monro is NOT that place. read more

I made the appointment online last Thursday (24th) for Saturday (26th) , selected the type/brand of tires. Dropped the truck off early , I received a call telling me they didn't have the tires in stock, despite picking the tires online two days beforehand. I was told they would be in Tuesday, so I left the truck there for four days . I didn't hear from them on Tuesday so I called late afternoon and they knew nothing about the tires, they called their supplier and I was told the tires would probably be in tomorrow...probably. I wasn't going to leave the truck there for a fifth day on the chance that the tires would "probably" arrive on day five. A complete waste of time, wish I could give zero stars , they are open 7 days a week and they couldn't change tires in four days. what a joke ! won't bother wasting my time there again read more

Simple oil changes turned into needing a new oil pan because they overtightened the cap resulting in damaged threads. No responsibility taken on their part. $800 repair ensued. The worst experience ever. They destroyed my car to the tune of $3100. Frank Coddington the District Mgr. and his worker Mike Metichecchia are two of the worst incompetent people I've ever dealt with. Frank Coddington district manager ignored my calls and texts. If I could give zero stars I would. Stay away from here. They destroy your car and run and hide like cowards and refuse to make it right. I reported this to Monro Corporate and had all my documents and videos of the damage in order and fortunately was reimbursed my $3100 by corporate. Yeah - it's true. Alot of turnover at this shop. But yesterday I had a such a wonderful experience there. Needed an oil change - but i also asked to swap winter tires for regulars. Ben was honest and said they were too busy - but asked if I could bring it back. When I went to pay bill, he said he made the time to take care of it. Overnight I also discovered I had left my expensive Beats headphones in the waiting area. When I returned this morning, Ben happily produced them and wished me a nice day. That doesn't happen often in NY. Ben is a classy, stand-up guy - and you don't find that often at these chain tire shops. That alone is reason to go there. I was looking for a mechanic and tires on the Internet and found Monro, and was very happy with the reviews. I went to the Chester Mall location with my son this afternoon (We reside on the border of the Bronx). I cannot begin to express how happy I was with Mike and Rich. They were both very attentive and detailed of the work my car needed, and were exceptionally honest which is hard to find. Mike wore a few hats as he assisted with the mechanics and would run to the front to pick up the phone or assist another customer. Rich was more than happy to answer any questions I had as well as the other customers. I would most certainly return for any other car needs I may have. It is a long drive for me but was so worth it! The only thing I found disturbing was speaking to another customer while waiting for our cars and he told me he has gone to this location for the last 5 years and it is always new faces. They have a high turn over rate which does concern me. Regardless, was still more than happy with Mike and Rich. read more

I brought my car in for an appointment for something minor and was never called during the process. 6 hours later I returned to pick up my car (no phone call telling me it was done) and my car was not even fixed and they said they would do it tomorrow. I couldn't be more pleased with my experience with Monroe Muffler in Chester, NY. I had a rattle in my exhaust system (Suzuki SX4 2008). The car is no longer in production and parts are hard to com by. My own mechanic told me if I can find the parts he would do the installation. I got quotes from $300.00 to $1800 dollars and was told I needed a new exhaust system. Waiting time for parts was from two weeks to two months. MONROE MUFFLER saved the day? They were professional, knowledgeable, and courteous from making my appointment to resolving my exhaust problem. I was in and out in twenty-five minutes and was thrilled with the $40.00 bill. So I spent 30 minutes before they touched it and then it sat inside for 40 minutes while three of them tried to figure out why the chord to the New York State inspection computer was not working. They fixed my son's car on Friday afternoon and on Friday night it no longer ran. It was smoking and leaking fluid - he lost the abilty to steer and then the car just died. When I called Saturday morning and asked them to tow it and look at what happened, they said its not our responsibility to tow your car and we have no idea what YOUR son did to it . It was only AFTER I threatened to go to the Honda dealership that he offered to have a look at it to see if maybe it was a defective part put in. LIke I'd trust them to touch the car again!!!! Thanks Monro Muffler - after paying you $927.00 of my money I can no longer afford to have someone else look at it right away so whatever YOU did to my son s car will not be discovered for weeks. Went to the Chester location to get oil changed and muffler looked at. The muffler had holes which I was able to see myself. I was told that both catalytic converters needed to be done because my car would not pass inspection. I was also told that there would be a charge of $300 to diagnose the complete exhaust system (above the the catalytic converters). left with an estimate of $2800.00. I received a second opinion and they told me that the catalytic converters were fine and completed the job for under $500.00 and my car passed inspection. Shame on Monro. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE! On June 15, 2016, I brought my 2004 Nissan Armada to replace my front suspension and to fix my muffler. On the same day, I brought my 2001 Jeep Cherockee to repair it because the engine light was on and it was time to do the car inspection. On the Jeep, they replaced the tail pipe and a portion of the muffler. The light engine was off but it came back two days later. We spent for the Jeep the amount of $380 and the light engine was still on. We brought it back and the manager advised to bring it to the Jeep dealership to resolve the matter. Regarding the Armada they installed the front struts and tail pipe plus other parts of the muffler. I realized the front end of the truck was very high from the back. It wasn't leveled. VDC OFF and SLIP light came on soon after the repair. As per Nissan if OEM parts are not replaced for the front suspension then VDC OFF and SLIP LIGHT will come on the dash board. The Manager, Brian Keller, agreed to let me buy the NISSAN parts. I got the two OEM front springs and two OEM front absorber shocks. Brian told me he will refund me the repair for the front suspension which was $400 and he will charge me the labor only. I went there on July 5th to have the work done. It took 1 hour to have the job done. He claimed that the truck didn't have the bearing plates. I said what did you do with the old ones that were one the truck?As he is giving the paperwork to sign for the job completed. I asked about my credit that was promised to me. He said I am not giving you the credit because the repair didn't resolve the VDC OFF and SLIP issue. I said, it will come off once I drive it, because the computer has to reset, which it did.. He then called me a thief, I said he was a thief for not respecting the agreement we had. He told to get out the store. I decided to call the cops and I did exit the store. Cops came and I filed the report of what happened with the Chester(NY) police regarding the store manager. This was a safety issue for my family and m read more

I brought my well maintained, 2010 vehicle here for an inspection and was told that I needed over $1000.00 worth of repairs so I could pass my annual NYS inspection. Then they tried to hold me hostage by using scare tactics to have the repairs done, but instead I I left, and within minutes went to another mechanic.
