So disappointed with how far this place has gone downhill. I have been coming here for all oil changes and tires since i moved to NY from Hawaii (military). My check engine light came on and my first appointment for inspection they canceled because they did not have time to look at it (despite me letting them know that they had already diagnosed the issue and that the check engine light was on when scheduling the appointment.) The issue was a mass air flow which required a whole carbon clean out. Because I am a solo parent, my only option was to take the car to the dealership for it to be done as they provide a loaner car while the car is being serviced. After $4000 and getting my car back from CT dealership I brought it here for a NY state inspection.... and he failed it. I asked to speak to the owner. He spoke to me on the phone, told me that he would have the mechanic show me he would show me the tire tread. He did and i WATCHED it go to 2/32 which is passing in NY state. I dont see how this is fair to treat customers like this. Not only that but I also was told that the car would be done by 10:30 am when he scheduled my appointment for 9 am. I am still here at 1 pm, and now have to take my car to another place who follows the NY state law for inspection rather than trying to nickel and dime their customers. I had another issue here last time I got my oil changed where my oil light came on after I left. This will be the last time I have an issue here, which is a shame because I think Kerry is great. ​ read more

I bought a battery from Monro, supposedly with an 18 month warrantee. The battery failed a couple of times a week for a few months while the car was out of town. When my daughter returned the car, Monro gave me the run around for weeks and ultimately declined to offer any refund at all. They took no responsibility for selling a defective product. When I brought the car to the dealer, they said the battery was not powerful enough and replaced it with a stronger battery. The car has been perfect since. read more

Typical over sell trying to get me to change fluids and parts my normal mechanics had already taken care of. My oil change with synthetic oil was affordable and done in 25 minutes! They honor appointment times and also accept walk ins. They have done my tires and oil each time with exceptional quality. I just went to this business for a New York State inspection. I was expecting what I usually get at other places where there are always lots of "suggested" repairs or pitches to buy new tires. *BEWARE* Monroe Muffler Destroyed My Car!! I recently took my 2011 Camaro RS to Monroe Muffler in Hyde Park, New York for an oil change. Upon completing the change the tech replaced the O-ring incorrectly leading to over the next week, all of the oil draining from my car and my engine seizing while driving. I called Monroe who responded immediately, sent a gentleman named Steve to come assist and towed my car to their shop. I received a call that day saying they filed a claim and I would hear from them. I did not hear from them and my car sat in their lot for weeks before they called to have an adjustor review the car. The adjustor responded by stating he did see oil leaking from the left side and confirmed the engine was in fact dead. However he could not confirm the cause and it was up to me to have the car disassembled on my own dime to find the damage. At which time he would return, confirm the damage and move on from there. Considering the year (2011) and the book value ($12k-14k) of my car the labor to review my engine coupled with the cost ($7900 at least) to replace my engine was something that made every mechanic not even want to take the time to look at it. It took me a week before I was able to get help from Mike at Hyde Park Auto. (THANK YOU MIIKE) I had the car towed over and he confirmed the damage and only charged me $90 for his service. Monroe's insurance adjustor (Larry) confirmed the damage and stated they would take responsibility. I thought finally this was over, however this is simply where the nightmare began. Larry from travelers insurance refused to pay the cost of the repairs and simply totaled out my car. This created a dilemma because like most, I had to continue paying bills while missing work for two months putting me in some stiff debt and the value of my car doesn't cover the entirety of my loan. Forcing me to take a salvage payout. This payout was bare minimum and didn't come close to covering the cost of the engine repairs, coupled with two months of bills, lost wages, towing the car back and forth, etc.. But most importantly my car is my dream car. I worked really hard to get it and had no intentions on selling it to begin with. This is an Inferno Orange 2011 Gen 5 RS, with 3 tone interior. (Excuse me while I "Man-Cry") It is almost irreplaceable and is the car i eventually wanted to hand down to my son. Two full months later this simple oil change has literally wrecked my life. I simply cannot afford to sue Monroe. A factor i'm sure Monroe is banking on. I am having my first son On the 24th of April and with all the time in money I have thrown into these two major events I just don't have it. My car is still dead, while I continue to pay the car note and insurance. I've lost my job due to not having reliable transportation. Though they have agreed that at any point I am able to get my car fixed they would take me back, however Monroe still refuses to acknowledge any responsibility and will not consider even helping me cover some of the cost, or at the very least help me find an engine that I can actually afford. Thankfully though they did finally call me after two months to say they would grant me a $71 refund for my oil change. Do not bother with this location or deal with this company. I'm sure there are some good mechanics at some of the locations, however if a problem should occur the corporate office will not assist you. This is not a morally just company, they do not care about the customer or the community that supports them. Find a good local mechanic you can trust and leave these black gold hunters alone or you will end up like me. :( Is this how American businesses treat American's? In the home of Roosevelt and one of the pioneer towns of America, I would expect more from Monroe Muffler. I just want to drive my Camaro, go to work and support my family. Fraudulent practices! I have gotten my oil changed and various other "little" maintenance needed there w/out a problem, but DO NOT trust them with anything major. They changed a front wheel bearing, and in the process bent the hub assembly. Instead of fixing their mistake, they attempted to cover it up by adding "washers" to temporarily mask the shaking that this would cause while driving. This is a serious safety issue!!! I guess they literally don't care if they kill someone. I went here as I have done in the past. I had breaks placed on my vehicle front and back. I was charged $645. 6 months later my breaks started skeaking really bad when I backed up. I was told it was break dust and not to worry as they were new breaks. The next day I didnt hear the noise so I totally forgot about it. The sound came back a week later. I took my car to a mechanic and he told me I needed breaks all around. I was shocked and told him I just had breaks placed on my vehicle at Monro on Albany Post road. He told be they never replaced my breaks. The old breaks were still on my vehicle. He said it looked like they tried to resurface them and did a horrible job. I will file a complaint with the better business burea soon. Please dont trust this place you will get ripped off. This place should be shut down for ripping off hard working people. read more

I went into the shop in January when my car started squeaking every time I touched my brakes. I left my car for a couple hours to have them check what was wrong, and Cari (I think thats his name) called to tell me that my car was not in a drivable condition at all. Also my car had been overheating. I agreed it was probably not safe to drive it, but then he proceeded to rattle off all the new things they need to put into my car. All in all, they charged me a fair price on the parts but ripped me off on labor costs. I spend almost $2000 in total at Monro over two visits and I must say, they are not worth the money and the time. I was very disappointed and sad. I was a college student and the money left a huge hole in my pocket. I wish everyday I had thought better and driven my car to another couple of places to get a second look and price quote. Huge regret. Don't go here. For being 'break' specialists, they charge for it like it's a premium rare service they offer. read more

We were driving through town and our tire was leaking, so we stopped at Monro to see if they could help. He was so friendly and helpful, took a look and patched our tire in between other jobs because he didn't want us trying to drive home on it and having it blow out. He fixed it for us in under 30 minutes, at an affordable rate. We would absolutely recommend Monro if you are in the area! read more

The staff is nice enough and yeah sure they are friendly, but this place is outrageously expensive. Got my oil changed and compared to other people around the area, it was like 20-30$ more here. They also rotated my tires, which is really nice, but I didn't ask for it and had to over draw my account because I only had enough for an oil change. Rage. read more

Not a good business model. Uses cheap labor and cheap parts. I had a muffler replaced and it caused 10 years worth of problems on that car (turned out being O2 sensor problem.) On a separate occasion I had them replace the brakes on my car, and they squealed sometimes and overheated one time as well. Do yourself a favor, and go to Tom Dressel or Abel Automotive. NEVER will go here again. Went here for a conventional oil change- a joke of a task for a service shop like this one. Noticed my car wasn't idling correctly and when I brought it to the dealer, found out this place overfilled my oil by 2 quarts....my car required less than 4 quarts. That's not the best part.....to add to this bush league (at best) mistake, the manager who I spoke with, when I called them to notify that there was an issue on their end somewhere down the line, rudely told me 'you have no evidence' and 'you can't prove that'. I calmly and very nicely called to let them know that there was an issue on THEIR end that caused an added issue to me- not even remotely hinting for a refund and this is the response they gave me! Customer service, in addition to the amount of oil they are adding to cars, does not appear to be a high priority. Will gladly take my business to the countless other shops in the area- certainly do not need this one. read more
