Horrible scam. Went here because it was convenient and close to home to have my oil pan looked at. Mechanic told me that the whole pan needed to be replaced due to leaking around the valve. Was quoted for $236 for parts, when a steel oil pan online costs $60. Went home to look at it before making any decisions. Removed the sealant around the valve, tightened the valve properly and the issue was fixed. Additionally, due to this negligence on the part of the mechanic, oil had sprayed everywhere in the undercarriage and was not cleaned or taken care of. Due to excess dripping oil, car began smoking from exhaust. A new oil pan was not needed, plus they simply could not bother to tighten the valve after noticing it was not on correctly. Was quoted for additional repairs and after consulting an independent mechanic, realized that Monroe's quotes for these items were far too expensive, let alone that I no longer trusted them to do any kind of repair with integrity. It was snowing yesterday and I have to replace 2 tires on my suv. They tried to charge me $280 to replace 2 tires for mount and balance. He eventually dropped the price to $218 to replace 2 tires. It was snowing and cold out and 2 rear tires were bald. I had no choice but to have them replace it. No tire should cost $110 for mount and balance. $110 for each tire! I know I got taken advantage of. What a bad day. I will never go to this place ever again read more

I come to this shop for their quick and professional services. I've been going here for over 4 years, I can tell from my first experience to my most recent that the customer service and job performance has greatly improved through time. Maybe they changed owners, managers, and/or workers but whatever changes they made really urged me to write a review because way before I doubted if they serviced professionally due to all the bad previous reviews. I always checked after their services on my car to make sure everything was good and never had a issue. Yesterday I went for a walk in oil change and the worker at the desk kindly informed me that they are busy at the moment and to please come back in a hour. I came back, got the oil changed and after the oil change they personally physically showed me that I needed new tires (which I knew). The worker at the desk was super friendly and helpful. They gave me a special promotion going on of buy 3 tires get 1 extra for free and installed them right after my oil change. They had 3 workers working on installing the new tires and everything took roughly around 1 hour to finish. Maybe it was because it was near closing time for them that they teamed up to get the job done quickly and efficiently. While I waited in their lobby I noticed the worker at the desk genuinely cared for the customers especially loyal customers because he treated new customers great by making things easy and understandable along with loyal customers where he answered questions effectively and gave helpful information. I left the shop with around $530 less in my pockets BUT it was worth every penny because I was happy with their service and my car came out better than before thanks to their help! Person at desk thought that I didn't know what oil change was. The board outside said the deal on oil change was $17.99 and he proceeded to charge me $75 dollars. He never budged. I asked him about the deal on board and he said that it's not applicable to me. I had recently changed my brake pads, he told me that my brake situation is bad and I should get brake pads changed ASAP. He insisted that if I didn't it could fail at any time. I went to other auto shop nearby and they said that they perceive that it could go for another 20,000 miles on both front and back. I would not recommend going to this place. read more

DO NOT GO TO MONRO ON 77 Chelmsford st in Lowell. Went there and was told $1,005 and when I went to pick it up and now it's $2,100 and if I want my car back I have to pay or bring them to court. The manager was forthcoming that this has happened twice before. All lines are recorded they told me but when I called the corporate office, they said they only listen to recordings if it's in there favor. We were on our way up to Maine when we heard a metal on metal sound from our rear brakes. I called this shop, and they said they could take a look at our brakes immediatel. The rear brakes needed new pads and rotors. They fixed them in an hour and hot us back on the road, saving our weekend trip. Bate and switch. Fraud artist. Ordered tires from Tire rack and had them shipped there. They mounted and balanced them and charged me $80. The Tire Rack price quote was $66. I argued with them. I told them to let tire rack know their price was incorrect.They kept insisting Tire Rack sets that price not them. Claimed I was getting a discount as it was. Should have checked the reviews before I agreed to deal with them. Seems like they do this sort of thing to most of their customers. read more

Be careful with this place. This Spanish people will rip you off. I bought my own parts to change 2 front breaks, they charge me $250 for labor. I came to this place before, too last year, but they only charge me $80 for the front breaks, and $70 for back breaks. I went for the oil change that included a tire rotation. Paid 93 dollars and left. I did not asked anything... I paid and left. The store manager was alone working on 2 cars mine and someone else and the female desk clerk. Driving home the windshield washer fluid light was on. Got home and read the paperwork that had all listed needed items checked out and all fluids topped off and that tires were rotated. That is impossible. They would need to ask me to give him the key to unlock the wheels. Brought it back and all I got was an excuse that car was fine and did not needed anything and tires where a little worn on the front. I went home and had a gallon on washer fluid and when I filled it the car took the whole galloon. Bad service is an understatement aside the place is dirty. It is irresponsible not topping off all fluids specially when I have to go back for another oil change in 5-7K miles. Never again. read more

This was my second visit to store, beside being so dirty, the technicians are rude and don't really care about the quality of work to your car, I brought my Lexus in for a muffler job, they fixed the muffler buy burned my O2 Sensor and the latch to my hood. They are giving me a run around, I will not go there again. Our Toyota was slightly overdue for an oil change, so we called there this morning (4/21/12) to see if we could get an appointment, and got one for 11am. We wound up getting there at 10:30am, and were told that they were actually running a little behind, so they likely wouldn't get our car in until 11:15am. Hey, at least they were honest - and accurate - the car rolled into the service bay at around 11:18am. In the meantime, we hung out in the customer area. Not anywhere as slick as any of the Toyota dealer waiting areas, but then again, we weren't looking to pay $50 for an oil change. From the moment we got there until the moment we left, we were treated well, and heard various interactions between customers and the guy at the counter. No complaints or rudeness, and everything we witnessed was professional. It is worth pointing out that they were VERY busy, with lots of people walking in and being told that they were already booked up for the day. The car was done by noon, and the guy at the counter pleasantly pointed out that we should consider getting the break pads done sometime soon, as they are thinning out (though still safe and legal), and it would avoid getting the rotars damaged. No pressure tactics or hard sell. All in all, it was a good experience, and we plan on going back. read more

Took my inferno orange Camaro (has tracking device) in at July 4th 10 AM for brake flush. Called 2:30 PM still not ready. Wanted to cancel but they claim it was already on the lift. Drove by on my way to work and it wasn't even on the lift. July 5th, tracking device shows that it was used 8 times throughout the day for about 1/2 hour putting about 7 miles on my odometer. The employees took my car for a joy ride!! Fast acceleration and 2 hard brakes. NOT HAPPY !!!! Talked to the manager and he offered free oil change, NO WAY I am going to trust them with my car anymore. read more

I came very early on a Saturday morning, thinking it would be the perfect time to do so. He said I would have to make an appointment and told him that I thought walk ins were welcome. He did say that they are welcome, but again, he was alone and understaffed. Seriously, understaffed for 2 years? I brought my business elsewhere and they even accepted your coupon that I was using. Sorry it had to come to this, I've been coming to you guys for years and I'm afraid you lost your loyal customer. I was back to monro tire again. a week later do get my breaks rotars and tyrod done.. they were super busy and their is a reason for it. Gary and his staff rock.. I recomend making an appointment because it is centraly located and like i said, VERY VERY busy.. the work they did was prestine and wonderderful. Eric is one of the mechanics there and he busts his hump day in and day out just like Gary which is the manager there. and all is staff are very professional. And not only is Gary the manager, but he also jumps in and works on cars also, not only is he great. AND invaluble asset to this business, but also fair and upfront. there is no secrets with Gary. And also let me point out he is there 24-7! GARY IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS STORE! and he is a truly dedicated worker that not only knows customers and thir needs and wants, but also a great mechanic. That is very rare in these businesses. No offence on the other staff because they also make this place go, but Gary also steps out personally to get parts, so when he steps out for a breif moment this place falls apart. Had a 9am appt. for my brakes, they call me at 11 to tell me my front brakes would cost $400. this is $100 more than my normal guy but he was booked up for the next two weeks. I knew they were ripping me off but I needed to get them replaced. Now it's two weeks later and they squeak more now than they did before, and they don't stop the car any better than before. Had tires installed on my truck here. Took about 3 hours. Also had a front end alignment. Tires were not balanced correctly causing my truck to shake on the highway, also noticed a clicking sound coming from the front end. Brought truck to dealer about a month later because I have an extended warranty and they said the clicking was from a tierod nut that wasn't tightened after the alignment. Will not return. read more

had quite a bad experience at this monro. i spent 2 hours waiting for an alignment to finish before they told me i needed repairs in order for the alignment to work. i had the repairs done, then came back for the alignment and this time they gave me the car, told me the alignment was complete and sent me on my way. i drove off and the car was pulling terribly to the left - worse off than before. i would have given them the benefit of the doubt except i took the car to get aligned at a different shop 3 days later and they had NO PROBLEMS. now i'm wondering, did monro suggest i should spend hundreds on repairs when they weren't necessary? when they test drove my car and knew it was pulling did they give me the keys anyways, thinking "screw it"? i've spent over 2 weeks trying to get my car aligned and i could have just brought it to a different shop saved a few hundred bucks and been done with it in thirty minutes. read more

I went to Monro over the weekend as the shop I usually go to was closed until Monday. I thought that this place could help me since I only needed a gasket repaired. So I get a call a little while later and they tell me that there is an oil leak and a coolant leak and that it will cost a little over 700 dollars to repair. I was suspicious of this and picked up the car and left it for my regular mechanic to look at on Monday. When Monday rolls around my mechanic calls and says it was just a gasket that needed to be fixed and that it will only cost a little over 100 dollars. I got the car fixed by him and it has been running well every since. Monro completely tried to scam me and I am sure they have done this to other people as well. If I got my car fixed at Monro it would have cost me around 600 dollars more. WATCH OUT FOR THIS PLACE THEY TRY TO RIP PEOPLE OFF and get them to pay for repairs they do not need. so i literally let morn muffler in tears because i went there for an oil change 4 tire change and a battery change because supposedly i needed all three to have a safe car. being a girl and not knowing a thing about cars i took gary's advice and did that. however i realized my power button wasn't working anymore. i called them and they didn't want to even assess the issue. i finally got frustrated and drove up there only to be told to book and appointment and get chart for an issue they created in the first place.. gary looked me in the face and told me i need to buy a factory replacement. that will cost me almost 400$, mind you i had just paid $900 to get these things prior. i left there crying because i didn't buy the whole concept that it was a coincidence for a second. i got home and googled how to fix this the window button after battery change. turns pout i had to just hold it for 3 seconds to get this function reinstalled. i guess i saved 400 bucks just reading google. what huts me is just the decency to check what the issue was they didn't do that and i was about to waste another 400 dollars thinking i had another issue. advice is get a second opinion they are all about the money and will come up with 1000 things wrong with your car but can't fix the ones they created for your car. they are just doing some shitty things up there its just about time they get uncovered. be mindful of mechanics who are all about that money. read more
