I was very pleased that they could replace my battery as quickly as they did. They called and said the battery was evaluated as in very good condition and said it was up to me whether I wanted to be proactive or just wait until it died again. Very honest and pleasant. read more

I have been taking cars to this Monro for a few years now. We always do inspections and oil changes there. The staff is really friendly and will get you any kind of discount that can be found. They even let me use a coupon on an inspection when the car didn't pass because they couldn't get the wheels off (darn jeeps). I have to warn you though, if you're going to wait, bring a sweatshirt. The waiting room is very cold but I've never waited for very long so it's tolerable. They don't try to sell you anything, which is a huge relief because as a woman, I often feel like these places see me coming and see dollar signs. Overall, I won't go anywhere else. read more

I was on my way into work and saw they had a 19.99 oil change deal going on and decided: "Man I need an oil change actually". So after my day was done I stopped in here on my way home and didn't have an appointment. When I was greeted, he told me it would be about an hour and a half before I could be seen. I was bummed and decided to leave and make an appt. When I told him that I just wanted an oil change with none of the frills and freebies, he was able to squeeze me in within 20 minutes. Now I know that you need to be tough with mechanics. They always try to upsell you. So when they called me to my card, I armed myself with a tough scowl and was ready to go. However, they were extremely honest and showed me that the "oil leak" that I had was mainly a loose oil plug they tightened for me. They also showed me another repair needed and even though I was ready for the upsell, it was actually a legit issue that I also recognized. I appreciate them for not trying to pull the wool over my eyes and really showing me honest issues. It wasn't anything crazy, but something I plan to take care of soon. The pricing was fair as well. Again, I got an oil change for 20 bucks. There is literally no reason to do an oil change yourself when its that price. The quoted labor for the other job I plan to get back to was fair as well. I will return here for repairs and major kudos to both the mechanic and the manager who were working their butts off due to traffic. read more

I came in and asked for an estimate for a repair on my cracked exhaust pipe. Manager said it was fine and they would get it right in... 90 minutes after I signed in he called me over and had said "yeah, you need a repair. My exhaust guy isn't here but if you come back tomorrow we can fit you in." He had me waiting for an hour and a half only to tell me he couldn't really ballpark price and it couldn't be done that day anyway? Thanks for wasting my afternoon. I understand dishonest salespeople will make you wait so you'll become 'invested' and 'pay anything' since you've come so far but this really tops any experience I've had. read more

Got my oil changed here last week. They told me my brakes were almost nonexistent and I needed to pay them $650 that day to completely overhaul the front brakes. The manager seemed like a shady guy so I said I would think about it. He was doing the hard sell, saying my car was unsafe to be on the road. Brought my car to Masellos auto shop, Tony did an inspection and said my front brakes were about 50% worn down and that he said I could go probably at least another year with them. Then Tony asked where I got my oil changed because monro muffler forgot to replace the oil gasket and my car was leaking oil. Take my advice - skip this place and bring your car to Masellos, unless you like burning your money on borderline criminal service. Update: it has now been over 2 years since writing this review. My brakes are still going strong. Don't be suckered into replacing working parts on your car by these guys! I will never go to A Monroe muffler again. read more

I took my 2009 Volvo XC90 to get looked at. They told me it needed a new Spindle in the rear section of the car. I ended up spending $2400 with them, with $1400 out of pocket and $1000 covered under my extended warranty program. I also got an oil change while it was at it. About a week later, one of my wheels almost fell off ( the same rear end they had previously worked on ). I was lucky it did not happen on a highway! It was because they put on a bolt that was not secured proper. Monro refused to acknowledge their fault in this. They also messed up the alignment after their initial work on it and would not get it aligned unless I pay for it extra! That affected my sway bar and now I ended up spending more to get that fixed!!! About the oil change I got - just about 1000 miles after getting it, the low oil came on. Way too early for low oil!! I am not sure they put the 8 quarts it takes, even though I was charged for it! NEVER! ever! will I have them touch my car again! NEVER! read more

This place is the worst! I came in to get a basic oil change and inspection done, walked to Dosa Grill (across the street) for lunch, and came back to get my car. Less than a month and no more than 500 miles later, and my car is shuddering when I start it and smelling like it's burning up - and it's a new car! Pretty sure they didn't do anything to it. Plus, my windshield fluid is bone dry! Seems like they just left the car in the lot and didn't bother doing anything to it. And, to top it off, they gave me a reminder sticker with a completely bogus date (just a month after). No wonder though, seeing as they didn't do anything the first time. Do yourself a favor and avoid coming here, they rip you off! read more

I stopped in to Monro recently to get an estimate for some muffler work. When I came in I made it clear that I was only looking for a repair estimate. Like any smart consumer, and broke grad student, I wanted to shop around for the best price for the work. The mechanic checked things over and told me what work needed to be done, but when I asked for a written quote from the manager he refused to tell me how much the work would cost. He refused to even give me a verbal "ballpark" estimate for the work. He implied that he would only tell me the price if I agreed to have the work completed there that afternoon. Needless to say I left. They are clearly more concerned with their bottom line than they are with being open and honest with their (potential) customers. read more

This has been the worst automotive repair experience I have ever had to endure. The mechanics are either the worst I've ever seen or running the biggest scam job I've ever been on the losing end of. I went in for an inspection and brake job on my four year old domestic vehicle. Five visits and $1,800 later, the car is still not fixed. A secondary air injector code has completely stumped the whole crew. Every time someone dips his head under the open hood it costs me $100's. The last thing to go was the secondary air injector relay (a part they claimed they looked at and deemed not to be the problem, which would have been the cheapest solution) which killed my battery leaving me stranded at 10:00 at night, 80 miles from home. Pick any place but this for your auto care needs. Completely inept in every way but sales. read more

Similar experience as all previous reviews. I needed a part checked and could not get a verbal time frame or cost estimate from the front desk people. After waiting for about half an hour with no one working on my car, a mechanic walked over with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth and got into my car... Absolutely disgusting. The entire staff was rude and just wanted to up charge instead of dealing with the actual problem. Never ever come here. Rip off. UPDATE: I tried to contact the woman below who commented and never received a response. Shocking. Also the district manager of this location said he'd mail me a gift card. Never got it . This place has gone through there fair share of bad managers but I can tell you now that they are under new management and when it comes to offering other services when you come in for say a basic oil change, that's our job is to inform you of what's wrong with your car. We do a courtesy once over to insure your safety and well being. If your brakes and/or rotors are bad or on the fringe we let you know about that. It is then up to the customer to let us know if they would like the work done or not. We only do what the customer wants! If you've had a bad experience in the past, stop on in now and ask for Jeff or Ben. We will take care of you! read more

I've been going to these guys for a couple years now. My last inspection with them was a nightmare. My check engine light refused to turn off, so they did the safety portion (so I was told) and I was to come back for work on the emissions valve which was triggering my check engine light. Within a day of their 'safety inspection' my main brake line snapped as I was driving home from work. Brake lines are a part of NY safety inspection but somehow they overlooked the fact that it was a time bomb waiting to go off? I doubt they even looked at it. I'm lucky I did not get into an accident due to its failure. So after the car was towed back to their shop, they then told me that the line needed to be replaced and that I also had tie rod that needed work. Again, why was nothing said the day before? The new muffler they put on a year ago has already rusted through and is making noise again. Considering how much I was charged for it I would have hoped that it would have lasted more than 12 months... But the straw that broke the camel's back was my most recent experience with them. I called twice asking for an appointment for an inspection and got the "we take inspections all day" brush off. They didn't even ask for my name, much less the vehicle year/make/model. Low and behold, I drive in bright and early the next morning through 45 minutes of school morning traffic and within five minutes am told that they don't have the sticker they need in order to do my inspection. Needless to say I took my car somewhere else to be inspected and am now in the market for a different mechanic. read more

Took my daughter's 2006 Honda CRV in to have the exhaust inspected and get an estimate. It was rattling and losing fuel economy. No check engine light. After bringing it in and having it up on the lift I was told it clearly had a large hole in the catalytic converter, which is "the most expensive part on the car." Around $1500 to replace. They also found a crack in the manifold, the "2nd most expensive part on the car." Their words. So before dropping $2K on a $3K vehicle, we took it across the street to Cole Muffler to get a 2nd opinion. The assistant manager was hesitant on giving a quote for a new catalytic converter when we didn't have a check engine light. He had his mechanic bring it in. They came back 5 minutes later and told me to come with them to the garage. They handed me a flashlight and started showing me the 2 parts in question. For which we all re-examined to see zero holes or cracks. And we looked hard. Then they showed me the missing spring and corroded bolt on one of the pipe connections that they showed me rattled when movement was applied. Bingo. The sound we were hearing. They also recommended replacing another gasket further down the exhaust that looked pretty bad. All in all, $188 with labor and parts to fix the problem. Monroe Muffler either hires completely incompetent staff, or they hire crooks, but that's not really fair to crooks. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, and am surprised they are still in business. read more

had an appointment at 8am at cole muffler for an inspection i made 3 days in advance, and purposely scheduled it to be the first one in, so i wouldn't have to wait. when i arrived they said they had one inspection ahead of me and told me to either wait or come back in an hour. i left and went to monro instead which was 2 "blocks" away. it was a little tricky to get to in that direction (had to make a turn-around, because the u-turns were posted as illegal) but monro took me right in and the inspection only took 10 minutes! quick and accommodating! read more

My daughter took here 2005 Honda Civic into Monroe for a hanging rattling muffler! They sold her a new muffler system with pipes for $337 !!!!. Total ripoff . A new top of the line stainless steel muffler with stainless steel pipes would have cost $132 with professional installation . Very dissatisfied . Beware they will take advantage of the weak !!!! read more
