Yes, I'm a genius. We're from Illinois and pulled in HP Auto at 4:30 needing help securing the bent awning so we could drive home. I was at his mercy. In about 45 minutes he got it all secured. This is the good part; he could have charged me $450-$500. That's about what I expected. but no, he thought about it and charged me $89. Mike, you saved the day for me! You're a Saint! Mike does great work. He is fair in his pricing and he doesn't upsell any customer. I've seen him talk customers out of expensive repairs they thought they needed, but he knew they didn't. Other auto mechanics would have simply taken their money. He is always helpful if I pop in with a quick question and always willing to help. Maddie at the counter is also great. She has to deal with a lot of stressed out people and she always keeps her head. I use Mike for all of my maintenance and repairs. I haven't bothered with the dealership on my 2015 since they tried to tell me y spark plugs needed changed with an oil change. I had just changed them a week before, and they even went so far as to show me an OEM nasty plug. They played it off that they just used it as an example. read more

Remember years ago when every friend had a "Great Mechanic" to send you to.. You dont hear that anymore... a lost art form. but guess what... I found one. I moved south from NY so I had to take an older car of mine off the road for a few months and store it in my cousins garage outside of Poughkeepsie NY a 2004 Huyandai Santa Fe. He started it a few times a week etc. I went to reclaim it about six months later to bring it down to NC on a 9 hour trip but I wanted it checked out first. I thought it needed a little work and some preventive maintenance and didn't want to have any problems on the road.. I first brought it to two local mechanics in that area and their estimates were crazy. one estimate included work I had recently done that they did not know about.. both estimates had different problems that HAD to be addressed immediately or else.. and both estimates were way over the top on $$$ that i would not consider dumping into this older vehicle... I was clearly being misled. It was shameful... I was pissed off and embarrassed for them. My cousin called a buddy who recommended HYDE PARK AUTO. a Complete 180* difference. They understood what I was trying to accomplish. Got my car ready for the road and addressed a few things that should be done now and highlighted things that were ok but might need attention in the not too distant future... reasonable.. no surprises.. no Gotchya ... no half truths... no BS. The mechanic explained everything to me so I knew exactly what he was going to do and agreed to it. The owner introduced herself and made certain that I was happy with the way I was being treated and the attention to my situation. The $$ was very reasonable and what I expected to pay... and every other person there at the time seemed happy with their experience. I cannot say enough about the experience and the service I had there that day. I made my 9 hour drive South, its six months later and I haven't had a single problem yet... I can't say enough about the way I was treated by this shop. I don't live in the area, and was up to attend a car show, meeting some old friends. Well I turned out to be the star of the show instead. My car would not turnover. Zero. Dead. Luckily I was at the hotel across the street from Hyde Park Auto Repair. I walked across the street and with some help, we pushed it over. It was already 4:30 and I saw the sign saying they closed at 5:00. So, I was reserved I the fact I was staying the night and was going to have to miss all my sales appointments for the next day. Instead, I was asked if they wouldn't mind me staying late so they could finish the job that night. Mind? I was thrilled! They gave me an estimate of 8:00 but it was done by 6:50 and I was on the road back home for my 2 1/2 hour ride. No problems since! I can't recommend them highly enough. They acted like staying late and the extra time they put in was just standard operating procedure for them. And the fact I was treated like a regular customer, not someone from out state goes a long way. Great work and great customer service. read more

First of all, make an appointment, which l greatly appreciate. lt was my first trip to this establishment, it's located right off of route 9. When l arrived, Mike was working on a beautiful Harley. l took a seat in the lobby, explained that l had an appointment and they got busy on my vehicle. Mike is very personable as well as knowledgeable and we hit it off. Before you knew it, my vehicle had been serviced (inspection, oil/filter change and tire rotation). I've temporarily relocated to Hyde Park from the city due to the pandemic and needed a place to get my car serviced. I had seen the sign for this place several times and decided to give them a try based on the good reviews I found. I was not disappointed. I dropped my car off and just said "if you find anything wrong...please just fix it" Those would be golden words to a not-so-ethical mechanic but not to these folks. When I picked up the car they informed me my brakes were fine (which I was concerned about) with about 50% life left on the pads. They didn't find anything else wrong. I walked out with a minimal charge for an oil change and tire rotation. This will be my go-to place as long as I'm in Hyde Park! Oh...a cute dog greets you at the door. The one word for this place is GREAT! Knowledgable, generous, and kind would also be apt. MY wife and I were in Hyde Park and about to drive back to NYC when an ominous noise began in what sounded like our right front wheel. Despite the fact that they had no time--they were backed up with jobs from last week because a mechanic was now out sick for a second week,--Mike didn't let us leave without taking a quick look. He'd heard us drive up and thought we might have a stone trapped in the brake mechanism. He listened again, got down on the ground, found the culprit--some caked mud and rust scraping the rotor--and removed it. Voila. Test drive. No noise. And after all that, when I tried to pay them something, they wouldn't take any money! I didn't know there were any businesses like this still around! read more

Sorry, but I did not have a good experience when I took my car there. I needed my headlight fixed on my Chevy Malibu. I walked into the office and tried to conduct business, however the barking dog that was chained behind the desk made it difficult. The mechanic said they would take me in right away which was nice. I advised I lived nearby and would leave the car, and then just got out of there because the dog was in a bad mood that day. I came back, and once again was greeted by the barking dog. It scared another customer that came in behind me. The person at the counter told us not to go near the counter. The dog was chained up but could still hop up close to the counter. The bill for changing the headlight was $115! Now I know you have to take the front end off, but a friend of mine took his Chevy SUV to a local shop and they charged $20. The attendant let me go for $100, it was all I had. However, I'm disappointed in the charge. Hourly rates may be what they are, but in the end I felt I was overcharged. In addition, I know the "pooch" is part of the family, but it was just inappropriate to have him in that setting. read more

A week ago I was visiting friends. I hit a pothole and damaged my the front end on my Ram 1500. Not familiar with the area and by myself I called a tow truck. The driver told me about a place near by, Hyde Park Auto. I was a little worried about a place like that. Used to taken it to the dealer. When we arrived they we're kind of busy but said they would get me in as soon as possible. Had my friend Jeff pick me up. As soon as we got back to his place they called with an estimate and said I could pick it up at closing. To make a long story short. Instead of having to replace my whole exhaust system costing me well over $1000, the mechanic there gave me options since my parts were not all in need of replacement (boy it adds up quickly!). He showed me the underside of the vehicle and suggested doing some pipe replacement and welding which saved me $700. The car sounds better than it ever did. Nice and quiet.
