Bunch of scumbags. Got a state inspection and had a call after a few minutes reporting the things "wrong" with my car. Two of such things were my front brakes and battery. Tried to quote me almost $1000 to deal with both. I declined knowing I had the brakes replaced 5 months ago so there was no way they were as bad as they claimed. They called back and said the car wouldn't start (which has never been an issue and has shown no indication of going bad). I told them to jump it and I'll replace the battery. Got home and self tested the battery and it has full strength and no issues. They are making up false issues to try to get more money. Beware!! read more

I scheduled my appointment for a NYS Inspection today (5/1 at 11:30am) and drove 2.5 hours to get there (due to having NYS plates while I temporarily live in PA as a college student). When I arrived, John told me they didn't have an Inspector today even though they clearly saw in their system that I requested a NYS inspection. furthermore, I received a confirmation text & email for my appointment, they didn't bother to call me (as they had my number) to let me know they do not do NYS inspections on Sundays. I feel like John from the Corning NYS location was unreqsonably rude to me. I did not raise my voice or cuss at him, and simply asked why I did not receive a phone call when he was able to see in the system that I had an appointment for a NYS inspection, despite them not doing them on Sundays. He told me "he is not putting up with this" and aggressively gave me the corporate number. No where on their website or their appointment request form do they mention they do not do NYS Inspections on Sunday. I am extremely dissapointed in the customer service I received and the negligence of no one calling me to notify me that they do not do inspections on Sundays until after I drove 2.5 hours to get there and the lack of information of this lack of service on their website. This unacceptable and no way to treat a customer. it should be clearly stated on their website they do not have a NYS Inspector on Sundays and should either mention it on the appointment request form or just not be an option available to request on the days they do not provide this training. They should also have more compassion and empathy to customers who are expressing their concerns for lack of notification. Lastly, they should have been proactive and notified me they do not provide this service when they clearly saw in the appointment (which was confirmed) I was there for a NYS inspection. I feel like they did not respect me or my time as I drove over two hours to get there and they thought it was acceptable to just wait and let me know they do not provide this service once I arrived in person eve. though they had both my phone number and email. read more

Took my car for an exhaust leak repair. Manager said they couldn't repair and had to replace the catalytic converter for $2500 which I agreed to and paid in full. The new converter failed shortly after it was installed resulting in a blocked exhaust system and many leaks. This service center agreed to replace the catalytic converter under warranty but would not cover the cost of additional parts. They also damaged the exhaust manifold during the service which then needed to be replaced, and they "lost" the manifold heat shield and decided to not install one and not tell me. This resulted in excessive temperature in my engine compartment and additional damage. The newly replaced converter is much smaller than the OEM part and has decreased the output of the engine. And, I still have a leak at the converter inlet. They won't call me back at this point. User beware! read more

I stopped by monro near closing time on a Saturday with what I thought was diagnostic issues with my BMW. Luckily they were not overly busy as they normally are. The manager Art ran a diagnostic check on my car and found that the battery had a bad cell. He ordered a battery from a nearby automotive part store and made sure it was the correct battery. They installed the battery when it was delivered and Art reset my electrical system for me before I left. I did not have a appointment and he still was very kind to help me. If it was not for Art and Johnny I would be stranded. Thank you for your kindness gentleman and going above and beyond to help a stranger in need. Forever grateful and you are assets to your company and have excellent customer service. read more

Took our truck in for inspection and were told a bunch of stuff totaling $2800 need to be fixed to pass inspection. It did need brakes and a few other things. I was told the e brake did not work when I had just replaced all the cables and brake pads. Replaced front brakes and 1 sway bar bushing. Took it to my regular mechanic and it passed. Steering rack has a leak they said would fail it for inspection and rear brakes which are only 6 months old and only 2000 miles on them. Passed at NY mechanic. In my opinion the are crooks. Must be the looked at me and thought I and my girlfriend font know anything about cars and would buy there bullshit. Unhappy customer read more

I didn't know what Monro was until I learned that it's like a Midas, except they are corporately owned rather than franchised. I came here to do state inspection, my exhaust pipe was clogged by backing into dirt in the winter, my breaks were squeaky and my low tire pressure light was on. Monro at Corning was able to resolve 3/4 of my issues. Though my breaks still squeaks, they assured me the breaks were brand new and no issue they can see. I was only charge for the state inspection which was standard cost. I was not charged for the rest, which tells me this is an honest business. My sister and I pulled off the road during a bad storm while traveling. When the storm passed and we tried to restart the car, the battery died. It was our good fortune to be next to this Monro tire. Mr. Johnson immediately came to our rescue. He pushed the car into the bay, changed the battery and stayed late to complete the job. I recommend him and his work to anyone. read more

I think I left a review the last time I had work done and was happy then and still remain happy. It takes ALOT for me to leave 5 star so don't let that discourage you. I had a brake line go on one of my vehicles and took it here without an appointment. I also need the oil changed and an inspection. These guys did a great job. Showed me the bad part. And did for a reasonable cost. Still a fan! Now, I am fortunate enough to been able to drop it off so I did not have to wait so I can't speak for that. I don't have any affiliation with this place, merely have used it a few times. I am always hesitant to use Monro, Firestone, and others because of the reputation they have but I can say that the past few times that I had work done there (because my wife works nearby) I have been very happy with the work and cost. For Marisa L who left a one start because all they needed was an inspection sticker, well you can go anywhere now and wait as long as that now that NY State is directly involved with your inspection. The inspectors now have to wait for approval from the state. You should probably call them to see what really happened. I really don't think the wait was their fault. read more

Dick knew I was in a hurry for a NYS inspection that was 7 days overdue (our bad) on our visiting son's car. Monro's timing was not the issue; it was the $143 pair of windshield wipers that we were forced to take or lose the inspection sticker. Yes, he told me that the car needed wipers when I called him - but never what they would cost. He could have bought wiper inserts (waaaay cheaper). Instead he told us he went to Binghamton (really, over 2 hours away round trip?) to get these aftermarket, wrong sized, sloppy fitting wiper arms. Dick would not let us put on our own extra set of good wipers, nor return the installed ones without losing the sticker. Dick's stories kept changing the more he talked. If the sticker got scraped off, he could not fit us in for a long, long time. Time constraints forced us to need the inspection sticker that day, and so not to argue further. Up until now we were great customers of Monro - buying tires, mufflers, alignments, oil changes. My advice is to not have Monro do any work without a firm, no add-ons allowed, quote. That means no NYS inspections because you might have to buy one of their $100 light bulbs to get your car back. Thanks YELP, I feel a little bit better -- but still like I've been back-stabbed with a $143 set of wipers. read more

Absolutely the most fantastic Monroe Muffler. Great group of people and terrific management. Any time I go in with an issue they take care of me. They have always worked hard to get me in right away and go above and beyond to take care of my vehicle. I had a very poor experience with another Monroe years ago and refused to go to any since. I went here one time in an emergent situation and they were amazing and have continued to be fantastic ever since! Thanks guys! read more

If you want to be ripped off, this is the place to go. I went in for an oil change, but that wasn't enough for them. To my month-old tires, they reported "pretty good." Manger said oil filter was terrible (contradicting the man who just looked at it) -- twice the cost of the oil change. Brake fluid -- the worst!, eating up my brakes with too much copper. I went to Monro several years ago , because my muffler was about to fall off and loud. I got an estimate and they told me that they could only find one muffler for my Hyundai accent and it would be almost $ 450.00 and that's no misprint. I later looked up the cost for one at different parts stores and they run anywheres from $84-94.00 bucks . I thought about reporting them to NY Attorney generals office for running a scam and fraud, but I just never went back! read more

Worst service I have ever received at a service station. I took my Toyota tundra in for an oil change, tire rotation, and to have the transmission oil changed and filter changed. 5 hours after my vehicle had arrived for its service I received a call saying that that broke the bolts off in the transmission pan but they were able to get them out and they would have to get new bolts and it was no big deal and that my truck should be ready the next day because they were waiting on parts to do the transmission service. I received another call the following day letting me know that they ordered the wrong parts for truck and that the original price quote for the service was not going to be adequate because they had to get parts direct from Toyota (would have been nice to know this before work started). At this point I really had no options due to the fact that my truck was on the rack and tore apart so I had to get it fixed. On the third day that my truck was in the shop I got a called that all the parts had come in and that I could pick my truck up and that it was done. I went that night to pick my truck up and it barely would leave the parking spot that it was left in. I figured it was just in my head so I circled the block and noticed that my transmission was jumping in and out of gear and was shifting extremely rough. I stopped back at the shop and they told me it was probably just some air pockets and that it should clear up and that if it didn't clear up to take it to the dealer. As soon as I left monro I dropped truck off at the dealer because I knew something was terribly wrong with it. After being at the dealer it was discovered that monro had underfilled my transmission 5.5 qts of oil. Monro did pick up the tab at the dealer however I still had over a 530 dollar bill that had to be settled from my initial service at the shop. After talking to the manager on the phone he admitted that yes it was shorted oil and that it was his fault but I still had to pay the bill for the transmission service. After fighting with the manager numerous times on the phone I decided to contact customer service about my situation. I called for fours days in a row and sent an email and it took me over a week to get a call back from anyone to try and settle my bill. After it was all said and done after a lot of leg work and complaining on my end I was told I would be refunded the labor that was charged for the tranny service and would also be credited the 50 dollars worth of wipers that I was up sold and that were never put on. (manager tried to fight me on the wiper charge as well) After I found out what monro had done to my truck I wanted to know if they were going to stand behind their work if the tranny failed in a year or two because they had me run in 5.5 qts low for 50 miles. I was told numerous times that it will not be monros fault at all even though they admitted they under filled it. It was also stated in the dealer paperwork that tranny may have future issues because it was underfilled and monro still didn't want to stand behind their awful work. At this point I am still waiting for my credit on the tranny labor ($222) and wipers ($50) that were not installed. I also am waiting to hear from the their insurance company to see what will happen if my truck dies in 10K miles because of the damage monro had done to it. This was by far the worst service I have ever received and the way in which I was treated was extremely upsetting. I was seen as the villain who just wanted something for nothing (words of local manager) rather then the victim who just had a 25 thousand dollar truck potentially ruined. I will never go back to monro muffler anywhere in the US, nor will I take my fleet vehicle I use for work to a monro muffler. Lesson learned to just take your vehicle to the dealer because the service techs at monro have zero clue what they are doing. **service techs admitted to me that they didn't know how to work on my tranny and that the manager forced them to work on it. This fact was stated of course after my truck was all messed up. read more

Had to have a vehicle towed to the nearest repair shop. As I looked up repair shops on my phone while sitting in a lot, Monro popped up and through past bad experience with these places I was nervous about having it towed there. Went ahead and did. After a few hours of trying to locate the electrical glitch they came through and corrected the problem. Very reasonable price, very happy! Big thanks to Art and Steve for your professional service and have completely reversed my opinion of Monro service centers! Anyone reading this review would be well served to take your vehicle to these guys. read more
